Abstract:We prove resolvent estimates for a Schrödinger operator with a short-range potential outside an obstacle with Dirichlet boundary conditions. As a consequence, we deduce integrability of the local energy for the wave equation, and smoothing effect for the Schrödinger equation. Finally, for both equations, we prove that local Strichartz estimates for the free equation outside an obstacle imply global Strichartz estimates with a short-range potential outside the same obstacle. The estimates are all global in time, after projection on the continuous spectrum of the operator.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the dispersion estimation problem of the wave equation and the Schrödinger equation with short - range potentials in non - trapping exterior domains. Specifically, the authors studied the existence of global Strichartz estimates for the solutions of these equations under these conditions. These problems are very important in mathematical physics, especially when dealing with wave propagation in exterior regions containing obstacles and quantum mechanics problems.
### Main objectives of the paper:
1. **Prove the analytic estimates of the Schrödinger operator with short - range potentials**: For a Schrödinger operator with a short - range potential having Dirichlet boundary conditions outside the obstacle, the author proved its analytic estimates.
2. **Derive the local energy integrability of the wave equation**: As a result of the above - mentioned analytic estimates, the author derived the local energy integrability of the wave equation.
3. **Prove the smoothing effect of the Schrödinger equation**: Also based on the analytic estimates, the author proved the smoothing effect of the Schrödinger equation.
4. **Global Strichartz estimates**: For the wave equation and the Schrödinger equation, the author proved that if the local Strichartz estimates of the free equation outside the obstacle hold, then the global Strichartz estimates with short - range potentials also hold.
### Mathematical background:
- **Strichartz estimates**: Strichartz estimates are important tools for describing the space - time integral properties of the solutions of the wave equation and the Schrödinger equation. These estimates are usually used to prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions, as well as the regularity of solutions.
- **Short - range potential**: A short - range potential refers to a potential function that decays rapidly as the distance increases, usually in the form of \( |V(x)| \leq C(1 + |x|)^{-\alpha} \), where \( \alpha > 2 \).
- **Non - trapping exterior domain**: A non - trapping exterior domain means that the rays within this region will eventually leave any compact subset, which implies that there are no rays "trapped" by the obstacle.
### Main results:
- **Analytic estimates**: The author proved the analytic estimates of the Schrödinger operator with short - range potentials in non - trapping exterior domains.
- **Energy integrability and smoothing effect**: Based on the analytic estimates, the author derived the local energy integrability of the wave equation and the smoothing effect of the Schrödinger equation.
- **Global Strichartz estimates**: The author proved that if the local Strichartz estimates of the free equation outside the obstacle hold, then the global Strichartz estimates with short - range potentials also hold.
### Methods:
- **Proof of analytic estimates**: By using techniques in complex analysis, such as analytic continuation and the limiting absorption principle, the author proved the required analytic estimates.
- **Derivation of energy integrability and smoothing effect**: Using the analytic estimates, combined with the energy method and inequalities in weighted spaces, the author derived the energy integrability and smoothing effect.
- **Proof of global Strichartz estimates**: By combining the local Strichartz estimates and the analytic estimates, the author proved the global Strichartz estimates.
### Applications:
- **Wave propagation**: These results can be applied to describe the propagation of waves in complex geometric structures, such as the propagation of sound waves or electromagnetic waves in media containing obstacles.
- **Quantum mechanics**: These results are very useful for studying the behavior of particles in quantum systems, especially in the presence of potential fields.
In conclusion, through rigorous mathematical analysis, this paper solves the dispersion estimation problem of the wave equation and the Schrödinger equation with short - range potentials in non - trapping exterior domains, providing an important theoretical basis for research in related fields.
