Abstract:The system-bath entanglement theorem (SBET) was established in terms of linear response functions [Du et al., J. Chem. Phys. 152, 034102 (2020)] and generalized to correlation functions [Su et al., J. Chem. Phys. 160, 084104 (2024)] in our previous studies. This theorem connects the entangled system-bath properties to the local system and bare-bath ones. In this work, we extend the SBET to field-dressed conditions with multiple baths at different temperatures. As in reality, the external fields may interact with not only the system but also environments. The extended SBET facilitates, for example, photo-acoustic, photo-thermal, pump-probe related studies. The theorem under the field-free condition (multiple baths) and its counterpart in the classical limit is also presented.

Abstract:A system-bath entanglement theorem (SBET) with Gaussian environments was established previously in J. Chem. Phys. 152, 034102 (2020) in terms of linear response functions. This theorem connects the system-bath entanglement responses to the local system and bare bath ones. In this work, we generalize it to correlation functions. Key steps in derivation are the generalized Langevin dynamics for the hybridizing bath modes as in the previous work, together with the Bogoliubov transformation mapping the original finite-temperature canonical reservoir to an effective zero-temperature vacuum via an auxiliary bath. With the theorem, the system-bath entangled correlations and the bath modes correlations in the full composite space can be evaluated as long as the bare-bath statistical properties are known and the reduced system correlations are obtained. Numerical demonstrations are carried out for the evaluation of the solvation free energy of an electron transfer system with a certain intramolecular vibrational modes.

Abstract:The counter rotating-wave term (CRT) effects from the system-bath coherence on the dynamics of quantum correlation of two qubits in two independent baths and a common bath are systematically investigated. The hierarchy approach is extended to solve the relevant spin boson models with the Lorentzian spectrum, the exact dynamics for the quantum entanglement and quantum discord (QD) are evaluated, and the comparisons with previous ones under the rotating-wave approximation are performed. For the two independent baths, beyond the weak system-bath coupling, the CRT essentially changes the evolution of both entanglement and QD. With the increase of the coupling, the revival of the entanglement is suppressed dramatically and finally disappears, and the QD becomes smaller monotonically. For the common bath, the entanglement is also suppressed by the CRT, but the QD shows quite different behaviors, if initiated from the correlated Bell states. In the non-Markovian regime, the QD is almost not influenced by the CRT and generally finite in the long time evolution at any coupling, while in the Markovian regime, it is significantly enhanced with the strong coupling.

Abstract:Developed originally for the Holstein polaron, the Davydov D1 ansatz is an efficient, yet extremely accurate trial state for time-dependent variation of the spin-boson model [N. Wu, L. Duan, X. Li, and Y. Zhao, J. Chem. Phys. 138, 084111 (2013)]. In this work, the Dirac-Frenkel time-dependent variational procedure utilizing the Davydov D1 ansatz is implemented to study entanglement dynamics of two qubits under the influence of two independent baths. The Ohmic spectral density is used without the Born-Markov approximation or the rotating-wave approximation. In the strong coupling regime finite-time disentanglement is always found to exist, while at the intermediate coupling regime, the entanglement dynamics calculated by Davydov D1 ansatz displays oscillatory behavior in addition to entanglement disappearance and revival.

Abstract:We propose a general extended coherent state approach to the qubit (orfermion) and multi-mode boson coupling systems. The application to thespin-boson model with the discretization of a bosonic bath with arbitrarycontinuous spectral density is described in detail, and very accurate solutionscan be obtained. The quantum phase transition in the nontrivial sub-Ohmic casecan be located by the fidelity and the order-parameter critical exponents forthe bath exponents s<1/2 can be correctly given by the fidelitysusceptibility, demonstrating the strength of the approach.

Abstract:In this work, we extend the recently established system-bath entanglement theorem (SBET) to the nonequilibrium scenario, in which an arbitrary system couples to multiple Gaussian bath environments at different temperatures. The existing SBET connects the entangled system-bath response functions to those of local systems, while the extended theory is concerned with the nonequilibrium steady-state quantum transport current through molecular junctions. The new theory is established on the basis of the generalized Langevin equation, with a close relation to nonequilibrium thermodynamics in the quantum regime.

Abstract:In this work, we establish a so-called "system-bath entanglement theorem," for arbitrary systems coupled with Gaussian environments. This theorem connects the entangled system-bath response functions in the total composite space to those of local systems, as long as the interacting bath spectral densities are given. We validate the theorem with direct evaluation via the exact dissipaton-equation-of-motion approach. Therefore, this work enables various quantum dissipation theories, which originally describe only the reduced system dynamics, for their evaluations on the system-bath entanglement properties. Numerical demonstrations are carried out on the Fano interference spectroscopies of spin-boson systems.

Abstract:We explore the dynamics of spin-boson model for the Ohmic bath by employing the master equation approach and obtain an explicit expression of reduced density matrix. We also calculate the geometric phases of the spin-boson model by making use of the analytical results and discuss how the dissipative bosonic environment affects geometric phases. Furthermore, we investigate the dynamics of quantum discord and entanglement of two qubits each locally interacting with its own independent bosonic environments. It is found that the decay properties of quantum discord and entanglement are sensitive to the choice of initial state's parameter and coupling strength between system and bath.

Abstract:We derive a set of hierarchical equations for qubits interacting with a Lorentz-broadened cavity mode at zero temperature, without using the rotating-wave, Born, and Markovian approximations. We use this exact method to reexamine the entanglement dynamics of two qubits interacting with a common bath, which was previously solved only under the rotating-wave and single-excitation approximations. With the exact hierarchy equation method used here, double excitations due to counter-rotating-wave terms are found to have remarkable effects on the dynamics and the steady-state entanglement.

