Abstract:We discuss the possibility of enhancing intelligent life searches toward the Galactic center. From the clockwork orbital motions of stars around the Sgr A${}^*$ black hole, we can determine the distance to the Galactic center at an exceptional accuracy, despite its remoteness $\sim 8.3$kpc. In addition, we can define precise reference epochs by selecting a prominent object such as the bright B-type star S2. These properties have a particular affinity for the coordinated signaling scheme which was hypothesized by Seto (2019) for systematically connecting intentional senders to searchers without a prior communication. If S2 is actually being used as a common reference clock, we can compress the search directions around the Galactic center by more than two orders of magnitude, with the scanning interval of $\sim16$yr.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The problems the paper attempts to solve This paper aims to explore how to enhance the search for technosignatures in the direction of the Galactic center. Specifically, the author proposes a method to improve the search efficiency by using the regular orbital motion of stars near the Galactic center. #### Main problems and background 1. **Challenges in the search for technosignatures**: - Although humans have intermittently searched for extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI) signals over the past 60 years, no definite detection results have been achieved yet. - Since the number of potential intentional senders in the Milky Way is unclear, the existing observational and computational resources may not be sufficient to cover all possible parameter combinations that may contain ETI signals. 2. **The need for coordinated signal schemes**: - There may be tacit adjustments between senders and receivers to compress the parameter space and save various investments (such as antennas, electricity, etc.). - The concept of Schelling points in game theory can be used to explain this tacit adjustment, which is achieved by choosing unique, prominent, and symmetrical reference points for synchronization. 3. **The uniqueness of the Galactic center**: - The Galactic center is a remarkable location with an extremely high stellar surface density. - By observing the approximately regular orbital motion of stars around the supermassive black hole Sgr A* at the Galactic center, the distance to the Galactic center (about 8.3 kpc) can be determined with high precision. - These characteristics make the Galactic center an ideal area for applying coordinated signal schemes. #### Proposed solutions 1. **Using the S2 star as a reference clock**: - S2 is a bright B - type star, and its perihelion passage time can be used as an accurate reference moment. - By choosing the perihelion passage time of S2 as a common reference clock, the search range in the direction of the Galactic center can be greatly compressed, with a scanning interval of about 16 years. 2. **Specific implementation methods**: - Using the orbital period of the S2 star and its perihelion passage time, combined with the known distance to the Galactic center, the sending and receiving directions can be determined. - This method does not require prior communication, simplifies the interstellar signal strategy, and may become an effective search strategy. 3. **Expected effects**: - Using the current measurement accuracy (distance error of about 0.005), the search direction can be compressed more than 100 times, making the search more focused and efficient. ### Summary This paper proposes a new method for searching for technosignatures by using the regular orbital motion of stars near the Galactic center, especially the perihelion passage time of the S2 star. This method not only improves the search efficiency but also provides new ideas and tools for future detection of extraterrestrial intelligence signals.
