Abstract:We use the folding technique to show that generalized associahedra for non-simply-laced root systems (including non-crystallographic ones) can be obtained as sections of simply-laced generalized associahedra constructed by Bazier-Matte, Chapelier-Laget, Douville, Mousavand, Thomas and Yildirim.

Abstract:Generalized associahedra are a well-studied family of polytopes associated to a finite-type cluster algebra and choice of starting cluster. We show that the generalized associahedra constructed by Padrol, Palu, Pilaud, and Plamondon, building on ideas from Arkani-Hamed, Bai, He, and Yan, can be naturally viewed as moment polytopes for an open patch of the quotient of the cluster A-variety with universal coefficients by its maximal natural torus action. We prove our result by showing that the construction of Padrol, Palu, Pilaud, and Plamondon can be understood on the basis of the way that moment polytopes behave under symplectic reduction.

Abstract:Let denote the simplicial complex of -crossing-free subsets of edges in . Here and . Jonsson (2003) proved that [neglecting the short edges that cannot be part of any -crossing], is a shellable sphere of dimension , and conjectured it to be polytopal. The same result and question arose in the work of Knutson and Miller (Adv Math 184(1):161-176, 2004) on subword complexes. Despite considerable effort, the only values of ( k , n ) for which the conjecture is known to hold are (Pilaud and Santos, Eur J Comb. 33(4):632–662, 2012. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ejc.2011.12.003) and (2, 8) (Bokowski and Pilaud, On symmetric realizations of the simplicial complex of 3-crossing-free sets of diagonals of the octagon. In: Proceedings of the 21st annual Canadian conference on computational geometry, 2009). Using ideas from rigidity theory and choosing points along the moment curve we realize as a polytope for . We also realize it as a simplicial fan for all and arbitrary k , except the pairs (3, 12) and (3, 13). Finally, we also show that for and no choice of points can realize via bar-and-joint rigidity with points along the moment curve or, more generally, via cofactor rigidity with arbitrary points in convex position.

Realizations of the Associahedron and Cyclohedron

Abstract:We describe many different realizations with integer coordinates for the associahedron (i.e. the Stasheff polytope) and for the cyclohedron (i.e. the Bott-Taubes polytope) and compare them with the permutahedron of type A and B, respectively. The coordinates are obtained by an algorithm which uses an oriented Coxeter graph of type An or Bn as the only input data and which specializes to a procedure presented by J.-L. Loday for a certain orientation of An. The described realizations have cambrian fans of type A and B as normal fans. This settles a conjecture of N. Reading for cambrian lattices of these types.

Abstract:We generalize the brick polytope of V. Pilaud and F. Santos to spherical subword complexes for finite Coxeter groups. This construction provides polytopal realizations for a certain class of subword complexes containing all cluster complexes of finite types. For the latter, the brick polytopes turn out to coincide with the known realizations of generalized associahedra, thus opening new perspectives on these constructions. This new approach yields in particular the vertex description of generalized associahedra, a Minkowski sum decomposition into Coxeter matroid polytopes, and a combinatorial description of the exchange matrix of any cluster in a finite type cluster algebra.

A canonical realization of the alt $ν$-associahedron

Abstract:Given a lattice path $\nu$, the alt $\nu$-Tamari lattice is a partial order recently introduced by Ceballos and Chenevière, which generalizes the $\nu$-Tamari lattice and the $\nu$-Dyck lattice. All these posets are defined on the set of lattice paths that lie weakly above $\nu$, and posses a rich combinatorial structure. In this paper, we study the geometric structure of these posets. We show that their Hasse diagram is the edge graph of a polytopal complex induced by a tropical hyperplane arrangement, which we call the alt $\nu$-associahedron. This generalizes the realization of $\nu$-associahedra by Ceballos, Padrol and Sarmiento. Our approach leads to an elegant construction, in terms of areas below lattice paths, which we call the canonical realization. Surprisingly, in the case of the classical associahedron, our canonical realization magically recovers Loday's ubiquitous realization, via a simple affine transformation.

