Abstract:Let $p_{\textrm{dsd}} (n)$ be the number of partitions of $n$ into distinct squarefree divisors of $n$. In this note, we find a lower bound for $p_{\textrm{dsd}} (n)$, as well as a sequence of $n$ for which $p_{\textrm{dsd}} (n)$ is unusually large.

Abstract:Let d⩾4 and c∈(−d,d) be relatively prime integers. We show that for any sufficiently large integer n (in particular n>24310 suffices for 4⩽d⩽36), the smallest prime p≡c(modd) with p⩾(2dn−c)/(d−1) is the least positive integer m with 2r(d)k(dk−c) (k=1,…,n) pairwise distinct modulo m, where r(d) is the radical of d. We also conjecture that for any integer n>4 the least positive integer m such that |{k(k−1)/2modm:k=1,…,n}|=|{k(k−1)/2modm+2:k=1,…,n}|=n is the least prime p⩾2n−1 with p+2 also prime.
A note on odd partition numbers

Abstract:Ramanujan's celebrated partition congruences modulo $\ell\in \{5, 7, 11\}$ assert that $$ p(\ell n+\delta_{\ell})\equiv 0\pmod{\ell}, $$ where $0<\delta_{\ell}<\ell$ satisfies $24\delta_{\ell}\equiv 1\pmod{\ell}.$ By proving Subbarao's Conjecture, Radu showed that there are no such congruences when it comes to parity. There are infinitely many odd (resp. even) partition numbers in every arithmetic progression. For primes $\ell \geq 5,$ we give a new proof of the conclusion that there are infinitely many $m$ for which $p(\ell m+\delta_{\ell})$ is odd. This proof uses a generalization, due to the second author and Ramsey, of a result of Mazur in his classic paper on the Eisenstein ideal. We also refine a classical criterion of Sturm for modular form congruences, which allows us to show that the smallest such $m$ satisfies $m<(\ell^2-1)/24,$ representing a significant improvement to the previous bound.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{D}_{n} \subset \mathbb{N}$ be the set of the $\tau(n)$ divisors of $n$. We generalize a method developed by Erd\H os, Tenenbaum and de la Bretèche for the study of the set $\mathcal{D}_{n}$. In particular, using these ideas, we establish that $$ |\{(d_{1},d_{2},d_{3}) \in \mathcal{D}_{n}^3 : d_{1}+d_{2}=d_{3}\}| \le \tau(n)^{2-\delta} $$ with $\delta=0.045072$.

Bounds for the number of multidimensional partitions

Abstract:We obtain estimates for the number $p_d(n)$ of $(d-1)$-dimensional integer partitions of a number $n$. It is known that the two-sided inequality $C_1(d)n^{1-1/d}<\log p_d(n)< C_2(d)n^{1-1/d}$ is always true and that $C_1(d)>1$ whenever $\log n> 3d$. However, establishing the $``$right$"$ dependence of $C_2$ on $d$ remained an open problem. We show that if $d$ is sufficiently small with respect to $n$, then $C_2$ does not depend on $d$, which means that $\log p_d(n)$ is up to an absolute constant equal to $n^{1-1/d}$. Besides, we provide estimates of $p_d(n)$ for different ranges of $d$ in terms of $n$, which give the asymptotics of $\log p_d(n)$ in each case.

Enumeration modulo 4 of overpartitions wherein only even parts can be overlined

Abstract:In 2014, as part of a larger study of overpartitions with restrictions of the overlined parts based on residue classes, Munagi and Sellers defined $d_2(n)$ as the number of overpartitions of weight $n$ wherein only even parts can be overlined. As part of that work, they used a generating function approach to prove a parity characterization for $d_2(n)$. In this note, we give a combinatorial proof of their result and extend it to a modulus 4 characterization; we provide both generating function and combinatorial proofs of this stronger result. The combinatorial arguments incorporate classical involutions of Franklin, Glaisher, and Sylvester, along with a recent involution of van Leeuwen and methods new with this work.

