Abstract:We provide a full classification of the slope stability of the cotangent bundles of relatively minimal smooth Weierstrass fibrations. The classification only depends on the topological Euler characteristic of the surface and the genus of the base curve.

Abstract:We define a birational version of the stability of cotangent sheaves for complex projective manifolds, and more generally for smooth orbifolds. We then show, using standard conjectures in birational classification, that these cotangent sheaves are birationally stable, unless the orbifold is uniruled.

Abstract:We prove the conjectural Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality for tilt slope stable objects on each Fano threefold X of Picard number one. Based on the previous works on Bridgeland stability conditions, this induces an open subset of geometric stability conditions on D^b(X). We also get a new stronger bound for the Chern characters of slope semistable sheaves on X.

Stability Conditions on Free Abelian Quotients

Abstract:We study slope-stable vector bundles and Bridgeland stability conditions on varieties which are a quotient of a smooth projective variety by a finite abelian group $G$ acting freely. We show there is a one-to-one correspondence between $\widehat{G}$-invariant geometric stability conditions on the quotient and $G$-invariant geometric stability conditions on the cover. We apply our results to describe a connected component inside the stability manifolds of free abelian quotients when the cover has finite Albanese morphism. This applies to varieties with non-finite Albanese morphism which are free abelian quotients of varieties with finite Albanese morphism, such as Beauville-type and bielliptic surfaces. This gives a partial answer to a question raised by Lie Fu, Chunyi Li, and Xiaolei Zhao: If a variety $X$ has non-finite Albanese morphism, does there always exist a non-geometric stability condition on $X$? We also give counterexamples to a conjecture of Fu-Li-Zhao concerning the Le Potier function, which characterises Chern classes of slope-semistable sheaves. As a result of independent interest, we give a description of the set of geometric stability conditions on an arbitrary surface in terms of a refinement of the Le Potier function. This generalises a result of Fu-Li-Zhao from Picard rank one to arbitrary Picard rank.

Abstract:On a normal projective variety the locus of $\mu$-stable bundles that remain $\mu$-stable on all Galois covers prime to the characteristic is open in the moduli space of Gieseker semi-stable sheaves. On a smooth projective curve of genus at least 2 this locus is big in the moduli space of stable bundles, i.e., its complement has codimension at least 2.

Abstract:We study the weighted constant scalar curvature, a modified scalar curvature introduced by Lahdili (Proc Lond Math Soc 119(4):1065–1114, 2019) depending on weight functions , on non-compact semisimple principal toric fibrations. The latter notion is a generalization of the Calabi Ansatz originally defined by Apostolov et al. (J Differ Geom 68(2):277–345, 2004). This setup turns out to reduce the weighted cscK problem on the total space to a different weighted cscK problem on a fixed toric fiber M . We show that the natural analog of the weighted Futaki invariant of Lahdili (Proc Lond Math Soc 119(4):1065–1114, 2019) can under reasonable assumptions be interpreted on an unbounded polyhedron associated to M . In particular, we fix a certain class of weights and prove that if M admits a weighted cscK metric, then P is K-stable, and we give examples of weights on for which the weighted Futaki invariant vanishes but do not admit -cscK metrics. Following Jubert (A Yau-Tian-Donaldson correspondence on a class of toric fibrations. arXiv:2108.12297, 2021), we introduce a weighted Mabuchi energy and show that the existence of a -cscK metric implies that it proper. The well-definedness of in this setting also allows us to prove a uniqueness result using the method of Guan (Math Res Lett 6:547–555, 1999). As an application, we show that weighted K-stability of the abstract fiber is sufficient for the existence of weighted cscK metrics on the total space of line bundles over a compact Kähler base, extending the result in Lahdili (Proc Lond Math Soc 119(4):1065–1114, 2019) in the -bundles case. As a consequence, we recover a well-known existence result for shrinking Kähler–Ricci solitons (Feldman et al. in J Differ Geom 65(2):169–209, 2003; Futaki and Wang in Asian J Math 15:33–52, 2011; Li in On rotationally symmetric Kähler-Ricci solitons. arXiv:1004.4049, 2011). Finally, we give some interpretations in terms of asymptotic geometry.

