Abstract:In this work we introduce new combinatorial objects called $d$--fold partition diamonds, which generalize both the classical partition function and the partition diamonds of Andrews, Paule and Riese, and we set $r_d(n)$ to be their counting function. We also consider the Schmidt type $d$--fold partition diamonds, which have counting function $s_d(n).$ Using partition analysis, we then find the generating function for both, and connect the generating functions $\sum_{n= 0}^\infty s_d(n)q^n$ to Eulerian polynomials. This allows us to develop elementary proofs of infinitely many Ramanujan--like congruences satisfied by $s_d(n)$ for various values of $d$, including the following family: for all $d\geq 1$ and all $n\geq 0,$ $s_d(2n+1) \equiv 0 \pmod{2^d}.$

Abstract:Using elementary methods, we prove new formulas for $\operatorname{pp}(n)$, the number of plane partitions of $n$, $\operatorname{pp}_r(n)$, the number of plane partitions of $n$ with at most $r$ rows, $\operatorname{pp}^s(n)$, the number of strict plane partitions of $n$ and $\operatorname{pp}^{so}(n)$, the number of symmetric plane partitions of $n$. Also, we give new formulas for $P_r(n)$, the number of $r$-component multipartitions of $n$.

Abstract:Recently, Andrews and Paule introduced a partition function PDN 1( N ) which counts the number of partition diamonds with copies of n where summing the parts at the links gives N . They also established the generating function of PDN 1( n ) and proved congruences modulo 5,7,25,49 for PDN 1( n ). At the end of their paper, Andrews and Paule asked for the existence of other types of congruence relations for PDN 1( n ). Motivated by their work, we prove some new congruences modulo 125 and 625 for PDN 1( n ) by using some identities due to Chern and Tang. Abstract:In 2021 da Silva, Hirschhorn, and Sellers studied a wide variety of congruences for the $k$-elongated plane partition function $d_k(n)$ by various primes. They also conjectured the existence of an infinite congruence family modulo arbitrarily high powers of 2 for the function $d_7(n)$. We prove that such a congruence family exists -- indeed, for powers of 8. The proof utilizes only classical methods, i.e., integer polynomial manipulations in a single function, in contrast to all other known infinite congruence families for $d_k(n)$ which require more modern methods to prove.

Abstract:In 2007, Andrews and Paule introduced the family of functions $\Delta_k(n)$, which enumerate the number of broken $k$-diamond partitions for a fixed positive integer $k$. In 2013, Radu and Sellers completely characterized the parity of $\Delta_3(8n + r)$ for some $r$ and gave a conjecture on congruences modulo powers of 2 for broken 3-diamond partitions. We use an unconventional $U$-sequence to solve the revised conjecture proposed by Radu and Sellers.

The Localization Method Applied to $k$-Elongated Plane Partitions and Divisibility by 5

Abstract:The enumeration $d_k(n)$ of $k$-elongated plane partition diamonds has emerged as a generalization of the classical integer partition function $p(n)$. We have discovered an infinite congruence family for $d_5(n)$ modulo powers of 5. Classical methods cannot be used to prove this family of congruences. Indeed, the proof employs the recently developed localization method, and utilizes a striking internal algebraic structure which has not yet been seen in the proof of any congruence family. We believe that this discovery poses important implications on future work in partition congruences.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf a=(a_1,\ldots,a_r)$ be a sequence of positive integers and $k\geq 2$ an integer. We study $p_{k,\mathbf a}(n)$, the restricted $k$-multipartition function associated to $\mathbf a$ and $k$. We prove new formulas for $p_{k,\mathbf a}(n)$, its waves $W_j(n,k,\mathbf a)$'s and its polynomial part $P_{k,\mathbf a}(n)$. Also, we give a lower bound for the density of the set $\{n\geq 0\;:\;p_{k,\mathbf a}(n)\not\equiv 0(\bmod\;m)\}$, where $m\geq 2$ is an integer.

In this paper, we will prove that the broken k -diamond partition function satisfies the Laguerre inequality of order 2 and the determinantal inequality of order 3 for or 2. Moreover, we have conjectured the thresholds for the Laguerre inequalities of order m and the positivity of m -order determinants for for the broken k -diamond partition function when or 2.

