Abstract:In this paper, we use Aleksandrov's reflection principle to prove symmetry of solutions to F(∇Sn2u+uI)=f(u,u2+|∇Snu|2), where u is the support function of a convex body, and F is a function of principal radii. As a corollary, alongside [Ivaki, arXiv:2307.06252], we provide an alternative proof of the uniqueness of solution to the isotropic Gaussian-Minkowski problem.

Abstract:The Subspace Theorem due to Schmidt (1972) is a broad generalisation of Roth's Theorem in Diophantine Approximation (1955) which, in the same way as the latter, suffers a notorious lack of effectivity. This problem is tackled from a probabilistic standpoint by determining the proportion of algebraic linear forms of bounded heights and degrees for which there exists a solution to the Subspace Inequality lying in a subspace of large height. The estimates are established for a class of height functions emerging from an analytic parametrisation of the projective space. They are pertinent in the regime where the heights of the algebraic quantities are larger than those of the rational solutions to the inequality under consideration, and are valid for approximation functions more general than the power functions intervening in the original Subspace Theorem. These estimates are further refined in the case of Roth's Theorem so as to yield a Khintchin-type density version of the so-called Waldschmidt conjecture (which is known to fail pointwise). This answers a question raised by Beresnevich, Bernik and Dodson (2009).

Abstract:We prove the inhomogeneous generalization of the Duffin-Schaeffer conjecture in dimension $m \geq 3$. That is, given $\mathbf{y}\in \mathbb{R}^m$ and $\psi:\mathbb{N}\to\mathbb{R}_{\geq 0}$ such that $\sum (\varphi(q)\psi(q)/q)^m = \infty$, we show that for almost every $\mathbf{x} \in\mathbb{R}^m$ there are infinitely many rational vectors $\mathbf{a}/q$ such that $\vert q\mathbf{x} - \mathbf{a} - \mathbf{y}\vert<\psi(q)$ and such that each component of $\mathbf{a}$ is coprime to $q$. This is an inhomogeneous extension of a homogeneous conjecture of Sprindžuk which was itself proved in 1990 by Pollington and Vaughan. In fact, our main result generalizes Pollington-Vaughan not only to the inhomogeneous case, but also to the setting of moving targets, where the inhomogeneous parameter $\mathbf{y}$ is free to vary with $q$. In contrast, we show by an explicit construction that the (1-dimensional) inhomogeneous Duffin-Schaeffer conjecture fails to hold with a moving target, implying that any successful attack on the one-dimensional problem must use the fact that the inhomogeneous parameter is constant. We also introduce new questions regarding moving targets.

Some convergence results and linear convergence results are established, which extend the corresponding ones from Hilbert spaces to Hadamrd manifolds. Guarding a Subspace in High-Dimensional Space With Two Defenders and One Attacker

Abstract:This article considers a subspace guarding game in high-dimensional space which consists of a play subspace and a target subspace. Two faster defenders as a team cooperate to protect the target subspace by capturing an attacker which strives to enter the target subspace from the play subspace without being captured. A closed-form solution is provided from the perspectives of kind and degree. Contributions of the work include the use of the attack subspace (AS) method to construct the barrier, by which the game winner can be perfectly predicted before the game starts. In addition to this inclusion, with the priori information about the game result, a critical payoff function is designed when the defenders can win the game. Then, the optimal strategy for each player is explicitly reformulated as a saddle-point equilibrium. Finally, we apply these theoretical results to two half-space and half-plane guarding games in 3-D space and 2-D plane, respectively. Since the entire achieved developments are analytical, they require a little memory without the computational burden and allow for real-time updates, beyond the capacity of the traditional Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs method. It is worth noting that this is the first time in the current work to consider the target guarding games for arbitrary high-dimensional space and in a fully analytical form.

Abstract:We give a direct proof of a result due to Karasev (2008), Karasev-Matschke (2014) and Schnider-Soberón (2023). Given $m+1$ Borel probability measures on the space of affine hyperplanes in a real vector space $V$ of dimension $m+1$, there exist a line $L$ through the origin in $V$ and a point $v\in L$ such that at least half of the hyperplanes, as counted by any of the measures, meet or are parallel to each of the two closed rays in $L$ meeting at $v$.

Abstract:For a {bounded} non-negative self-adjoint operator acting in a complex, infinite-dimensional, separable Hilbert space H and possessing a dense range R we propose a new approach to characterisation of phenomenon concerning the existence of subspaces M\subset H such that M\capR=M^\perp\capR=\{0\}. We show how the existence of such subspaces leads to various {pathological} properties of {unbounded} self-adjoint operators related to von Neumann theorems \cite{Neumann}--\cite{Neumann2}. We revise the von Neumann-Van Daele-Schmüdgen assertions \cite{Neumann}, \cite{Daele}, \cite{schmud} to refine them. We also develop {a new systematic approach, which allows to construct for any {unbounded} densely defined symmetric/self-adjoint operator T infinitely many pairs of its closed densely defined restrictions T_k\subset T such that \dom(T^* T_{k})=\{0\} (\Rightarrow \dom T_{k}^2=\{0\}$) k=1,2 and \dom T_1\cap\dom T_2=\{0\}, \dom T_1\dot+\dom T_2=\dom T.

