Abstract:To evaluate the prevalence of high-risk HPV types among female sex workers and the general population in Huzhou, China.Cervical samples from the general population (n=292) and female sex workers (n=288) in Huzhou, China, were collected between April, 2008, and October, 2009. Demographic, behavioral, and clinical data were obtained by interview. Genotyping of the HPV L1 gene was done via a PGMY09/PGMY11 PCR-based assay, and the cervical samples were subjected to cytology analysis.The prevalence of HPV was higher among female sex workers (66.7%) than among the general population (19.2%). Among female sex workers, HPV-16 (28.8%) was the most prevalent, followed by HPV-58 (24.0%) and HPV-52 (20.8%). The percentage of cervical abnormalities was higher among female sex workers (20.8%) than among the general population (4.8%). Multivariate analysis showed that education level and condom use during coitus were significantly associated with HPV infection (P<0.05). HPV-16, HPV-58 and HPV-52 were the dominant types, and were significantly associated with abnormal cervical cytology (P<0.05).Female sex workers in Huzhou, China, were found to have a greater probability of being infected with high-risk HPV, and novel vaccines against HPV-58 and HPV-52 should be developed. Using condoms could reduce the risk of infection.

Abstract:Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, especially with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes, is closely associated with cervical cancer. This study aimed to observe the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection among healthy women in Beijing, China. Materials and Methods: Cervical specimens were collected from 29,436 healthy women, who underwent health check-ups in Peking Union Medical College Hospital between 2016 and 2019. A commercial kit was used for the detection of 15 HR-HPV and two low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) genotypes. Results: A total of 3586 (12.18%) participants tested positive for HPV, 3467 of which were infected with HR-HPVs. The most prevalent genotypes were HPV52, 58, 16, 51, and 56. Moreover, while infection with a single genotype (9.84%) was more prevalent, HPV16+52 was the most common combination in those infected with multiple HPVs. Furthermore, the highest infection rate among age groups was in women aged <25 years (20.92%). No significant difference in the prevalence was observed from 2016 to 2019. However, HPV incidence in Beijing was significantly different than that in all other areas in China, except for Zhengzhou (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our findings could serve as potential reference for better understanding of the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection in Beijing.

Abstract:Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the main etiological factor for cervical cancer and premalignant lesions of the cervix. The purposes of the present study were to determine the prevalence of type-specific HPV infections and the association of different HPV types with cervical dysplasia among women in Zhejiang province, Southeast China. Methods A total of 15,267 women presenting to a gynaecological outpatient clinic were enrolled in this study. Women were screened for HPV in addition to routine cervical cytology testing. Microarray hybridization and liquid-based cytology tests were used to detect HPV genotypes and cervical cytology, respectively. Results Based on the population attending a gynaecological outpatient clinic, overall prevalence of any 23 HPV type was 22.8% and multiple HPV infection was found in 4.0% of all the outpatients. HPV prevalence showed bimodal age distribution, with a peak (55.7%) at the ≤20 age group and a second one (35.5%) at >60 age group. In total samples, the five most frequent types were HPV 16 (4.4%), 58 (2.9%), 52 (2.7%), 33 (2.2%) and 11 (1.9%). Overall HPV prevalence increased with the severity of the cytologic result. Analysis through crude odds ratios (ORs) revealed that the cervical lesion risk of HPV-infected women increased to about 26-fold of uninfected women (OR 26.1, 95% CI 22.4 to 30.3). The five most risky HPV types associated with abnormal cytology were HPV 73, 16, 82, 45 and 51. Conclusions This study provided baseline data on HPV prevalence in women attending a gynecological outpatient clinic in Zhejiang province. Our data will supply guidance for the primary screening and vaccination program for cervical cancer in this area.