A bijection for tuples of commuting permutations and a log-concavity conjecture

Abstract:Let $A(\ell,n,k)$ denote the number of $\ell$-tuples of commuting permutations of $n$ elements whose permutation action results in exactly $k$ orbits or connected components. We provide a new proof of an explicit formula for $A(\ell,n,k)$ which is essentially due to Bryan and Fulman, in their work on orbifold higher equivariant Euler characteristics. Our proof is self-contained, elementary, and relies on the construction of an explicit bijection, in order to perform the $\ell+1\rightarrow \ell$ reduction. We also investigate a conjecture by the first author, regarding the log-concavity of $A(\ell,n,k)$ with respect to $k$. The conjecture generalizes a previous one by Heim and Neuhauser related to the Nekrasov-Okounkov formula.

Enumeration modulo 4 of overpartitions wherein only even parts can be overlined

Abstract:In 2014, as part of a larger study of overpartitions with restrictions of the overlined parts based on residue classes, Munagi and Sellers defined $d_2(n)$ as the number of overpartitions of weight $n$ wherein only even parts can be overlined. As part of that work, they used a generating function approach to prove a parity characterization for $d_2(n)$. In this note, we give a combinatorial proof of their result and extend it to a modulus 4 characterization; we provide both generating function and combinatorial proofs of this stronger result. The combinatorial arguments incorporate classical involutions of Franklin, Glaisher, and Sylvester, along with a recent involution of van Leeuwen and methods new with this work.

Inequalities for $k$-regular partitions

Abstract:We build upon the work by Bessenrodt and Ono, as well as Beckwith and Bessenrodt concerning the combined additive and multiplicative behavior of the $k$-regular partition functions $p_k(n)$. Our focus is on addressing the solutions of the Bessenrodt--Ono inequality \begin{equation*} p_k(a) \, p_k(b) > p_k(a+b). \end{equation*} We determine the sets $E_k$ and $F_k$ consisting of all pairs $(a,b)$, where we have equality or the opposite inequality. Bessenrodt and Ono previously determined the exception sets $E_{\infty}$ and $F_{\infty}$ for the partition function $p(n)$. We prove by induction that $E_k=E_{\infty}$ and $F_k=F_{\infty}$ if and only if $k \geq 10$. Beckwith and Bessenrodt used analytic methods to consider $2 \leq k \leq 6$, while Alanazi, Gagola, and Munagi studied the case $k=2$ using combinatorial methods. Finally, we present a precise and comprehensive conjecture on the log-concavity of the $k$-regular partition function extending previous speculations by Craig and Pun. The case $k=2$ was recently proven by Dong and Ji.

Abstract:Motivated by the theorem of Győri and Lovász, we consider the following problem. For a connected graph G on n vertices and m edges determine the number P(G,k) of unordered solutions of positive integers ∑i=1kmi=m such that every mi is realized by a connected subgraph Hi of G with mi edges. We also consider the vertex‐partition analogue. We prove various lower bounds on P(G,k) as a function of the number n of vertices in G , as a function of the average degree d of G , and also as the size CMCr(G) of r ‐partite connected maximum cuts of G . Those three lower bounds are tight up to a multiplicative constant. We also prove that the number π(G,k) of unordered k ‐tuples with ∑i=1kni=n , that are realizable by vertex partitions into k connected parts, is at least Ω(dk−1) .

Abstract:The $(k,i)$-singular overpartitions, combinatorial objects introduced by Andrews in 2015, are known to satisfy Ramanujan-type congruences modulo any power of prime coprime to $6k$. In this paper we consider the parity of the number $\overline{C}_{k,i}(n)$ of $(k,i)$-singular overpartitions of $n$. In particular, we give a sufficient condition on even values of $k$ so that the values of $\overline{C}_{4k,k}(n)$ are almost always even. Furthermore, we show that for odd values of $k \leq 23$, $k\neq 19$, certain subsequences of $\overline{C}_{4k,k}(n)$ are almost always even.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{P}(n)$ be the set of partitions of the positive integer $n$. For $\alpha=(\alpha_1,...,\alpha_t) \in \mathcal{P}(n)$ define the diagonal sequence $\delta(\alpha)=(d_k(\alpha))_{k \geq 1}$ via $ d_k(\alpha) = \big\lvert \{ i \, \rvert \, 1 \leq i \leq k \mbox{ and } \alpha_i + i- 1\geq k \} \big\rvert.$ We show that the set of all partitions in $\mathcal{P}(n)$ with the same diagonal sequence is a partially ordered set under majorization with unique maximal and minimal elements and we give an explicit formula for the number of partitions with the same diagonal sequence.

Abstract:In this short note, we prove several new congruences for the overcubic partition triples function, using both elementary techniques and the theory of modular forms. These extend the recent list of such congruences given by Nayaka, Dharmendra, and Kumar (2024). We also generalize overcubic partition triples to overcubic partition $k$-tuples and prove a few arithmetic properties for these type of partitions.

