Abstract:It has been claimed in \cite{1}, that the idea proposed in \cite{2} has certain mistakes based on arguments of energy conditions and others. Additionally, some of the key arguments of the paper are criticized. Here we demonstrate that the results obtained in \cite{2} are correct and that there is no violation of any energy condition. The statements claimed in \cite{1} are based on three things: 1). Misinterpretation of the metric solution. 2). Language issues related to the physical quantities obtained in \cite{1}, where the authors make wrong interpretations about certain results over the geometry proposed in \cite{2}. 3). Non-rigorous evaluations of the vacuum condition defined via the result over the Ricci tensor $R_{\mu\nu}=0$

Abstract:In any physical system, when we move from short to large scales, new spacetime symmetries emerge which help us to simplify the dynamics of the system. In this letter we demonstrate that certain variations on the symmetries of General Relativity at large scales, generate the effects equivalent to Dark Matter. In particular, we reproduce the Tully-Fisher law, consistent with the predictions proposed by MOND. Additionally, we demonstrate that the dark matter effects derived in this way, are consistent with the predictions suggested by MOND, without modifying gravity.

Abstract:In a recent Comment on the paper "Dark matter as a Weyl geometric effect", by Burikham et al., Phys. Rev. D 107, 064008 (2023), posted on arxiv. org as eprint <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2306.11926" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.11926">arXiv:2306.11926</a>, it was claimed that the exact solution found in the above mentioned paper by Burikham et al. "is wrong". In this Reply to the Comment we present, in a clear and comprehensive way, a step by step derivation of the exact solution of the vacuum static spherically symmetric field equations of the Weyl geometric gravity theory, and we show that, contrary to the claims in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2306.11926" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.11926">arXiv:2306.11926</a>, the obtained solution is correct, and it satisfies all the equations of motion of the basic theory. Hence, it can be considered as a viable alternative model for the explanation of the behavior of the galactic rotation curves, without invoking the presence of dark matter.

The Effect of Warm Dark Matter on Galaxy Properties: Constraints from the Stellar Mass Function and the Tully-Fisher Relation

Abstract:In this paper, we combine high-resolution N-body simulations with a semi-analytical model of galaxy formation to study the effects of a possible warm dark matter (WDM) component on the observable properties of galaxies. We compare three WDM models with a dark matter (DM) mass of 0.5, 0.75, and 2.0 keV with the standard cold dark matter case. For a fixed set of parameters describing the baryonic physics, the WDM models predict fewer galaxies at low (stellar) masses, as expected due to the suppression of power on small scales, while no substantial difference is found at the high-mass end. However, these differences in the stellar mass function vanish when a different set of parameters is used to describe the (largely unknown) galaxy formation processes. We show that it is possible to break this degeneracy between DM properties and the parameterization of baryonic physics by combining observations on the stellar mass function with the Tully–Fisher relation (the relation between stellar mass and the rotation velocity at large galactic radii as probed by resolved H i rotation curves). WDM models with a too warm candidate (mν < 0.75 keV) cannot simultaneously reproduce the stellar mass function and the Tully–Fisher relation. We conclude that accurate measurements of the galaxy stellar mass function and the link between galaxies and DM halos down to the very low mass end can give very tight constraints on the nature of DM candidates.