Polyhedral realizations for crystal bases and Young walls of classical affine types

Abstract:For affine Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of type $A^{(1)}_{n-1}$, $B^{(1)}_{n-1}$, $C^{(1)}_{n-1}$, $D^{(1)}_{n-1}$, $A^{(2)}_{2n-2}$, $A^{(2)}_{2n-3}$ or $D^{(2)}_{n}$, let $B(\lambda)$ and $B(\infty)$ be the crystal bases of integrable highest weight representation $V(\lambda)$ and negative part $U_q^-(\mathfrak{g})$ of quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$. We consider the polyhedral realizations of crystal bases, which realize $B(\lambda)$ and $B(\infty)$ as sets of integer points of some polytopes and cones in $\mathbb{R}^{\infty}$. It is a natural problem to find explicit forms of the polytopes and cones. In this paper, we introduce pairs of truncated walls, which are defined as modifications of level $2$-Young walls and describe inequalities defining the polytopes and cones in terms of level $1$-proper Young walls and pairs of truncated walls. As an application, we also give combinatorial descriptions of $\varepsilon_k^*$-functions on $B(\infty)$ in terms of Young walls and truncated walls.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore the geometry and the arithmetic of a family of polytopal sphere packings induced by regular polytopes in any dimension. We prove that every integral polytope is crystallographic, and we show that there are 11 crystallographic regular polytopes in any dimension. After introducing the notion of Apollonian section, we determine which Platonic crystallographic packings emerge as cross-sections of the Apollonian arrangements of the regular 4-polytopes. Additionally, we compute the Möbius spectrum of every regular polytope.

Abstract:Work of Hofer--Wysocki--Zehnder has shown that many spaces of pseudoholomorphic curves that arise when studying symplectic manifolds may be described as the zero set of a polyfold Fredholm section. This framework has many analytic advantages. However the methods they develop to extract useful topological information from it are rather cumbersome. This paper develops a general construction of a finite dimensional space of multivalued perturbations of a polyfold Fredholm section such that almost all elements are regularizing. These perturbation are globally structured and explicitly described, and, in cases where the moduli space has no formal boundary, permit a transparent definition of its (rational Cech) fundamental class.

Abstract:In the framework of algebraic topology the closed sequence of 4-dimensional polyhedra(algebraic polytopes) was defined. These polytopes were determined by the second coordination sphere of 8-dimensional lattice E8. The ordered non-crystalline structure is determined by a chain of constructions of algebraic topology: an algebraic polytope, a homogeneous manifold in a 3-dimensional Euclidean space E3, locally-homogeneous manifold, locally minimal surface, one-parameter family of helicoids, bundle (cover) with a base of cell complexes, local-lattice packing of cell complexes into a substructure of E3, determined by helicoids. The formalism being developed allows one to surmount restrictions of classical crystallography and to single out a class of ordered non-crystalline structures, invariant with respect to structures determined by the lattice E8. The topological stability of such substructures is determined by their relatedness to Weierstrass' representation, as well as the condition that the instability index of the surface equals zero. Formation of such structures corresponds to lifting a configuration degeneracy, and the stability of a state - to existence of a point of bifurcation.

Hypergraph associahedra and compactifications of moduli spaces of points

Abstract:We prove that every Hassett compactification of the moduli space of weighted stable rational curves that admits both a reduction map from the Losev-Manin compactification and a reduction map to projective space is a toric variety, whose corresponding polytope is a hypergraph associahedron (also known as a nestohedron). In addition, we present an analogous result for the moduli space of labeled weighted points in affine space up to translation and scaling. These results are interconnected, and we make their relationship explicit through the concept of ``inflation" of a hypergraph associahedron.