Abstract:The spin-boson model usually considers a spin coupled to a single bosonic bath. However, some physical situations require coupling of the spin to multiple environments. For example, spins interacting with phonons in three-dimensional magnetic materials. Here, we consider a spin coupled isotropically to three independent baths. We show that coupling to multiple baths can significantly increase entanglement between the spin and its environment at zero temperature. The effect of this is to reduce the spin's expectation values in the mean force equilibrium state. In contrast, the classical three-bath spin equilibrium state turns out to be entirely independent of the environmental coupling. These results reveal purely quantum effects that can arise from multi-bath couplings, with potential applications in a wide range of settings, such as magnetic materials.

System-bath entanglement of noninteracting fermionic impurities: Equilibrium, transient, and steady-state regimes

Abstract:We investigate the behavior of entanglement between a single fermionic level and a fermionic bath in three distinct thermodynamic regimes. First, in thermal equilibrium, we analyze the dependence of entanglement on the considered statistical ensemble: for the grand canonical state, it is generated only for a sufficiently strong system-bath coupling, whereas it is present for arbitrarily weak couplings for the canonical state with a fixed particle number. The threshold coupling strength, at which entanglement appears, is shown to strongly depend on the bath bandwidth. Second, we consider the relaxation to equilibrium. In this case a transient entanglement in a certain time interval can be observed even in the weak-coupling regime, when the reduced dynamics and thermodynamics of the system can be well described by an effectively classical and Markovian master equation for the state populations. At strong coupling strengths, entanglement is preserved for long times and converges to its equilibrium value. Finally, in voltage-driven junctions, a steady-state entanglement is generated for arbitrarily weak system-bath couplings at a certain threshold voltage. It is enhanced in the strong-coupling regime, and it is reduced by either the particle-hole or the tunnel coupling asymmetry.

Reviving the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis Theorem in Open Quantum Systems

Abstract:In closed systems, the celebrated Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) theorem states that a one-dimensional locally interacting half-integer spin chain with translation and spin rotation symmetry cannot have a non-degenerate gapped ground state. However, the applicability of this theorem is diminished when the system interacts with a bath and loses its energy conservation. In this letter, we propose that the LSM theorem can be revived in the entanglement Hamiltonian when the coupling to bath renders the system short-range correlated. Specifically, we argue that the entanglement spectrum cannot have a non-degenerate minimum, isolated by a gap from other states. We further support the results with numerical examples where a spin-$1/2$ system is coupled to another spin-$3/2$ chain serving as the bath. Compared with the original LSM theorem which primarily addresses UV--IR correspondence, our findings unveil that the UV data and topological constraints also have a pivotal role in shaping the entanglement in open quantum many-body systems.

We provide an error estimate of the difference of physical observable induced by the variation of bath correlation function, based on diagrammatic and combinatorial arguments. Abstract:We present the entanglement properties of the spin-orbital coupling systems with multiple degrees of freedom. After constructing the maximally entangled spin-orbital basis of bipartite, we find that the quantum entanglement length in the noninteracting itinerant Fermion system with spin and orbit is considerably larger than that in the system with only spin. In the SU(2)$\otimes$SU(2) spin-orbital interacting system, the entanglement, expressed in terms of the spin-orbital correlation functions, clearly manifests the close relationship with the quantum phases in strongly correlated systems; and the entanglement phase diagram of the finite-size systems is in agreement with the magnetic and orbital phase diagram of the infinite systems. The application of the present theory on nucleon systems is suggested.

Abstract:We obtain an exact expression of the negativity for SU(2)-invariant bipartite spin-(1,s) states via the partial time reversal method. Studies of thermal states show that the threshold temperature of entanglement may be arbitrary high when s is sufficient large, indicating that the entanglement is very robust against temperature. Negativities in bilinear-biquadratic system are also considered.

Abstract:We present a detailed study of the entanglement dynamics of a two-qubit system coupled to independent non-Markovian environments, employing hierarchy equations. This recently developed theoretical treatment can conveniently solve non-Markovian problems. We concentrate on calculating the death and rebirth time points of the entanglement to obtain a general view of the concurrence curve and explore the behavior of entanglement dynamics with respect to the coupling strength, the characteristic frequency of the noise bath and the environment temperature.

Abstract:A general scheme to seek for the relations between entanglement and bservables is proposed in principle. In two-qubit systems with enough general Hamiltonian, we find the entanglement to be the functions of observables for six kinds of chosen state sets and verify how these functions be invariant with time evolution. Moreover, we demonstrate and illustrate the cases with entanglement versus a set of commutable observables under eight kinds of given initial states. Our conclusions show how entanglement become observable even measurable by experiment, and they are helpful for understanding of the nature of entanglement in physics.

Abstract:Local unitary operations allow for a unifying approach to the quantification of quantum correlations among the constituents of a bipartite quantum system. For pure states, the distance between a given state and its image under least-perturbing local unitary operations is a bona fide measure of quantum entanglement, the so-called entanglement of response, which can be extended to mixed states via the convex roof construction. On the other hand, when defined directly on mixed states perturbed by local unitary operations, such a distance turns out to be a bona fide measure of quantum correlations, the so-called discord of response. Exploiting this unified framework, we perform a detailed comparison between two-body entanglement and two-body quantum discord in infinite XY quantum spin chains both in symmetry-preserving and symmetry-breaking ground states as well as in thermal states at finite temperature. The results of the investigation show that in symmetry-preserving ground states the two-point quantum discord dominates over the two-point entanglement, while in symmetrybreaking ground states the two-point quantum discord is strongly suppressed and the two-point entanglement is essentially unchanged. In thermal states, for certain regimes of Hamiltonian parameters, we show that the pairwise quantum discord and the pairwise entanglement can increase with increasing thermal fluctuations.