These could be the (pseudo)constants of nature and their conjugate times, but our statements are more general. Interactions between the local and the global (for example, dependence of the local action on global times dual to constants) degrades full space-time diffeomorphism invariance down to spatial diffeomorphism invariance, and so an extra degree of freedom appears. When these presumably primordial global interactions switch off, the local action recovers full invariance and so the usual two gravitons, but a legacy matter component is left over, bearing the extra degree of freedom. Under the assumption that the preferred foliation is geodesic, this component behaves like dark matter, except that 3 of its 4 local degrees of freedom are frozen, forcing its rest frame to coincide with the preferred foliation. The nonfrozen degree of freedom (the number density of the effective fluid) is the survivor of the extra "graviton" present in the initial theory and keeps memory of all the past global interactions that took place in a given location in the preferred foliation. Such "painted-on" dark matter is best distinguished from the conventional one in situations where the preferred frame would be preposterous if all 4 degrees of freedom of dark matter were available. Abstract:We study the luminosity function (LF) and the radial distribution of satellite galaxies within Milky Way (MW) sized haloes as predicted in cold dark matter based models of galaxy formation, making use of numerical N-body techniques as well as three different semi-analytic models (SAMs) galaxy formation codes. We extract merger trees from very high-resolution dissipationless simulations of four Galaxy-sized DM haloes, and use these as common input for the SAMs. We present a detailed comparison of our predictions with the observational data recently obtained on the MW satellite LF. We find that SAMs with rather standard astrophysical ingredients are able to reproduce the observed LF over six orders of magnitude in luminosity, down to magnitudes as faint as M-V = -2. We also perform a comparison with the actual observed number of satellites as a function of luminosity, by applying the selection criteria of the SDSS survey to our simulations instead of correcting the observations for incompleteness. Using this approach, we again find good agreement for both the luminosity and radial distributions of MW satellites. We investigate which physical processes in our models are responsible for shaping the predicted satellite LF, and find that tidal destruction, suppression of gas infall by a photoionizing background, and supernova feedback all make important contributions. We conclude that the number and luminosity of MW satellites can be naturally accounted for within the (Lambda)cold dark matter paradigm, and this should no longer be considered a problem.

Abstract:Introduction: Investigating rotation curves and the Tully-Fisher ratio within galaxies represents a central theme of extensive research and scientific interest. Despite several theoretical models, a comprehensive explanation of the observed correlation between galaxy types and their rotation curves remains elusive. This study endeavors to bridge this knowledge gap by delving into the discernible connection between the presence of dark matter and galaxy classification. Theoretical background: By meticulously examining the gravitational field's dependency on its source's point symmetry, we introduce a novel theoretical framework that offers a coherent rationale for these empirical findings. Results: Our proposed model explains the appearance of dark matter as a direct consequence of the reduction of point symmetry in gravitational systems. Neither arbitrary systems with a high mass density nor a perfectly spherically symmetric mass distribution give the observable effects of dark matter. Special attention was paid to the axial symmetry scenario as a reasonable approach for modeling the mass distribution in most galaxies. We thoroughly analyzed, showing strong agreement with experimental observations for dwarf, Sb, and Scd galaxies. Conclusion: Thus, our study provides a compelling theoretical foundation for elucidating the intricate interplay between galaxy types, rotation curves, and the presence of dark matter, shedding new light on the dynamics of the cosmos.

The theory is based on a simple minimally coupled scalar field whose action only contains a canonical kinetic term and is invariant under transverse diffeomorphisms (TDiff). The model has the same number of free parameters as lambda cold dark matter ( ΛCDM ). We confront the predictions of the model at the background level with data from Planck 2018 CMB distance priors, Pantheon+ and SH0ES SNIa distance moduli, BAO data points from 6dFGS, BOSS, eBOSS and DES and measurements of the Hubble parameter from cosmic chronometers. The model provides excellent results in the joint fit analysis, showing strong and very strong evidence compared to ΛCDM in the Bayesian evidence and deviance information criterion (DIC) respectively. Abstract:The recent measurements of circular velocity curves from weak lensing of the isolated galaxies lead to a conclusion that the circular velocity curves remain flat well beyond the virial radii of dark matter halos up to 1 Mpc. This is in clear contradiction with the LCDM numerical simulations. We show that the additional cosmic force originating from the geometry of the Universe beyond the Friedmann model increases the circular velocities of the test galactic bodies and avoids a decline of the standard LCDM velocity curves.

