Abstract:In this paper we investigate bounds for the zeros of a bicomplex polynomial using matrix method. In particular, we find analogue of Gershgorin disk theorem, Cauchy Theorem, theorem of Fujiwara, Walsh and other theorems concerning to zeros of a polynomial to bicomplex polynomials.

Abstract:Some new bounds for the extreme zeroes of Jacobi polynomials are obtained with an elementary approach. A feature of these bounds is their simple forms, which make them easy to work with. Despite their simplicity, our lower bounds for the largest zeroes of Gegenbauer polynomials are compatible with some of the best hitherto known results.

Abstract:Using a variety of matrix techniques, the problem of locating the left eigenvalues of the quaternion companion matrices are investigated in this paper. In a recent paper, Dar et al. [6], proved that the zeros of a quaternionic polynomial and the left eigenvalues of corresponding companion matrix are same. In view of this, we use various newly developed matrix techniques to prove various results concerning the location of the zeros of regular polynomials of a quaternionic variable with quaternionic coefficients, which include an extension of the result of A. L. Cauchy as well.

Abstract:The estimation of zeros of a polynomial with quaternionic coefficients has been done by many mathematicians in the recent past using various approaches. In this paper, we estimate the upper bounds for the zeros of polynomials and derive zero-free regions of some special regular functions of a quaternionic variable with restricted coefficients using the extended Schwarz's lemma and the zero sets of a regular product. The obtained results for this subclass of polynomials and regular functions produce generalizations of a number of results known in the literature on this subject.

Abstract:We estimate the number of zeros of a polynomial in $\mathbb{C}[z]$ within any small circular disc centered on the unit circle, which improves and comprehensively extends a result established by Borwein, Erd{é}lyi, and Littmann~\cite{BE1} in 2008. Furthermore, by combining this result with Euclidean geometry, we derive an upper bound on the number of zeros of such a polynomial within a region resembling a gear wheel. Additionally, we obtain a sharp upper bound on the annular discrepancy of such zeros near the unit circle. Our approach builds upon a modified version of the method described in \cite{BE1}, combined with the refined version of the best-known upper bound for angular discrepancy of zeros of polynomials.

Abstract:Polynomials with perturbed coefficients, which can be regarded as interval polynomials, are very common in the area of scientific computing due to floating point operations in a computer environment. In this paper, the zeros of interval polynomials are investigated. We show that, for a degree n interval polynomial, the number of interval zeros is at most n and the number of complex block zeros is exactly n if multiplicities are counted. The boundaries of complex block zeros on a complex plane are analyzed. Numeric algorithms to bound interval zeros and complex block zeros are presented.

Abstract:If all the zeros of $n$th degree polynomials $f(z)$ and $g(z) = \sum_{k=0}^{n}\lambda_k\binom{n}{k}z^k$ respectively lie in the cricular regions $|z|\leq r$ and $|z| \leq s|z-\sigma|$, $s>0$, then it was proved by Marden \cite[p. 86]{mm} that all the zeros of the polynomial $h(z)= \sum_{k=0}^{n}\lambda_k f^{(k)}(z) \frac{(\sigma z)^k}{k!}$ lie in the circle $|z| \leq r ~ \max(1,s)$. In this paper, we relax the condition that $f(z)$ and $g(z)$ are of the same degree and instead assume that $f(z)$ and $g(z)$ are polynomials of arbitrary degree $n$ and $m$ respectively, $m\leq n,$ and obtain a generalization of this result. As an application, we also introduce a linear operator which preserve Bernstein type polynomial inequalities.

Abstract:This paper investigates various aspects of the distribution of roots and critical points of a complex polynomial, including their variance and the relationships between their moduli using an inequality due to de Bruijn. Making use of two other inequalities-again due to de Bruijn-we derive two probabilistic results concerning upper bounds for the average moduli of the imaginary parts of zeros and those of critical points, assuming uniform distribution of the zeros over a unit disc and employing the Markov inequality. The paper also provides an explicit formula for the variance of the roots of a complex polynomial for the case when all the zeros are real. In addition, for polynomials with uniform distribution of roots over the unit disc, the expected variance of the zeros is computed. Furthermore, a bound on the variance of the critical points in terms of the variance of the zeros of a general polynomial is derived, whereby it is established that the variance of the critical points of a polynomial cannot exceed the variance of its roots. Finally, we conjecture a relation between the real parts of the zeros and the critical points of a polynomial.

