Abstract:The localization problem for massive fermions in the 5D standing wave braneworld is considered. The fermion generations on the brane are explained by the existence of three nodes of standing waves in the bulk, where the left and right modes of the 5D fermion are localized and Dirac-type couplings mixes them. We show that in this model the structure of peaks of the left and right fermion wavefunctions in extra dimension leads to the observed mass spectrum of the up and down quark families.

Abstract:This study delves deeply into braneworld scenarios within modified gravity models, investigating their impact on particle localization and the structure of branes. Through a comprehensive blend of numerical analyses and theoretical inquiries, we unravel a nuanced correlation between deviations from standard General Relativity (GR) and the emergence of split branes. By employing probabilistic measurements, we pinpoint stable configurations that align with brane division intervals, thus challenging prevailing assumptions regarding the gravitational framework of our universe. Furthermore, our investigation extends to the localization of fermions within the brane, exposing intricate dynamics shaped by scalar field characteristics and modifications to gravitational models. By harnessing quantum information measurements, notably Shannon entropy, we discern heightened probabilities of fermion localization within the brane as gravitational models diverge from standard paradigms. This underscores the limitations of General Relativity in comprehensively describing the complexities inherent in our universe. Lastly, our exploration of massive fermions unveils their potential to breach the confines of the brane, hinting at promising avenues for future experimental endeavors aimed at probing the nature of extra dimensions and gravitational interactions. This suggests exciting prospects for advancing our understanding of fundamental physics beyond conventional boundaries.

Localization of Spinor Fields in Higher-Dimensional Braneworlds

Abstract:This study investigates the localization of spinor fields in braneworld models in six or higher dimensions. We study the relationship between fermions in spacetimes of $2n+2$ and $2n$ dimensions. In conformally flat extra-dimensional spacetime, fermions cannot be localized through minimal coupling with gravity. To achieve the localization of spinor fields, we introduce a tensor coupling term given by $\bar{\Psi} \Gamma^{M}\Gamma^{N}\Gamma^{P}\cdots T_{MNP\cdots} \Psi$, which ensures $SO(n, 1)$ symmetry. For a tensor $T_{MNP\cdots}$ of odd order, the left and right chiralities of high-dimensional spinors are decoupled. We find that a special form of tensor coupling $\bar{\Psi}\Gamma^{M} \partial_M {F(\phi, R, R^{\mu\nu}R_{\mu\nu},\cdots)} \Psi$ may facilitate the localization of the spinor field when $F(\phi) = \phi^n$.

Abstract:In a recent paper published in this journal, Almeida and collaborators [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{79}, 125022 (2009)] analyze the issue of fermion localization of fermions on a brane constructed from two scalar fields coupled with gravity (Bloch brane model). In this meritorious research the simplest Yukawa coupling $\eta\bar{\Psi}\phi\chi\Psi$ was considered. In that work does not analyze the zero mode in details. In this paper, the localization of fermions on two-field thick branes is reinvestigated. It is found that the simplest Yukawa coupling does not support the localization of fermions on the brane. In addition, the problem of fermion localization for some other Yukawa couplings are analyzed. It is shown that the zero mode for left-handed and right-handed fermions can be localized on the brane depending on the values for the coupling constant $\eta$ and the Bloch brane's parameter $a$.

Abstract:This study aims into brane-world scenarios within the framework of f ( R , A ) gravity called Ricci-inverse modified theory, exploring the dynamics of spin-1/2 fermions coupled non-minimally to background scalar field functions. Through theoretical analysis and numerical techniques, we investigate the localization of both massless and massive fermionic modes on the brane. Our findings shows intricate phenomena, including unexpected configurations of the effective potentials and the identification of resonance modes in massive fermionic spectra. These insights shed light on the interplay between modified gravity and matter in extra-dimensional models, offering promising avenues for experimental validation and furthering our understanding of fundamental physics.

Localization of matter fields on a chameleon brane

Abstract:In this work, we address the localization problem of vector field in the chameleon braneworld and investigate the localization of various matter fields. The conditions for localizing the matter fields are determined. It is found that the zero modes of scalar, vector, and fermion fields can be successfully localized, yet the zero mode of Kalb-Ramond field cannot be localized, which implies that the recovery of standard model fields on the brane. Furthermore, the characteristics of quasi-localized modes of the $q$-form fields are analyzed, and the parameter constraints of the model are estimated.

