On the upper and lower bound orders of almost prime triples

Abstract:A Hardy-Littlewood triple is a 3-tuple of integers with the form $(n, n+2, n+6)$. In this paper, we study Hardy-Littlewood triples of the form $(p, P_{a}, P_{b})$ and improve the upper and lower bound orders of it, where $p$ is a prime and $P_{r}$ has at most $r$ prime factors. Our new results generalize and improve the previous results.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. For nontrivial proper subsets $A,B$ of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ of cardinality $s,t$, respectively, we count the number $r(A,B,B)$ of additive triples, namely elements of the form $(a, b, a+b)$ in $A \times B \times B$. For given $s,t$, what is the spectrum of possible values for $r(A,B,B)$? In the special case $A=B$, the additive triple is called a Schur triple. Various authors have given bounds on the number $r(A,A,A)$ of Schur triples, and shown that the lower and upper bound can each be attained by a set $A$ that is an interval of $s$ consecutive elements of $\mathbb{Z}_p$. However, there are values of $p,s$ for which not every value between the lower and upper bounds is attainable. We consider here the general case where $A,B$ can be distinct. We use Pollard's generalization of the Cauchy-Davenport Theorem to derive bounds on the number $r(A,B,B)$ of additive triples. In contrast to the case $A=B$, we show that every value of $r(A,B,B)$ from the lower bound to the upper bound is attainable: each such value can be attained when $B$ is an interval of $t$ consecutive elements of $\mathbb{Z}_p$.

Abstract:For two relatively prime square-free positive integers $a$ and $b$, we study integers of the form $a p+b P_{2}$ and give a new lower bound for it, where $a p$ and $b P_{2}$ are both square-free, $p$ denotes a prime, and $P_{2}$ has at most two prime factors. We also consider some special cases where $p$ is small, $p$ and $P_2$ are within short intervals, $p$ and $P_2$ are within arithmetical progressions and a Goldbach-type upper bound result. Our new results generalize and improve the previous results.

Abstract:The paper studies a new approach to estimating the distribution of prime tuples. This approach uses analytical sieve methods and the Chinese remainder theorem. It is proved that the expected number of prime tuples, not exceeding some natural value, in the Hardy-Littlewood conjecture is asymptotically equal to the actual number of tuples. This approach is generalized to the number of prime values of polynomials in the Bateman-Horn conjecture.

Abstract:Zhao (2003a) first established a congruence for any odd prime p>3, S(1,1,1;p)≡−2Bp−3 (mod p), which holds when p=3 evidently. In this paper, we consider finite triple harmonic sum S(α,β,γ,p) (mod p) is considered for all positive integers α,β,γ. We refer to w=α+β+γ as the weight of the sum, and show that if w is even, S(α,β,γ,p)≡0 (mod p) for p≥w+3; if w is odd S(α,γ,γ,p)≡rBp−w (mod p) for p≥w, here r is an explicit rational number independent of p. A congruence of Catalan number is obtained as a special case.

Abstract:We establish quantitative lower bounds for the number of primes $p$ such that, for an odd integer $b$, $p - b \leq N$ and $p - b = 2^{k(N) + m} P_k \quad \text{for some } m \geq 0$, where $P_k$ is a product of at most $k$ primes other than 2, for $k \geq 2$. These results hold under various upper bounds for $2^{k(N)}$ depending on $k $, specifically when $2^{k(N)} \leq N^a$ for different values of $a$. Our approach combines techniques from Chen's theorem, weighted sieves, and Selberg's lower bound sieve, as well as results on primes in arithmetic progressions with large power factor moduli.

Abstract:Let $x$ denote a sufficiently large integer. We give a new upper bound for the number of integers $n \leqslant x$ which $n^2 +1$ has a primitive divisor, improving previous result of Harman. This improvement comes from Pascadi's recent work on the largest prime factor of $n^2 +1$.

Abstract:Servais and Grün used results about linear support for the prime number sequence to obtain upper bounds on the smallest prime in odd perfect numbers. This was extended by Cohen and Hendy who proved that for every there exists an integer such that for any sequence of odd primes, and found minimal values of for , and conjectured minimal values for . We give a new proof of the existence of and the values for . We also show that if we assume that the second Hardy-Littlewood conjecture, for , is true, then we can in a finite number of steps determine numbers, , that give quite close bounds for the values of , namely , and determine the values of for . We also consider the question of whether the values of can be replaced by smaller numbers if we assume that . We will show that if we assume that the first Hardy-Littlewood conjecture is true, then we can determine the minimum such values, , for . We also determine some lower bounds for for . It is well-known that the two Hardy-Littlewood conjectures are mutually exclusive, but we never use both conjectures simultaneously. These results give us the upper bound on the smallest prime in odd perfect numbers, where is the number of distinct primes dividing the odd perfect number. This bound was also found by Cohen and Hendy, but we improve the constants .