Prevalence of High-Risk Human Papillomavirus and Cervical Lesion Risk Factors: A Population-Based Study in Zhejiang, China 2010-2019

Abstract:This study investigates the epidemiological characteristics of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) and analyzes the risk of cervical lesions among women in Zhejiang province, China. HPV data were collected retrospectively from a cohort of 67 742 women who underwent routine cervical cancer screening from 2010 to 2019. Precancerous and cervical cancer cases (n = 980) were histologically diagnosed as a low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL; n = 341) or a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL; n = 499) and invasive cervical cancer (ICC) (n = 140) groups. Disordered logistic regression analysis was used to test the relationship between different degrees of cervical lesions, HPV16/18 infection status, positive rate of p16(INK4a) (p16), Ki-67 expression, and patient's age in SIL and ICC (270/980 cases) patients. HPV52 (4.7%) was the most prevalent HPV type, followed by HPV16 (3.3%) and HPV58 (2.6%). HPV16 was the most common HPV in SIL, peaking at the age of 30-39. The HPV16 infection rate was significantly higher in HSIL than in LSIL patients; moreover, HPV16, HPV18, and HPV51 infection rates were significantly higher in ICC patients than in HSIL (Bonferroni-adjusted p < 0.0167). The presence of HPV16/18 was also associated with a higher risk of developing HSIL from LSIL (odds ratio [OR] = 9.198, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.76-127.49). The increased p16 expression and HPV16/18 were associated with the increased risk of cancer progression (OR = 1.092, 95% CI: 1.03-1.36; OR = 1.495, 95% CI: 1.23-2.19, respectively). The identified hrHPV genotypes in cervical lesions can serve as a baseline indicator for future vaccine assessment in Zhejiang, China.

Abstract:Abstract Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is currently the main cause of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions in female patients. By analyzing 6-year patient data from Shanghai Zhoupu Hospital in China, we retrospectively analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of women to determine the relationship between HPV genotype and cytological test results. Methods From 2014 to 2019, 23,724 cases of cervical shedding were collected from Zhoupu Hospital in Shanghai, China. By comparing the results of HPV and ThinPrep cytology test (TCT), the HPV infection rate of patients was retrospectively analyzed. HPV genotyping using commercial kits can detect 21 HPV subtypes (15 high-risk and 6 low-risk). According to the definition of the Bethesda system, seven types of cervical cytology results were involved. Results 3816 among 23,724 women, nearly 16.08%, were infected with HPV. The top three highest HPV prevalence rates were high-risk type infection, including HPV52 (3.19%), 58 (2.47%) and 16 (2.34%). The number of single-type HPV infections (3480 (91.20%)) was much larger than the number of multi-type ones (336 (8.8%)). Single-type infections were mainly in women aged 50–60 (16.63%) and women under 30 (15.37%), while multi-type infections were more common in women over 60 (2.67%). By analyzing the long-term trends, between 2014 and 2019, HPV52, 58, and 16 subtypes changed significantly, and the HPV positive rate also changed significantly during this period. Among 4502 TCT positive women, 15 (4.04%), 125 (2.64%),159 (1.54%), 4202 (17.71%) and 1 (0.004%) had atypical glandular cells (AGC), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), atypical squamous cells (ASC)and cervical adenocarcinoma, respectively. The HPV infection rates were 66.08%, 63.99%, 115.20%, 119.50%, and 31.72% for NILM, AGCs, HSILs LSILs and ASCs, respectively. Conclusions HPV and TCT screening were very important steps in the secondary prevention of cervical cancer. Through the tracking and analysis of HPV and TCT results in this study, it can provide valuable information for Shanghai's HPV screening and prevention strategies, and provide references for clinical decision-making in the treatment of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.

Abstract:Objective: To understand the status of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among young women without a history of vaccination in Shanghai, and analyze the related factors of HPV infection in this population. Methods: A total of 2 660 women aged 18-24 years old who had made an appointment for HPV vaccine at 36 community health service centers in Shanghai from July 2022 to February 2023 were selected as the study subjects. Basic information (including demographic characteristics, previous disease history, female menstrual and reproductive history, sexual life history, etc.) was collected by a self-filling electronic questionnaire. Cervical secretions were detected by HPV nucleic acid typing. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors related to high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection in the target population. Results: The age of the subjects was (23±1) years old, and the infection rate of HPV was 14.51% (386 cases), among which the infection rates of HR-HPV and low-risk HPV were 13.53% (360 cases) and 1.84% (49 cases), respectively. The main subtypes of HR-HPV infection were HPV52, 16, 58, 39 and 66. The multivariate logistic regression model analysis showed that compared with the control group, the OR (95%CI) values for HR-HPV infection in the group of married, earned less than 2 000 yuan/month, drank alcohol occasionally, gynecological disease history, had two or more sexual partners in the past year, and did not know whether the partners had other sexual partners were 0.41 (0.25-0.66), 0.39 (0.21-0.70), 1.45 (1.13-1.86), 1.29 (1.00-1.66), 2.18-5.18 (1.02-16.05), and 1.82 (1.31-2.54), respectively. Conclusion: The infection rate of HPV among women aged 18-24 years old in Shanghai remains at a high level. The main subtypes of HR-HPV infection are HPV52, 16, 58, 39 and 66. The marital status, economic income level, drinking status, gynecological disease history and sexual life history are related to HR-HPV infection.
Risks for cervical abnormalities in women with non-16/18 high-risk human papillomavirus infections in south Shanghai, China

