Abstract:We present stability estimates for the inverse source problem of the stochastic Helmholtz equation in two and three dimensions by either near-field or far-field data. The random source is assumed to be a microlocally isotropic generalized Gaussian random function. For the direct problem, by exploring the regularity of the Green function, we demonstrate that the direct problem admits a unique bounded solution with an explicit integral representation, which enhances the existing regularity result. For the case using near-field data, the analysis of the inverse problem employs microlocal analysis to achieve an estimate for the Fourier transform of the micro-correlation strength by the near-field correlation data and a high-frequency tail. The stability follows by showing the analyticity of the data and applying a novel analytic continuation principle. The stability estimate by far-field data is derived by investigating the correlation of the far-field data. The stability estimate consists of the Lipschitz type data discrepancy and the logarithmic stability. The latter decreases as the upper bound of the frequency increases, which exhibits the phenomenon of increasing stability.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to solve the stability estimation of the inverse problem of multi - frequency random sources. Specifically, the main objective of the research is to recover the random source through near - field or far - field data and verify the phenomenon that the stability of the inverse problem will be enhanced as the frequency increases. The following are the key points of the paper: 1. **Problem Background**: - The traditional single - frequency inverse source problem leads to non - uniqueness due to the existence of non - radiating sources, which brings challenges to the solution of the problem. - Using multi - frequency data can effectively overcome this problem and improve the uniqueness and stability of the solution. 2. **Research Object**: - The random source in the paper is assumed to be a microlocally isotropic generalized Gaussian random function, whose covariance operator is a classical pseudo - differential operator with the principal symbol \(h(x)|\xi|^{-m}\), where \(h(x)\) is called the micro - correlation intensity. 3. **Main Contributions**: - **Direct Problem**: By studying the regularity of the Green function, it is proved that the direct problem has a unique bounded solution in the sense of distribution, and an explicit integral representation form is given. - **Inverse Problem**: Using microlocal analysis and a new analytic continuation principle, the stability estimation under near - field data is obtained. This estimation includes Lipschitz - type data differences and logarithmic stability, where the logarithmic stability decreases as the frequency increases, reflecting the enhancement of stability. - **Far - Field Data**: By studying the correlation of far - field data, the corresponding stability estimation is also obtained. 4. **Mathematical Model**: - Consider the random Helmholtz equations in two - dimensional and three - dimensional spaces: \[ \Delta u + k^{2}u = f,\quad \text{in }\mathbb{R}^{d},\quad d = 2,3, \] where \(k>0\) is the wave number and \(f\) is a microlocally isotropic generalized Gaussian random function. - The wave field \(u\) satisfies the Sommerfeld radiation condition: \[ \lim_{r\rightarrow\infty}r^{\frac{d - 1}{2}}\left(\frac{\partial u}{\partial r}-iku\right)=0,\quad r = |x|. \] 5. **Conclusion**: - Through multi - frequency data, the stability of the inverse random source problem can be effectively improved, that is, as the frequency increases, the inverse problem becomes more stable. - The stability estimation consists of Lipschitz - type data differences and logarithmic stability, and the latter decreases as the frequency increases, showing the phenomenon of enhanced stability. In summary, through strict mathematical derivation and analysis, this paper verifies the effectiveness of multi - frequency data in the inverse problem of random sources and provides theoretical stability guarantees.
