Abstract:A novel selection principle was introduced by Dorantes-Aldama and Shakhmatov: a topological space $X$ is termed {\em selectively pseudocompact} if for any sequence $(U_n:n\in {\omega})$ of pairwise disjoint non-empty open sets of $X$, one can choose points $x_n\in U_n$ such that the sequence $(x_n:n\in {\omega})$ has an accumulation point. In this paper, we explore various versions of this principle when we permit the selection of finite, scattered, or nowhere dense sets instead of just singletons. We develop a method to prove that the aforementioned versions of selective pseudocompactness are indeed distinct from one another.

Abstract:Given any regular T 0 (equivalently, regular T 1 ) space X , the question of whether X being Lindelöf implies X being a D -space is an active open problem. This article gives a class of handy examples of a second countable collectionwise normal collectionwise Hausdorff T 0 space of uncountable cardinal, with at most countably many singletons being not closed, that is not a D -space. Also given is a class of handy examples of a second countable hyperconnected T 0 space of uncountable cardinal, with at most countably many singletons being not closed, that is not a D -space.

Abstract:All spaces are assumed to be Tychonoff. Given a realcompact space X, we denote by the smallest infinite cardinal such that X is homeomorphic to a closed subspace of . Our main result shows that, given a cardinal , the following conditions are equivalent: • There exists a countable crowded space X such that . • . In fact, in the case , every countable dense subspace of provides such an example. This will follow from our analysis of the pseudocharacter of countable subsets of products of first-countable spaces. Finally, we show that a scattered space of weight has pseudocharacter at most in any compactification. This will allow us to calculate for an arbitrary (that is, not necessarily crowded) countable space X.

Pseudocompact versus countably compact in first countable spaces

Abstract:The primary objective of this work is to construct spaces that are "pseudocompact but not countably compact," abbreviated as PNC, while endowing them with additional properties. First, motivated by an old problem of van Douwen, we construct from CH a locally compact and locally countable first countable PNC space with countable spread. A space is deemed "densely countably compact", denoted as DCC for brevity, if it possesses a dense, countable compact subspace. Moreover, a space qualifies as "densely relatively countably compact", abbreviated as DRC, if it contains a dense subset $D$ such that every infinite subset of $D$ has an accumulation point in $X$. A countably compact space is DCC, a DCC space is DRC, and a DRC space is evidently pseudocompact. The Tychonoff plank is a DCC space but is not countably compact. A $\Psi$-space belongs to the class of DRC spaces but is not DCC. Lastly, if $p\in {\omega}^*$ is not a P-point, then $T(p)$, representing the type of $p$ in ${\omega}^*$, constitutes a pseudocompact subspace of ${\omega}^*$ that is not \DRC. When considering a topological property denoted as $Q$, we define a space $X$ as "hereditarily $Q$" if every regular closed subspace of $X$ also possesses property $Q$. The Tychonoff plank and the $\Psi$-spaces are not hereditary examples. However, the aforementioned space $T(p)$ is a hereditary example, albeit not being first countable.

Abstract:We say that a topological space X is selectively sequentially pseudocompact if for every family {Un:n∈N} of non-empty open subsets of X, one can choose a point xn∈Un for every n∈N in such a way that the sequence {xn:n∈N} has a convergent subsequence. We show that the class of selectively sequentially pseudocompact spaces is closed under arbitrary products and continuous images, contains the class of all dyadic spaces and forms a proper subclass of the class of strongly pseudocompact spaces introduced recently by García-Ferreira and Ortiz-Castillo. We investigate basic properties of this new class and its relations with known compactness properties. We prove that every ω-bounded (= the closure of each countable set is compact) group is selectively sequentially pseudocompact, while compact spaces need not be selectively sequentially pseudocompact. Finally, we construct selectively sequentially pseudocompact group topologies on both the free group and the free Abelian group with continuum-many generators.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some properties of s-spaces. By means of the addition theorem and the theory of remainders,the following properties are established: (1)if an s-space X is the union of a countable family of metrizable subspaces,then X is sequential;(2)if G is a non-locally compact topological group with a compactification bG such that Y =bG\G is hereditarily an s-space, then either G is separable and metrizable, or G is σ-compact, which generalize and improve some results about s-spaces by Arhangel'skii.

Abstract:A topological space $Y$ has the property (B) of Banakh if there is a countable family $\{A_n:n\in \mathbb{N}\}$ of closed nowhere dense subsets of $Y$ absorbing all compact subsets of $Y$. In this note we show that the space $C_p(X)$ of continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonoff space $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence, fails to satisfy the property (B) if and only if the space $X$ has the following property $(\kappa)$: every sequence of disjoint finite subsets of $X$ has a subsequence with point--finite open expansion. Additionally, we provide an analogous characterization for the compact--open topology on $C(X)$. Finally, we give examples of Tychonoff spaces $X$ whose all bounded subsets are finite, yet $X$ fails to have the property $(\kappa)$. This answers a question of Tkachuk.

