Abstract:We consider a general class of bulk-surface convective Cahn--Hilliard systems with dynamic boundary conditions. In contrast to classical Neumann boundary conditions, the dynamic boundary conditions of Cahn--Hilliard type allow for dynamic changes of the contact angle between the diffuse interface and the boundary, a convection-induced motion of the contact line as well as absorption of material by the boundary. The coupling conditions for bulk and surface quantities involve parameters $K,L\in[0,\infty]$, whose choice declares whether these conditions are of Dirichlet, Robin or Neumann type. We first prove the existence of a weak solution to our model in the case $K,L\in (0,\infty)$ by means of a Faedo--Galerkin approach. For all other cases, the existence of a weak solution is then shown by means of the asymptotic limits, where $K$ and $L$ are sent to zero or to infinity, respectively. Eventually, we establish higher regularity for the phase-fields, and we prove the uniqueness of weak solutions given that the mobility functions are constant.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the well - posedness of the bulk - surface convolution Cahn - Hilliard system with dynamic boundary conditions. Specifically, the authors study a class of bulk - surface convolution Cahn - Hilliard systems with dynamic boundary conditions. Different from the classical Neumann boundary conditions, such dynamic boundary conditions allow the contact angle to change dynamically between the diffuse interface and the boundary, the contact line movement caused by convection, and the absorption of materials through the boundary. The main objective of the paper is to prove the existence of weak solutions of the model under different parameter selections, and to prove the uniqueness and higher - order regularity of weak solutions under certain assumptions. ### Main contributions of the paper 1. **Existence of weak solutions**: - For parameters \( K, L\in(0, \infty) \), the existence of weak solutions is proved by the Faedo - Galerkin method. - For other parameter cases (i.e., when \( K, L \) tend to 0 or infinity), the existence of weak solutions is proved by the asymptotic limit method. 2. **Uniqueness and regularity of weak solutions**: - The higher spatial regularity of the phase field is established. - Under the assumption of a constant mobility function, the uniqueness of weak solutions is proved. ### Importance of dynamic boundary conditions Dynamic boundary conditions allow the model to describe two - phase flow problems in practical applications more realistically, especially in the following aspects: - **Dynamic contact angle**: The contact angle can change dynamically over time, which is more reasonable in many practical applications. - **Contact line movement**: The contact line movement caused by convection is taken into account, not just the diffusion - driven movement. - **Material absorption**: Allows materials to be absorbed through the boundary, which is necessary in many practical applications. ### Mathematical model The mathematical model considered in the paper is a bulk - surface convolution Cahn - Hilliard system, and its basic equations are as follows: \[ \begin{aligned} &\partial_t\varphi+\text{div}(\varphi\mathbf{v})=\text{div}(m_\Omega(\varphi)\nabla\mu)&\text{in }Q,\\ &\mu = -\epsilon\Delta\varphi+\epsilon^{-1}F'(\varphi)&\text{in }Q,\\ &\partial_t\psi+\text{div}_\Gamma(\psi\mathbf{w})=\text{div}_\Gamma(m_\Gamma(\psi)\nabla_\Gamma\theta)-\beta m_\Omega(\varphi)\partial_n\mu&\text{on }\Sigma,\\ &\theta = -\epsilon_\Gamma\kappa\Delta_\Gamma\psi+\epsilon_\Gamma^{-1}G'(\psi)+\alpha\epsilon\partial_n\varphi&\text{on }\Sigma,\\ &\begin{cases} \epsilon K\partial_n\varphi=\alpha\psi-\varphi&\text{if }K\in[0, \infty),\\ \partial_n\varphi = 0&\text{if }K=\infty, \end{cases}&\text{on }\Sigma,\\ &\begin{cases} L m_\Omega(\varphi)\partial_n\mu=\beta\theta-\mu&\text{if }L\in[0, \infty),\\ m \end{cases} \end{aligned} \]
