Abstract:We discuss the stability of the linearized Kapchinskij-Vladimirskij (KV) equation around a matched solution, which is a linear periodic Hamiltonian system. By using the averaging method and asymptotic analysis, we find stability boundaries for the linearized beam envelope system without integrating the KV equation numerically.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 55, Issue 5, Page 4337-4377, October 2023. In this paper we study the asymptotic stability problem for KdV solitons on the half-line, with zero boundary condition and absence of the drift term, represented as [math]. Unlike standard KdV, these are not exact solutions to the equation. In a previous result, we showed that these solitons are orbitally stable, provided they are placed sufficiently far from the origin. In this paper, we prove their asymptotic stability in the energy space, and provide decay properties for all remaining regions, except the "small soliton region". For the proof we follow the ideas by Martel and Merle for the big soliton part, and for the linearly dominated region we follow recent results on generalized KdV decay [C. Muñoz and G. Ponce, Comm. Abstract:This paper concerns spectral stability and time evolution of $N$-solitons in the KdV hierarchy with mixed commuting time flows. Spectral stability problem is analyzed by using a pair of self-adjoint operators with finite numbers of negative eigenvalues. We show that the absence of unstable eigenvalues in the stability problem is related to the absence of negative eigenvalues of these operators in the constrained function spaces. Time evolution of $N$-solitons is uniquely characterized from the inverse scattering transform technique.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative: \begin{align*} i\partial_tu+\partial_{xx}u+i|u|^{2}\partial_xu+b|u|^4u=0, \quad (t,x) \in \mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}, \quad b\geq 0. \end{align*} For the case $b=0$, the original DNLS, Kwon and Wu \cite{KwonWu2018} proved the conditional orbital stability of degenerate solitons including scaling, phase rotation, and spatial translation with a non-smallness condition, $\|u(t)\|_{L^6}^6> \sqrt{\delta}$. In this paper, we remove this condition for the non-positive initial energy and momentum, and we extend the stability result for $b\geq0$.

Abstract:We prove the orbital stability of soliton solutions for 2D Maxwell–Lorentz system with extended charged particle. The solitons corresponds to the uniform motion and rotation of the particle.We reduce the corresponding Hamilton system by the canonical transformation via transition to a comoving frame. The solitons are the critical points of the reduced Hamiltonian. The key point of the proof is a lower bound for the Hamiltonian.

Abstract:We study the periodic Schrödinger-Korteweg de Vries system. We describe the two-parametetric family of $2T$ periodic traveling waves of dnoidal type. The main objective of the paper is to establish their spectral stability with respect to co-periodic perturbations. In the limit $T\to \infty$, we recover the results of Albert-Angulo, for the stability of the soliton solutions of this system on the real line.

Abstract:We consider the Cauchy problem for the defocusing modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation for finite density type initial data. With the $\bar{\partial}$ generalization of the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method, we extrapolate the leading order approximation to the solution of mKdV for large time in the solitonic region of space-time, $|x/t+4|<2$, and we give bounds for the error which decay as $t\rightarrow\infty$ for a general class of initial data whose difference from the non-vanishing background possesses a fixed number of finite moments. Our results provide a verification of the soliton resolution conjecture and asymptotic stability of N-soliton solutions for mKdV equation.
Stability of elliptic function solutions for the focusing modified KdV equation

Abstract:We study the spectral and orbital stability of elliptic function solutions for the focusing modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation and construct the corresponding breather solutions to exhibit the stable or unstable dynamic behavior. The elliptic function solutions of the mKdV equation and related fundamental solutions of the Lax pair are exactly represented by theta functions. Based on the `modified squared wavefunction' (MSW) method, we construct all linear independent solutions of the linearized mKdV equation and then provide a necessary and sufficient condition of the spectral stability for elliptic function solutions with respect to subharmonic perturbations. In the case of spectrum stability, the orbital stability of elliptic function solutions is established in a suitable Hilbert space. Using Darboux-Bäcklund transformation, we construct breather solutions to exhibit unstable or stable dynamic behavior. Through analyzing the asymptotic behavior, we find that the breather solution under the cn-type solution background is equivalent to the elliptic function solution adding a small perturbation as $t\to\pm\infty$.

Abstract:Families of symmetric embedded solitary waves of a perturbed Fifth-order order Korteweg–de Vries (FKdV) system were treated in Choudhury et al. (2022) using perturbative and reversible systems techniques. Here, the stability of those solutions, which was not considered in the earlier paper, is detailed. In addition, the results of Choudhury et al. (2022) are extended to the case of asymmetric solitary waves, as well as their stability. Finally, other novel multi-humped regular solitary waves of this system are derived using convergent infinite series solutions for the homoclinic orbits of the FKdV-traveling wave equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the stability for line solitary waves of the two dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}_L$ which is one of a high dimensional generalization of Korteweg-de Vries equation , where $\mathbb{T}_L$ is the torus with the period $2\pi L$. The orbital and asymptotic stability of the one soliton of Korteweg-de Vries equation on the energy space has been proved by Benjamin, Pego and Weinstein and Martel and Merle. We regard the one soliton of Korteweg-de Vries equation as a line solitary wave of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}_L$. We prove the stability and the transverse instability of the line solitary waves of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation by applying Evans' function method and the argument of Rousset and Tzvetkov. Moreover, we prove the asymptotic stability for the orbitally stable line solitary wave of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation by using the argument of Martel and Merle, a Liouville type theorem and a corrected virial type estimate.