Abstract:We study the zeros of exceptional Hermite polynomials associated with an even partition $\lambda$. We prove several conjectures regarding the asymptotic behavior of both the regular (real) and the exceptional (complex) zeros. The real zeros are distributed as the zeros of usual Hermite polynomials and, after contracting by a factor $\sqrt{2n}$, we prove that they follow the semi-circle law. The non-real zeros tend to the zeros of the generalized Hermite polynomial $H_{\lambda}$, provided that these zeros are simple. It was conjectured by Veselov that the zeros of generalized Hermite polynomials are always simple, except possibly for the zero at the origin, but this conjecture remains open.

Uniform enclosures for the phase and zeros of Bessel functions and their derivatives

Abstract:We prove explicit uniform two-sided bounds for the phase functions of Bessel functions and of their derivatives. As a consequence, we obtain new enclosures for the zeros of Bessel functions and their derivatives in terms of inverse values of some elementary functions. These bounds are valid, with a few exceptions, for all zeros and all Bessel functions with non-negative indices. We provide numerical evidence showing that our bounds either improve or closely match the best previously known ones.

Abstract:In this paper we consider connection formulae for orthogonal polynomials in the context of Christoffel transformations for the case where a weight function, not necessarily even, is multiplied by an even function $c_{2k}(x),k\in N_0$, to determine new lower bounds for the largest zero and upper bounds for the smallest zero of a Meixner-Pollaczek polynomial. When $p_n$ is orthogonal with respect to a weight $w(x)$ and $g_{n-m}$ is orthogonal with respect to the weight $c_{2k}(x)w(x)$, we show that $k\in\{0,1,\dots,m\}$ is a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a connection formula involving a polynomial $G_{m-1}$ of degree $(m-1)$, such that the $(n-1)$ zeros of $G_{m-1}g_{n-m}$ and the $n$ zeros of $p_n$ interlace. We analyse the new inner bounds for the extreme zeros of Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials to determine which bounds are the sharpest. We also briefly discuss bounds for the zeros of Pseudo-Jacobi polynomials.

On the geometry of zero sets of central quaternionic polynomials II

Abstract:Following the work of the first and last authors [2], we further analyze the structure of a zero set of a left ideal in the ring of central polynomials over the quaternion algebra H. We describe the "algebraic hull" of a point in H^n and prove it is a product of spheres. Using this description we give a new proof to a conjecture of Gori, Sarfatti and Vlacci. We also show that the main result of [2] does not extend to general division algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of computing zeros of a general degree bivariate Bernstein polynomial is considered. An efficient and robust algorithm is presented that takes into full account particular properties of the function considered. The algorithm works for rectangular as well as triangular domains. The outlined procedure can also be applied for the computation of the intersection of a Bezier patch and a plane as well as in the determination of an algebraic curve restricted to a compact domain. In particular, singular points of the algebraic curve are reliably detected.

Abstract:Let R be the ring of polynomials in n central variables over the real quaternion algebra H, and let I be a left ideal in R. We prove that if a polynomial p in R vanishes at all the common zeros of I in H^n with commuting coordinates, then as a slice regular quaternionic function, p vanishes at all common zeros of I in H^n. This confirms a conjecture of Gori, Sarfatti and Vlacci, who settled the two dimensional case.

Abstract:Finding an approximate region containing all the zeros of analytic polynomials is a well-studied problem. But the numb er of the zeros and regions containing all the zeros of complex-valued harmonic polynomials is relatively a fresh research area. It is well known that all the zeros of analytic trinomials are enclosed in some annular sectors that take into account the magnitude of the coefficients. Following Kennedy and Dehmer, we provide the zero inclusion regions of all the zeros of complex-valued harmonic polynomials in general, and in particular, we bound all the zeros of some families of harmonic trinomials in a certain annular region.

A new kind of cartesian product, referred to as an idempotent product, is introduced and studied. The elements of this space are linear maps of a special form.
