Abstract:Cervical cancer (CC) continues to be a significant global health issue, which in part can be attributed to disparities in access to CC screening services. This study aims to conduct a trend of CC in Kazakhstan and to compare attitudes towards the screening program between women living in urban and rural areas. In the first stage, we conducted a trend study of CC indicators in Kazakhstan using official statistics. In the second stage, a cross-sectional study was conducted using a structured questionnaire to assess adherence to screening. The trend study reveals a decline in cervical cancer mortality rates (from 7.15 to 5.93 per 100,000 female inhabitants) over the period studied, while the incidence remains stable (from 18.51 to 19.38 per 100,000 female inhabitants). Regional variations in Period Prevalence rates were observed. Significant differences were found in screening participation rates between urban n = 41 (74%) and rural n = 23 (38%) women, p < 0.001, as well as awareness of the screening program (urban: n = 15 (27%), rural: n = 35 (58%), p < 0.001). The trend study highlights a decrease in cervical cancer mortality rates over the specified period, accompanied by a consistent incidence rate. Additionally, regional disparities in period prevalence rates of cervical cancer were observed. The primary factor contributing to the low adherence of rural women to screening was found to be a lack of awareness regarding the screening program. Therefore, increasing awareness about the importance of screening is crucial for improving adherence rates among rural women in Kazakhstan.

Abstract:Background: Brain and other central nervous system (CNS) tumors represent almost 3% of all new cancer cases worldwide and comprise a heterogeneous group of tumors with varying epidemiologic and clinical characteristics. The aim of this study is to present the distribution and trends in brain and other CNS cancer incidence in Golestan, Iran during a 10-year period. Methods: Data on primary brain and other CNS cancers diagnosed between 2004 and 2013 were obtained from the Golestan population-based cancer registry (GPCR) dataset. We computed age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) per 100000 personyears. In order to assess changes in incidence over time, we calculated the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to detect significant trends. Results: Over the 10-year period (2004-2013), the incidence of brain and other CNS cancer was observed to increase for all ages (EAPC: 1.13, 95% CI: -6.06, 8.87). After 2008, the trends appear to have stabilized. Incidence rates were higher in males than females (ratio: 1.2) and glioblastoma was the most common tumor subtype (15.1% of all malignant tumors). Conclusion: Trends and patterns in the burden of brain and other CNS cancer require careful monitoring alongside future research to increase our understanding of potential risk factors.
Burden of heart failure in Kazakhstan: data from the unified national healthcare system 2014-2021

Abstract:Abstract Background Heart failure (HF) affected 64.3 million people worldwide and contributed to 9.9 million years lived with disability globally in 2017. Despite its global relevance, there is a lack of comprehensive statistics on the prevalence, incidence, and burden of HF in developing Central Asian countries. This study aims to fill the gap and present the data for Kazakhstan, the largest Central Asian country. Methods HF cases were identified through the Unified National Electronic Healthcare System records for 2014-2021 using the appropriate ICD-10 codes. Descriptive and survival analyses were used to present demographics, incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates. The calculation of DALYs is done according to the WHO methods. The information on comorbid conditions based on respective ICD-10 codes was collected by merging the databases using unique deidentifying patient numbers. Results During the observation period between 2014-2021 years, 501,663 patients with HF were identified, of them 52% were females, 86% were older than 50 years of age, and 58% were of Kazakh ethnicity. Hypertension, history of cerebrovascular diseases, and myocardial infarction were present in 40%, 34%, and 22% of the cohort, respectively. The age and sex-specific incidence show that women have higher incidence before 30 years of age compared to men. In addition, incidence rates for both sexes and all age categories decreased in 2021 compared to 2014. The prevalence dramatically increased from 4393 people per million population (PMP) to 22,088 PMP, while mortality rates changed from 367 to 721 PMP during the observation period. In 2021, 2,964,062 age and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were lost due to HF in Kazakhstan. More than 2 million DALYs belong to years of life lost (YLLs). Conclusions The DALYs show high economic and social loss due to high mortality among patients. Healthcare policymakers should prioritize the enhancement of cardiac services and the mitigation of its risk factors. Key messages • This study highlights the high burden of heart failure in Kazakhstan, with over 2 million DALYs lost in 2021 alone. Healthcare policymakers must prioritize cardiac services and risk factor reduction. • Lack of comprehensive data on HF in Central Asia made it difficult to tackle the burden. This study fills this gap, presenting valuable information for policymakers to reduce social and economic loss.

