Abstract:Spin-wave (SW) propagation close to the hybridization-induced transmission stop band is investigated within a trapezoid-shaped 200\,nm thick yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film using time-resolved magneto-optic Kerr effect (TR-MOKE) microscopy and broadband spin wave spectroscopy, supported by micromagnetic simulations. The gradual reduction of the effective field within the structure leads to local variations of the SW dispersion relation and results in a SW hybridization at a fixed position in the trapezoid where the propagation vanishes since the SW group velocity approaches zero. By tuning external field or frequency, spatial control of the spatial stop band position and spin-wave propagation is demonstrated and utilized to gain transmission control over several microstrip lines.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to solve how to actively control the spin - wave propagation distance in a 200 - nanometer - thick yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film by combining the hybridization - induced spin - wave transmission stop band and the change of the effective magnetic field caused by the geometry. Specifically, the authors studied the influence of the trapezoidal structure on the effective magnetic field through experiments and micromagnetic simulations, and showed how the spin - wave transmission stop band locally causes the stop of spin - wave propagation at specific positions, thus achieving the spatial control of spin - wave propagation. In addition, by adjusting the external static magnetic field close to the stop - band condition, the spin - wave transmission between multiple microstrip lines can be further controlled, which provides a new method for spin - wave - based computing and data processing applications.
