Abstract:We investigate the classical symmetries of the dynamics of the null-dust spherically symmetric Vaidya spacetime. Einstein's equations for this model can be obtained as equations of motion of a two-dimensional field theory. We discuss the transformations leaving invariant such equations of motion. These are given by two distinct sets, the residual diffeomorphisms coming from general relativity and the generalisation of the Schrödinger symmetry, recently found for the static Schwarzschild black holes. Surprisingly, these two sets represent the symmetries of two different action functionals, leading to the same equations of motion, but with different phase spaces.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to explore the classical symmetries of Vaidya spacetime. Specifically, the author studies the classical symmetries that describe the dynamics of the null - dust spherically symmetric Vaidya spacetime in the Vaidya superspace. The Einstein equations can be regarded as the equations of motion of a two - dimensional field theory in this model. The author discusses the transformations that keep these equations of motion invariant, and these transformations are divided into two groups: 1. **Residual Diffeomorphisms**: Residual diffeomorphisms from general relativity. These are redundant parts of the symmetries and do not carry physical content. 2. **Generalized Schrödinger Symmetries**: This is a generalization of a symmetry recently discovered in the static Schwarzschild black hole. These two groups of transformations represent the phase spaces of two different action functionals respectively, but they lead to the same equations of motion. The main objective of the paper is to explore how these symmetries are manifested in the Vaidya superspace and analyze their relationship with the phase - space structure. ### Main Contents of the Paper 1. **Introduction of Vaidya Superspace**: - The Vaidya metric is the simplest radiative solution and is suitable for the study of black hole evaporation problems. - The metric is usually expressed in the Eddington - Finkelstein gauge, which partially breaks the covariance on the radial - time plane. 2. **Action and Equations of Motion**: - Starting from the action of a two - dimensional field theory, the equations of motion of the Vaidya superspace are derived. - The equations of motion include three independent equations, but due to the existence of residual gauge freedoms, these equations are not completely independent. 3. **Linear Radial Gauge**: - By choosing the dilaton of the linear square root, the solution space is further simplified. - The solution space is spanned by four functions that only depend on the null coordinate \(v\). 4. **Moebius Symmetry and Residual Diffeomorphisms**: - It is explored how to generalize the Schrödinger symmetry in the static black hole to the Vaidya model. - The Moebius transformation and its influence on the solution space are discussed in detail. - The role of residual diffeomorphisms is analyzed. These transformations keep the linear Bondi gauge invariant. 5. **Phase Space and Conserved Charges**: - The phase - space structure and the conserved charges related to symmetries are discussed using the covariant phase - space formalism. - The presymplectic potential and the symplectic form are derived in detail, and the influence of boundary conditions on the variational principle is analyzed. ### Conclusion By studying the classical symmetries in the Vaidya superspace, the paper reveals how these symmetries are manifested in different phase spaces and explores their relationship with the phase - space structure. These results are of great significance for understanding the symmetries in black hole dynamics and quantum gravity.
