On scalable $K$-frames and a version of Lax-Milgram theorem

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove a theorem by a little modification on the Lax-Milgram theorem. Then, using $K$-frames, we obtain lower and upper bounds for the results obtained from this theorem. Also, we present some methods for the characterization of scalable $K$-frames.

Abstract:In this paper, the Parseval K - g -frames are constructed from a given K - g -frame by scaling the elements of the K - g -frame with the help of diagonal operators, and these frames are named scalable K - g -frames. Also, we prove some properties of scalable K - g -frames and construct new scalable K - g -frames from a given K - g -frame. The necessary and sufficient conditions for a K - g -frame to be scalable are given. Further, equivalent conditions for the scalability of K - g -frames and the K -frames induced by K - g -frames are obtained. Finally, it is shown that the direct sum of two scalable K - g -frames is again a scalable K - g -frame for some suitable bounded linear operator K .

Abstract:We study the problem of determining whether a given frame is scalable, and when it is, understanding the set of all possible scalings. We show that for most frames this is a relatively simple task in that the frame is either not scalable or is scalable in a unique way, and to find this scaling we just have to solve a linear system. We also provide some insight into the set of all scalings when there is not a unique scaling. In particular, we show that this set is a convex polytope whose vertices correspond to minimal scalings.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the scalability of a given frame in $\mathbb{R}^n$ by using graphs. For each frame $\phi$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$, we associate a simple undirected graph $G(\phi)$ and use it to verify the scalability of $\phi$. We provide some necessary conditions to test the scalability of a given frame. Finally, we study the scalability of some special classes of frames by using graphs.

Abstract:This paper discusses reconstruction of a signal from undersampled data in the situation that the signal is sparse or approximately sparse in terms of a (possibly) highly overcomplete and coherent tight frame D via the l1-analysis optimization problem. Some new sufficient conditions on the D -restricted isometry property are given to guarantee stable recovery of signals which are nearly sparse in terms of D, from undersampled data with minimal l1-norm of transform coefficients. One of the main results of this paper shows that if the D-restricted isometry constant δs of the measurement matrix A satisfies δs <; 0.307 , then signals which are approximately s-sparse in terms of D are guaranteed to be stably recovered via the l1-analysis optimization problem. We point out that with the lemmas and the proof techniques developed in this paper, most of the sufficient conditions on the standard restricted isometry property for stable recovery of nearly sparse signals via standard l1 -minimization, can be similarly extended to the general case of the D-restricted isometry property for stable recovery of signals that are nearly sparse in terms of D via the l1-analysis optimization problem, yielding weaker conditions than previously available in the literature.

Abstract:A (unit norm) frame is scalable if its vectors can be rescaled so as to result into a tight frame. Tight frames can be considered optimally conditioned because the condition number of their frame operators is unity. In this paper we reformulate the scalability problem as a convex optimization question. In particular, we present examples of various formulations of the problem along with numerical results obtained by using our methods on randomly generated frames.

Abstract:Let $\{\frak{M} _k \} _{ k \in \mathbb{Z}} $ be a sequence of closed subspaces of Hilbert space $H$, and let $\{\Theta_k\}_{k \in \mathbb{Z}}$ be a sequence of linear operators from $H$ into $\frak{M}_k$, $k \in \mathbb{Z}$. In the definition of fusion frames, we replace the orthogonal projections on $\frak{M} _k$ by $\Theta_k$ and find a slight generalization of fusion frames. In the case where, $\Theta_k$ is self-adjoint and $\Theta_k(\frak{M} _k)= \frak{M} _k$ for all $k \in \mathbb{Z}$, we show that if a $g-$fusion frame $\{(\frak{M} _k, \Theta_k)\}_{k \in \mathbb{Z}}$ is represented via a linear operator $T$ on $\hbox{span} \{\frak{M} _k\}_{ k \in \mathbb{Z}}$, then $T$ is bounded; moreover, if $\{(\frak{M} _k, \Theta_k)\}_{k \in \mathbb{Z}}$ is a tight $g-$fusion frame, then $T$ is not invertible. We also study the perturbation and the stability of these fusion frames. Finally, we give some examples to show the validity of the results.

