Abstract:Individual subpulses of pulsars are regarded as the basic emission components, providing invaluable information to understand the radio emission process in the pulsar magnetosphere. Nevertheless, subpulses are overlapped with each other along the rotation phase for most pulsars, making it difficult to study the statistical properties of subpulses. Among the pulsars observed by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope, PSR B1916+14 has a large number of isolated well-resolved subpulses in the high time resolution observations, having a typical width of 0.15 ms and a high linear polarization. We find that the number distribution of subpulses contributes dominantly to the mean profile. According to the emission geometry, these emission units come from a region roughly 155 km above the polar cap in the pulsar magnetosphere, and the length scale of basic emission units is approximately 120 m. The deviations of polarization position angles for these single subpulses from the standard S-shaped curve are closely related to their fractional linear and circular polarization, and the large deviations tend to come from drifting subpulses.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on the following aspects: 1. **Research on the characteristics of a single sub - pulse**: By using FAST (Five - hundred - meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) to conduct high - time - resolution observations of PSR B1916 + 14, the paper aims to study in detail the characteristics of the resolvable single sub - pulses in this pulsar. These sub - pulses are considered as the basic units in the radio emission process of pulsars and are of great value for understanding the radio emission process in the pulsar magnetosphere. 2. **Polarization properties of sub - pulses**: The paper pays special attention to the polarization properties of a single sub - pulse, including the intensity and distribution of linear polarization and circular polarization. Through the research on these properties, we can have a more in - depth understanding of the radiation mechanism of pulsars and their propagation processes in the magnetosphere. 3. **Sub - pulse drift phenomenon**: The paper also explores the sub - pulse drift phenomenon in PSR B1916 + 14, especially the drift dynamics in \(C_2\) and \(C_3\) components. This phenomenon may be related to the plasma environment in the pulsar magnetosphere and is helpful to reveal the physical conditions inside the pulsar. 4. **Deviation of polarization position angle**: The paper analyzes the deviation between the polarization position angle (PA) of a single sub - pulse and the standard S - shaped curve, and explores the relationship between these deviations and the fractions of linear polarization and circular polarization. This research is helpful to understand the complex physical processes in the pulsar magnetosphere, especially the influence of the plasma environment on the radio wave propagation. In summary, the main objective of this paper is to analyze in detail the characteristics of single sub - pulses of PSR B1916 + 14, especially their polarization properties and drift behaviors, through high - resolution observation data, so as to provide new insights for further understanding the radio emission mechanism of pulsars and magnetosphere physics.