Abstract:In this paper, we show the orbital stability of solitons arising in the cubic derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equations. We consider the zero mass case that is not covered by earlier works [8, 3]. As this case enjoys L^2 scaling invariance, we expect the orbital stability in the sense up to scaling symmetry, in addition to spatial and phase translations. For the proof, we are based on the variational argument and extend a similar argument in [21]. Moreover, we also show a self-similar type blow up criteria of solutions with the critical mass 4{\pi}.

Abstract:In this article, we focus on the stability of dark solitons for a general one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. More precisely, we prove the orbital stability of a chain of travelling waves whose speeds are well ordered, taken close to the speed of sound c s and such that the solitons are initially localized far away from each other. The proof relies on the arguments developed by F. Béthuel, P. Gravejat and D. Smets and first introduced by Y. Martel, F. Merle and T.-P. Tsai.

Abstract:We consider the orbital stability of solitons of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili-I equation in $\mathbb{R} \times (\mathbb{R}/2\pi\mathbb{Z})$ which is one of a high dimensional generalization of the Korteweg--de Vries equation. Benjamin showed that the Korteweg--de Vries equation possesses the stable one soliton. We regard the one soliton of the Korteweg--de Vries equation as a line soliton of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili-I equation. Zakharov and Rousset--Tzvetkov proved the orbital instability of the line solitons of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili-I equation on $\mathbb{R}^2$. In the case of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili-I equation on $\mathbb{R} \times (\mathbb{R}/2\pi\mathbb{Z})$, the orbital instability of the line solitons with the traveling speed $c>4/\sqrt{3}$ and the orbital stability of the line solitons with the traveling speed $0<c<4/\sqrt{3}$ was proved by Rousset--Tzvetkov. In this paper, we prove the orbital stability of the line soliton of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili-I equation on $\mathbb{R} \times (\mathbb{R}/2\pi\mathbb{Z})$ with the critical speed $c=4/\sqrt{3}$ and the Zaitsev solitons near the line soliton. Since the linearized operator around the line soliton with the traveling speed $4/\sqrt{3}$ is degenerate, we can not apply the argument by Rousset--Tzvetkov. To prove the stability of the line soliton, we investigate the branch of the Zaitsev solitons.

Abstract:We present a stability result for ground states of a Schrodinger-Poisson system in $(2+1)$ dimension, modelling the propagation of a light beam through a liquid crystal with nonlocal nonlinear response. A new estimate for perturbations of the medium configuration allows to explicitly prove strict positivity of the second derivative of the action on a ground state. In addition we prove existence of a ground state with frequency $\sigma$ for any $\sigma \in (0,1)$ by a continuity method.

Abstract:Dispersive PDEs are important both in applications (wave phenomena e.g. in hy- drodynamics, nonlinear optics, plasma physics, Bose-Einstein condensates,...) and a mathematically very challenging class of partial differential equations, especially in the time dependent case. An important point with respect to applications is the stability of exact solutions like solitons. Whereas the linear or spectral stability can be addressed analytically in some situations, the proof of full nonlinear (in-)stability remains mostly an open question. In this paper, we numerically investi- gate the transverse (in-)stability of the solitonic solution to the one-dimensional cubic NLS equation, the well known isolated soliton, under the time evolution of several higher dimensional models, being admissible as a tranverse perturbation of the 1d cubic NLS. One of the recent work in this context [42] allowed to prove the instability of the soliton, under the flow of the classical (elliptic) 2d cubic NLS equation, for both localized or periodic perturbations. The characteristics of this instability stay however unknown. Is there a blow-up, dispersion..? We first illustrate how this instability occurs for the elliptic 2d cubic NLS equation and then show that the elliptic-elliptic Davey Stewartson system (a (2+1)-dimensional generalization of the cubic NLS equation) behaves as the former in this context. Then we investigate hyperbolic variants of the above models, for which no theory in this context is available. Namely we consider the hyperbolic 2d cubic NLS equation and the Davey-Stewartson II equations. For localized perturbations, the isolated soliton appears to be unstable for the former case, but seems to be orbitally stable for the latter. For periodic perturbations the soliton is found to be unstable for all transversally perturbed models considered.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the orbital stability of the 1-soliton solution for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation under perturbations in $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. We demonstrate this stability by utilizing the Bäcklund transformation associated with the Lax pair and by applying the first conservation quantity in $L^2(\mathbb{R}).$

Abstract:We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation $\partial_t u = -\partial_x(\partial_x^2 u + f(u))$, where $f(u)$ is an odd function of class $C^3$. Under some assumptions on $f$, this equation admits \emph{solitary waves}, that is solutions of the form $u(t, x) = Q_v(x - vt - x_0)$, for $v$ in some range $(0, v_*)$. We study pure two-solitons in the case of the same limit speed, in other words global solutions $u(t)$ such that \begin{equation} \label{eq:abstract} \tag{$\ast$} \lim_{t\to\infty}\|u(t) - (Q_v(\cdot - x_1(t)) \pm Q_v(\cdot - x_2(t)))\|_{H^1} = 0, \qquad \text{with}\quad\lim_{t \to \infty}x_2(t) - x_1(t) = \infty. \end{equation} Existence of such solutions is known for $f(u) = |u|^{p-1}u$ with $p \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus \{5\}$ and $p > 2$. We describe the~dynamical behavior of any solution satisfying \eqref{eq:abstract} under the assumption that $Q_v$ is linearly unstable (which corresponds to $p > 5$ for power nonlinearities). We prove that in this case the sign in \eqref{eq:abstract} is necessarily "$+$", which corresponds to an attractive interaction. We also prove that the~distance $x_2(t) - x_1(t)$ between the solitons equals $\frac{2}{\sqrt v}\log(\kappa t) + o(1)$ for some $\kappa = \kappa(v) > 0$.
