Abstract:We provide a class of examples of interacting particle systems on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, for $d\in\{1,2\}$, that admit a unique translation-invariant stationary measure, which is not the long-time limit of all translation-invariant starting measures, due to the existence of time-periodic orbits in the associated measure-valued dynamics. This is the first such example and shows that even in low dimensions, not every limit point of the measure-valued dynamics needs to be a time-stationary measure.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is whether there exist non - degenerate interacting particle systems in one - dimensional and two - dimensional spaces that can exhibit time - periodic behavior. Specifically, the paper aims to prove that even in low dimensions, there exist such systems that have a unique time - translation - invariant stationary measure, but this measure is not the long - time limit of all time - translation - invariant initial measures because there are time - periodic orbits in these systems. This is the first time that an example of such time - periodic behavior has been constructed in low dimensions, indicating that even in low dimensions, the limit points of measure - valued dynamics are not necessarily time - stationary measures. ### Main Contributions 1. **Constructed a new class of interacting particle systems**: The author constructed a class of interacting particle systems on \( \mathbb{Z}^d \) (\( d = 1,2 \)) that have a unique time - translation - invariant stationary measure. 2. **Proved the existence of time - periodic orbits**: Through construction, the author proved that there exist non - trivial time - periodic orbits in these systems. These orbits are not time - stationary but are periodic under the dynamics of the system. 3. **Extended existing results**: Previous similar results were only valid in three - dimensional and higher - dimensional spaces. This paper is the first to prove the existence of this time - periodic behavior in one - dimensional and two - dimensional spaces, thereby overturning the generalization of the results of Mountford and Ramirez - Varadhan in low dimensions. ### Method Overview 1. **Model of continuous state space**: First, consider a system with a continuous local state space \( \Omega_0 = S^1 \) that exhibits continuous symmetry breaking, that is, the Gibbs measure is not unique at a sufficiently low temperature. 2. **Long - range interaction**: Since the nearest - neighbor XY model has no phase transition in low dimensions, the author used a long - range version of the XY model, in which the interaction strength decays slowly enough with distance to ensure the existence of a phase transition in low dimensions. 3. **Deterministic rotation**: Apply deterministic rotation in the continuous spin system, which will cause the rotation of the extreme Gibbs measures and form periodic orbits. 4. **Discretization**: Discretize the continuous spin space \( S^1 \) into \( q \) arc segments, and each arc segment corresponds to a discrete state. In this way, the deterministic rotation can be transformed into a stochastic dynamics with a finite local state space. 5. **Construct an interacting particle system**: Through carefully designed transition rates, construct a non - degenerate interacting particle system that has a unique time - translation - invariant stationary measure and has time - periodic orbits. ### Conclusion This paper successfully constructed non - degenerate interacting particle systems with time - periodic behavior in one - dimensional and two - dimensional spaces. This result not only extends existing theories but also provides new perspectives and methods for further research on time - periodic behavior in low dimensions.
