Abstract:We prove that compact Calabi--Yau varieties with certain isolated singularities are projective. In dimension 3 we do this by analysis, supposing given conifold metrics. In higher dimensions it follows more readily from Ohsawa's degenerate spectral sequence.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.
A Global Torelli Theorem for Calabi-Yau Manifolds

Abstract: We describe the proof that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds to the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures is an embedding. The proof is based on the constructions of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and Hodge metric completion of the Torelli space. A canonical global holomorphic section of the holomorphic $(n, 0)$ class on the Teichm\"uller space is constructed.

Abstract:We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and the Kodaira–Spencer–Kuranishi deformation theory of Kähler manifolds. As applications, we present a construction of globally convergent power series of integrable Beltrami differentials on Calabi–Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic (n,0) -forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi–Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kähler manifolds.

Abstract:The 1950s belong to one of the most glorious decades for geometry and topology.A group of young mathematicians established a wealth of great theorems, made ground breaking discoveries, and created a new era in mathematics.These men leave their names in the history of mathematics.Hodge theory was just completed by Weyl and Kodaira in 1941.By exploiting the Chern characteristic classes introduced by Shiing-Shen Chern, Hirzebruch proved the signature theorem and the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch theorem in algebraic geometry in 1956.The engineer-turn-mathematician Bott proved the periodicity theorem on homotopy groups.These results would soon inspire Atiyah and Singer to prove their index theorem.Serre calculated the homotopy groups of spheres in algebraic topology using Leray spectral sequence, wrote the famous GAGA in algebraic geometry using sheaf theory, and systematically introduced complex analysis to algebraic geometry.Kodaira proved his famous embedding theorem, and developed deformation theory of complex manifolds.Later, Milnor found the first exotic sphere in dimension 7 and Nash proved his isometric embedding theorem for Riemannian manifolds.These great results are like stars shining in the sky.On Amsterdam's 1954 International Congress of Mathematicians, Kodaira and Serre were awarded Fields medals.Both of their works merged complex analysis, differential geometry and algebraic geometry in a miraculous fashion.As Weyl said in his famous encomium: "You reached heights of which I never dreamt… It shows that the old gnarled tree of mathematics is still full of sap and life."On the very occasion, Eugenio Calabi, a 31-year-old Italian-American mathematician, wrote down his famous conjecture on a sheet of paper during his talk, "For any (1,1)-form R in the first Chern class of a compact Kähler manifold, there exists a unique Kähler metric whose Ricci form is equal to R." Abstract:We discover a “no semistability at infinity” phenomenon for complete Calabi-Yau metrics asymptotic to cones, which is proved by eliminating the possible appearance of an intermediate K-semistable cone in the 2-step degeneration theory developed by Donaldson and the first author. It is in sharp contrast to the setting of local singularities of Kähler-Einstein metrics. A byproduct of the proof is a polynomial convergence rate to the asymptotic cone for such manifolds, which bridges the gap between the general theory of Colding-Minicozzi and the classification results of Conlon-Hein.
Compact moduli of Calabi-Yau cones and Sasaki-Einstein spaces

Abstract:We construct proper moduli algebraic spaces of K-polystable $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano cones (a.k.a. Calabi-Yau cones) or equivalently their links i.e., Sasaki-Einstein manifolds with singularities. As a byproduct, it gives alternative algebraic construction of proper K-moduli of $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano varieties. In contrast to the previous algebraic proof of its properness ([BHLLX, LXZ]), we do not use the $\delta$-invariants ([FO, BJ]) nor the $L^2$-normalized Donaldson-Futaki invariants. We use the local normalized volume of [Li] and the higher $\Theta$-stable reduction instead.

Abstract:We give a simplified and more algebraic proof of the finiteness of the families of Calabi-Yau n-folds with non-vanishing of Yukawa-coupling over a fixed base curve and with fixed degeneration locus. We also give a generalization of this result. Our method is variation of Hodge structure and poly-stability of Higgs bundles.

Abstract:We construct polarized Calabi--Yau 3-folds with at worst isolated canonical orbifold points in codimension 4 that can be described in terms of the equations of the Segre embedding of $\mathbb P^2 \times \mathbb P^2$ in $\mathbb P^8$. We investigate the existence of other deformation families in their Hilbert scheme by either studying Tom and Jerry degenerations or by comparing their Hilbert series with those of existing low codimension Calabi--Yau 3-folds. Among other interesting results, we find a family of Calabi--Yau 3-fold with five distinct Tom and Jerry deformation families, a phenomenon not seen for $\mathbb Q$-Fano 3-folds. We compute the Hodge numbers of $\mathbb P^2 \times \mathbb P^2 $ Calabi--Yau 3-folds and corresponding manifolds obtained by performing crepant resolutions. We obtain a manifold with a pair of Hodge numbers that does not appear in the famously known list of 30108 distinct Hodge pairs of Kruzer--Skarke, in the list of 7890 distinct Hodge pairs corresponding to complete intersections in the product of projective spaces and in Hodge paris obtained from Calabi--Yau 3-folds having low codimension embeddings in weighted projective spaces.

Abstract:We announce a proof of Calabi's conjectures on the Ricci curvature of a compact Kähler manifold and then apply it to prove some new results in algebraic geometry and differential geometry. For example, we prove that the only Kähler structure on a complex projective space is the standard one.