Exploring Unique Quasinormal Modes of a Massive Scalar Field in Brane-World Scenarios

Abstract:We compute precise values of quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field in the background of the Schwarzschild-like brane-localised black holes. It is shown that the quasinormal spectrum of the massive field differs qualitatively from that previously known for other black hole models, due to the presence of two kinds of modes: those whose damping rate vanishes as the mass of the field $\mu$ increases up to some critical value, and those whose real oscillation frequency vanishes at a certain value of $\mu$. While the first type of modes, which are arbitrarily long-lived, are recognized in various four-dimensional backgrounds as quasi-resonances, the second type is a novel feature for asymptotically flat black holes. When $Re (\omega)$ reaches zero, the fundamental mode disappears from the spectrum and the first overtone becomes the fundamental mode. We also demonstrate that quasi-resonances may not exist for brane-localised black holes immersed in $D\geq 6$ - dimensional bulk.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a coupling mechanism between the kinetic term and the gravity, in which a coupling function $F(R)$ is introduced into the kinetic term of the five-dimensional scalar field. Based on this scenario, we investigate the localization of scalar fields in three specific braneworld models: the Minkowski brane, the de Sitter brane, and the Anti-de Sitter brane. The brane models considered here are regular with no singularity for scalar curvature. For the Minkowshi brane case, the zero mode can always be localized on the brane, and the massive modes can be localized or quasi-localized on the brane. For the dS$_4$ brane case, two forms of factor $F(R)$ is considered. The zero mode can always be localized, and the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the brane. Besides, with the second coupling factor, the scalar zero mode could be localized on the both sides of the origin of extra dimension, while the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the origin. Lastly, for the AdS$_4$ brane case, the localization of the scalar zero mode requires the consideration of a coupling potential $V(\Phi,\varphi)$, while the massive modes can still be localized on the brane with an infinite number.

Abstract:In looking for imprints of extra dimensions in brane world models one usually builts these so that they are compatible with known low energy physics and thus focuses on high energy effects. Nevertheless, just as submillimeter Newton's law tests probe the mode structure of gravity other low energy tests might apply to matter. As a model example, in this work we determine the 4D Casimir force corresponding to a scalar field subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions on two parallel planes lying within the single brane of a Randall-Sundrum scenario extended by one compact extra dimension. Using the Green's function method such a force picks the contribution of each field mode as if it acted individually but with a weight given by the square of the mode wave functions on the brane. In the low energy regime one regains the standard 4D Casimir force that is associated to a zero mode in the massless case or to a quasilocalized or resonant mode in the massive one whilst the effect of the extra dimensions gets encoded as an additional term.

Abstract:This work establishes a series of no-go conjectures that impose rigorous constraints on the localization of bulk fields in braneworld scenarios, specifically affecting gauge and spinor fields within five-dimensional spacetimes. Our approach differs from traditional methods as it does not rely on specific equations of motion, making our results broadly applicable across various braneworld models. These no-go conditions reveal fundamental limitations in field localization, challenging the feasibility of embedding fields on the brane. For instance, our analysis demonstrates that existing models fail to achieve consistent localization for gauge and spinor fields. Additionally, one of our conditions indicates that the effective Lagrangian on the brane cannot exhibit conformal invariance.

Abstract:We suggest a thick braneworld model in the squared curvature gravity theory. Despite the appearance of higher order derivatives, the localization of gravity and various bulk matter fields is shown to be possible. The existence of the normalizable gravitational zero mode indicates that our four-dimensional gravity is reproduced. In order to localize the chiral fermions on the brane, two types of coupling between the fermions and the brane forming scalar is introduced. The first coupling leads us to a Schrödinger equation with a volcano potential, and the other a Pöschl-Teller potential. In both cases, the zero mode exists only for the left-hand fermions. Several massive KK states of the fermions can be trapped on the brane, either as resonant states or as bound states.

Abstract:In the context of braneworld scenarios, the real scalar field plays a crucial role by providing thickness for brane. In this work, we investigate a codimension-one thick brane within the framework of $f(R,Q,P)$ gravity, where $R$ represents the curvature scalar, while $Q=R_{\mu\nu}R^{\mu\nu}$ and $P=R_{\mu\nu\alpha\beta}R^{\mu\nu\alpha\beta}$ are quadratic geometric invariants. Our interest is to investigate the influence of these invariants on the scalar field solution and the energy density of the brane. Furthermore, we analyze the localization of spin $1/2$ fermions and the gravitino by employing a Yukawa-like coupling with the scalar field background. Such a coupling is able to produce a normalizable zero-mode for both fields.

Abstract:We found cosmological solution of the 6D standing wave braneworld model generated by gravity coupled to a massless scalar phantom-like field. By obtaining a full exact solution of the model we found a novel dynamical mechanism in which the anisotropic nature of the primordial metric gives rise to expansion of three spatial brane dimensions and affectively reduction of other spatial directions. This dynamical mechanism can be relevant for dimensional reduction in string and other higher dimensional theories in the attempt of getting a 4D isotropic expanding space-time.