Abstract:The study was aimed to analyze the prevalence characteristics of non-16/18 high-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPV) and the related risks for cervical abnormalities in south Shanghai. A total of 2291 HPV women who had been referred for a colposcopy due to HPV infection from @@@@@2016.12 to 2019.6 were enrolled. Combined with liquid-based thin-layer cell test (TCT) and pathological results of cervical biopsy, the infection spectrum and pathogenic risk of non-16/18 HR-HPV in local population were investigated. The results showed that the single HR-HPV infection rate was significantly higher than that of multiple infection, and the five most frequently detected types were HPV16, HPV52, HPV18, HPV53, HPV58 in the group. The total proportion of non-16/18 HR-HPV infection was 68.22%, more than twice of HPV16/18. In cases with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) or cervical cancer, non-16/18 HR-HPV infections account for 50.84% (single infection: 28.57%, multiple infection: 22.27%). The risk of cervical abnormalities caused by single HPV infection was ranked as HPV16 > HPV52 > HPV18 = HPV58 > HPV51 > HPV53 = HPV56 > others. Notably, among non-16/18 HR-HPV infected patients with HSIL/cancer lesions, the omission diagnostic rate of TCT was 62.81%. The infection rate of non-16/18 HR-HPV in whole study population was much higher than that of 16/18 type, and the infection rate of the former was also slightly higher in patients with HSIL and cancer. Due to the high omission diagnostic rate of TCT, we suggest patients with persistent non-16/18 HPV infection should undergo colposcopy biopsy to reduce missed detection of HSIL and cancers.

ObjectiveWe explored the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among women in Jinshan District, Shanghai.MethodsWe analyzed all HPV testing samples sent from our unit between December 2023 and April 2024. We reported the HPV prevalence overall, by age, and by subtype.ResultsIn total, 3788 women aged 16 to 90 years had HPV test results. The prevalence of infection with any HPV subtype was 17.9%. The HPV prevalence by age group was: ≤30 years, 15.4%; 31–40 years, 14.7%; 41–50 years, 17.0%; 51–60 years, 22.4%; >60 years, 31.0%. Among HPV-positive women, 80.6% had infection with one subtype, 16.4% had dual infection, and 3.1% had three or more subtypes detected. We found 640 cases (16.9%) of infection with high-risk HPV subtypes and 139 cases (5.04%) of infection with low-risk HPV subtypes. The most common high-risk subtypes were HPV 52, 53, 58, and 16; the most common low-risk subtypes were HPV 81, 70, and 42.ConclusionWe detected ≥1 HPV subtype among most women in our study. The prevalence of HPV was lowest in younger women and highest in women age >60 years. Tailored strategies for older women are needed to prevent HPV infection and cervical cancer.

Abstract:Aim: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common cause of high-grade lesions and carcinogenesis such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer (CC). The prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection varies greatly in different geographical areas. Patients & methods: This study enrolled 92,932 patients from January 2017 to December 2021 and analyzed the prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes. Results: 18038 (19.41%) specimens were HPV-positive. No significant difference in infection rates between men and women (19.05 vs 19.41%). The most prevalent HPV subtypes are HPV52, HPV58, HPV16, HPV53, HPV51 and HPV81. Single infection of HPV has dominated in HPV-positive patients. Conclusion: Our results show that the prevalence and distribution of HPV subtypes have obvious region-specific and age-specific characteristics.