Abstract:We show that the Tully-Fisher relation observed for spiral galaxies can be explained in the current scenario of galaxy formation without invoking subtle assumptions, provided that galactic-sized dark haloes have low concentrations which do not change significantly with halo circular velocity. This conclusion does not depend significantly on whether haloes have cuspy or flat profiles in the inner region. In such a system, both the disc and the halo may contribute significantly to the maximum rotation of the disc, and the gravitational interaction between the disc and halo components leads to a tight relation between the disc mass and maximum rotation velocity. The model can therefore be tested by studying the Tully-Fisher zero points for galaxies with different disc mass-to-light ratios. With model parameters (such as the ratio between disc and halo mass, the specific angular momentum of disc material, disc formation time) chosen in plausible ranges, the model can well accommodate the zero-point, slope and scatter of the observed Tully-Fisher relation, as well as the observed large range of disc surface densities and sizes. In particular, the model predicts that low surface brightness disc galaxies obey a Tully-Fisher relation very similar to that of normal discs, if the disc mass-to-light ratio is properly taken into account. About half of the gravitational force at maximum rotation comes from the disc component for normal discs, while the disc contribution is lower for galaxies with a lower surface density. The halo profile required by the Tully-Fisher relation is as concentrated as that required by the observed rotation curves of faint discs, but less concentrated than that given by current simulations of cold dark matter (CDM) models. We discuss the implication of such profiles for structure formation in the Universe and for the properties of dark matter. Our results cannot be explained by some of the recent proposals for resolving the conflict between conventional CDM models and the observed rotation-curve shapes of faint galaxies. If dark matter self-interaction (either scattering or annihilation) is responsible for the shallow profile, the observed Tully-Fisher relation requires the interaction cross-section σX to satisfy 〈σX|v|〉/mX∼10−16 cm3 s−1 GeV−1, where mX is the mass of a dark matter particle.

Abstract:The recent paper by Lee and Lee (2004) may strongly leave the impression that astronomers have established that the rotation curves of spiral galaxies are flat. We show that the old paradigm of Flat Rotation Curves lacks, today, any observational support and following it at face value leads to intrinsically flawed alternatives to the Standard Dark Matter Scenario. On the other side, we claim that the rich systematics of spiral galaxy rotation curves, that reveals, in the standard Newtonian Gravity framework, the phenomenon of dark matter, in alternative scenarios, works as a unique benchmark.

Abstract:We reflect on the possibility of having a matter action that is invariant only under transverse diffeomorphisms. This possibility is particularly interesting for the dark sector, where no restrictions arise based on the weak equivalence principle. In order to implement this idea we consider a scalar field which couples to gravity minimally but via arbitrary functions of the metric determinant. We show that the energy-momentum tensor of the scalar field takes the perfect fluid form when its velocity vector is time-like. We analyze the conservation of this tensor in detail, obtaining a seminal novel result for the energy density of this field in the kinetic dominated regime. Indeed, in this regime the fluid is always adiabatic and we obtain an explicit expression for the speed of sound. Furthermore, to get insight in the gravitational properties of these theories, we consider the fulfillment of the energy conditions, concluding that nontrivial physically reasonable matter violates the strong energy condition in the potential domination regime. On the other hand, we present some shift-symmetric models of particular interest. These are: constant equation of state models (which may provide us with a successful description of dark matter or dark radiation) and models presenting different gravitational domains (characterized by the focusing or possible defocusing of time-like geodesics), as it happens in unified dark matter-energy models.

Abstract:Assuming the validity of the general relativistic description of gravitation on astrophysical and cosmological length scales, we analytically infer that the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology with Einsteinian cosmological constant, and a vanishing spatial curvature constant, unambiguously requires significant amount of dark matter. This requirement is consistent with other indications for dark matter. The same spacetime symmetries that underlie the freely falling frames of Einsteinian gravity also provide symmetries, which for the spin one half representation space, furnish a novel construct that carries extremely limited interactions with respect to the terrestrial detectors made of the standard model material. Both the `luminous' and `dark' matter turn out to be residents of the same representation space but they derive their respective `luminosity' and `darkness' from either belonging to the sector with (CPT)^2 = + 1, or to the sector with (CPT)^2 = - 1.