Abstract:Background This study aimed to evaluate the global incidence, mortality, associated risk factors, and temporal trends of central nervous system (CNS) cancer by sex, age, and country. Methods We extracted incidence and mortality of CNS cancer from the GLOBOCAN (2020), Cancer Incidence in Five Continents series I-X, WHO mortality database, the Nordic Cancer Registries, and the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program. We searched the Global Health data exchanges for the prevalence of its associated risk factors. We tested the trends by Average Annual Percentage Change (AAPC) from Joinpoint regression analysis with 95% confidence intervals in different age groups. Results The age-standardized rates (ASRs) of CNS cancer incidence and mortality were 3.5 and 2.8 per 100,000 globally. Southern Europe (ASR = 6.0) and Western Asia (ASR = 4.2) had the highest incidence and mortality, respectively. The incidence was associated with Human Development Index, Gross Domestics Products per capita, prevalence of traumatic brain injuries, occupational carcinogens exposure, and mobile phone use at the country level. There was an overall stable and mixed trend in the CNS cancer burden. However, increasing incidence was observed in younger male population from five countries, with Slovakia (AAPC = 5.40; 95% CI 1.88, 9.04; P = .007) reporting the largest increase. Conclusions While the overall global trends of cancer have been largely stable, significant increasing trends were found in the younger male population. The presence of some higher-HDI countries with increasing mortality suggested an ample scope for further research and exploration of the reasons behind these epidemiological trends.
Epidemiological distribution of primary central nervous system tumors in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia: a local registry from neuroscience-affiliated centers

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: Central nervous system (CNS) tumors are a major and growing global healthcare challenge. Western Saudi Arabia has an inconsistent data registry; therefore, the epidemiology of CNS tumors is unclear across the country. This study is aimed to assemble the epidemiological matrix of CNS tumors in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia.METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed using clinical data obtained from 3 neuroscience centers in Western Saudi Arabia in the period 2014-2019. The sample size included 663 adult and pediatric cases from the local and expatriate populations diagnosed with CNS tumors. The distributions of age, sex, clinical presentation, tumor location, type of surgery, histological subtype, genetic characteristics, and recurrence rate were explored.RESULTS: The analysis included 500 adult cases and 163 pediatric cases up to 18 years of age with a male-to-female ratio of 1.16. The mean age at diagnosis was 38.0±22.6 years. The supratentorium was the most common location (n=515, 77.7%). Most patients presented with headache (n=298, 44.9%), followed by a focal neurological deficit (19.9%). The most common primary CNS tumor was glioblastoma (n=234, 35.3%), followed by meningioma (n=100, 15.1%). The recurrence rate after surgery was estimated to be 40.9% among all CNS tumors.CONCLUSIONS: This is the first tumor registry of Western Province of Saudi Arabia that describes the distribution of primary CNS tumors and highlights their epidemiological matrix. Several incidence trends in terms of histological type, age group, sex, location, and recurrence were determined, and some genetic characteristics were recognized.

Abstract:Background: We aimed to study the rate and trends of the incidence of chronic cardiovascular diseases in urban and rural areas of the northern regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) from 2015 to 2020. Methods: The retrospective data were analyzed using modern methods of biomedical statistics. We used the Electronic Register of Dispensary Patients (2015-2020), where we conducted a retrospective study and trend calculations. The study included patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases (CVD) (according to the International Classifier of Diseases-10, the following nosologies were identified: I25 chronic coronary heart disease and its nosological forms (I25.0-I25.9), and patients by age categories, consisting of dispensary registration in polyclinics of the northern region of the RK. Results: For 2015 - 2020 in the northern region (urban and rural) of RK, 12,315 patients were registered, who were on dispensary records for the chronic CVD. This amounted to 87.3% of urban residents, and 12.7% of rural residents. The share of patients with chronic CVD in the northern region of the republic by age groups had a bimodal growth pattern with the first peak at the age of 60-74 (40.4%) and the second - at the age of 45-59 (37.7%). Conclusion: This study notes an increase in chronic CVD, both in urban and rural areas of the northern region of the RK. This once again proves the need for the development, implementation and use of modern tools in the provision of medical services to cardiological patients at the outpatient level, taking into account the characteristics of the northern regions of our country.

