Abstract:We relate the theory of purity of a locally finitely presented category with products to the study of exact structures on the full subcategory of finitely presented objects. Properties in the context of purity are translated to properties about exact structures. We specialize to the case of a module category over an Artin algebra and show that generic modules are in one to one correspondence with particular maximal exact structures.

Abstract:We define notions of regularity and (Barr-)exactness for 2-categories. In fact, we define three notions of regularity and exactness, each based on one of the three canonical ways of factorising a functor in Cat: as (surjective on objects, injective on objects and fully faithful), as (bijective on objects, fully faithful), and as (bijective on objects and full, faithful). The correctness of our notions is justified using the theory of lex colimits introduced by Lack and the second author. Along the way, we develop an abstract theory of regularity and exactness relative to a kernel--quotient factorisation, extending earlier work of Street and others.

Abstract:For various 2-Calabi-Yau categories $\mathscr{C}$ for which the stack of objects $\mathfrak{M}$ has a good moduli space $p\colon\mathfrak{M}\rightarrow \mathcal{M}$, we establish purity of the mixed Hodge module complex $p_{!}\underline{\mathbb{Q}}_{\mathfrak{M}}$. We do this by using formality in 2CY categories, along with étale neighbourhood theorems for stacks, to prove that the morphism $p$ is modelled étale-locally by the semisimplification morphism from the stack of modules of a preprojective algebra. Then via the integrality theorem in cohomological Donaldson-Thomas theory we prove purity of $p_{!}\underline{\mathbb{Q}}_{\mathfrak{M}}$. It follows that the Beilinson-Bernstein-Deligne-Gabber decomposition theorem for the constant sheaf holds for the morphism $p$, despite the possibly very singular and stacky nature of $\mathfrak{M}$. We use this to define cuspidal cohomology for $\mathfrak{M}$, which is conjecturally a complete space of generators for the BPS algebra associated to $\mathscr{C}$. We prove purity of the Borel-Moore homology of the moduli stack $\mathfrak{M}$, provided its good moduli space $\mathcal{M}$ is projective, or admits a suitable contracting $\mathbb{C}^*$-action. In particular, when $\mathfrak{M}$ is the moduli stack of Gieseker-semistable sheaves on a K3 surface, this proves a conjecture of Halpern-Leistner. We use these results to moreover prove purity for several stacks of coherent sheaves that do not admit a good moduli space. Without the usual assumption that $r$ and $d$ are coprime, we prove that the Borel-Moore homology of the stack of semistable degree $d$ rank $r$ Higgs sheaves is pure and carries a perverse filtration with respect to the Hitchin base, generalising the usual perverse filtration for the Hitchin system to the case of singular stacks of Higgs sheaves.

Purity for Perfectoidness

Abstract:There has been a long-standing question about whether being perfectoid for an algebra is local in the analytic topology. We provide affirmative answers for the algebras (e.g., over $\overline{\mathbb{Z}_p}$) whose spectra are inverse limits of semi-stable affine schemes. In fact, we established a valuative criterion for such an algebra being perfectoid, saying that it suffices to check the perfectoidness of the stalks of the associated Riemann-Zariski space. Combining with Gabber-Ramero's computation of differentials of valuation rings, we obtain a differential criterion for perfectoidness. We also establish a purity result for perfectoidness when the limit preserves generic points of the special fibres.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $S \subseteq R$ be a multiplicative subset. We introduce and study the concept of $S$-purity based on the notion of $S$-strongly flat modules. The class of $S$-pure injective modules will be studied. We demonstrate that this class is enveloping and explore its closedness under extension. The concept of purity is closely connected to the existence of phantom maps. So we will delve into the study of the $S$-phantom morphisms. We will establish that the $S$-phantom ideal is a precovering ideal and examine the situations where it becomes a covering ideal. Finally, in the last section, we will investigate an ideal version of the `Optimistic Conjecture', raised by Positselski and Slávik.

