Abstract:The space of 6D supergravities with minimal supersymmetry is greatly constrained by anomaly cancellation. Nevertheless, a large number of models satisfy all low-energy consistency conditions and in this work we make progress towards exhaustively enumerating all anomaly-free models with at most one tensor multiplet. Generalizing previous techniques, we describe a general algorithm using multi-hypergraphs and simplicial complexes to systematically enumerate anomaly-free models with gauge groups of any number of simple factors and with hypermultiplets falling into any representations. Using these new ideas, we obtain a \emph{complete} list of anomaly-free models for $T\leq 1$, the only simplifying assumption being that the gauge group contains no $\operatorname{U}(1)$, $\operatorname{SU}(2)$, $\operatorname{SU}(3)$ or $\operatorname{Sp}(2)$ factors. We also study how many/which models in this ensemble satisfy several UV and swampland bounds which have been proposed and previously utilized to great effect, finding that none are ruled out for $T=0$ and $\approx\!50\%$ are inconsistent with quantum gravity for $T=1$.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to systematically enumerate all anomaly - free models in six - dimensional supergravity theory when the number of tensor multiplets \(T\leq1\). Specifically, the authors focus on how to construct these models by means of multi - hypergraphs and simplicial complexes under given conditions, and explore whether these models meet certain boundary conditions of quantum gravity. ### Background of the Paper and Problem Definition In the past few years, there has been a renewed interest in using anomalies to understand the landscape of string theory (and more broadly, quantum gravity). Anomalies, as general consistency requirements, have proven to be very useful in constraining the theory landscape, especially in dimensions \(D\geq7\) in combination with supersymmetry. For example, it has been proven that for \(D = 9\), the rank of the gauge group can only be 1, 9 or 17; for \(D = 8\), the rank of the gauge group can only be 2, 10 or 18, and these values exactly match those that appear in string theory. However, when supersymmetry is reduced, the ability of anomaly cancellation is somewhat weakened. The dimension with the maximum allowed 8 supercharges is \(D = 6\), and in this dimension, there are infinite families of models, and the rank of these models has no upper limit. Therefore, there is a significant difference between the 6D supergravity landscape and the quantum gravity landscape, and the latter is usually considered to be finite. However, by introducing additional ultraviolet conditions, many of these infinite families have been proven to be inconsistent with quantum gravity. Even after excluding these infinite families, the landscape of 6D \(\mathcal{N}=1\) supergravity models is still quite large. Several studies have already listed anomaly - free models in various settings, where the number of non - Abelian gauge groups, hypermultiplet representations or tensor multiplets is restricted. ### Research Objectives The goal of this paper is to systematically enumerate all anomaly - free 6D \(\mathcal{N}=1\) supergravity models by means of multi - hypergraphs and simplicial complexes, especially when the number of tensor multiplets \(T\leq1\). To simplify the problem, it is assumed that the gauge group does not contain \(U(1)\), \(SU(2)\), \(SU(3)\) or \(Sp(2)\) factors. ### Methods and Techniques 1. **Multi - hypergraphs and Simplicial Complexes**: - The authors use multi - hypergraphs and simplicial complexes to describe and construct anomaly - free models. Each vertex corresponds to a simple gauge factor and the corresponding charged hypermultiplets, and these hypermultiplets satisfy the anomaly cancellation conditions. - Each edge (or higher - order hyperedge) represents the charged hypermultiplets between multiple gauge factors, and these hypermultiplets can be combined into an effective model. 2. **Classification and Algorithms**: - Through the "branch - and - prune" algorithm, all anomaly - free models are systematically generated. This algorithm takes advantage of the structures of multi - hypergraphs and simplicial complexes and is especially optimized for the case of \(T\leq1\). - The authors also discuss how to limit the structure of the model by the properties of the inner product matrix, thereby reducing the computational complexity. ### Results and Discussions 1. **Results**: - The authors successfully list all anomaly - free 6D \(\mathcal{N}=1\) supergravity models that satisfy all low - energy consistency conditions. - They further explore how many of these models meet certain boundary conditions of quantum gravity, and find that for models with \(T = 0\), none are excluded; while for models with \(T = 1\), about 50% do not meet the requirements of quantum gravity. 2. **Discussions**: - The authors emphasize that their analysis covers an arbitrary number of gauge factors and hypermultiplets, and these hypermultiplets can be in any representation. - Finally, they discuss future research directions, including how to further extend the method to consider more gauge factors and representations. ### Summary This paper systematically solves the problem of how to enumerate all anomaly - free models in 6D \(\mathcal{N}=1\) supergravity theory when the number of tensor multiplets \(T\leq1\) through the methods of multi - hypergraphs and simplicial complexes. This method not only provides a systematic construction method, but also paves the way for further research.
