We develop a new generalization of this identity, which yields a previous generalization of Franklin as a special case, and prove an accompanying Beck-type companion identity.

Abstract:Recently, Andrews gave a detailed study of partitions with even parts below odd parts in which only the largest even part appears an odd number of times. In this paper, we provide a combinatorial proof of the generating function identity of such partitions. We also have a further investigation on the largest even part. Finally, we give an interesting weighted overpartition generalization.

Abstract:We construct a family of partition identities which contain the following identities: Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon identities, Bressoud's even moduli generalization of them, and their counterparts for overpartitions due to Lovejoy et al. and Chen et al. We obtain unusual companion identities to known theorems as well as to the new ones in the process. The proof is, against tradition, constructive and open to automation.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a conjecture, which generalises Euler's partition theorem involving odd parts and different parts for all moduli. We prove this conjecture for two family partitions. We give $q$-difference equations for the related generating function if the moduli is three. We provide new companions to Rogers-Ramanujan-Andrews-Gordon identities under this conjecture.

Abstract:We provide combinatorial tools inspired by work of Warnaar to give combinatorial interpretations of the sum sides of the Andrews-Gordon and Bressoud identities. More precisely, we give an explicit weight- and length-preserving bijection between sets related to integer partitions, which provides these interpretations. In passing, we discover the $q$-series version of an identity of Kurşungöz, similar to the Bressoud identity but with opposite parity conditions, which we prove combinatorially using the classical Bressoud identity and our bijection. We also use this bijection to prove combinatorially many identities, some known and other new, of the Andrews-Gordon and Bressoud type.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the Lambert series generating function for Euler's totient function to introduce a new identity for the number of $1$'s in the partitions of $n$. A new expansion for Euler's partition function $p(n)$ is derived in this context. These surprising new results connect the famous classical totient function from multiplicative number theory to the additive theory of partitions.

Abstract:A result of Legendre asserts that the difference between the numbers of (length) even and odd partitions of $n$ into distinct parts is $0$, $1$, or $-1$; this also follows from Euler's pentagonal number theorem. We establish an analogous result for compositions and obtain some generalizations that are related to various entries in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.

Abstract:Strict partitions are enumerated with respect to the weight, the number of parts, and the number of sequences of odd length. We write this trivariate generating function as a double sum $q$-series. Equipped with such a combinatorial set-up, we investigate a handful of double sum identities appeared in recent works of Cao-Wang, Wang-Wang, Wei-Yu-Ruan, Andrews-Uncu, Chern, and Wang, finding partition theoretical interpretations to all of these identities, and in most cases supplying Franklin-type involutive proofs. This approach dates back more than a century to P. A. MacMahon's interpretations of the celebrated Rogers-Ramanujan identities, and has been further developed by Kurşungöz in the last decade.

Abstract:We define and study odd and even analogues of the major index statistics for the classical Weyl groups. More precisely, we show that the generating functions of these statistics, twisted by the one-dimensional characters of the corresponding groups, always factor in an explicit way. In particular, we obtain odd and even analogues of Carlitz's identity, of the Gessel-Simion Theorem, and a parabolic extension, and refinement, of a result of Wachs.

Abstract:Dedicated to George E. Andrews on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Submitted to a special issue for this occasion. We use Andrews' notion of a `signed partition' (i.e. partition where some parts are allowed to be negative) to interpret the Göllnitz--Gordon sum, and then provide a bijective map between these signed partitions and the usual Göllnitz--Gordon partitions (partitions with difference at least two between parts, and no consecutive even parts).

Abstract:Based on two involutions and a bijection, we completely determine the difference between the number of $\ell$-regular partitions of $n$ into an even number of parts and into an odd number of parts for all positive integers $n$ and $\ell>1$, which extends two recent results due to Ballantine and Merca. As an application, we provide a combinatorial proof of Hickerson's identity on the number of partitions into an even and odd number of parts.

Abstract:The well-known Worpitzky identity provides a connection between two bases of $\mathbb{Q}[x]$: The standard basis $(x+1)^n$ and the binomial basis ${{x+n-i} \choose {n}}$, where the Eulerian numbers for the Coxeter group of type $A$ (the symmetric group) serve as the entries of the transformation matrix. Brenti has generalized this identity to the Coxeter groups of types $B$ and $D$ (signed and even-signed permutations groups, respectively) using generating function techniques. Motivated by Foata-Schützenberger and Rawlings' proof for the Worpitzky identity in the symmetric group, we provide combinatorial proofs of this identity and for their $q-$analogues in the Coxeter groups of types $B$ and $D$.

Bressoud posed a conjecture on the generating function for the partition function $B(\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_\lambda;\eta,k,r;n)$ in multi-summation form.