Associative submanifolds in twisted connected sum $G_2$-manifolds

Abstract:We introduce a new method to construct closed rigid (unobstructed) associative submanifolds in the twisted connected sum $G_2$-manifolds [Kov03, KL11, CHNP15]. More precisely, we prove a gluing theorem of asymptotically cylindrical (ACyl) associative submanifolds in ACyl $G_2$-manifolds under a hypothesis that can be interpreted as a transverse Lagrangian intersection condition. This is analogous to the gluing theorem for $G_2$-instantons introduced in [SW15]. We rephrase the hypothesis in the special cases where the ACyl associative submanifolds are obtained from holomorphic curves or special Lagrangians in ACyl Calabi-Yau $3$-folds. In this way we find many new associative submanifolds which are diffeomorphic to $S^3$, $\mathbf R\mathbf P^3$ or $\mathbf R\mathbf P^3\#\mathbf R\mathbf P^3$. To lay the foundation for the gluing theorem we also study the moduli space of ACyl associative submanifolds with a natural topology. We prove that the moduli space is locally homeomorphic to the zero set of a smooth map between two finite dimensional spaces whose index depends only on the asymptotic cross section.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce geometric crystals and unipotent crystals which are algebro-geometric analogues of Kashiwara's crystal bases. Given a reductive group G, let I be the set of vertices of the Dynkin diagram of G and T be the maximal torus of G. The structure of a geometric G-crystal on an algebraic variety X consists of a rational morphism \gamma:X-->T and a compatible family e_i:G_m\times X-->X, i\in I of rational actions of the multiplicative group G_m satisfying certain braid-like relations. Such a structure induces a rational action of W on X. Quite surprisingly, many interesting rational actions of the group W come from geometric crystals. Also all the known examples of the action of W which appear in the construction of gamma-functions for the representations of ^LG in the recent work by A. Braverman and D. Kazhdan come from geometric crystals. There are many examples of positive geometric crystals on (G_m)^l, i.e., those geometric crystals for which the actions e_i and the morphism \gamma are given by positive rational expressions. To each positive geometric crystal X we associate a Kashiwara's crystal corresponding to the Langlands dual group ^LG. An emergence of ^LG in the "crystal world" was observed earlier by G. Lusztig. Another application of geometric crystals is a construction of trivialization which is an W-equivariant isomorhism X-->\gamma^{-1}(e) \times T for any geometric SL_n-crystal. Unipotent crystals are geometric analogues of normal Kashiwara crystals. They form a strict monoidal category. To any unipotent crystal built on a variety X we associate a certain gometric crystal.

Abstract:In this paper we examine four different models for the realization space of a polytope: the classical model, the Grassmannian model, the Gale transform model, and the slack variety. Respectively, they identify realizations of the polytopes with the matrix whose columns are the coordinates of their vertices, the column space of said matrix, their Gale transforms, and their slack matrices. Each model has been used to study realizations of polytopes. In this paper we establish very explicitly the maps that allow us to move between models, study their precise relationships, and combine the strengths of different viewpoints. As an illustration, we combine the compact nature of the Grassmannian model with the slack variety to obtain a reduced slack model that allows us to perform slack ideal calculations that were previously out of computational reach. These calculations allow us to answer the question of [Criado, Santos. Topological prismatoids and small simplicial spheres of large diameter. Experimental Mathematics, 1-13, 2019], about the realizability of a family of prismatoids, in general in the negative by proving the non-realizability of one of them.

On Mirković-Vilonen polytopes

Abstract:Mirković-Vilonen polytopes encode in a geometrical way the numerical data present in the Kashiwara crystal $B(\infty)$ of a semisimple group $G$. We retrieve these polytopes from the coproduct of the Hopf algebra $\mathscr O(N)$ of regular functions on a maximal unipotent subgroup $N$ of $G$. We bring attention to a remarkable behavior that the classical bases (dual canonical, dual semicanonical, Mirković-Vilonen) of $\mathscr O(N)$ manifest with respect to the extremal points of these polytopes, which extends the crystal operations. This study leans on a notion of stability for graded bialgebras.