Abstract:Globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death, with a growing burden also observed in Kazakhstan. This study evaluates the burden of common cancers in Almaty, Kazakhstan's major city, from 2017 to 2021, utilizing data from the Information System of the Ministry of Health. In Kazakhstan, most common cancers among men include lung, stomach, and prostate cancer, while breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers are predominant among women. Employing measures like disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), we found that selected cancer types accounted for a total DALY burden of 25,016.60 in 2021, with mortality contributing more than disability (95.2% vs. 4.7%) with the ratio of non-fatal to fatal outcomes being 1.4 times higher in women than in men. The share of non-fatal burden (YLD) proportion within DALYs increased for almost all selected cancer types, except stomach and cervical cancer over the observed period in Almaty. Despite the overall increase in cancer burden observed during the time period, a downward trend in specific cancers suggests the efficacy of implemented cancer control strategies. Comparison with global trends highlights the significance of targeted interventions. This analysis underscores the need for continuous comprehensive cancer control strategies in Almaty and Kazakhstan, including vaccination against human papillomavirus, stomach cancer screening programs, and increased cancer awareness initiatives.

Abstract:The national cancer registries in Japan have started since 2016 and the actual number of cancer patients in including primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors in Japan was revealed. Average number of primary CNS tumors in 2016-2019 was 29,492 and the crude incidence rate per 100,000 people (CIR) was 23.30. Malignant and benign CNS tumors was 6,696 (22.7%) and 22,796 (77.3%) and each CIR was 5.29 and 18.00, respectively. Among 29,492 tumors, 10,537 (35.7%) meningioma, 5,217 (17.7%) pituitary adenoma, 4,537 (15.4%) neuroepithelial tumor, 2,730 (9.3%) neurinoma and 1,166 (4.0%) primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) were reported. Regarding to malignant brain tumors, 2,071 glioblastoma, 362 astrocytoma grade II, 390 anaplastic astrocytoma grade III, 138 pilocytic astrocytoma,182 oligodendroglioma grade II, 154 anaplastic oligodendroglioma grade III, 140 ependymal tumors, 128 embryonal tumors including 91 medulloblastoma, 211 germ cell tumor (GCT) were found. CIR of neuroepithelial tumor, glioblastoma, PCNSL, embryonal tumors and GCT were 3.64, 1.68, 0.93, 0.10 and 0.17, respectively. According to the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States (CBTRUS) (2016-2020), CIR in the US was 26.73, and age-adjusted incidence rates of primary CNS tumors per 100,000 population in the US based on the US population in 2000 (AIR) was 24.83 and AIR in Japan was 17.15. AIR of glioblastoma in the US and Japan was 3.27 and 1.05, AIR of PCNSL was 0.44 and 0.51, AIR of embryonal tumors was 0.21 and 0.16, AIR of GCTs was 0.08 and 0.27, and AIR of meningioma was 9.73 and 5.11, respectively. This report demonstrated that the incidence of neuroepithelial tumors and embryonal tumors in Japan was approximately half to one-third, whereas that of GCTs in Japan was approximately 3 times comparing to the US.

