Functional Analysis and Its Applications

Abstract:We develop a differential-algebraic theory of the Mumford dynamical system. In the framework of this theory, we introduce the -recursion, which defines a sequence of functions given the first function of this sequence and a sequence of parameters . The general solution of the -recursion is shown to give a solution for the parametric graded Korteweg–de Vries hierarchy. We prove that all solutions of the Mumford dynamical -system are determined by the -recursion under the condition , which is equivalent to an ordinary nonlinear differential equation of order for the function . Reduction of the -system of Mumford to the Buchstaber–Enolskii–Leykin dynamical system is described explicitly, and its explicit -parameter solution in hyperelliptic Klein functions is presented.

Abstract:This is an expository article, originally written in Japanese, on a dynamical system over a non-archimedean field. The main viewpoint is from complex and non-archimedean potential theories. After quickly introducing the Berkovich projective line, the dynamical moduli space as a scheme, and the various height functions on the space of rational functions and on the dynamical moduli space, we first survey our study of Rumely's new equivariants in non-archimedean dynamics and then survey our complex geometric and arithmetic studies of the dynamical moduli space from our joint works with Thomas Gauthier and Gabriel Vigny. The latter include a precise version of McMullen's finiteness theorem on formally exact multiplier spectra and an effective solution of Silverman's conjecture on a comparison between the moduli height and the critical height (qualitatively, the Silverman-Ingram theorem). The final topic is a degeneration of complex dynamics.

Abstract:At the focus of the paper are applications of the well-known Moser transformation of the C. Neumann dynamical system. It yields us a new quadratic integrable dynamical system on $\mathbb{C}^{3n+1}$, which we call the Neumann-Moser dynamical system. We present an explicit formula of the inverse of the Moser transformation. Consequently, we obtain explicitly an invertible transformation of the Uhlenbeck-Devaney integrals of the Neumann system into the integrals of our system. One of the main results of the paper is the recurrent solutions of the Neumann-Moser system. We show that every solution of our system solves the Mumford dynamical system, and vice versa. Every solution of the Neumann-Moser system is proven to solve the stationary Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy. As a corollary, we construct explicit solutions of the Neumann-Moser system in hyperelliptic Kleinian functions.

Abstract:There are well-known analogs of the prime number theorem and Mertens' theorem for dynamical systems with hyperbolic behaviour. Here we consider the same question for the simplest non-hyperbolic algebraic systems. The asymptotic behaviour of the orbit-counting function is governed by a rotation on an associated compact group, and in simple examples we exhibit uncountably many different asymptotic growth rates for the orbit-counting function. Mertens' Theorem also holds in this setting, with an explicit rational leading coefficient obtained from arithmetic properties of the non-hyperbolic eigendirections.

Abstract:We study the dynamical Mahler measure of multivariate polynomials and present dynamical analogues of various results from the classical Mahler measure as well as examples of formulas allowing the computation of the dynamical Mahler measure in certain cases. We discuss multivariate analogues of dynamical Kronecker's Lemma and present some improvements on the result for two variables due to Carter, Lal\'in, Manes, Miller, and Mocz.

Abstract:In this paper we consider function $f(x)={x+a\over bx+c}$, (where $b\ne 0$, $c\ne ab$, $x\ne -{c\over b}$) on three fields: the set of real, $p$-adic and complex numbers. We study dynamical systems generated by this function on each field separately and give some comparison remarks. For real variable case we show that the real dynamical system of the function depends on the parameters $(a,b,c)\in \mathbb R^3$. Namely, we classify the parameters to three sets and prove that: for the parameters from first class each point, for which the trajectory is well defined, is a periodic point of $f$; for the parameters from second class any trajectory (under $f$) converges to one of fixed points (there may be up to two fixed points); for the parameters from third class any trajectory is dense in $\mathbb R$. For the $p$-adic variable we give a review of known results about dynamical systems of function $f$. Then using a recently developed method we give simple new proofs of these results and prove some new ones related to trajectories which do not converge. For the complex variables we give a review of known results.

