Abstract:In this paper we produce unconditionally new instances of Galois number field extensions exhibiting strong discrepancies in the distribution of Frobenius elements among conjugacy classes of the Galois group. We first prove an inverse Galois theoretic statement showing a dichotomy between ``extreme Chebyshev biases'' and ``equal prime ideal counting''. We further introduce a group theoretic property that implies extreme biases. In the case of abelian extensions this leads to a complete characterization of Galois groups enabling extreme biases. In the case where the Galois group is a $p$-group, a simple criterion is deduced for the existence of extreme biases, and associated effective statements of Linnik type are obtained.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### What problems does this paper attempt to solve?
The main objective of this paper is to explore the influence of the structure of Galois groups on the Chebyshev bias in number fields. Specifically, the author attempts to answer the following two key questions:
1. **Can extreme Chebyshev bias be generated under the condition of having the same number of square roots and being contained in the same conjugate class?**
2. **Can the group structures that can produce extreme Chebyshev bias be classified?**
To answer these questions, the author studies the distribution differences of Frobenius elements in the Galois extension \(L/K\) among the conjugate classes of the Galois group \(G = \text{Gal}(L/K)\) under certain specific conditions. In particular, the author proves a statement regarding inverse Galois theory, shows the dichotomy between "extreme Chebyshev bias" and "equivalent prime ideal counting", and introduces a group - theoretic property to derive the existence conditions of extreme bias.
#### Main contributions
1. **Reveals the phenomenon of extreme Chebyshev bias among the conjugate classes of the Galois group \(G\) under Cayley embedding.**
- Through Theorem 1.2, the author proves that for any finite group \(G\) and number field \(k\), if the embedding of \(G\) in \(S(G)\) satisfies certain conditions, then in the corresponding Galois extension \(L/K\), there exists extreme Chebyshev bias.
2. **Provides specific sufficient conditions for the existence of extreme Chebyshev bias for abelian groups and \(p\)-groups.**
- For abelian groups, the author gives a complete classification of which abelian groups will produce extreme Chebyshev bias under Cayley embedding (Theorem 1.5 and Corollary 1.6).
- For \(p\)-groups, the author provides a simple criterion for judging whether there is extreme Chebyshev bias (Theorem 1.9 and its corollary).
3. **Proposes a new construction method for generating specific examples of extreme Chebyshev bias.**
- For example, through Proposition 1.7, the author constructs a new class of Galois extensions \(L/k\) where \(G^+ \simeq (Z/pmZ\times Z/pmZ\times H)\rtimes Z/2Z\) and proves that these extensions do indeed have extreme Chebyshev bias.
4. **Solves the problem of the existence of extreme Chebyshev bias in the case of low indices.**
- Through Theorem 1.8, the author constructs a family of specific number fields \(L/K/k\) such that \(G^+ := \text{Gal}(L/k)\) and \(G := \text{Gal}(L/K)\) have specific structures and proves that there is extreme Chebyshev bias in these extensions.
In general, this paper provides new insights into understanding the asymmetry of prime ideal distribution in number fields by in - depth study of the structure of Galois groups and their influence on Chebyshev bias, and lays a theoretical foundation for future research.