$F$-purity and the $F$-pure threshold as invariants of linkage

Abstract:The generic link of an unmixed radical ideal is radical (in fact, prime). We show that the squarefreeness of the initial ideal and $F$-purity are, however, not preserved along generic links. On the flip side, for several important cases in liaison theory, including generic height three Gorenstein ideals and the maximal minors of a generic matrix, we show that the squarefreeness of the initial ideal, $F$-purity, and the $F$-pure threshold are each preserved along generic links by identifying a property of such ideals which propagates along generic links. We use this property to establish the $F$-regularity of the generic links of such ideals. Finally, we study the $F$-pure threshold of the generic residual intersections of a complete intersection ideal and answer a related question of Kim--Miller--Niu.

Abstract:We introduce enriched notions of purity depending on the left class $\mathcal E$ of a factorization system on the base $\mathcal V$ of enrichment. Ordinary purity is given by the class of surjective mappings in the category of sets. Under specific assumptions, covering enrichment over quantale-valued metric spaces, $\omega$-complete posets, and quasivarieties, we characterize the $(\lambda,\mathcal E)$-injectivity classes of locally presentable $\mathcal V$-categories in terms of closure under a class of limits, $\lambda$-filtered colimits, and $(\lambda,\mathcal E)$-pure subobjects.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a regular scheme over $\textrm{Spec}(\mathbb{Z}[1/p])$ where $p$ is prime. Let $i:Y\to X$ be a closed subscheme of pure codimension $r$. Let $n$ be a natural number prime to $p$. Let $\Lambda$ be a finite $\mathbb{Z}/n$-module over $X$. In this case, the absolute purity conjectured by Grothendieck and proved by Gabber states that \[ Ri^! \Lambda\cong \Lambda_Y(-r)[-2r]\in D_{\textrm{ét}}(Y,\Lambda) \] For the $n=p^m$-case, a dualizing sheaf was proposed by Milne \cite{MilneValuesOfZeta}, namely the logarithmic de Rham-Witt sheaves $\nu_m(r)$. But this doesn't work for all degrees for the étale cohomology. It is however conjectured that this works for the tame cohomology. In this paper we make this work following the proof of Milne in loc. cit. by replacing étale by tame cohomology and assuming resolution of singularities in positive characteristic. We obtain the following isomorphism \[ Ri^! \nu_m(n)\cong \nu_m(n-r)[-r]. \]

Introduction to Anderson t-motives: a survey

Abstract:This is a survey on Anderson t-motives -- high-dimensional generalizations of Drinfeld modules. They are the functional field analogs of abelian varieties with multiplication by an imaginary quadratic field. We describe their lattices, their groups $H^1$ and $H_1$, their tensor products, the duality functor and the duality theorem, endomorphisms of Drinfeld modules in finite characteristic, and a type of their L-functions. Further, we introduce the notion of affine equations, $T$-divisible $\Bbb F_q[[T]]$-modules, holonomic sequences in the functional field case, and some other notions (to be continued). Many examples of explicit calculations are given, some elementary research problems are stated.

Non-abelian Anderson A-modules: Comparison isomorphisms and Galois representations

Abstract:In this manuscript, we consider non-abelian Anderson $A$-modules $E$ (of generic characteristic). The main results are on the structure of their motives, and on comparison isomorphisms between their cohomological realizations. In the center of these comparison isomorphisms, there is the space of special functions $\mathfrak{sf}(E)$ as defined by Gazda and the author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1903.07302" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1903.07302">arXiv:1903.07302</a>. We also provide a generalization of Anderson's result on the equivalence of uniformizability of the Anderson module and rigid analytic triviality of its associated motive. We contribute results that are new even in the case of abelian Anderson modules. For every non-zero prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ of $A$, the relation of the space of special functions to the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic Tate module provides a way to obtain $\mathfrak{p}^{n+1}$-torsion as special values of hyperderivatives of these special functions. Using this result for uniformizable Anderson modules, we are able to describe the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic Galois representation via a rigid analytic trivialization, and hence give a direct link between the image of the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic Galois representation and the motivic Galois group. This generalizes results of various authors.