In this paper we study the relationship between $K$-frames for $H_1$ and $L$-frames for $H_2$ and $K\oplus L$-frames for $H_1\oplus H_2$. Abstract:Scalable frames in separable Hilbert spaces have been recently introduced by Kutyniok et al. to modify a general frame and to generate a Parseval frame by rescaling frame vectors. The main framework proposed in this paper is based on the redundancy of frame elements and is used as input for classification. This method leads to a complete characterization of scalable frames in and . In addition, we introduce all possible choices for the scale coefficients of a given scalable frame. Finally, we discuss the scalability of duals frames. We divide the set of all scalable dual frames of a given frame into two disjoint subsets, containing and not containing an orthogonal basis. In particular, we prove that both of them are non-empty.

Abstract:The relationship between the frame bounds of frames (Gabor) for the space $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ with several generators from the Weyl-Heisenberg group and the scalars linked to the sum of frames is examined in this paper. We give sufficient conditions for the finite sum of frames of the space $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ from the Weyl-Heisenberg group, with explicit frame bounds, in terms of frame bounds and scalars involved in the finite sum of frames, to be a frame for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. It is shown that if a series of square roots of upper frame bounds of countably infinite frames from the Weyl-Heisenberg group is convergent and some lower frame bound majorizes the sum of all other frame bounds, then the infinite sum of frames for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ space turns out to be a frame for the space $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the sum of frames from the Weyl-Heisenberg group and its dual frame always constitutes a frame. We provide sufficient conditions for the sum of images of frames under bounded linear operators acting on $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ in terms of lower bounds of their Hilbert adjoint operator to be a frame. The finite sum of frames where frames are perturbed by bounded sequences of scalars is also discussed. As an application of the results, we show that the frame bounds of sums of frames can increase the rate of approximation in the frame algorithm. Our results are true for all types of frames.

Abstract:In frame theory literature, there are several generalizations of frame, K-fusion frame presents a flavour of one such generalization, basically it is an intertwined replica of K-frame and fusion frame. K-fusion frames come naturally, having significant applications, when one needs to reconstruct functions (signals) from a large data in the range of a bounded linear operator. Motivated by the concept of weaving frames, in this paper we study wovenness of K-fusion frames. This article presents characterizations of weaving K-fusion frames. Paley-Wiener type perturbations and conditions on erasure of frame components are discussed to examine wovenness.

Abstract:Given a relatively compact $\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}$ of Lebesgue measure $|\Omega|$ and $\varepsilon > 0$, we show the existence of a set $\Lambda \subseteq \mathbb{R}$ of uniform density $D (\Lambda) \leq (1+\varepsilon) |\Omega|$ such that the exponential system $\{ \exp(2\pi i \lambda \cdot) \mathbf{1}_{\Omega}: \lambda \in \Lambda \}$ is a frame for $L^2 (\Omega)$ with frame bounds $A |\Omega|, B |\Omega|$ for constants $A,B$ only depending on $\varepsilon$. This solves a problem on the frame bounds of an exponential frame near the critical density posed by Nitzan, Olevskii and Ulanovskii. We also prove an extension to locally compact abelian groups, which improves a result by Agora, Antezana and Cabrelli by providing frame bounds involving the spectrum.

Abstract:This paper explores the concept of $K$-$g$-frames in locally $C^*$-algebras, which are shown to be more general than $g$-frames. The authors first introduce the notion of a $g$-orthonormal basis and utilize it to define the $g$-operator, a crucial element for studying the construction of $K$-$g$-frames in locally $C^*$-algebras. The paper establishes a relationship between $g$-frames and $K$-$g$-frames and introduces the $K$-dual $g$-frame along with its properties. Finally, the authors characterize $K$-$g$-frames through two other related concepts.