On the Brun--Titchmarsh theorem

Abstract:The classical Brun--Titchmarsh theorem gives an upper bound, which is of correct order of magnitude in the full range, for the number of primes $p\leqslant x$ satisfying $p\equiv a\bmod q$. We strength this inequality for $\log q/\log x$ in different ranges, improving upon previous works by Motohashi, Goldfeld, Iwaniec, Friedlander and Iwaniec, and Maynard for general or special moduli. In particular, we obtain a Burgess-like constant in the full range $q<x^{1/2-}.$ The proof is based on various estimates for character and exponential sums, by appealing to arithmetic exponent pairs and bilinear forms with algebraic trace functions from $\ell$-adic cohomology, and sums of Kloosterman sums from spectral theory of automorphic forms, as well as large value theorem for Dirichlet polynomials due to Huxley.

Coprime-Universal Quadratic Forms

Abstract:Given a prime $p>3$, we characterize positive-definite integral quadratic forms that are coprime-universal for $p$, i.e. representing all positive integers coprime to $p$. This generalizes the $290$-Theorem by Bhargava and Hanke and extends later works by Rouse ($p=2$) and De Benedetto and Rouse ($p=3$). When $p=5,23,29,31$, our results are conditional on the coprime-universality of specific ternary forms. We prove this assumption under GRH (for Dirichlet and modular $L$-functions), following a strategy introduced by Ono and Soundararajan, together with some more elementary techniques borrowed from Kaplansky and Bhargava. Finally, we discuss briefly the problem of representing all integers in an arithmetic progression.

Abstract:In this paper we study a certain kind of generalized linear Diophantine problem of Frobenius. Let $ a_1, a_2, \dots, a_l $ be positive integers such that their greatest common divisor is one. For a nonnegative integer $ p $, denote the $ p $-Frobenius number by $ g_p (a_1, a_2, \dots, a_l) $, which is the largest integer that can be represented at most $ p $ ways by a linear combination with nonnegative integer coefficients of $ a_1, a_2, \dots, a_l $. When $ p = 0 $, the $ 0 $-Frobenius number is the classical Frobenius number. When $ l = 2 $, the $ p $-Frobenius number is explicitly given. However, when $ l = 3 $ and even larger, even in special cases, it is not easy to give the Frobenius number explicitly. It is even more difficult when $ p > 0 $, and no specific example has been known. However, very recently, we have succeeded in giving explicit formulas for the case where the sequence is of triangular numbers [1] or of repunits [2] for the case where $ l = 3 $. In this paper, we show the explicit formula for the Fibonacci triple when $ p > 0 $. In addition, we give an explicit formula for the $ p $-Sylvester number, that is, the total number of nonnegative integers that can be represented in at most $ p $ ways. Furthermore, explicit formulas are shown concerning the Lucas triple.

Abstract:Let $ N $ denote a sufficiently large real number. In this paper, we prove that for $ 1 < c < \frac{104349}{77419} $, $ c\neq\frac{4}{3} $, for almost all real numbers $ T\in(N, 2N] $ (in the sense of Lebesgue measure), the Diophantine inequality $ |p_1^c+p_2^c-T| < T^{-\frac{9}{10c}\left(\frac{104349}{77419}-c\right)} $ is solvable in primes $ p_1, p_2 $. In addition, it is proved that the Diophantine inequality $ |p_1^c+p_2^c+p_3^c+p_4^c-N| < N^{-\frac{9}{10c}\left(\frac{104349}{77419}-c\right)} $ is solvable in primes $ p_1, p_2, p_3, p_4 $. This result constitutes a refinement upon that of Li and Cai.

Abstract:We prove asymptotic results for the singular series associated to the distribution of three primes. Assuming a quantitative version of Hardy and Littlewood's conjecture on prime 3-tuples, we deduce an asymptotic formula related to the joint distribution of three primes. This improves recent results of Kuperberg and completes results by Montgomery and Soundararajan. Following the Montgomery and Soundararajan approach, we derive conjectural applications to the distribution of primes in short intervals.

Abstract:For a fixed quadratic irreducible polynomial f with no fixed prime factors at prime arguments, we prove that there exist infinitely many primes p such that f(p) has at most 4 prime factors, improving a classical result of Richert who requires 5 in place of 4. Abstract:Let $p\geq3$ be a large prime and let $n(p)\geq2$ denotes the least quadratic nonresidue modulo $p$. This note sharpens the standard upper bound of the least quadratic nonresidue from the unconditional upper bound $n(p)\ll p^{1/4\sqrt{e}+\varepsilon}$ to the conjectured upper bound $n(p)\ll (\log p)^{1+\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon>0$ is a small number, unconditionally. This improvement breaks the exponential upper bound barrier.