Abstract:Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and screening have been demonstrated to be effective methods for controlling cervical cancer. To provide evidence for effective targeted interventions, we investigated the HPV prevalence and genotypic distribution in women of different age groups in the Longgang community of Shenzhen, China. Methods: A total of 29 263 women were enrolled in the Longgang District Central Hospital from January 2018 to October 2020. Cervical specimens were collected at enrolment. We used a polymerase chain reaction diagnostic kit to detect the genotypes of HPV. Results: The prevalence of overall, high-risk, probable high-risk (PHR) and low-risk HPV infection was 8.2% (95% confidence interval [CI] 7.9 to 8.5), 6.9% (95% CI 6.6 to 7.2), 0.9% (95% CI 0.8 to 1.1) and 1.6% (95% CI 1.5 to 1.8), respectively. High-risk HPV genotype infections accounted for 84.4% (95% CI 82.8 to 85.8) of the overall HPV infections. The five most predominant genotypes were HPV-52, HPV-16, HPV-58, HPV-53 and HPV-51. Conclusion: Our study found that the prevalence of HPV infection increased with age and women 55-59 y of age presented the highest HPV prevalence. As a PHR subtype, HPV-53 has a higher infection rate in women. HPV-52, HPV-16 and HPV-58 are common infection genotypes.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION:We investigated the prevalence and carcinogenic risks of individual high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) in all types of cervical cytology specimens in the Shanghai population.METHODS:A total of 124,251 cases with cotesting of cytology and HPV genotyping between October 2017 and February 2020 were included.RESULTS:The overall HPV positive rate was 24.3%, with 22.9% for HR-HPV and 6.1% for low-risk HPV. The top five most common HR-HPV subtypes were HPV 52/16/58/53/39 in the entire studied population, and HPV 16/53/56/51/39 in women with abnormal cytology. The most prevalent subtypes in negative/LSIL, HSIL, and glandular lesions were HPV 52, 16, and 18, respectively. HPV 16, 33, 26, 18, 58, and 82 were the most common subtypes significantly associated with an increased risk for HSIL + cytology. HPV 16/18 were present in 53.6% and 66.7%, and HPV 16/18/31/33/45/52/58 were identified in 90.3% and 80.1% of HSIL and squamous cell carcinoma cytology, respectively. HPV 16/18 and HPV 16/18/31/33/45/52/58 were detected in 37.0% and 44.4% of women with cytologic interpretation of in situ and invasive adenocarcinoma.CONCLUSIONS:This large-scale study identified the most common HPV subtypes in each cytology category, and the carcinogenic risks of individual HR-HPV in the studied Shanghai population. The results would provide valuable information for the development of next-generation HPV vaccines and cervical cancer screening programs for the Chinese population, and, more specifically, the Shanghai metropolitan population.
Human Papillomavirus Genotype Prevalence in the Women of Shanghai, China and Its Association with the Severity of Cervical Neoplasia.

Abstract:AIMS:Human papillomavirus (HPV) viral load and genotype are the primary determinants for the development of cervical neoplasia. We aim to identify the prevalent HPV genotypes in the women of Shanghai, China and investigate the association between the HPV viral load and the severity of cervical neoplasia. METHODS:Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples were obtained from 20 cases of histologically normal cervix, 52 cases of low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), 46 cases of high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), and 29 cases of cervical squamous cervical cancer (SCC). A polymerase chain reaction reverse dot blot (PCR-RDB) genotyping chip was used to examine 23 HPV genotypes. Real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the viral load of HPV in the fresh tissue of 80 cases. RESULTS:The HPV infection rate in the 147 cases of cervical biopsies was 73.5%. Fourteen HPV genotypes were detected, including 12 high risk (HR)-HPVs and 2 low-risk (LR)-HPVs. HPV-16 (33.3%), HPV-31 (6.1%), HPV-52 (6.1%), and HPV-58 (5.4%) were the most popular genotypes of HR-HPV. Significant differences were found in HPV viral load between histologically normal cervix and cervix tissues with epithelial dysplasia (P<0.05). There was a statistically insignificant trend of gradual increase of viral load as the epithelial lesion progresses from LSIL to HSIL and to SCC (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS:HPV 16, 31, 52, and 58 are the most prevalent genotypes in women of Shanghai, China. HPV viral load is an indicator of the presence of cervical neoplasia but not an accurate predictor for the severity of cervical neoplasia.