Cancer epidemiological situation near nuclear facilities

Abstract:Relevance. Development of nuclear technologies and their wide application in medicine, power engineering and industry is always associated with health risks both for employees of nuclear facilities and for the population living in the vicinity of such facilities. Adequate assessment of such risks is possible only on the basis of the results of health monitoring of the personnel of potentially hazardous nuclear facilities and the population living in the vicinity of such facilities. One of the topical directions of research within the framework of such monitoring is assessment of specific morbidity and mortality from malignant neoplasms (MN) (C00-C97 according to ICD-10). Intention. To analyze the main medico-statistical indicators of MN-related morbidity and mortality over time among the personnel of nuclear industry and nuclear power plants and the population living near such facilities, as well as the general population of Russia in 2012-2018. Methodology. We analyzed basic medical and statistical indicators of the morbidity among the personnel of potentially hazardous nuclear facilities and the population with MN living in the vicinity of such facilities; the data was obtained from the Federal Center for Information Technologies of Extreme Problems of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia. The results were compared with MN incidence in Russia using data from P.A. Herzen Moscow Cancer Research Institute, a branch of the National Medical Research Center for Radiology of the Russian Ministry of Health. Results and Discussion. There is an increase in MN primary incidence rate in the medical institutions of the FMBA and the Ministry of Health of Russia. The congruence of the trends is strongly positive and statistically significant (r = 0.932; p < 0.001), which may indicate a unidirectional influence of factors contributing to MN development in patients of FMBA and Russian Ministry of Health institutions. The average annual rates of primary morbidity (354.2 8.9) per 100,000 people, mortality (158.5 ± 4.2) per 100,000 people and one-year mortality (19.6 ± 0.5) % of patients registered in FMBA medical organizations were statistically significantly lower than those in Russia - (398.0 ± 8.5) per 100,000 population, (200.5 ± 0.6) per 100,000 population and (24.0 ± 0.6) %, respectively. The trend of MN-related mortality rate in the Russian population approached a straight horizontal line, i.e. showed a tendency to stability, in patients of FMBA indicators increased. There was a decrease in one-year MN-related mortality rate and an increase in 5-year survival rate in the departments under consideration. Conclusion. The results of the study may become the basis for developing medical and social rehabilitation measures for employees of the enterprises serviced by FMBA medical organizations, as well as for attached contingents. Continuous monitoring and analysis of oncological morbidity on a personal level using registry technologies are necessary in the areas with potentially hazardous nuclear facilities.

Abstract:Background: The health system performance assessment is a challenging process for decision-makers. In case of Kazakhstan's healthcare system, the calculation of avoidable mortality, which has been underutilized to date, could serve as an additional tool to prioritize areas for improvement. Therefore, the aim of the study is to analyse avoidable mortality in Kazakhstan. Methods: The data was retrieved from the Bureau of National Statistics, Kazakhstan. It covers population data by age, mortality rates from disease groups based on the Joint OECD/Eurostat classification of preventable and treatable causes of mortality. The data spans from 2015 to 2021, categorized by gender and 5-year age groups (0, 1–4, 5–9, ..., 70–74). Standardization was performed using the 2015 OECD standard population. We used joinpoint regression analysis to calculate the average annual percentage change. Results: From 2015 to 2019, the annual percentage change in avoidable mortality per 100000 population was -3.8 (-5.7 to -1.8), and from 2019 to 2021 it increased by 17.6 (11.3 to 24.3). Males exhibited higher avoidable mortality rates compared to females. The preventable mortality rate was consistently higher than the treatable mortality. Both preventable and treatable mortality decreased from 2015 to 2019, with preventable mortality reaching 272.17 before rising to 379.23 per 100000 population in 2021. Between 2015 and 2021, treatable mortality rates increased from 179.3 (176.93- 181.67) to 205.45 (203.08-207.81) per 100000 population. Conclusion: In Kazakhstan, the leading causes of avoidable mortality were circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, and cancer. To achieve the goals of Universal Health Coverage and improve the overall population health, there is an urgent need to amend the healthcare system and reduce avoidable mortality. While it is important to acknowledge the influence of COVID-19 on these trends, our study's focus on avoidable mortality provides valuable insights that complement the understanding of pandemic-related effects.

Abstract:Background: Cardiovascular diseases contribute to premature mortality globally, resulting in substantial social and economic burdens. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study reported that in 2019 alone, heart attack and strokes accounted for the deaths of 18.6 million individuals. Ischemic heart diseases, including acute myocardial infarction (AMI), accounted for 182 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and it is leading cause of death worldwide. Aim: The aim of this study is to present the burden of AMI in Kazakhstan and describe the outcome of hospitalized patients. Methods: The data of 79,172 people admitted to hospital with ICD-10 diagnosis I21 between 2014 and 2019 was derived from the Unified National Electronic Health System and retrospectively analyzed. Results: The majority of the cohort (53,285, 67%) were men, with an average age of 63 (±12) years, predominantly of Kazakh (38,057, 48%) and Russian (24,583, 31%) ethnicities. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity (61,972, 78%). In males, a sharp increase in incidence is present after 40 years, while for females, the morbidity increases gradually after 55. Throughout the observation period, all-cause mortality rose from 101 to 210 people per million population (PMP). In 2019, AMI account for 169,862 DALYs in Kazakhstan, with a significant proportion (79%) attributed to years of life lost due to premature death (YLDs). Approximately half of disease burden due to AMI (80,794 DALYs) was in age group 55-69 years. Although incidence is higher for men, they have better survival rates than women. In terms of revascularization procedures, coronary artery bypass grafting yielded higher survival rates compared to percutaneous coronary intervention (86.3% and 80.9% respectively) during the 5-year follow-up. Conclusion: This research evaluated the burden and disability-adjusted life years of AMI in Kazakhstan, the largest Central Asian country. The results show that more effective disease management systems and preventive measures at earlier ages are needed.
Central Nervous System Tumors: a Single Center Pathology Review of 34,140 Cases over 60 Years

