Abstract:We are concerned with the three-dimensional incompressible Navier- Stokes equations driven by an additive stochastic forcing of trace class. First, for every divergence free initial condition in L2 we establish existence of infinitely many global-in-time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions, solving one of the open problems in the field. This result, in partic-ular, implies nonuniqueness in law. Second, we prove nonuniqueness of the associated Markov processes in a suitably chosen class of analytically weak solutions satisfying a relaxed form of an energy inequality. Translated to the deterministic setting, we obtain nonuniqueness of the associated semiflows.

Abstract:We study the non-uniqueness of weak solutions for the two-dimensional hyper-dissipative Navier-Stokes equations in the super-critical spaces $L_{t}^{\gamma}L_{x}^{p}$ when $\alpha\in[1,\frac{3}{2})$, and obtain the conclusion that the non-uniqueness of the weak solutions at the endpoint $(\gamma,p)=(\infty, \frac{2}{2\alpha-1})$ is sharp in view of the generalized Ladyženskaja-Prodi-Serrin condition by using a different spatial-temporal building block from [Cheskidov-Luo, Ann. PDE, 9:13 (2023)] and taking advantage of the intermittency of the temporal concentrated function $g_{(k)}$ in an almost optimal way. Our results recover the above 2D non-uniqueness conclusion and extend to the hyper-dissipative case $\alpha \in(1,\frac{3}{2})$.

Non-unique ergodicity for deterministic and stochastic 3D Navier--Stokes and Euler equations

Abstract:We establish the existence of infinitely many stationary solutions, as well as ergodic stationary solutions, to the three dimensional Navier--Stokes and Euler equations in both deterministic and stochastic settings, driven by additive noise. These solutions belong to the regularity class $C(\mathbb{R};H^{\vartheta})\cap C^{\vartheta}(\mathbb{R};L^{2})$ for some $\vartheta>0$ and satisfy the equations in an analytically weak sense. The solutions to the Euler equations are obtained as vanishing viscosity limits of stationary solutions to the Navier--Stokes equations. Furthermore, regardless of their construction, every stationary solution to the Euler equations within this regularity class, which satisfies a suitable moment bound, is a limit in law of stationary analytically weak solutions to Navier--Stokes equations with vanishing viscosities. Our results are based on a novel stochastic version of the convex integration method, which provides uniform moment bounds locally in the aforementioned function spaces.

Existence and non-uniqueness of weak solutions with continuous energy to the 3D deterministic and stochastic Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:The continuity of the kinetic energy is an important property of incompressible viscous fluid flows. We show that for any prescribed finite energy divergence-free initial data there exist infinitely many global in time weak solutions with smooth energy profiles to both the 3D deterministic and stochastic incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In the stochastic case the constructed solutions are probabilistically strong. Our proof introduces a new backward convex integration scheme with delicate selections of initial relaxed solutions, backward time intervals, and energy profiles. Our initial relaxed solutions satisfy a new time-dependent frequency truncated NSE, different from the usual approximations as it decreases the large Reynolds error near the initial time, which plays a key role in the construction.

Abstract:This article studies the uniqueness of the weak solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations in the 3-dimensional case. Here, the investigation is provided using two different approaches. The first (the main) result is obtained for given functions possessing a certain smoothness using the new approach. The second result is without the complementary conditions but is, in some sense, the "local" result investigated by another approach. In addition, here the solvability and uniqueness of the weak solutions to auxiliary problems lead out from the main problem are investigated.

Abstract:We consider the stochastic Navier--Stokes equations in three dimensions and prove that the law of analytically weak solutions is not unique. In particular, we focus on two iconic examples of a stochastic perturbation: either an additive or a linear multiplicative noise driven by a Wiener process. In both cases, we develop a stochastic counterpart of the convex integration method introduced recently by Buckmaster and Vicol. This permits to construct probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions defined up to a suitable stopping time. In addition, these solutions fail the corresponding energy inequality at a prescribed time with a prescribed probability. Then we introduce a general probabilistic construction used to extend the convex integration solutions beyond the stopping time and in particular to the whole time interval $[0,\infty)$. Finally, we show that their law is distinct from the law of solutions obtained by Galerkin approximation. In particular, non-uniqueness in law holds on an arbitrary time interval $[0,T]$, $T>0$.