Abstract:This paper further studies the matroid realization space of a specific deformation of the regular $n$-gon with its lines of symmetry. Recently, we obtained that these particular realization spaces are birational to the elliptic modular surfaces $\Xi_{1}(n)$ over the modular curve $X_1(n)$. Here, we focus on the peculiar cases when $n=7,8$ in more detail. We obtain concrete quartic surfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ equipped with a dominant rational self-map stemming from an operator on line arrangements, which yields K3 surfaces with a dynamical system that is semi-conjugated to the plane.

Abstract:We consider nine geometric systems: Miquel dynamics, P-nets, integrable cross-ratio maps, discrete holomorphic functions, orthogonal circle patterns, polygon recutting, circle intersection dynamics, (corrugated) pentagram maps and the short diagonal hyperplane map. Using a unified framework, for each system we prove an explicit expression for the solution as a function of the initial data; more precisely, we show that the solution is equal to the ratio of two partition functions of an oriented dimer model on an Aztec diamond whose face weights are constructed from the initial data. Then, we study the Devron property (Glick in J Geom Phys 87:161–189, 2015), which states the following: if the system starts from initial data that is singular for the backwards dynamics, this singularity is expected to reoccur after a finite number of steps of the forwards dynamics. Again, using a unified framework, we prove this Devron property for all of the above geometric systems, for different kinds of singular initial data. In doing so, we obtain new singularity results and also known ones (Glick in J Geom Phys 87:161–189, 2015; Yao in Glick's conjecture on the point of collapse of axis-aligned polygons under the pentagram maps (2014). Preprint arXiv:1410.7806). Our general method consists in proving that these nine geometric systems are all related to the Schwarzian octahedron recurrence (dSKP equation), and then to rely on the companion paper (Affolter et al. in Comb Theory 3(2), 2023), where we study this recurrence in general, prove explicit expressions and singularity results.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a complete valued field extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$ with perfect residue field. We consider $p$-adic representations of a finite product $G_{K,\Delta}=G_K^\Delta$ of the absolute Galois group $G_K$ of $K$. This product appears as the fundamental group of a product of diamonds. We develop the corresponding $p$-adic Hodge theory by constructing analogues of the classical period rings $\mathsf{B}_{\rm dR}$ and $\mathsf{B}_{\rm HT}$, and multivariable Sen theory. In particular, we associate to any $p$-adic representation $V$ of $G_{K,\Delta}$ an integrable $p$-adic differential system in several variables $\mathsf{D}_{\rm dif}(V)$. We prove that this system is trivial if and only if the representation $V$ is de Rham. Finally, we relate this differential system to the multivariable overconvergent $(\varphi,\Gamma)$-module of $V$ constructed by Pal and Zábrádi, along classical Berger's construction.

Abstract:The decimal expansion real numbers, familiar to us all, has a dramatic generalization to representation of dynamical system orbits by symbolic sequences. The natural way to associate a symbolic sequence with an orbit is to track its history through a partition. But in order to get a useful symbolism, one needs to construct a partition with special properties. In this work we develop a general theory of representing dynamical systems by symbolic systems by means of so-called Markov partitions. We apply the results to one of the more tractable examples: namely hyperbolic automorphisms of the two dimensional torus. While there are some results in higher dimensions, this area remains a fertile one for research.

Abstract:We discuss $\mathcal{D}$-modules and dynamical systems in the étale topology. We introduce the differential scheme associated to a morphism $f: X\to S$ of schemes of the same dimension. We introduce differential inertia group $I_{diff}^i$ which act trivially on the special fibers of these schemes. As an application we discuss the problem of counting points on elliptic curves which we show is connected to vanishing cycles of singularities and to closed orbits of dynamical systems.

Abstract:We characterize the symbolical dynamical systems which are topologically isomorphic to the Fibonacci dynamical system. We prove that there are infinitely many injective primitive substitutions generating a dynamical system in the Fibonacci conjugacy class. In this class there are infinitely many dynamical systems not generated by a substitution. An example is the system generated by doubling the 0's in the infinite Fibonacci word.
