Abstract:Recently, Boroczky, Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang [J. Amer. Math. Soc. 26 (2013), pp. 831-852] established necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the logarithmic Minkowski problem for origin-symmetric measures. We establish the existence of solutions to the logarithmic Minkowski problem for non-symmetric measures and demonstrate the non-uniqueness of solutions to the logarithmic Minkowski problem.

Abstract:This paper introduces a new superfamily of divergences that is similar in spirit to the S-divergence family introduced by Ghosh et al. (2013). This new family serves as an umbrella that contains the logarithmic power divergence family (Renyi, 1961; Maji, Chakraborty and Basu 2014) and the logarithmic density power divergence family (Jones et al., 2001) as special cases. Various properties of this new family and the corresponding minimum distance procedures are discussed with particular emphasis on the robustness issue; these properties are demonstrated through simulation studies. In particular the method demonstrates the limitation of the first order influence function in assessing the robustness of the corresponding minimum distance procedures.

Abstract:The convergence of Cesàro means of negative order of double trigonometric Fourier series of functions of bounded partial $\Lambda$-variation is investigated. The sufficient and neccessary conditions on the sequence $\Lambda =\{\lambda_{n}\}$ are found for the convergence of Cesàro means of Fourier series of functions of bounded partial $\Lambda$-variation.

Abstract:The purpose of this note is to extend the divergences analyzed in a previous work by application of the Deformed Logarithm in its most general form. In a study on entropic divergences, we have analyzed the different forms of the deformed logarithm and their applications to this type of divergence. A very general form of the deformed logarithm has been highlighted; it allows us to group the different expressions of the deformed logarithm under a unique form which includes all the others. Beyond the applications linked to the divergences based on entropy, we propose here to extend the classical divergences by application of the generalized deformed Logarithm.

Abstract:This work belongs to the framework of inverse problems with linear model. The resolution of this type of problem consists in minimizing (possibly under constraints) a function of discrepancy between the measurements and a physical model of the considered phenomenon. We will here extend this study to divergence functions based on forms of entropy developed in the field of Statistical Physics. These various forms of entropy are based on "the deformed algebra" [9] and in particularly on the notion of "Deformed Logarithm" [15][9].

Abstract:We prove logarithmic Sobolev inequalities on higher-dimensional bounded smooth domains based on novel Gagliardo-Nirenberg type interpolation inequalities. Moreover, we use them to address the long-time dynamics of some nonlinear nonlocal drift-diffusion models and prove the exponential decay of their solutions to constant steady states.

Abstract:We generalize the classical Olivier's theorem which says that for any convergent series $\sum_n a_n$ with positive nonincreasing real terms the sequence $(n a_n)$ tends to zero. Our results encompass many known generalizations of Olivier's theorem and give some new instances. The generalizations are done in two directions: we either drop the monotonicity assumption completely or we relax it to the monotonicity on a large set of indices. In both cases, the convergence of $(na_n)$ is replaced by ideal convergence. In the second part of the paper, we examine families of sequences for which the assertions of our generalizations of Olivier's theorem fail. Here, we are interested in finding large linear and algebraic substructures in these families.

This connection leads to a proof of the Hawaii Conjecture (T. Craven, G. Csordas, and W. Abstract:We address the existence in the sense of sequences of solutions for a certain integro-differential type problem involving the logarithmic Laplacian. The argument is based on the fixed point technique when such equation contains the operator without the Fredholm property. It is established that, under the reasonable technical conditions, the convergence in L^1(R^d) of the integral kernels yields the existence and convergence in L^2(R^d) of the solutions.

Abstract:Unlike the classical theory of Fourier series which deals with decomposition of a function into sinusoidal waves the Vilenkin (Walsh) functions are rectangular waves. The development of the theory of Vilenkin-Fourier series has been strongly influenced by the classical theory of trigonometric series but there are a lot of differences also. The aim of my master thesis is to discuss, develop and apply the newest developments of this fascinating theory connected to modern harmonic analysis. In particular, we investigate Nörlund means but only in the case when their coefficients are monotone and prove convergence in Lebesgue and Vilenkin-Lebesgue points. Since almost everywhere points are Lebesgue and Vilenkin-Lebesgue points for any integrable functions we obtain almost everywhere convergence of such summability methods.