Gorenstein-Fano polytopes and compactifications of rank 2 polyptych lattices

Abstract:The notion of polyptych lattices, introduced by Escobar, Harada, and Manon, wraps the data of a collection of lattices related by piecewise-linear bijections together into a single semi-algebraic object, equipped with its own notions of convexity and polyhedra. The main purpose of this manuscript is to construct an explicit family of polyptych lattices, and to illustrate via explicit computations the abstract theory introduced by Escobar-Harada-Manon. Specifically, we first construct a family of rank-$2$ polyptych lattices $\mathcal{M}_s$ with $2$ charts, compute their space of points, and prove that they are full and self-dual. We then give a concrete sample computation of a point-convex hull in $\mathcal{M}_s \otimes \mathbb{R}$ to illustrate that convex geometry in the polyptych lattice setting can exhibit phenomena not seen in the classical situation. We also give multiple examples of $2$-dimensional ``chart-Gorenstein-Fano'' polytopes, which give rise to pairs of mutation-related $2$-dimensional (classical) Gorenstein-Fano polytopes. Finally, we produce detropicalizations $(\mathcal{A}_s, \mathfrak{v}_s)$ of $\mathcal{M}_s$, and in the case $s=1$ where the detropicalization is a UFD, and with respect to a certain choice of PL polytope $\mathcal{P}$, we give an explicit generators-and-relations presentation of the (finitely generated) Cox ring of the compactification $X_{\mathcal{A}_s}(\mathcal{P})$ of $\mathrm{Spec}(\mathcal{A}_s)$ with respect to $\mathcal{P}$.

Abstract:A bstract Stringy canonical forms are a class of integrals that provide α′ -deformations of the canonical form of any polytopes. For generalized associahedra of finite-type cluster algebras, there exist completely rigid stringy integrals, whose configuration spaces are the so-called binary geometries, and for classical types are associated with (generalized) scattering of particles and strings. In this paper, we propose a large class of rigid stringy canonical forms for another class of polytopes, generalized permutohedra, which also include associahedra and cyclohedra as special cases (type A n and B n generalized associahedra). Remarkably, we find that the configuration spaces of such integrals are also binary geometries, which were suspected to exist for generalized associahedra only. For any generalized permutohedron that can be written as Minkowski sum of coordinate simplices, we show that its rigid stringy integral factorizes into products of lower integrals for massless poles at finite α′ , and the configuration space is binary although the u equations take a more general form than those “perfect” ones for cluster cases. Moreover, we provide an infinite class of examples obtained by degenerations of type A n and B n integrals, which have perfect u equations as well. Our results provide yet another family of generalizations of the usual string integral and moduli space, whose physical interpretations remain to be explored.

Abstract:The second author introduced 2-associahedra as a tool for investigating functoriality properties of Fukaya categories, and he conjectured that they could be realized as face posets of convex polytopes. We introduce a family of posets called categorical $n$-associahedra, which naturally extend the second author's 2-associahedra and the classical associahedra. Categorical $n$-associahedra give a combinatorial model for the poset of strata of a compactified real moduli space of a tree arrangement of affine coordinate subspaces. We construct a family of complete polyhedral fans, called velocity fans, whose coordinates encode the relative velocities of pairs of colliding coordinate subspaces, and whose face posets are the categorical $n$-associahedra. In particular, this gives the first fan realization of 2-associahedra. In the case of the classical associahedron, the velocity fan specializes to the normal fan of Loday's realization of the associahedron. For proving that the velocity fan is a fan, we first construct a cone complex of metric $n$-bracketings and then exhibit a piecewise-linear isomorphism from this complex to the velocity fan. We demonstrate that the velocity fan, which is not simplicial, admits a canonical smooth flag triangulation on the same set of rays, and we describe a second, finer triangulation which provides a new extension of the braid arrangement. We describe piecewise-unimodular maps on the velocity fan such that the image of each cone is a union of cones in the braid arrangement, and we highlight a connection to the theory of building sets and nestohedra. We explore the local iterated fiber product structure of categorical $n$-associahedra and the extent to which this structure is realized by the velocity fan. For the class of concentrated $n$-associahedra we exhibit generalized permutahedra having velocity fans as their normal fans.
