Abstract:We compute the 5PM order contributions to the scattering angle and impulse of classical black hole scattering in the conservative sector at first self-force order (1SF) using the worldline quantum field theory formalism. This challenging four-loop computation required the use of advanced integration-by-parts and differential equation technology implemented on high-performance computing systems. Use of partial fraction identities allowed us to render the complete integrand in a fully planar form. The resulting function space is simpler than expected: in the scattering angle we see only multiple polylogarithms up to weight three, and a total absence of the elliptic integrals that appeared at 4PM order. All checks on our result, both internal - cancellation of dimensional regularization poles, preservation of the on-shell condition - and external - matching the slow-velocity limit with the post-Newtonian (PN) literature up to 5PN order and matching the tail terms to the 4PM loss of energy - are passed.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to solve the problems of high - order Post - Minkowskian (PM) and Self - Force (SF) effects in the black - hole scattering process. Specifically, the goal of the paper is to calculate the contributions of the fifth Post - Minkowskian order (5PM) and the first Self - Force order (1SF) to the angle and impulse of classical black - hole scattering in the conservative part.
### Background and Problem Description of the Paper
**Background**:
- **Gravitational Wave Observation**: Currently, the LIGO - Virgo - KAGRA gravitational wave detectors are already able to routinely observe the merger events of binary black holes (BH) and neutron stars (NS). With the approval of the third - generation gravitational wave detectors and LISA, the experimental precision will be further improved, thus providing unprecedented insights into gravity, astrophysics, nuclear physics, and fundamental physics.
- **Theoretical Requirements**: In order to meet the requirements of these high - precision experiments, it is necessary to combine perturbative analysis methods and numerical simulations to solve the classical general - relativistic two - body problem. This includes the post - Newtonian expansion (PN), the post - Minkowskian expansion (PM), and the gravitational self - force (SF) method.
**Problem**:
- **Calculation at 5PM Order**: Currently, the highest calculated order for the scattering angle and impulse is 4PM (i.e., the \( G^4 \) order), which is achieved by calculating three - loop, single - parameter Feynman integrals. To progress to the 5PM order, it is necessary to calculate four - loop Feynman integrals, especially the spin - free contribution (5, 0) and the contribution of the first self - force order (1SF).
- **Self - Force Expansion**: The self - force expansion is a method that assumes a hierarchical structure of the masses of two black holes or neutron stars, i.e., \( m_1\ll m_2 \), but precisely deals with the effects of \( G \). Combining the PM loop expansion with the self - force expansion can study the binary black - hole scattering problem more systematically.
### Research Methods and Results
**Methods**:
- **Worldline Quantum Field Theory (WQFT)**: Use the WQFT formalism to generate integral expressions and "flatten" them through partial fraction identities for easy integration.
- **Integral Reduction**: Use the improved Kira software for integration - by - parts (IBP) reduction to simplify complex multi - loop integrals into master integrals.
- **Differential Equations**: Solve the master integrals by the differential equation method and finally obtain the analytical expressions of the scattering angle and impulse.
**Results**:
- **Scattering Angle at 5PM - 1SF Order**: The paper successfully calculates the scattering angle at 5PM - 1SF order, and its result only contains multiple polylogarithm functions (MPLs) with weight 3, and no elliptic integrals appear. This result is unexpected because elliptic integrals appeared in the 4PM - order calculation.
- **Verification**: Verify the correctness of the calculation results by matching the total momentum conservation, the post - Newtonian expansion in the slow - speed limit, and the tail - term energy loss.
### Conclusion
This paper successfully solves the black - hole scattering problem at 5PM - 1SF order through advanced computational techniques and high - precision integration methods. This achievement not only promotes the development of black - hole scattering theory but also provides important theoretical support for future gravitational - wave data analysis.