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Tumor epidemiology is a significant part of CNS (central nervous system) tumor studies. Reassessment of original sections can update our knowledge of tumor spectrum. Here, we discuss the features of CNS tumor pathology in a single center.METHODS:A total of 34140 cases from 1950 to 2009 were collected; sections from 1990 to 2009 were reassessed according to WHO 2007 classification, and cases from 1950 to 1989 were classified according to the previous pathological diagnosis.RESULTS:Seven CNS tumor categories during 1990 to 2009 were as follow: neuroepithelial tissue (38.0%), tumors of the meninges (36.5%), tumors of the sellar region (4.1%), germ cell tumors (1.3%), tumors of cranial and paraspinal nerves (13.3%), lymphomas and hematopoietic neoplasm (1.7%), metastatic tumors (5.1%), where histological types by age and sex were diverse. Overall, males exceeded females in distributions of most CNS tumor subtypes, while tumors of the meninges occurred more frequently in females. The case number of lymphomas and hematopoietic neoplasms grew the fastest during the past five years, and the distribution of neuroepithelial tumors remained stable over the past twenty years.CONCLUSIONS:Despite the possibilities of cross sample biases, the data in this series could suggest a similar CNS tumor spectrum as might occur in other developing countries.

Abstract:In this article, we discuss the effects of education level and age on short-term memory. The performance of young and elderly persons was compared on an adapted version of the Brown-Peterson procedure. Participants were asked to report consonant trigrams, after variable time periods, during which they performed a mental addition task or an articulation task. A control condition consisted of a no-interference task. Both age groups were divided according to individual educational level (greater or less than the median number of school years in each age group). The results revealed a significant effect of education. Moreover, the education effect interacted with the task: participants with less education were more impaired in mental addition than in articulation. However, neither the age effect nor the interactions involving age reached significance. These results indicate that education, to a greater extent than age, should be considered a determining factor of performance when interpolated tasks of high demand are used with the Brown-Peterson procedure.
Pleomorphic adenoma in an atypical location near the temporomandibular joint: a case report.

Abstract:Pleomorphic adenomas primarily arise in the major salivary glands, especially in the parotid. The most common area is the lower pole superficial to the plane of the facial nerve. In this report, a pleomorphic adenoma in an atypical location--the region of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)--is presented. The tumor was solitary, closely attached to the capsule of the TMJ and superior to the parotid gland, with clear demarcation. Clinically, the tumor resembled TMJ pathology, but MRI examination led to diagnosis of a benign tumor attached to the TMJ. This report shows that pleomorphic adenoma can be a possible diagnosis for lesions at the joint capsule.

Abstract:The Republic of Kazakhstan began undergoing a political, economic, and social transition after 1991. Population health was declared an important element and was backed with a substantial commitment by the central government to health policy. We examine key trends in the population health status of the Republic of Kazakhstan and seek to understand them in relation to the ongoing political, economic, and social changes in society and its aspirations in health policy. We used the Global Burden of Disease database and toolkit to extract and analyze country-specific descriptive data for the Republic of Kazakhstan to assess life expectancy, child mortality, leading causes of mortality, disability-adjusted life years, and causes and number of years lived with disability. Life expectancy declined from 1990 to 1996 but has subsequently recovered. Ischemic heart disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease remain among the leading causes of death; child mortality for children under 5 years has declined; and cardiovascular risk factors account for the greatest cause of disability. Considering its socioeconomic development over the last two decades, Kazakhstan continues to lag behind OECD countries on leading health indictors despite substantial investments in public health policy. We identify seven strategic priorities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health care system.