Apparent Dark Matter Inspired by Einstein Equation of State

Abstract:The purpose of this article is twofold. First, by means of Padmanabhan's proposal on the emergence nature of gravity, we recover the $\Lambda$CDM model and the effect of the dark matter in the context of cosmology. Toward this goal, we use the key idea of Padmanabhan that states cosmic space emerges as the cosmic time progress and link the emergence of space to the difference between the number of degrees of freedom on the boundary and in the bulk. Interestingly enough, we show that the effect of the cold dark matter in the cosmological setup can be understood by assuming an interaction between the numbers of degrees of freedom in the bulk. In the second part, we follow the Jacobson's argument and obtain the modified Einstein field equations with additional dark matter component emerging due to the interaction term between dark energy and baryonic matter related by $\Omega_{DM,0}=\sqrt{2 \alpha \Omega_{M,0} \Omega_{DE,0}}$, where $\alpha$ is a coupling constant. Finally, a correspondence with Yukawa cosmology is pointed out, and the role of massive gravitons as a possibility in explaining the nature of the dark sector as well as the theoretical origin of the Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) are addressed. We speculate that the interaction coupling $\alpha$ fundamentally measures the entanglement between the gravitons and matter fields and there exists a fundamental limitation in measuring the gravitons wavelength.

Breaking the cosmological invariance of the dark matter halos shape as a new probe of modified gravity theory

Abstract:In a recent paper in Astronomy & Astrophysics, Alimi & Koskas (2024) have highlighted in wCDM models derived from general relativity (with Dark Energy Universe numerical simulation data), a cosmological invariance of the distribution of dark matter (DM) halo shapes when expressed in terms of the non-linear fluctuations of the cosmic matter field. We show in this paper that this invariance persists when tested on numerical simulations performed with a different code, i.e. a different N-body solver, DUSTGRAIN-pathfinder simulation (Giocoli et al. 2018) and that it is also robust to the addition of neutrinos to the cold component of dark matter. However, this discovery raises crucial questions about the validity of this invariance in modified gravity models. Thus, we examine whether the invariance observed by Alimi & Koskas (2024) remains robust in the case of Hu & Sawicki models of modified gravity using numerical simulations performed by Giocoli et al. (2018). By comparing the results of advanced numerical simulations in these different theoretical frameworks, we found significant deviations from the invariance observed in the framework of wCDM models of GR. These deviations suggest that the nature of the gravitation significantly influences the shape of the DM halos. We then interpret this deviation observed in the modified gravity models from the GR models as due to the scalar-field screening effect corresponding to such f(R)-type theories. This one modifies the sphericalization process of DM halos during their formation, precisely because the critical mass at which this scalar field becomes non-negligible is the mass at which the deviation appears. To this extent, the deviation from cosmological invariance in the shape of DM halos is a cosmological probe of the nature of gravity, and the mass scale at which it appears can be used to estimate the $f_{R0}$ parameter of such theories.

Abstract:We obtain more straightforwardly some features of dark matter distribution in the halos of galaxies by considering the spherically symmetric space-time, which satisfies the flat rotational curve condition, and the geometric equation of state resulting from the modified gravity theory. In order to measure the equation of state for dark matter in the galactic halo, we provide a general formalism taking into account the modified gravity theories. Here, is a general function of , where , and are the Ricci scalar, the Gauss-Bonnet scalar and the torsion scalar, respectively. These theories yield that the flat rotation curves appear as a consequence of the additional geometric structure accommodated by those of modified gravity theories. Constructing a geometric equation of state and inspiring by some values of the equation of state for the ordinary matter, we infer some properties of dark matter in galactic halos of galaxies.

Abstract:The nature of dark matter (DM) is one of the most relevant questions in modern astrophysics. We present a brief overview of recent results that inquire into a possible fermionic quantum nature of the DM particles, focusing mainly on the interconnection between the microphysics of the neutral fermions and the macrophysical structure of galactic halos, including their formation both in the linear and non-linear cosmological regimes. We discuss the general relativistic Ruffini-Argüelles-Rueda (RAR) model of fermionic DM in galaxies, its applications to the Milky Way, the possibility that the Galactic center harbors a DM core instead of a supermassive black hole (SMBH), the S-cluster stellar orbits with an in-depth analysis of the S2's orbit including precession, the application of the RAR model to other galaxy types (dwarf, elliptic, big elliptic and galaxy clusters), and universal galaxy relations. All the above focusing on the model parameters constraints, most relevant to the fermion mass. We also connect the RAR model fermions with particle physics DM candidates, self-interactions, and galactic observables constraints. The formation and stability of core-halo galactic structures predicted by the RAR model and their relation to warm DM cosmologies are also treated. Finally, we briefly discuss how gravitational lensing, dynamical friction, and the formation of SMBHs can also probe the DM nature.