Abstract:Objective:To clarify the subtype infection status,distribution characteristics of human papilloma virus (HPV),and its correlation with cervical lesions in different groups in Shanghai.Methods:2126 female patients of the gynecology clinic and routine physical examination were detected for HPV genotypes,comparing the distribution of HPV infection and subtypes.Results:HPV overall infection rate,high-risk HPV (HR-HPV)infection rate,single and multiple infection rate in high-risk group,were significantly higher than physical group(P<0.05).HR-HPV,low-risk HPV (LR-HPV)distribution of the two groups were slightly different.HPV infection rate in high-risk group showed bimodal age distribution,with a peak at the<30 age group and the second one at >60 age group,while the <30 age group showed the highest infection rate in physical group.HPV subtypes in each disease group were slightly different.HPV1 6 subtype detection rate increased with the malignancy in cervical lesions,(P<0.05 ).Conclusions:The distribution of HPV infection and pathogenic subtypes of Shanghai was region specific.HPV infection status were different between two risk groups.The latent infection rate of HPV is high in Shanghai population.HPV1 6 subtype has the highest carcinogenic potential in Shanghai.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the epidemiological genotype features of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervical infection and their risks for cervical precancers among women in Shenzhen area. Methods: A total of 2 717 individuals ranging in age from 30~59 years were recruited in 18 community health centers of Shenzhen city from March 1 to June 15, 2015 by a cluster sampling method. The results of genotype of HPV, liquid-based cytology (LBC), colposcopy and pathology were analyzed. The clinical sensitivity and specificity as well as positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive values of the combination of different HPV genotype in screening the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2 and above were estimated. Results: The HPV infection rate in Shenzhen area was 15.9% (432/2 717). The most common HPV genotype was HPV52 (22.9%), followed by HPV16 (12.7%), HPV53 (10.0%), HPV51 (8.6%) and HPV58 (8.1%). Compared with HPV16/18 genotyping, HPV33/16 genotyping had a higher sensitivity (57.1% vs. 42.9%, P<0.05) and an analogous specificity (87.3% vs. 86.9%, P>0.05) in predicting CIN2+ . The sensitivity of combination of HPV33/16 genotyping and low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) positive tested by LBC in predicting CIN2+ was 75.0%, significantly higher than 64.3% of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) positive tested by LBC alone (P<0.05). The specificities of these two methods mentioned above in predicting CIN2+ were 83.5% and 89.2%, respectively, without statistical difference (P>0.05). Conclusions: Women infected by HPV have distinct risks for CIN2+ according to different high-risk HPV genotypes. The top five risks were HPV 33, 16, 58, 56, and 68. HPV-positive women triaged by LBC LSIL+ combined with HPV33/16 genotyping may be a potential strategy for cervical cancer screening in developed urban area.
Epidemiological survey and risk factor analysis of high-risk human papillomavirus in women in Longgang District, Shenzhen

