We will provide examples and non-examples of these groups, and establish their relationship with H-congruence. Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:This is a survey article featuring some of Wolmer Vasconcelos contributions to commutative algebra, and explaining how Vasconcelos' work and insights have contributed to the development of commutative algebra and its interaction with other areas to the present. We show that the regularity of subrings of normal $k$-uniform monomial ideals is a monotone function, and we give a normality criterion for edge ideals of graphs using Ehrhart rings.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity, $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$ and $I$ an ideal of $R$ disjoint from $S$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of an $S$-$n$-absorbing ideal which is a generalization of both the $S$-prime ideals and $n$-absorbing ideals. Moreover, we investigate the basic properties, quotient extension, existence and amalgamation of $S$-$n$-absorbing ideals.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with identity. We study the concept of strongly 1-absorbing primary ideals which is a generalization of n -ideals and a subclass of 1-absorbing primary ideals. A proper ideal I of R is called strongly 1-absorbing primary if for all nonunit elements a,b,c ∈ R such that abc ∈ I , it is either ab ∈ I or . Some properties of strongly 1-absorbing primary ideals are studied. Finally, rings R over which every semi-primary ideal is strongly 1-absorbing primary, and rings R over which every strongly 1-absorbing primary ideal is prime (or primary) are characterized. Many examples are given to illustrate the obtained results.

Abstract:We say that a countable discrete group action $\alpha$ on a C$^*$-algebra $A$ is \textit{$\mathcal{W}$-absorbing} if there exist a C$^*$-algebra $B$ and an action $\beta$ on $B$ such that $\alpha$ is cocycle conjugate to $\beta\otimes \mathrm{id}_{\mathcal{W}}$ on $B\otimes \mathcal{W}$ where $\mathcal{W}$ is the Razak-Jacelon algebra. In this paper, we completely classify outer $\mathcal{W}$-absorbing actions of finite groups on $\mathcal{W}$ up to conjugacy and cocycle conjugacy.

Abstract:$\bf{W}^*$ is the category of the archimedean l-groups with distinguished strong order unit and unit-preserving l-group homomorphisms. For $G \in \bf{W}^*$, we have the canonical compact space $YG$, and Yosida representation $G \leq C(YG)$, thus, for $g \in G$, the cozero-set coz(g) in $YG$. The ideals at issue in $G$ include the principal ideals and polars, $G(g)$ and $g^{\perp \perp}$, respectively, and the $\bf{W}^*$-kernels of $\bf{W}^*$-morphisms from $G$. Countable strongly annihilated ideals in commutative rings

Abstract:In this paper we introduce and study the concept of countable strongly annihilated ideal in commutative rings, in particular in rings of continuous functions. We show that a maximal ideal in $C(X)$ is countable strongly annihilated if and only if it is a real maximal $z^\circ$-ideal. It turns out that $X$ is an almost $P$-space if and only if countable strongly annihilated ideals and strongly divisible $z$-ideals coincide if and only if every $M_x$ is a countable strongly annihilated ideal, for any $x\in X$. We observe that an almost $P$-space $X$ is Lindelof if and only if every countable strongly annihilated ideal is fixed. We give a negative answer to a question raised by Gilmer and McAdam.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a dense countable subgroup of $\mathbb{R}$. Then, consider $IE(\Gamma)$; the group of piecewise linear bijections of $[0,1]$ with finitely many angles, all in $\Gamma$. We introduce and systematically study a family of partial transformation groupoids coming from inverse semigroups, $\mathcal{G}_\Gamma$, that realise $IE(\Gamma)$ as a topological full group. This new perspective on the groupoid models $\mathcal{G}_\Gamma$ of $IE(\Gamma)$ allows us to better understand the underlying C*-algebras and to compute homology. We show that $H_*(\mathcal{G}_\Gamma)=H_{*+1}(\Gamma)$. We show $C^*_r(\mathcal{G}_\Gamma)$ is classifiable in the sense of the Elliott classification program of C$^*$-algebras. We then classify these groups via the Elliott invariant, showing $IE(\Gamma) \cong IE(\Gamma') \Leftrightarrow \Gamma=\Gamma'$ as subsets of $\mathbb{R}$. We relate the K-Theory of the reduced C$^*$ -algebras to groupoid homology via Matui's HK Conjecture. We relate the homology of $IE(\Gamma)$ to the homology of $\Gamma$ using the recent framework developed by Li. We investigate in greater detail three key cases, namely if $\Gamma \subset \mathbb{Q}$, if $\Gamma \cong \mathbb{Z}^n$, and if $\Gamma$ is a ring. For these three cases, we study homology in greater detail and find explicit generating sets.