Abstract:We consider generalized complete intersection manifolds in the product space of projective spaces, and work out useful aspects pertaining to the cohomology of sheaves over them. First, we present and prove a vanishing theorem on the cohomology groups of sheaves for subvarieties of the ambient product space of projective spaces. We then prove an equivalence between configuration matrices of complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also present a formula of the genus of curves in generalized complete intersection manifolds. Some of these curves arise as the fixed point locus of certain symmetry group action on the generalized complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also make a blowing-up along the curves, by which one can generate new Calabi-Yau manifolds. Moreover, an approach on spectral sequences is used to compute Hodge numbers of generalized complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds and the genus of curves therein.
Deformations of Calabi-Yau varieties with isolated log canonical singularities

Abstract:Recent progress in the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau varieties $Y$ with canonical singularities has highlighted the key role played by the higher Du Bois and higher rational singularities, and especially by the so-called $k$-liminal singularities for $k\ge 1$. The goal of this paper is to show that certain aspects of this study extend naturally to the $0$-liminal case as well, i.e. to Calabi-Yau varieties $Y$ with Gorenstein log canonical, but not canonical, singularities. In particular, we show the existence of first order smoothings of $Y$ in the case of isolated $0$-liminal hypersurface singularities, and extend Namikawa's unobstructedness theorem for deformations of singular Calabi-Yau threefolds $Y$ with canonical singularities to the case where $Y$ has an isolated $0$-liminal lci singularity under suitable hypotheses. Finally, we describe an interesting series of examples.

Abstract:We define an integer-valued virtual count of embedded pseudo-holomorphic curves of two times a primitive homology class and arbitrary genus in symplectic Calabi--Yau $3$-folds, which can be viewed as an extension of Taubes' Gromov invariant. The construction depends on a detailed study of bifurcations of moduli spaces of embedded pseudo-holomorphic curves which is partially motivated by Wendl's recent solution of Bryan--Pandharipande's super-rigidity conjecture.

Abstract:We investigate topological properties of Calabi-Yau four-folds and consider a wide class of explicit constructions in weighted projective spaces and, more generally, toric varieties. Divisors which lead to a non-perturbative superpotential in the effective theory have a very simple description in the toric construction. Relevant properties of them follow just by counting lattice points and can also be used to construct examples with negative Euler number. We study nets of transitions between cases with generically smooth elliptic fibres and cases with ADE gauge symmetries in the N = 1 theory due to degenerations of the fibre over codimension one loci in the base. Finally we investigate the quantum cohomology ring of this four-folds using Frobenius algebra.

Abstract:We prove that a generic complete intersection Calabi–Yau threefold defined by sections of ample line bundles on a product of projective spaces admits a conifold transition to a connected sum of S3 × S3. In this manner, we obtain complex structures with trivial canonical bundles on some connected sums of S3 × S3. This construction is an analogue of that made by Friedman, Lu and Tian who used quintics in ℙ4.
Universally counting curves in Calabi--Yau threefolds

Abstract:We show that curve enumeration invariants of complex threefolds with nef anti-canonical bundle are determined by their values on local curves. This statement and its proof are inspired by the proof of the Gopakumar--Vafa integrality conjecture by Ionel and Parker. The conjecture of Maulik, Nekrasov, Okounkov, and Pandharipande relating Gromov--Witten and Donaldson--Pandharipande-Thomas invariants is known for local curves by work of Bryan, Okounkov, and Pandharipande, hence holds for all complex threefolds with nef anti-canonical bundle (in particular, all Calabi--Yau threefolds).

Abstract:The Calabi–Yau property of the Poincaré–Birkhoff–Witt deformation of a Koszul Calabi–Yau algebra is characterized. Berger and Taillefer (J Noncommut Geom 1:241–270, 2007, Theorem 3.6) proved that the Poincaré–Birkhoff–Witt deformation of a Calabi–Yau algebra of dimension 3 is Calabi–Yau under some conditions. The main result in this paper generalizes their result to higher dimensional Koszul Calabi–Yau algebras. As corollaries, the necessary and sufficient condition obtained by He et al. (J Algebra 324:1921–1939, 2010) for the universal enveloping algebra, respectively, Sridharan enveloping algebra, of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra to be Calabi–Yau, is derived.

Abstract:We describe a Lie Algebra on the moduli space of non-rigid compact Calabi–Yau threefolds enhanced with differential forms and its relation to the Bershadsky–Cecotti–Ooguri–Vafa holomorphic anomaly equation. In particular, we describe algebraic topological string partition functions ${{\bf F}_{g}^{\rm alg}, g \geq 1}$, which encode the polynomial structure of holomorphic and non-holomorphic topological string partition functions. Our approach is based on Grothendieck’s algebraic de Rham cohomology and on the algebraic Gauss–Manin connection. In this way, we recover a result of Yamaguchi–Yau and Alim–Länge in an algebraic context. Our proofs use the fact that the special polynomial generators defined using the special geometry of deformation spaces of Calabi–Yau threefolds correspond to coordinates on such a moduli space. We discuss the mirror quintic as an example.

Abstract:We determine several classes of smooth complex projective surfaces on which Zariski decomposition can be combined with vanishing theorems to yield cohomology formulae for all line bundles. The obtained formulae express cohomologies in terms of divisor class intersections, and are adapted to the decomposition of the effective cone into Zariski chambers. In particular, we show this occurs on generalised del Pezzo surfaces, toric surfaces, and K3 surfaces. In the second part we use these surface results to derive formulae for all line bundle cohomology on a simple class of elliptically fibered Calabi–Yau three-folds. Computing such quantities is a crucial step in deriving the massless spectrum in string compactifications.