On the stability of extensions of tangent sheaves on Kähler-Einstein Fano / Calabi-Yau pairs

Abstract:Let $S$ be a smooth projective variety and $\Delta$ a simple normal crossing $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor with coefficients in $(0,1]$. For any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, we denote by $\mathscr{E}(L)$ the extension sheaf of the orbifold tangent sheaf $T_S(-\log(\Delta))$ by the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}_S$ with the extension class $c_1(L)$. We show the following two results: (i) If $-(K_S+\Delta)$ is ample and $(S, \Delta)$ is K-semistable, then for any $\lambda\in \mathbb{Q}_{>0}$, the extension sheaf $\mathscr{E}({\lambda c_1(-(K_S+\Delta))})$ is slope semistable with respect to $-(K_S+\Delta)$; (ii) If $K_S+\Delta\equiv 0$, then for any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, $\mathscr{E}(L)$ is slope semistable with respect to $L$. These results generalize Tian's result where $-K_S$ is ample and $\Delta=\emptyset$. We give two applications of these results. The first is to study a question by Borbon-Spotti about the relationship between local Euler numbers and normalized volumes of log canonical surface singularities. We prove that the two invariants differ only by a factor $4$ when the log canonical pair is an orbifold cone over a marked Riemann surface. The second application is to derive Miyaoka-Yau-type inequalities on K-semistable log-smooth Fano pairs and Calabi-Yau pairs, which generalize some Chern-number inequalities proved by Song-Wang.

Abstract:We use a graph to define a new stability condition for algebraic moduli spaces of rational curves. We characterize when the tropical compactification of the moduli space agrees with the theory of geometric tropicalization. The characterization statement occurs only when the graph is complete multipartite.

Abstract:Ross and Thomas introduced the concept of slope stability to study K-stability, which has conjectural relation with the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metric. This paper presents a study of slope stability of Fano manifolds of dimension $n\geq 3$ with respect to smooth curves. The question turns out to be easy for curves of genus $\geq 1$ and the interest lies in the case of smooth rational curves. Our main result classifies completely the cases when a polarized Fano manifold $(X, -K_X)$ is not slope stable with respect to a smooth curve. Our result also states that a Fano threefold $X$ with Picard number 1 is slope stable with respect to every smooth curve unless $X$ is the projective space.

Abstract:Let $f\colon S\to B$ a fibred surface with fibres of genus $g\geq 2$ and base curve of genus $b$. Let $u_f$ be its unitary rank. We prove many new slope inequalities involving $u_f$ and some other invariants of the fibration. As applications: (1) we prove a new Xiao-type bound on $u_f$ with respect to $g$ for non-isotrivial fibrations: \[ u_f< g\frac{5g-2}{6g-3}. \] In particular this imples that if $f$ is not locally trivial and $u_f=g-1$ is maximal, then $g\leq 6$; (2) we prove a result in the direction of the Coleman-Oort conjecture: a new constrain on the rank of the (-1,0) part of the maximal unitary Higgs subbundle of a curve generically contained in the Torelli locus; (3) we study in the detail the extremal case (for non-isotrivial $f$) where $u_f=g-1$, giving many constrains for the case $g=6$, $u_f=5$.

Abstract:We define topological invariants of regular Lagrangian fibrations using the integral affine structure on the base space and we show that these coincide with the classes known in the literature. We also classify all symplectic types of Lagrangian fibrations with base $\rpr$ and fixed monodromy representation, generalising a construction due to Bates.

Abstract:We introduce a cohomological obstruction to solving the constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) equation twisted by a semipositive form, appearing in works of Fine and Song-Tian. Geometrically this gives an obstruction for a manifold to be the base of a holomorphic submersion carrying a cscK metric in certain ``adiabatic'' classes. In turn this produces many new examples of general type threefolds with classes which do not admit a cscK representative. When the twist vanishes our obstruction extends the slope stability of Ross-Thomas to effective divisors on a Kähler manifold. Thus we find examples of non-projective slope unstable manifolds.

Abstract:On a Weierstraß elliptic surface X , we define a "limit" of Bridgeland stability conditions, denoted as -stability, by moving the polarisation towards the fiber direction in the ample cone while keeping the volume of the polarisation fixed. We describe conditions under which a slope stable torsion-free sheaf is taken by a Fourier-Mukai transform to a -stable object, and describe a modification upon which a -semistable object is taken by the inverse Fourier-Mukai transform to a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf. We also study wall-crossing for Bridgeland stability, and show that 1-dimensional twisted Gieseker semistable sheaves are taken by a Fourier-Mukai transform to Bridgeland semistable objects.