Abstract:S. Banach, in particular, proved that for any function, even $f(x) = 1,$ where $x\in[0,1],$ the convergence of its Fourier series with respect to the general orthonormal systems (ONS) is not guaranteed. In this paper, we find conditions for the functions $\varphi_{n}$ of an ONS $(\varphi_n),$ under which the Fourier series of functions $f\in Lip_1$ are unconditionally convergent almost everywhere. During our research, we mainly used the properties of the sequences of linear functionals on the Banach spaces to prove the main theorems we presented in this article. Our research has concluded that the aforementioned conditions do exist and are the best possible in a certain sense. We have also found that any ONS contains a subsystem such that the Fourier series of any function $f\in Lip_1$ is unconditionally convergent. Further, the precondition presented in Theorem \ref{theorem1.1}, which demands that the Fourier series of the function $f=1$ be convergent, is adequate, meaning that it does not make the actual conditions of Theorem \ref{theorem1.1} redundant. We have shown that the solution for these types of problems for the general ONS is trivial for the classical ONS (trigonometric, Haar, and Walsh systems).

Abstract:This paper is divided into two parts. The first part reviews the formulae for f-divergences in the study of continuous-time Markov processes and explores their applications in areas such as stochastic stability, the second law of thermodynamics, and its non-equilibrium extensions. This sets the foundation for the second part, which focuses on f-divergence in the study of hidden Markov processes. In this context, we present analyses of filter stability and stochastic thermodynamics, with the latter being used to illustrate the concept of a Maxwell demon in an over-damped Langevin model with white noise observations. The paper's expository style and unified formalism for both Markov and hidden Markov processes aim to serve as a valuable resource for researchers working across related fields.

Abstract:During almost two centuries after the Gauss' formulation of the Dirichlet problem for Laplace equation, many famous mathematicians devoted their studies to this subject and to its various generalizations. Many interesting and important results have been obtained, which become already classical ones. Our paper is an extended presentation of the author's talk on the international conference dedicate to the century of V. S. Vladimirov birthday. Its main content is the review of the results in that direction, including the proves of new statements and discussion of unsolved problems. Our goal is to convince readers that, in this "principal" problem of mathematical physics, we know far from everything even about the case of linear equation. There are many interesting and important unsolved problems in that direction.

Abstract:The data processing inequality is central to information theory and motivates the study of monotonic divergences. However, it is not clear operationally we need to consider all such divergences. We establish a simple method for Pinsker inequalities as well as general bounds in terms of $\chi^{2}$-divergences for twice-differentiable $f$-divergences. These tools imply new relations for input-dependent contraction coefficients. We use these relations to show for many $f$-divergences the rate of contraction of a time homogeneous Markov chain is characterized by the input-dependent contraction coefficient of the $\chi^{2}$-divergence. This is efficient to compute and the fastest it could converge for a class of divergences. We show similar ideas hold for mixing times. Moreover, we extend these results to the Petz $f$-divergences in quantum information theory, albeit without any guarantee of efficient computation. These tools may have applications in other settings where iterative data processing is relevant.