Abstract:In this paper, we shall study categorial properties of the hyperspace of all nontrivial convergent sequences $\mathcal{S}_c(X)$ of a Freéch-Urysohn space $X$, this hyperspace is equipped with the Vietoris topology. We mainly prove that $\mathcal{S}_c(X)$ is meager whenever $X$ is a crowded space, as a corollary we obtain that if $\mathcal{S}_c(X)$ is Baire, the $X$ has a dense subset of isolated points. As an interesting example $\mathcal{S}_c(\omega_1)$ has the Baire property, where $\omega_1$ carries the order topology (this answers a question from \cite{sal-yas}). We can give more examples like this one by proving that the Alexandroff duplicated $\mathcal{A}(Z)$ of a space $Z$ satisfies that $\mathcal{S}_c(\mathcal{A}(Z))$ has the Baire property, whenever $Z$ is a $\Sigma$-product of completely metrizable spaces and $Z$ is crowded. Also we show that if $\mathcal{S}_c(X)$ is pseudocompact, then $X$ has a relatively countably compact dense subset of isolated points, every finite power of $X$ is pseudocompact, and every $G_\delta$-point in $X$ must be isolated. We also establish several topological properties of the hyperspace of nontrivial convergent sequences of countable Freéch-Urysohn spaces with only one non-isolated point.

Abstract:We show that the category of truncated spaces with finite homotopy invariants ($\pi$\=/finite spaces) has many of the features expected of an elementary \oo topos. It should be thought of as the natural higher analogue of the elementary 1-topos of finite sets. We prove several initiality results for this \oo category. The paper has also an appendix about univalent families in \oo pretopoi.

Abstract:A topological space X is called almost discrete, if it has precisely one nonisolated point. In this paper, we get that for a countable product X=∏Xi of almost discrete spaces Xi the space Cp(X) of all continuous real-valued functions with the topology of pointwise convergence is a μ -space if, and only if, X is a weak q -space if, and only if, t(X)=ω if, and only if, X is functionally generated by the family of all its countable subspaces. This result makes it possible to solve Archangel'skii's problem on the product of Grothendieck spaces. It is proved that in the model of ZFC , obtained by adding one Cohen real, there are Grothendieck spaces X and Y such that X×Y is not weakly Grothendieck space. In (PFA) : the product of any countable family almost discrete Grothendieck spaces is a Grothendieck space.

Abstract:The authors' primary goal in this paper is to enhance the study of topological spaces by using the order of specialization of a -space to introduce the lower topology (with a subbasis of closed sets ) and studying the interaction of the original topology and the lower topology. Using the lower topology, one can define and study new properties of the original space that provide deeper insight into its structure. One focus of study is the property R, which asserts that if the intersection of a family of finitely generated sets , finite, is contained in an open set , then the same is true for finitely many of the family. We first show that property R is equivalent to several other interesting properties, for example, the property that all closed subsets of the original space are compact in the lower topology. We then find conditions under which these spaces are compact, well-filtered, and coherent, a weaker variant of stably compact spaces. We also investigate what have been called strong -spaces, develop some of their basic properties, and make connections with the earlier considerations involving spaces satisfying property R. Two key results we obtain are that if a dcpo with the Scott topology is a strong -space, then it is well-filtered, and if additionally the Scott topology of the product is the product of the Scott topologies of the factors, then the Scott space of is sober. We also exhibit connections of this work with de Groot duality.

Strongly discrete subsets with Lindelöf closures

Abstract:We define a topological space to be an "SDL space" if the closure of each one of its strongly discrete subsets is Lindelöf. After distinguishing this property from the Lindelöf property we make various remarks about cardinal invariants of SDL spaces. For example we prove that $|X| \leq 2^{\chi(X)}$ for every SDL Urysohn space and that every SDL $P$-space of character $\leq \omega_1$ is regular and has cardinality $\leq 2^{\omega_1}$. Finally, we exploit our results to obtain some partial answers to questions about the cardinality of cellular-Lindelöf spaces.

Abstract:Let $X$ and $Y$ be metrizable spaces and suppose that there exists a uniformly continuous surjection $T: C_{p}(X) \to C_{p}(Y)$ (resp., $T: C_{p}^*(X) \to C_{p}^*(Y)$), where $C_{p}(X)$ (resp., $C_{p}^*(X)$) denotes the space of all real-valued continuous (resp., continuous and bounded) functions on $X$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. We show that if additionally $T$ is an inversely bounded mapping and $X$ has some dimensional-like property $\mathcal P$, then so does $Y$. For example, this is true if $\mathcal P$ is one of the following properties: zero-dimensionality, countable-dimensionality or strong countable-dimensionality. Also, we consider other properties $\mathcal P$: of being a scattered, or a strongly $\sigma$-scattered space, or being a $\Delta_1$-space (see [17]). Our results strengthen and extend several results from [6], [13], [17].

Abstract:A topological space (X, tau) is a D-space if for every function phi: X -> tau with x is an element of phi(x) for each x is an element of X, {phi(x) : x is an element of F} covers X for some closed discrete subset F of X. The Michael line M, one of the most important elementary examples in general topology, is the Euclidean space IR isolating the irrationals. In this note we show that (1) the minimal dense linearly ordered extension of M is hereditarily paracompact, but not monotonically D; (2) the minimal closed linearly ordered extension of M is monotonically D; (3) if the space X is a D-space (resp., a monotone D-space), then so is its Alexandroff duplicate space A(X) and thus A(M) is monotonically D.