Abstract:This work tries to find out thick brane solutions in braneworld scenarios described by a real scalar field in the presence of a scalar-kinetic term F(X, phi) = X phi(m) with a single extra dimension, where X = 1/2 del(M)phi del(M)phi stands for the standard kinetic term and m = 0, 1, 2... . We mainly consider bent branes, namely de Sitter and anti-de Sitter four-dimensional slices. The solutions of a flat brane are obtained when taking the four-dimensional cosmological constant Lambda(4) -> 0. When the parameter m = 0, these solutions turn to those of the standard scenario. Multiresonance modes in sine-Gordon brane models

Abstract:In this work, we study the localization of the vector gauge field in two five-dimensional braneworlds generated by scalar fields coupled to gravity. The sine-Gordon like potentials are employed to produce different thick brane setups. A zero mode localized is obtained, and we show the existence of reverberations with the wave solutions indicating a quasi-localized massive mode. More interesting results are achieved when we propose a double sine-Gordon potential to the scalar field. The resulting thick brane shows a more detailed topology with the presence of an internal structure composed by two kinks. The massive spectrum of the gauge field is revalued on this scenario revealing the existence of various resonant modes. Furthermore, we compute the corrections to Coulomb law coming from these massive KK vector modes in these thick scenarios, where is concluded that the dilaton parameter regulates these corrections.

Brane Structure and Metastable Graviton in Five-Dimensional Model with (non)canonical Scalar Field

Abstract:The appearance of inner brane structure is an interesting issue in domain wall brane model. Because such structure usually leads to quasilocalized modes of various kinds of bulk fields. In this paper, we construct a domain wall brane model by using a scalar field ϕ, which couples to its kinetic term. The inner brane structure emerges as the scalar-kinetic coupling increases. With such brane structure, we show that it is possible to obtain gravity resonant modes in both tensor and scalar sectors. The number of the resonant modes depends on the vacuum expectation value of ϕ and the form of scalar-kinetic coupling. The correspondence between our model and the canonical one is also discussed. The noncanonical and canonical background scalar fields are connected by an integral equation, while the warp factor remains the same. Via this correspondence, the canonical and noncanonical models share the same linear perturbation spectrum. So the gravity resonances obtained in the noncanonical frame can also be obtained in the standard model. However, due to the inequivalence between the corresponding background scalar solutions, the localization condition for the left-chiral fermion zero mode can be largely different in different frames. Our estimate shows that the magnitude of the Yukawa coupling in the noncanonical frame might be hundreds times larger than the one in the canonical frame, if one demands the localization of the left-chiral fermion zero mode as well as the appearance of a few gravity resonance modes.
Scalar fields, localized structures and the Starobinsky model

Abstract:This work deals with the presence of localized static structures in the real line, described by relativistic real scalar fields in two spacetime dimensions. We consider models featuring both standard and modified kinematics, where we employ two intriguing potentials supporting defect solutions. The first potential can transform kink into compacton in the standard framework, while the second one is based on the inflationary Starobinsky model. Interesting possibilities unseen in previous investigations are described, in particular, for the case related to the Starobinsky potential. The addressed potentials are inserted into a broader framework, and so the extended models are described by a wider set of solutions. This investigation also reveals the presence of the twinlike behavior for a specific compact configuration, which solves two distinct models.

Abstract:We consider the static domain wall braneworld scenario constructed from the Palatini formalism f(R) theory. We check the self-consistency under scalar perturbations. By using the scalar-tensor formalism we avoid dealing with the higher-order equations. We develop the techniques to deal with the coupled system. We show that under some conditions, the scalar perturbation simply oscillates with time, which guarantees the stability. We also discuss the localization condition of the scalar mode by analyzing the effective potential and the fifth-dimensional profile of the scalar mode. We apply these results to an explicit example, and show that only some of the solutions allow for stable scalar perturbations. These stable solutions also give nonlocalizable massless mode. This is important for reproducing a viable four-dimensional gravity.
Fermion Localization and Resonances on A de Sitter Thick Brane

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0901.3543" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0901.3543">arXiv:0901.3543</a>, the simplest Yukawa coupling $\eta\bar{\Psi}\phi\chi\Psi$ was considered for a two-scalar-generated Bloch brane model. Fermionic resonances for both chiralities were obtained, and their appearance is related to branes with internal structure. Inspired on this result, we investigate the localization and resonance spectrum of fermions on a one-scalar-generated $dS$ thick brane with a class of scalar-fermion couplings $\eta\bar{\Psi}\phi^k\Psi$ with positive odd integer $k$. A set of massive fermionic resonances for both chiralities are obtained when provided large couple constant $\eta$. We find that the masses and life-times of left and right chiral resonances are almost the same, which demonstrates that it is possible to compose massive Dirac fermions from the left and right chiral resonances. The resonance with lower mass has longer life-time. For a same set of parameters, the number of resonances increases with $k$ and the life-time of the lower level resonance for larger $k$ is much longer than the one for smaller $k$.