In this paper we establish a sharp nonuniqueness result for stochastic [math]-dimensional ([math]) incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. First, for every divergence-free initial condition in [math] we show existence of infinitly many global-in-time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions in the class [math] for any [math]. Second, we prove that the above result is sharp in the sense that pathwise uniqueness holds in the class of [math] for some [math] such that [math], which is a stochastic version of Ladyzhenskaya–Prodi–Serrin criteria. Moreover, for the stochastic [math]-dimensional incompressible Euler equation, the existence of infinitely many global-in-time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions is obtained. Compared to the stopping time argument used in Hoffmanová, Zhu, and Zhu [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS), to appear; Ann. Probab., 51 (2023), pp. 524–579], we developed a new stochastic version of the convex integration. Abstract:In this paper, we study the global well-posedness of a coupled system of kinetic and fluid equations. More precisely, we establish the global existence of weak solutions for Navier–Stokes–BGK system consisting of the BGK model of Boltzmann equation and incompressible Navier–Stokes equations coupled through a drag forcing term. This is achieved by combining weak compactness of the particle interaction operator based on Dunford–Pettis theorem, strong compactness of macroscopic fields of the kinetic part relied on velocity averaging lemma and a high order moment estimate, and strong compactness of the fluid part by Aubin–Lions lemma.

Abstract:We show global existence and non-uniqueness of probabilistically strong, analytically weak solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations perturbed by Stratonovich transport noise. We can prescribe either: \emph{i}) any divergence-free, square integrable intial condition; or \emph{ii}) the kinetic energy of solutions up to a stopping time, which can be chosen arbitrarily large with high probability. Solutions enjoy some Sobolev regularity in space but are not Leray-Hopf.

Abstract:In this article, we propose a novel version of three-dimensional (3D) globally modified Navier-Stokes (GMNS) system introduced by [Caraballo et. al., Adv. Nonlinear Stud. (2006), 6:411-436], which is very significant from the perspective of deterministic as well as stochastic partial differential equations. Our focus is on examining a stochastic version of the suggested 3D GMNS equations that are perturbed by an infinite-dimensional additive noise. We can consider a rough additive noise (Lebesgue space valued) with this model, which is not appropriate to consider with the system presented in [Caraballo et. al., Adv. Nonlinear Stud. (2006), 6:411-436]. One of the technical problems associated with the rough noise is overcome by the use of the corresponding Cameron-Martin (or reproducing kernel Hilbert) space. This article aims to accomplish three objectives. Firstly, we establish the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions (in the analytic sense) of the underlying stochastic system using a Doss-Sussman transformation and a primary ingredient Minty-Browder technique. Secondly, we demonstrate the existence of random attractors for the underlying stochastic system in the natural space of square integrable divergence-free functions. Finally, we show the existence of an invariant measure for the underlying stochastic system for any viscosity coefficient $ \nu > 0 $ and uniqueness of invariant measure for sufficiently large $\nu$ by using the exponential stability of solutions. A validation of the proposed version of 3D GMNS equations has also been discussed in the appendix by establishing that the sequence of weak solutions of 3D GMNS equations converges to a weak solution of 3D Navier-Stokes equations as the modification parameter goes to infinity.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove global existence of weak solutions for the stationary compressible Navier-Stokes equations with an anisotropic and nonlocal viscous term in a periodic domain. This gives an answer to an open problem important for applications in geophysics or in microuidics. The main idea is to adapt in a non-trivial way the new idea developped by the authors in a previous paper, see [2] which allowed them to treat the anisotropic compressible quasi-stationary Stokes system.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to study the Navier-Stokes-Voigt equations that govern flows with non-negative density of incompressible fluids with elastic properties. For the associated non-linear initial-and boundary-value problem, we prove the global-in-time existence of strong solutions (velocity, density and pressure). We also establish some other regularity properties of these solutions and find the conditions that guarantee the uniqueness of velocity and density. The main novelty of this work is the hypothesis that, in some subdomain of space, there may be a vacuum at the initial moment, that is, the possibility of the initial density vanishing in some part of the space domain.

Abstract:This paper proves existence of a global weak solution to the inhomogeneous (i.e., non-constant density) incompressible Navier–Stokes system with mass diffusion. The system is well-known as the Kazhikhov–Smagulov model. The major novelty of the paper is to deal with the Kazhikhov–Smagulov model possessing the non-constant viscosity without any simplification of higher order nonlinearity. Every global weak solution is shown to have a long time behavior that is consistent with mixing phenomena of miscible fluids. The results also contain a new compactness method of Aubin–Lions–Simon type.

Abstract:In this paper we prove the global in time well-posedness of strong solutions to the Quantum-Navier-Stokes equation driven by random initial data and stochastic external force. In particular, we first give a general local well-posedness result. Then, by means of the Bresch-Desjardins entropy, higher order energy estimates, and a continuation argument we prove that the density never vanishes, and thus that local strong solutions are indeed global.