Abstract:Bessenrodt and Ono, Chen, Wang and Jia, DeSalvo and Pak were the first to discover the log-subadditivity, log-concavity, and the third-order Turán inequality of partition function, respectively. Many other important partition statistics are proved to enjoy similar properties. This paper focuses on the partition function $\overline{p}_k(n)$, which counts the number of overpartitions of $n$ with no parts divisible by $k$. We provide a combinatorial proof to establish that for any $k\geq2$, the partition function $\overline{p}_k(n)$ exhibits strict log-subadditivity. Specifically, we show that $\overline{p}_k(a)\overline{p}_k(b)>\overline{p}_k(a+b)$ for integers $a\geq b\geq1$ and $a+b\geq k$. Furthermore, we investigate the log-concavity and the satisfaction of the third-order Turán inequality for $\overline{p}_k(n)$, where $2\leq k\leq9$.

Bounds for the number of multidimensional partitions

Abstract:We obtain estimates for the number $p_d(n)$ of $(d-1)$-dimensional integer partitions of a number $n$. It is known that the two-sided inequality $C_1(d)n^{1-1/d}<\log p_d(n)< C_2(d)n^{1-1/d}$ is always true and that $C_1(d)>1$ whenever $\log n> 3d$. However, establishing the $``$right$"$ dependence of $C_2$ on $d$ remained an open problem. We show that if $d$ is sufficiently small with respect to $n$, then $C_2$ does not depend on $d$, which means that $\log p_d(n)$ is up to an absolute constant equal to $n^{1-1/d}$. Besides, we provide estimates of $p_d(n)$ for different ranges of $d$ in terms of $n$, which give the asymptotics of $\log p_d(n)$ in each case.

Abstract:We mainly introduce two new kinds of numbers given by R-n = Sigma(n)(k=0) ((n)(k)) ((n + k)(k)) 1/2k - 1 (n = 0,1,2,...), S-n = Sigma(n)(k=0) ((n)(k))(2) ((2k)(k)) (2k + 1) (n = 0,1,2,...). We find that such numbers have many interesting arithmetic properties. For example, if p 1 (mod 4) is a prime with p = x(2 )+ y(2) (where x 1 (mod 4) and y 0 (mod 2)), then R(p-1)/2 p - (-1)((p-1)/4)2x ( mod p(2)). Also, 1/n(2) Sigma(n-1)(k=0) S-k is an element of Z and 1/n Sigma(n-1)(k=0) S-k(x) is an element of Z[x] for all n = 1,2,..., where S-k(x) = Sigma(k)(j=0) ((k)(j))(2) ((2j)(j)) (2j + 1)x(j). For any positive integers a and n, we show that, somewhat surprisingly, 1/n(2) Sigma(n-1)(k=0)(2k + 1) ((n - 1)(k))(a) ((-n - 1)(k))(a) is an element of Z and 1/n Sigma(n-1)(k=0) ((n - 1)(k))(a) ((-n - 1)(k))(a)/4k(2) - 1 is an element of Z. We also solve a conjecture of V. J. W. Guo and J. Zeng, and pose several conjectures for further research.
Multiplicatively reducible subsets of shifted perfect $k$-th powers and bipartite Diophantine tuples

Abstract:Recently, Hajdu and Sárközy studied the multiplicative decompositions of polynomial sequences. In particular, they showed that when $k \geq 3$, each infinite subset of $\{x^k+1: x \in \mathbb{N}\}$ is multiplicatively irreducible. In this paper, we attempt to make their result effective by building a connection between this problem and the bipartite generalization of the well-studied Diophantine tuples. More precisely, given an integer $k \geq 3$ and a nonzero integer $n$, we call a pair of subsets of positive integers $(A,B)$ \emph{a bipartite Diophantine tuple with property $BD_k(n)$} if $|A|,|B| \geq 2$ and $AB+n \subset \{x^k: x \in \mathbb{N}\}$. We show that $\min \{|A|, |B|\} \ll \log |n|$, extending a celebrated work of Bugeaud and Dujella (where they considered the case $n=1$). We also provide an upper bound on $|A||B|$ in terms of $n$ and $k$ under the assumption $\min \{|A|,|B|\}\geq 4$ and $k \geq 6$. Specializing our techniques to Diophantine tuples, we significantly improve several results by Bérczes-Dujella-Hajdu-Luca, Bhattacharjee-Dixit-Saikia, and Dixit-Kim-Murty.