Abstract:Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of high-risk HPV infection in married women in Longgang District, Shenzhen, and to analyze the distribution of HPV subtypes across different age groups while identifying risk factors associated with HPV infection. Methods: 1. From January 2018 to December 2020, 209,627 married women in Longgang District were selected as study subjects, using high-risk HPV testing as the primary screening means. HPV 16 or 18 positive directly referred to colposcopy, other types positive continued liquid-based thin-layer cytology (TCT) examination, if ≥ ASCUS, referred to colposcopy, and biopsy if necessary. 2. 210 female patients who came to our hospital for HPV testing from January 2018 to December 2020 were used for the study, including 130 HPV-positive patients and 80 HPV-negative patients. The risk factors of HPV infection were studied by questionnaire. Results: The HPV infection rate in 2018 was 13.17%, including LSIL 6.87%, HSIL 3.57%, the single type infection rate was 79.83%, top5 monotypes were 52, 53, 16, 58, 81, multiple types infection rate was 20.17%, top5 multiple types were 52/ 53, 52/68, 16/52 52/58, 52/81; 2019 HPV positivity rate was 10.23%, including LSIL 5.98%, HSIL 5.81%, the monotypic infection rate was 82.5%, top5 monotypic were: 52, 16, 58, 51, 53, multi heavy sex infection rate was 17.5%, top5 multi typic were: 52/53, 52/58, 52/68, 16/52, 51/52; HPV positive rate in 2020 was 11.28%, including LSIL 6 %, HSIL 4.84%, monotypic infection rate was 79.89%, top5 monotypic were: 52, 16, 53, 58, 51, multiheavy category infection rate was 20.11%, top5 multitypic were: 52/58, 16/52, 52/68, 52/53, 51/52. 30-50 years old is the high prevalence age of HPV susceptibility, followed by 50-60 years old, and HPV52 is the most common type. 2. 210 female patients were surveyed by filling out questionnaires: Smoking history, age at first sex, age at first pregnancy, abortion, number of sexual partners, contraceptive method, bleeding during intercourse, cervicitis, vaginitis, sleeping habits, and mental status totaling 11 factors were significant between infected and control (P < .05). Dichotomous logistic regression analysis with these 11 factors as independent variables and HPV infection as dependent variable revealed that abortion (OR=2.117, 95% CI: 1.337-3.354), number of sexual partners (OR=2.562, 95% CI: 1.222-5.373), cervicitis (OR=2.873, 95% CI: 1.407-5.868), vaginitis (OR=2.413, 95% CI: 1.158-5.026) staying up late (OR=2.408, 95% CI: 1.134-5.115) and mental status (OR=3.139, 95% CI: 1.470-6.703) were six factors that were risk factors for HPV infection. Conclusion: The common HPV infection types among women in Longgang district were mainly 52, 16, 58, 53, and 51, with a predominance of a single type of infection. The positive rate and pathogenicity of HPV 52 were higher than HPV 16. Women aged 30-60 years should be included in priority screening for cervical lesions. The six factors of miscarriage, number of sexual partners, cervicitis, vaginitis, staying up late, and mental status were risk factors for HPV infection occurrence.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the status of genital infection as well as distribution of types of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women in Shenzhen and provide population data for the future vaccine intervention on cervical cancer.METHODS:Women with age between 15 and 59 years were selected in cluster stratified sampling from Huaqiaocheng community, Nanshan district, Shenzhen and received a population-based cervical cancer screening. After consent, every woman was interviewed by using questionnaire and tested by liquid-based cytology and HPV DNA (hybrid capture 2 and gene chips typing) separately.RESULTS:Totally 1 137 women were screened. The rate of high risk HPV of hybrid capture 2 test (14. 0% ) was higher than gene chips typing test (9. 8%) (chi(2) = 27. 198, P < 0. 001) ; the consistency of the two tests was acceptable ( kappa = 0. 498, P < 0. 001). The rates of low risk HPV types and other types of gene chips typing test in this population were 1. 9% and 0. 2% respectively. The percentages of HPV 16, 18 and 58 in HPV positive women were 29. 7% , 18. 9% and 18. 9%. The rates of different age group of low risk HPV were 1. 4% (17-34), 1. 7% (35-44) and 3. 2% (45-59) , respectively.CONCLUSIONS:HPV 16, 18, and 58 are the most popular types in the study population. The differences of infection rates of high risk HPV are due primarily to the variation of HPV16 distribution among age-specific population. The chances of being affected by low risk HPV will increase with age.

Abstract:Chronic hepadnavirus infections cause liver damage with ongoing death and regeneration of hepatocytes. In the present study, we set out to quantify the extent of liver turnover by measuring the clonal proliferation of hepatocytes by using integrated viral DNA as a genetic marker for individual hepatocyte lineages. Liver tissue from woodchucks with chronic woodchuck hepatitis virus (WHV) infection was assayed for randomly integrated viral DNA by using inverse PCR. Serial endpoint dilution of viral‐cell junction fragments into 96‐well plates, followed by nested PCR and DNA sequencing, was used to determine the copy number of specific viral cell junctions as a measure of the clonal distribution of infected cell subpopulations. The results indicated that the livers contained a minimum of 100,000 clones of >1,000 cells containing integrated DNA, representing at least 0.2% of the hepatocyte population of the liver. Because cells with integrated WHV DNA comprised only 1‐2% of total liver cells, it is likely that the total number of clones far exceeds this estimate, with as much as one half of the liver derived from high copy clones of >1,000 cells. It may be inferred that these clones have a strong selective growth or survival advantage. The results provide evidence for a large amount of hepatocyte proliferation and selection having occurred during the period of chronic WHV infection (approximately 1.5 years) in these animals.