Abstract:We present a new proof of the classical divergence theorem in bounded domains. Our proof is based on a nonlocal analog of the divergence theorem and a rescaling argument. Main ingredients in the proof are nonlocal versions of the divergence and the normal derivative. We employ these to provide definitions of well-known nonlocal concepts such as the fractional perimeter.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the following logarithmic Schrödinger system where Ω = R N or Ω ⊂ R N ( N ⩾ 3) is a bounded smooth domain, and ω i ∈ R, μ i , ρ i > 0 for i = 1, 2. Moreover, p,q ⩾ 1, and 2 ⩽ p + q ⩽ 2*, where . By using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and a careful estimation of u log u 2 , firstly, we provide a unified proof of the existence of the normalized ground state solution for all 2 ⩽ p + q ⩽ 2*. Secondly, we consider the stability of normalized ground state solutions. Finally, we analyze the behavior of solutions for the Sobolev-subcritical case and pass to the limit as the exponent p + q approaches 2*. Notably, the uncertainty of the sign of u log u 2 in (0, +∞) is one of the difficulties of this paper, and also one of the motivations we are interested in. In particular, we can establish the existence of positive normalized ground state solutions for the Brézis-Nirenberg type problem with logarithmic perturbations (i.e., p + q = 2*). In addition, our study includes proving the existence of solutions to the logarithmic type Brézis-Nirenberg problem with and without the L 2 -mass constraint ∫ Ω ∣ u i ∣ 2 dx = ρ i ( i = 1, 2) by two different methods, respectively. Our results seem to be the first result of the normalized solution of the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system with logarithmic perturbations.

Global wellposedness of general nonlinear evolution equations for distributions on the Fourier half space

Abstract:The Cauchy problem is studied for very general systems of evolution equations, where the time derivative of solution is written by Fourier multipliers in space and analytic nonlinearity, with no other structural requirement. We construct a function space for the Fourier transform embedded in the space of distributions, and establish the global wellposedness with no size restriction. The major restriction on the initial data is that the Fourier transform is supported on the half space, decaying at the boundary in the sense of measure. We also require uniform integrability for the orthogonal directions in the distribution sense, but no other condition. In particular, the initial data may be much more rough than the tempered distributions, and may grow polynomially at the spatial infinity. A simpler argument is also presented for the solutions locally integrable in the frequency. When the Fourier support is slightly more restricted to a conical region, the generality of equations is extremely wide, including those that are even locally illposed in the standard function spaces, such as the backward heat equations, as well as those with infinite derivatives and beyond the natural boundary of the analytic nonlinearity. As more classical examples, our results may be applied to the incompressible and compressible Navier-Stokes and Euler equations, the nonlinear diffusion and wave equations, and so on. The major drawback of the Fourier support restriction is that the solutions cannot be real valued.

Hyperlogarithms in the theory of turbulence of infinite dimension

Abstract:Parametric integration with hyperlogarithms so far has been successfully used in problems of high energy physics (HEP) and critical statics. In this work, for the first time, it is applied to a problem of critical dynamics, namely, a stochastic model of developed turbulence in high-dimensional spaces, which has a propagator that is non-standard with respect to the HEP: $(-i \omega + \nu k^2)^{-1}$. Adaptation of the hyperlogarithm method is carried out by choosing a proper renormalization scheme and considering an effective dimension of the space. Analytical calculation of the renormalization group functions is performed up to the fourth order of the perturbation theory, $\varepsilon$-expansion of the critical exponent $\omega$ responsible for the infrared stability of the fixed point is obtained.

Generalized divergences for statistical evaluation of uncertainty in long-memory processes

Abstract:Environmental variables such as streamflow discharge and water quality indices vary stochastically over time and often exhibit long (subexponential) memory. Their dynamics are described by stochastic differential equations that are superposed with respect to a probability measure of the reversion speeds, called the reversion measure. The reversion measure governs their statistics; however, as its accurate estimation is not always successful owing to data limitations, possible misspecifications should be assumed. In particular, bounding their statistics from below and above should be performed robustly within a unified mathematical framework, which still remains challenging. We propose bounding the statistics of long-memory processes by a pair of risk measures based on the Kaniadakis or α divergence, which are generalizations of the Kullback–Leibler divergence. We obtain a series of mathematical results for the upper- and lower-bounding divergence risk measures of the reversion measure based on these divergences in proper Orlicz spaces, along with their continuous embedding relationships. These results clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the two divergences in applications. A multifractional limit of the long-memory process under misspecification is also considered to investigate behavior of the scaling function and its correspondence with an anomalous diffusion. We also show that the recently proposed generalized Lorenz curve allows for a deeper comprehension of the bounds. Finally, we apply our mathematical framework to hourly streamflow discharge data with a record length of about 20 years.