Abstract:Frame theory has been a popular subject in the design of structured signals and codes in recent years, with applications ranging from the design of measurement matrices in compressive sensing, to spherical codes for data compression and data transmission, to spacetime codes for MIMO communications, and to measurement operators in quantum sensing. High-performance codes usually arise from designing frames whose elements have mutually low coherence. Building off the original "group frame" design of Slepian which has since been elaborated in the works of Vale and Waldron, we present several new frame constructions based on cyclic and generalized dihedral groups. Slepian's original construction was based on the premise that group structure allows one to reduce the number of distinct inner pairwise inner products in a frame with $n$ elements from $\frac{n(n-1)}{2}$ to $n-1$. All of our constructions further utilize the group structure to produce tight frames with even fewer distinct inner product values between the frame elements. When $n$ is prime, for example, we use cyclic groups to construct $m$-dimensional frame vectors with at most $\frac{n-1}{m}$ distinct inner products. We use this behavior to bound the coherence of our frames via arguments based on the frame potential, and derive even tighter bounds from combinatorial and algebraic arguments using the group structure alone. In certain cases, we recover well-known Welch bound achieving frames. In cases where the Welch bound has not been achieved, and is not known to be achievable, we obtain frames with close to Welch bound performance.

Abstract:In this paper, we study upper bounds on the minimum length of frameproof codes introduced by Boneh and Shaw to protect copyrighted materials. A $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof code of length $t$ is a $t \times n$ matrix having entries in $\{0,1,\ldots, q-1\}$ and with the property that for any column $\mathbf{c}$ and any other $k$ columns, there exists a row where the symbols of the $k$ columns are all different from the corresponding symbol (in the same row) of the column $\mathbf{c}$. In this paper, we show the existence of $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof codes of length $t = O(\frac{k^2}{q} \log n)$ for $q \leq k$, using the Lovász Local Lemma, and of length $t = O(\frac{k}{\log(q/k)}\log(n/k))$ for $q > k$ using the expurgation method. Remarkably, for the practical case of $q \leq k$ our findings give codes whose length almost matches the lower bound $\Omega(\frac{k^2}{q\log k} \log n)$ on the length of any $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof code and, more importantly, allow us to derive an algorithm of complexity $O(t n^2)$ for the construction of such codes.

Abstract:K-frames, a new generalization of frames, were recently considered by L. Gavruta in connection with atomic systems and some problems arising in sampling theory. Also, fusion frames are an important generalization of frames, applied in a variety of applications. In the present paper, we introduce the notion of K-fusion frames in Hilbert spaces and obtain several approaches for identifying of $K$-fusion frames. The main purpose is to reconstruct the elements from the range of the bounded operator $K$ on a Hilbert space H by using a family of closed subspaces in H. This work will be useful in some problems in sampling theory which are processed by fusion frames. For this end, we present some descriptions for duality of K-fusion frames and also resolution of the operator K to provide simple and concrete constructions of duals of K-fusion frames. Finally, we survey the robustness of K-fusion frames under some perturbations.

Abstract:Frames are the most natural generalization of orthonormal bases that allow the inclusion of redundant systems. In this article, we introduce the concept of frames generated by graphs in finite-dimensional spaces and study their properties. Let $G$ be a simple graph of $n$ vertices with Laplacian matrix $L$. We define the notions of $G(n,k)$-frames and $L_G(n,k)$-frames associated with the graph $G$. We obtain the family of dual frames of $L_G(n,k)$-frames and $G(n,k)$-frames. It is shown that non-regular graphs cannot generate tight frames. Then we establish a characterization of tight $G(n,k)$-frames in terms of the adjacency spectra of regular graphs. Besides, we provide a frame theoretic proof of an existing graph property. Finally, we show that one can use complete graphs to generate tight frames.

Abstract:Canonicalization provides an architecture-agnostic method for enforcing equivariance, with generalizations such as frame-averaging recently gaining prominence as a lightweight and flexible alternative to equivariant architectures. Recent works have found an empirical benefit to using probabilistic frames instead, which learn weighted distributions over group elements. In this work, we provide strong theoretical justification for this phenomenon: for commonly-used groups, there is no efficiently computable choice of frame that preserves continuity of the function being averaged. In other words, unweighted frame-averaging can turn a smooth, non-symmetric function into a discontinuous, symmetric function. To address this fundamental robustness problem, we formally define and construct \emph{weighted} frames, which provably preserve continuity, and demonstrate their utility by constructing efficient and continuous weighted frames for the actions of $SO(2)$, $SO(3)$, and $S_n$ on point clouds.
