Abstract:The investigation of high-temperature superconductors under high magnetic fields is one of the most important topics in condensed matter physics. For YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_7$ (YBCO), the measurements of magnetoresistance under a high magnetic field are technically challenging because the required magnetic field ($B$) is 100 T class. The low temperature (from 52 to 150 K) magnetoresistance is measured in optimally-doped YBCO thin films under the condition $B$$\parallel$CuO$_2$-plane up to 103 T by employing the single-turn coil technique and a radio frequency reflection method. The electrical resistivity $\rho$ exhibits $B$-linear behavior in the normal phase in the high magnetic field region. The field slope coefficient $\beta$ (=$d\rho/dB$) becomes converged at low temperatures. The convergency of $\beta$ below $T_c$ indicates the field-induced strange metal phase, which is determined by the quantum critical fluctuation at high magnetic fields. The $\beta$ value difference under the different directions of the magnetic field suggests the strong anisotropy in quantum critical fluctuations in the strange metal phase of YBCO.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is how the quantum critical fluctuations of magnetic anisotropy affect the resistivity behavior in the high - temperature superconductor YBa₂Cu₃O₇ (YBCO) under high - magnetic - field conditions of up to 100 teslas (T). Specifically, by measuring the change in magnetoresistance (MR) of YBCO thin films with magnetic - field intensity when the magnetic - field direction is parallel to the CuO₂ plane at different temperatures, the researchers explored the linear magnetic - field - dependent behavior of YBCO after entering the normal phase under the action of high magnetic fields and the relationship between this behavior and quantum critical fluctuations. ### Core problems of the paper: 1. **Magnetoresistance behavior under high magnetic fields**: Study the magnetoresistance (MR) characteristics of YBCO under high magnetic fields, especially the behavior when the magnetic - field intensity exceeds 100 T. 2. **Influence of quantum critical fluctuations**: Explore the influence of quantum critical fluctuations on the resistivity behavior of YBCO under high magnetic fields, especially the origin of the linear magnetic - field - dependent behavior (B - linear behavior). 3. **Anisotropic quantum critical fluctuations**: Analyze the magnetoresistance behavior in different magnetic - field directions (parallel and perpendicular to the CuO₂ plane) to reveal the anisotropic characteristics of quantum critical fluctuations. ### Specific research methods: - **Experimental samples**: Optimally doped YBCO thin films were used, with a critical temperature \(T_c\) of approximately 89 K. - **Magnetic - field generation**: A single - turn coil technique was used to generate pulsed magnetic fields of up to 103 T. - **Measurement methods**: The magnetoresistance was measured using the radio - frequency reflection method (RF reflection method), which can effectively avoid mechanical damage caused by strong magnetic fields. - **Data analysis**: By analyzing the field - slope parameter \(\beta=\frac{d\rho}{dB}\) of the magnetoresistance curve, the variation law of it with temperature and magnetic field was studied. ### Main findings: - **Linear magnetic - field - dependent behavior**: In the high - magnetic - field region, the resistivity of YBCO exhibits a linear magnetic - field - dependent behavior, which is related to quantum critical fluctuations. - **Convergence of the field - slope parameter**: At low temperatures, the field - slope parameter \(\beta\) converges, indicating that the system has entered the strange - metal phase dominated by quantum critical fluctuations. - **Anisotropic characteristics**: There are significant differences in the \(\beta\) values in different magnetic - field directions, indicating that quantum critical fluctuations have strong anisotropy in the strange - metal phase. ### Conclusion: This study reveals the close relationship between the magnetoresistance behavior of YBCO under high magnetic fields and quantum critical fluctuations, and discovers the anisotropic characteristics of quantum critical fluctuations. These results provide important clues for further understanding the strange - metal phase in high - temperature superconductors.