Abstract:The ideal membership problem asks whether an element in the ring belongs to the given ideal. In this paper, we propose a function that reflecting the complexity of the ideal membership problem in the ring of Laurent polynomials with integer coefficients. We also connect the complexity function we define to the Dehn function of a metabelian group, in the hope of constructing a metabelian group with superexponential Dehn function.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a monoid (written multiplicatively). We call $H$ Archimedean if, for all $a, b \in H$ such that $b$ is a non-unit, there is an integer $k \ge 1$ with $b^k \in HaH$; strongly Archimedean if, for each $a \in H$, there is an integer $k \ge 1$ such that $HaH$ contains any product of any $k$ non-units of $H$; and duo if $aH = Ha$ for all $a \in H$. We prove that the ideals of two strongly Archimedean, cancellative, duo monoids make up isomorphic semigroups under the induced operation of setwise multiplication if and only if the monoids themselves are isomorphic up to units; and the same holds upon restriction to finitely generated ideals in Archimedean, cancellative, duo monoids. Then we use the previous results to tackle a new case of a problem of Tamura and Shafer from the late 1960s.

Abstract:We continue the study of the rich family of norm-closed, automorphism invariant ideals of a continuous nest algebra. First we present a unified framework which captures all stable ideals as the kernels of limits of diagonal compressions. We then characterize when two such limits give rise to the same ideal, and we obtain detailed information of the structure of sums and intersections of ideals.

Abstract:Cohomology for actions of free abelian groups on the Cantor set has (when endowed with an order structure) provided a complete invariance for orbit equivalence. In this paper, we study a particular class of actions of such groups called odometers (or profinite actions) and investigate their cohomology. We show that for a free, minimal $\Z^{d}$-odometer, the first cohomology group provides a complete invariant for the action up to conjugacy. This is in contrast with the situation for orbit equivalence where it is the cohomology in dimension $d$ which provides the invariant. We also consider classification up to isomorphism and continuous orbit equivalence.

Some Homological Conjectures Over Idealization Rings

Abstract:Let $(R,\mathfrak{m},k)$ be a Noetherian local ring and let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. The main focus of this paper is to give positive answers for some long-standing homological conjectures over the idealization ring $R\ltimes M$. First, if $N$ is a $R\ltimes k$-module, we show that the vanishing of $\operatorname{Ext}_{R\ltimes k}^{i}(N,N\oplus (R\ltimes k))$ for $i=1,2,3$ gives that $N$ is free, and this provides a sharpened version of the Auslander-Reiten conjecture over $R\ltimes k$. Also, we give a characterization of the Betti numbers of an $R$-module over the idealization ring $R\ltimes M$ and, as a biproduct, we derive that the Jorgensen-Leuschke conjecture holds true for $R\ltimes M$. Further, we show that the true of Buchsbaum-Eisenbud-Horrocks and Total Rank conjectures over $R$ implies the true over $R\ltimes M$. This establishes particular answers for both conjectures for modules with infinite projective dimension, especially when $R$ is regular or a complete intersection ring. As applications of the idealization ring theory, we show that the Zariski-Lipman conjecture holds for any ring $R$ provided the Betti numbers of the $R$-derivation module $\operatorname{Der}_k(R)$, seen as $R\ltimes k$-module, satisfy the inequality $\beta_{n}^{R\ltimes k}(\operatorname{Der}_k(R))\leq\beta_{n-1}^{R\ltimes k}(\operatorname{Der}_k(R))$ for some $n>0$. Some implications regarding the Herzog-Vasconcelos conjecture are also provided.

Ideals, quotients, and continuity of the Cuntz semigroup for rings

Abstract:In this paper we explore which part of the ideal lattice of a general ring is parametrized by its Cuntz semigroup $\mathrm{S}(R)$ and its ambient semigroup $\Lambda(R)$. We identify these classes of ideals as the quasipure ideals (a generalization of pure ideals) in the case of $\mathrm{S}(R)$, and what we term decomposable ideals in the case of $\Lambda(R)$. For an ($s$-)unital ring $R$, the latter class exhausts all ideals of the ring. We prove that these constructions behave well with respect to quotients. In order to study the passage to inductive limits, we introduce the classes of dense and left normal rings. We show that $\mathrm{S}(R)$ is an abstract Cu-semigroup whenever $R$ is left normal and, for such rings, the assignment $R\mapsto \mathrm{S}(R)$ is continuous. We prove a parallel result for $\Lambda(R)$ whenever $R$ is a dense ring.

Stable homology over associative rings

Abstract:We analyze stable homology over associative rings and obtain results over Artin algebras and commutative noetherian rings. Our study develops similarly for these classes; for simplicity we only discuss the latter here. Stable homology is a broad generalization of Tate homology. Vanishing of stable homology detects classes of rings---among them Gorenstein rings, the original domain of Tate homology. Closely related to gorensteinness of rings is Auslander's G-dimension for modules. We show that vanishing of stable homology detects modules of finite G-dimension. This is the first characterization of such modules in terms of vanishing of (co)homology alone. Stable homology, like absolute homology, Tor, is a theory in two variables. It can be computed from a flat resolution of one module together with an injective resolution of the other. This betrays that stable homology is not balanced in the way Tor is balanced. In fact, we prove that a ring is Gorenstein if and only if stable homology is balanced.