Abstract:Let $P_{d}(n)$ denote the number of $n \times \ldots \times n$ $d$-dimensional partitions with entries from $\left\{0,1,\ldots,n\right\}$. Building upon the works of Balogh-Treglown-Wagner and Noel-Scott-Sudakov, we show that when $d \to \infty$, $$P_{d}(n) = 2^{(1+o_{d}(1)) \sqrt{\frac{6}{(d+1)\pi}} \cdot n^{d}}$$ holds for all $n \geq 1$. This makes progress towards a conjecture of Moshkovitz-Shapira [{\it{Adv. in Math.}} 262 (2014), 1107--1129]. Via the main result of Moshkovitz and Shapira, our estimate also determines asymptotically a Ramsey theoretic parameter related to Erdős-Szekeres-type functions, thus solving a problem of Fox, Pach, Sudakov, and Suk [{\it{Proc. Lond. Math. Soc.}} 105 (2012), 953--982]. Our main result is a new supersaturation theorem for antichains in $[n]^{d}$, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Let D = (D_n)_{n\ge1} be an elliptic divisibility sequence. We study the set S(D) of indices n satisfying n | D_n. In particular, given an index n in S(D), we explain how to construct elements nd in S(D), where d is either a prime divisor of D_n, or d is the product of the primes in an aliquot cycle for D. We also give bounds for the exceptional indices that are not constructed in this way.

Abstract:Let $ped(n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ wherein even parts are distinct (and odd parts are unrestricted). We show infinite families of congruences for $ped(n)$ modulo $8$. We also examine the behavior of $ped_{-2}(n)$ modulo $8$ in detail where $ped_{-2}(n)$ denotes the number of bipartitions of $n$ with even parts distinct. As a result, we find infinite families of congruences for $ped_{2}(n)$ modulo $8$.

Abstract:We show that there are infinitely many primes $p$ such that $p-1$ is divisible by a square $d^2 \geq p^\theta$ for $\theta=1/2+1/2000.$ This improves the work of Matomäki (2009) who obtained the result for $\theta=1/2-\varepsilon$ (with the added constraint that $d$ is also a prime), which improved the result of Baier and Zhao (2006) with $\theta=4/9-\varepsilon.$ Similarly as in the work of Matomäki, we apply Harman's sieve method to detect primes $p \equiv 1 \, (d^2)$. To break the $\theta=1/2$ barrier we prove a new bilinear equidistribution estimate modulo smooth square moduli $d^2$ by using a similar argument as Zhang (2014) used to obtain equidistribution beyond the Bombieri-Vinogradov range for primes with respect to smooth moduli. To optimize the argument we incorporate technical refinements from the Polymath project (2014). Since the moduli are squares, the method produces complete exponential sums modulo squares of primes which are estimated using the results of Cochrane and Zheng (2000).

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number, and let $S$ be the numerical semigroup generated by the prime numbers not less than $p$. We compare the orders of magnitude of some invariants of $S$ with each other, e. g., the biggest atom $u$ of $S$ with $p$ itself: By Harald Helfgott (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1312.7748" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1312.7748">arXiv:1312.7748</a> [math.NT]), every odd integer $N$ greater than five can be written as the sum of three prime numbers. There is numerical evidence suggesting that the summands of $N$ always can be chosen between $\frac N6$ and $\frac N2$. This would imply that $u$ is less than $6p$.

Abstract:Motivated by a question of V. Bergelson and F. K. Richter (2017), we obtain asymptotic formulas for the number of relatively prime tuples composed of positive integers $n\le N$ and integer parts of polynomials evaluated at $n$. The error terms in our formulas are of various strengths depending on the Diophantine properties of the leading coefficients of these polynomials.