Abstract:We prove a purity property in telescopically localized algebraic K K -theory of ring spectra: For n ≥ 1 n\geq 1 , the T ( n ) T(n) -localization of K ( R ) K(R) only depends on the T ( 0 ) ⊕ ⋯ ⊕ T ( n ) T(0)\oplus \dots \oplus T(n) -localization of R R . This complements a classical result of Waldhausen in rational K K -theory. Combining our result with work of Clausen–Mathew–Naumann–Noel, one finds that L T ( n ) K ( R ) L_{T(n)}K(R) in fact only depends on the T ( n − 1 ) ⊕ T ( n ) T(n-1)\oplus T(n) -localization of R R , again for n ≥ 1 n \geq 1 . As consequences, we deduce several vanishing results for telescopically localized K K -theory, as well as an equivalence between K ( R ) K(R) and T C ( τ ≥ 0 R ) TC(\tau _{\geq 0} R) after T ( n ) T(n) -localization for n ≥ 2 n\geq 2 .

Abstract:Our goal is to study $p$-adic local systems on a rigid-analytic variety with semistable formal model. We prove that such a local system is semistable if and only if so are its restrictions to the points corresponding to the irreducible components of the special fiber. For this, the main body of the paper concerns analytic prismatic $F$-crystals on the absolute logarithmic prismatic site of a semistable $p$-adic log formal scheme. Analyzing Breuil-Kisin log prisms, we obtain a prismatic purity theorem and deduce the above purity theorem for semistable local systems.

Abstract:A comprehensive physically realizable space, namely, the overall purity index-components of purity (PI4D-CP) space is proposed for the characterization of the depolarization caused by random (or deterministic) media. The overall purity index (PI4D) is obtained via indices of polarimetric purity which arc incurred by the eigenvalues of the covariance matrix, whereas the components of purity (CP) are the functions of the elements of a Mueller matrix. On the one hand, the proposed space is useful in studying the depolarization caused by material media and on the other hand, it provides information on the diattenuation-polarizance properties of a Mueller matrix. Abstract:Let $Q$ be a finite quiver without loops and $\mathcal{Q}_{\alpha}$ be the Lusztig category for any dimension vector $\alpha$. The purpose of this paper is to prove that all Frobenius eigenvalues of the $i$-th cohomology $\mathcal{H}^i(\mathcal{L})|_x$ for a simple perverse sheaf $\mathcal{L}\in \mathcal{Q}_{\alpha}$ and $x\in \mathbb{E}_{\alpha}^{F^n}=\mathbb{E}_{\alpha}(\mathbb{F}_{q^n})$ are equal to $(\sqrt{q^n})^{i}$ as a conjecture given by Schiffmann (\cite{Schiffmann2}). As an application, we prove the existence of a class of Hall polynomials.

Abstract:We construct a morphism of spectra from $\mathrm{KO}((q))/\mathrm{TMF}$ to $\Sigma^{-20}I_{\mathbb{Z}} \mathrm{TMF}$, which we show to be an equivalence and to implement the Anderson self-duality of $\mathrm{TMF}$. This morphism is then used to define another morphism from $\mathrm{TMF}$ to $\Sigma^{-20}I_{\mathbb{Z}}(\mathrm{MSpin}/\mathrm{MString})$, which induces a differential geometric pairing and captures not only the invariant of Bunke and Naumann but also a finer invariant which detects subtle Anderson dual pairs of elements of $\pi_\bullet\mathrm{TMF}$. Our analysis leads to conjectures concerning certain self-dual vertex operator superalgebras and some specific torsion classes in $\pi_\bullet\mathrm{TMF}$. This paper is written as an article in mathematics, but much of the discussions in it was originally motivated by a study in heterotic string theory. As such, we have a separate appendix for physicists, in which the contents of the paper are summarized and translated into a language more amenable to them. In physics terms, our result allows us to compute the discrete part of the Green-Schwarz coupling of the $B$-field in a couple of subtle hitherto-unexplored cases.