Abstract:Affine subspaces are translates of linear subspaces, and hyperplanes are well-known instances of affine subspaces. In basic linear algebra, one encounters the explicit formula for projecting onto a hyperplane. An interesting—and relevant for applications—question is whether or not there is a formula for projecting onto the intersection of two hyperplanes. The answer turns out to be yes, as demonstrated recently by Behling, Bello-Cruz, and Santos, by López, by Needell and Ward, and by Ouyang. Most of these authors also provided formulas for projecting onto the intersection of an affine subspace and a hyperplane. In this note, we present an alternative approach which has the advantage of being more explicit and more elementary. Our results also provide useful information in the case when the two sets don't intersect. Luckily, the material is fully accessible to readers with a basic background in linear algebra and analysis. Finally, we demonstrate the computational efficiency of our formula when applied to an image reconstruction problem arising in Computed Tomography, and we also present a new formula for the projection onto the set of generalized bistochastic matrices with a moment constraint.

Abstract:Schubert varieties of hyperplane arrangements, also known as matroid Schubert varieties, play an essential role in the proof of the Dowling-Wilson conjecture and in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for matroids. We study these varieties as equivariant compactifications of affine spaces, and give necessary and sufficient conditions to characterize them. We also generalize the theory to include partial compactifications and morphisms between them. Our results resemble the correspondence between toric varieties and polyhedral fans.

Abstract:We investigate the Cauchy–Szegő projection for quaternionic Siegel upper half space to obtain the pointwise (higher order) regularity estimates for Cauchy–Szegő kernel and prove that the Cauchy–Szegő kernel is nonzero everywhere, which further yields a non-degenerated pointwise lower bound. As applications, we prove the uniform boundedness of Cauchy–Szegő projection on every atom on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, which is used to give an atomic decomposition of regular Hardy space H p on quaternionic Siegel upper half space for 2 3 < p ≤ 1 . Moreover, we establish the characterisation of singular values of the commutator of Cauchy–Szegő projection based on the kernel estimates. The quaternionic structure (lack of commutativity) is encoded in the symmetry groups of regular functions and the associated partial differential equations.

Abstract:We prove some novel multi-parameter point-line incidence estimates in vector spaces over finite fields. While these could be seen as special cases of higher-dimensional incidence results, they outperform their more general counterparts in those contexts. We go on to present a number of applications to illustrate their use in combinatorial problems from geometry and number theory.

Abstract:Abstract Let G be a Lie group, let $\Gamma \subset G$ be a discrete subgroup, let $X=G/\Gamma $ and let f be an affine map from X to itself. We give conditions on a submanifold Z of X that guarantee that the set of points $x\in X$ with f -trajectories avoiding Z is hyperplane absolute winning (a property which implies full Hausdorff dimension and is stable under countable intersections). A similar result is proved for one-parameter actions on X . This has applications in constructing exceptional geodesics on locally symmetric spaces and in non-density of the set of values of certain functions at integer points.

Moving plane method for varifolds and applications

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a version of the moving plane method that applies to potentially quite singular hypersurfaces, generalizing the classical moving plane method for smooth hypersurfaces. Loosely speaking, our version for varifolds shows that smoothness and symmetry at infinity (respectively at the boundary) can be promoted to smoothness and symmetry in the interior. The key feature, in contrast with the classical formulation of the moving plane principle, is that smoothness is a conclusion rather than an assumption. We implement our moving plane method in the setting of compact varifolds with smooth boundary and in the setting of complete varifolds. A key ingredient is a Hopf lemma for stationary and CMC-varifolds. Our Hopf lemma provides a new tool to establish smoothness of varifolds, and works in arbitrary dimensions and without any stability assumptions. As applications of our new moving plane method, we prove varifold uniqueness results for the catenoid, spherical caps, and Delaunay surfaces that are inspired by classical uniqueness results by Schoen, Alexandrov, Meeks and Korevaar-Kusner-Solomon. We also prove a varifold version of Alexandrov's Theorem for compact CMC-varifolds in hyperbolic space.

Abstract:We extend the work of An, Guan and Kleinbock on bounded orbits of diagonalizable flows on $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{R})/\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{Z})$ to $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{C})/\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{K}})$, where $\mathbb{K}$ is an imaginary quadratic field. To achieve this, we first prove a complex analogue of Minkowski's Linear Forms Theorem. We then set up an appropriate Schmidt game in $\mathbb{C}^3$ such that bounded orbits correspond to a hyperplane-absolute-winning set consisting of certain vectors in $\mathbb{C}^3$ relative to an approximation by imaginary quadratic rationals in $\mathbb{K}$.