Slope inequality of fibered surfaces, Morsification conjecture and moduli of curves

Abstract:Using the theory of moduli of curves, we establish various slope inequalities for general fibered surfaces. More precisely, we introduce the notion of functorial divisors on Artin stacks and prove a theorem concerning their effectiveness. Furthermore, we consider the moduli stack of reduced and local complete intersection canonically polarized curves and prove that the closed substack parametrizing non-stable curves has no divisorial components. Applying the above theorems to some tautological divisors on various moduli stacks of curves, we obtain several slope (in)equalities, e.g., a generalization of Moriwaki's slope inequality, slope equalities of general fibered surfaces whose fibers satisfy the Morsification conjecture. As applications, we provide a positive answer to Reid's conjecture concerning algebraic Morsification of non-hyperelliptic fibrations of genus $3$ and a positive partial answer to the question posed by Lu and Tan regarding the Chern invariants of fiber germs.

Stability and largeness properties of minimal surfaces in higher codimension

Abstract:We consider stable minimal surfaces of genus 1 in Euclidean space and in Riemannian manifolds. Under the condition of covering stability (all finite covers are stable) we show that a genus 1 finite total curvature minimal surface in $\mathbb R^n$ lies in an even dimensional affine subspace and is holomorphic for some constant orthogonal complex structure. For stable minimal tori in Riemannian manifolds we give an explicit bound on the systole in terms of a positive lower bound on the isotropic curvature. As an application we estimate the systole of noncyclic abelian subgroups of the fundamental group of PIC manifolds. This gives a new proof of the result of [5] that the fundamental cannot contain a noncyclic free abelian subgroup. The proofs apply the structure theory of holomorphic vector bundles over genus 1 Riemann surfaces developed by M. Atiyah [2].

Abstract:We identify spaces of half-translation surfaces, equivalently complex curves with quadratic differential, with spaces of stability structures on Fukaya-type categories of punctured surfaces. This is achieved by new methods involving the complete classification of objects in these categories, which are defined in an elementary way. We also introduce a number of tools to deal with surfaces of infinite area, where structures similar to those in cluster algebra appear.

Abstract:We study torus fibrations over the 2-sphere and Hurwitz equivalence of their monodromies. We show that, if two torus fibrations over $S^2$ have the same type of singularities, then their global monodromies are Hurwitz equivalent after performing direct sums with certain torus Lefschetz fibrations. The additional torus Lefschetz fibration is universal when the type of singularities is "simple".

Abstract:We classify fibrations by integral plane projective rational quartic curves whose generic fibre is regular but admits a non-smooth point that is a canonical divisor. These fibrations can only exist in characteristic two. The geometric generic fibre, which determines the generic behaviour of the special fibres, is an integral plane projective rational quartic curve over the algebraic closure of the function field of the base. It has the remarkable property that the tangent lines at the non-singular points are either all bitangents or all non-ordinary inflection tangents; moreover it is strange, that is, all the tangent lines meet in a common point. We construct two fibrations that are universal in the sense that any other fibration with the aforementioned properties can be obtained from one of them by a base extension. Furthermore, among these fibrations we choose a pencil of plane quartic curves and study in detail its geometry. We determine the corresponding minimal regular model and we describe it as a purely inseparable double covering of a quasi-elliptic fibration.

Abstract:Let X be a compact, Kahler, Calabi-Yau threefold and suppose X ↦X_⇝Xt$X\mapsto \underline{X}\leadsto X_t$ , for t & ISIN;& UDelta;$t\in \Delta$, is a conifold transition obtained by contracting finitely many disjoint (-1,-1)$(-1,-1)$ curves in X and then smoothing the resulting ordinary double point singularities. We show that, for |t|MUCH LESS-THAN1$|t|\ll 1$ sufficiently small, the tangent bundle T1,0Xt$T<^>{1,0}X_{t}$ admits a Hermitian-Yang-Mills metric Ht$H_t$ with respect to the conformally balanced metrics constructed by Fu-Li-Yau. Furthermore, we describe the behavior of Ht$H_t$ near the vanishing cycles of Xt$X_t$ as t & RARR;0$t\rightarrow 0$.