Abstract:Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health emergency in many countries, including Kazakhstan. Despite the decline in the incidence rate and having one of the highest treatment effectiveness in the world, the incidence rate of TB remains high in Kazakhstan. Social and environmental factors along with host genetics contribute to pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) incidence. Due to the high incidence rate of TB in Kazakhstan, our research aimed to study the epidemiology and genetics of PTB in Kazakhstan. Materials and methods: 1,555 participants were recruited to the case–control study. The epidemiology data was taken during an interview. Polymorphisms of selected genes were determined by real-time PCR using pre-designed TaqMan probes. Results: Epidemiological risk factors like diabetes ( χ 2 = 57.71, p < 0.001), unemployment (χ 2 = 81.1, p < 0.001), and underweight-ranged BMI (<18.49, χ 2 = 206.39, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with PTB. VDR FokI (rs2228570) and VDR BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphisms were associated with an increased risk of PTB. A/A genotype of the TLR8 gene (rs3764880) showed a significant association with an increased risk of PTB in Asians and Asian males. The G allele of the rs2278589 polymorphism of the MARCO gene increases PTB susceptibility in Asians and Asian females. VDR BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphism was significantly associated with PTB in Asian females. A significant association between VDR ApaI polymorphism and PTB susceptibility in the Caucasian population of Kazakhstan was found. Conclusion: This is the first study that evaluated the epidemiology and genetics of PTB in Kazakhstan on a relatively large cohort. Social and environmental risk factors play a crucial role in TB incidence in Kazakhstan. Underweight BMI (<18.49 kg/m2), diabetes, and unemployment showed a statistically significant association with PTB in our study group. FokI (rs2228570) and BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphisms of the VDR gene can be used as possible biomarkers of PTB in Asian males. rs2278589 polymorphism of the MARCO gene may act as a potential biomarker of PTB in Kazakhs. BsmI polymorphism of the VDR gene and rs2278589 polymorphism of the MARCO gene can be used as possible biomarkers of PTB risk in Asian females as well as VDR ApaI polymorphism in Caucasians.

Abstract:Objective: We aimed to update data on the morbidity and mortality rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) among the population of Mongolia by province between 2018 and 2022. Methods: This study was designed using a descriptive method. The data were collected from 21 general hospitals of provinces, 9 general hospitals of districts, and the National Cancer Center in 2018-2022. The incidence and mortality were calculated as mean annual numbers per 100,000 populations. The age-standardized rate (ASR) was utilized by the direct method, and it was rated by weighted average of age-specific incidence rates against the world population. Result: In the country, a total of 1316 new cases were diagnosed and 782 deaths were caused by CRC in the last 5 years (2018-2022). The incidence of CRC in the last 5 years (2018-2022) was 7.9 per 100,000 populations, and the mortality rate was 4.7 per 100,000. The provinces of Orkhon (12), Khentii (11), and Central (10) reported the highest incidences of CRC, whereas the provinces of Sukhbaatar (6.9), Selenge (6.6), Dornod (6), and Darkhan-Uul (6) had the highest death rates (per 100,000 populations). The incidence of CRC didn't differ statistically significantly between men and women. Additionally, the estimated incidence has grown dramatically with patients' ages. Conclusion: Our study presents evidence of a steadily increasing CRC incidence in Mongolia over the past five years. Abstract:According to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, chronic kidney disease (CKD) was prevalent in 697.5 million individuals worldwide in 2017. By 2040, it is anticipated that CKD will rank as the fifth most common cause of death. This study aims to examine the epidemiology of CKD in Kazakhstan and to project future trends in CKD prevalence and mortality by 2030. The retrospective analysis was performed on a database acquired from the Unified National Electronic Health System for 703,122 patients with CKD between 2014 and 2020. During the observation period, 444,404 women and 258,718 men were registered with CKD, 459,900 (66%) were Kazakhs and 47% were older than 50. The incidence rate notably decreased: 6365 people per million population (PMP) in 2014 and 4040 people PMP in 2020. The prevalence changed from 10,346 to 38,287 people PMP, and the mortality rate increased dramatically from 279 PMP to 916 PMP. Kazakhstan's central regions, Turkestan and Kyzylorda were identified as the most burdensome ones. The ARIMA model projected 1,504,694 expected prevalent cases in 2030. The predicted mortality climbed from 17,068 cases in 2020 to 37,305 deaths in 2030. By 2030, the prevalence and mortality of CKD will significantly increase, according to the predicted model. A thorough action plan with effective risk factor management, enhanced screening among risk populations, and prompt treatment are required to lessen the burden of disease in Kazakhstan.