The main purpose of this paper is to prove that (under natural conditions) every sufficiently large integer can be expressed as the sum of three D.H. Lehmer numbers.
On the $k$th smallest part of a partition into distinct parts

Abstract:A classic theorem of Uchimura states that the difference between the sum of the smallest parts of the partitions of $n$ into an odd number of distinct parts and the corresponding sum for an even number of distinct parts is equal to the number of divisors of $n$. In this article, we initiate the study of the $k$th smallest part of a partition $\pi$ into distinct parts of any integer $n$, namely $s_k(\pi)$. Using $s_k(\pi)$, we generalize the above result for the $k$th smallest parts of partitions for any positive integer $k$ and show its connection with divisor functions for general $k$ and derive interesting special cases. We also study weighted partitions involving $s_k(\pi)$ with another parameter $z$, which helps us obtain several new combinatorial and analytical results. Finally, we prove sum-of-tails identities associated with the weighted partition function involving $s_k(\pi)$.

Abstract:The denominators $d_n$ of the harmonic number $1+\frac12+\frac13+\cdots+\frac1n$ do not increase monotonically with~$n$. It is conjectured that $d_n=D_n={\rm LCM}(1,2,\ldots,n)$ infinitely often. For an odd prime $p$, the set $\{n:pd_n|D_n\}$ has a harmonic density. Moreover, for $2<p_1<p_2<\cdots<p_k$, with $\log p_1/\log p_i$ ($1\le i\le k$) being linearly independent, there exists $n$ such that $p_1p_2\cdots p_kd_n|D_n$.

Abstract:E394 in the Enestrom index. Translated from the Latin original, "De partitione numerorum in partes tam numero quam specie datas" (1768). Euler finds a lot of recurrence formulas for the number of partitions of $N$ into $n$ parts from some set like 1 to 6 (numbers on the sides of a die). He starts the paper talking about how many ways a number $N$ can be formed by throwing $n$ dice. There do not seem to be any new results or ideas here that weren't in "Observationes analyticae variae de combinationibus", E158 and "De partitione numerorum", E191. In this paper Euler just does a lot of special cases. My impression is that Euler is trying to make his theory of partitions more approachable,. Also, maybe for his own benefit he wants to say it all again in different words, to make it clear.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{P}(n)$ be the set of partitions of the positive integer $n$. For $\alpha=(\alpha_1,...,\alpha_t) \in \mathcal{P}(n)$ define the diagonal sequence $\delta(\alpha)=(d_k(\alpha))_{k \geq 1}$ via $ d_k(\alpha) = \big\lvert \{ i \, \rvert \, 1 \leq i \leq k \mbox{ and } \alpha_i + i- 1\geq k \} \big\rvert.$ We show that the set of all partitions in $\mathcal{P}(n)$ with the same diagonal sequence is a partially ordered set under majorization with unique maximal and minimal elements and we give an explicit formula for the number of partitions with the same diagonal sequence.

Abstract:We establish quantitative lower bounds for the number of primes $p$ such that, for an odd integer $b$, $p - b \leq N$ and $p - b = 2^{k(N) + m} P_k \quad \text{for some } m \geq 0$, where $P_k$ is a product of at most $k$ primes other than 2, for $k \geq 2$. These results hold under various upper bounds for $2^{k(N)}$ depending on $k $, specifically when $2^{k(N)} \leq N^a$ for different values of $a$. Our approach combines techniques from Chen's theorem, weighted sieves, and Selberg's lower bound sieve, as well as results on primes in arithmetic progressions with large power factor moduli.

Abstract:A positive integer n is called a covering number if there are some distinct divisors n_1,...,n_k of n greater than one and some integers a_1,...,a_k such that Z is the union of the residue classes a_1(mod n_1),...,a_k(mod n_k). A covering number is said to be primitive if none of its proper divisors is a covering number. In this paper we give some sufficient conditions for n to be a (primitive) covering number; in particular, we show that for any r=2,3,... there are infinitely many primitive covering numbers having exactly r distinct prime divisors. In 1980 P. Erdos asked whether there are infinitely many positive integers n such that among the subsets of D_n={d>1: d|n} only D_n can be the set of all the moduli in a cover of Z with distinct moduli; we answer this question affirmatively. We also conjecture that any primitive covering number must have a prime factorization p_1^{alpha_1}...p_r^{alpha_r} (with p_1,...,p_r in a suitable order) which satisfies $\prod_{0<t<s}(alpha_t+1)\ge p_s-1$ for each s=1,...,r, with strict inequality when s=r.
