Abstract:bstract We show how one-loop corrections to scattering amplitudes of scalars and gauge bosons can be obtained from tree amplitudes in one higher dimension. Starting with a complete tree-level scattering amplitude of n + 2 particles in five dimensions, one assumes that two of them cannot be “detected” and therefore an integration over their LIPS is carried out. The resulting object, function of the remaining n particles, is taken to be four-dimensional by restricting the corresponding momenta. We perform this procedure in the context of the tree-level CHY formulation of amplitudes. The scattering equations obtained in the procedure coincide with those derived by Geyer et al. from ambitwistor constructions and recently studied by two of the authors for bi-adjoint scalars. They have two sectors of solutions: regular and singular. We prove that the contribution from regular solutions generically gives rise to unphysical poles. However, using a BCFW argument we prove that the unphysical contributions are always homogeneous functions of the loop momentum and can be discarded. We also show that the contribution from singular solutions turns out to be homogeneous as well.
Renormalization scheme factorization of one-loop Fierz identities

Abstract:We present a proof of the factorization of renormalization scheme in one-loop-corrected Fierz identities. This scheme factorization facilitates the simultaneous transformation of operator basis and renormalization scheme using only relations between physical operators; the evanescent operators in the respective bases may be chosen entirely independently of each other. The relations between evanescent operators in the two bases is automatically accounted for by the corrected Fierz identities. We illustrate the utility of this result with a two-loop anomalous dimension matrix computation using the Naive-Dimensional Regularization scheme, which is then transformed via one-loop Fierz identities to the known result in the literature given in a different basis and calculated in the Larin scheme. Additionally, we reproduce results from the literature of basis transformations involving the rotation of evanescent operators into the physical basis using our method, without the need to explicitly compute one-loop matrix elements of evanescent operators.

One-Loop Integrals from Spherical Projections of Planes and Quadrics

Abstract:We initiate a systematic study of one-loop integrals by investigating the connection between their singularity structures and geometric configurations in the projective space associated to their Feynman parametrization. We analyze these integrals by two recursive methods, which leads to two independent algebraic algorithms that determine the symbols of any one-loop integrals in arbitrary spacetime dimensions. The discontinuities of Feynman diagrams are shown to arise from taking certain "spherical contour" residues in Feynman parameter space, which is geometrically interpreted as a projection of the quadric surface (associated to the Symanzik polynomial at one loop) through faces of the integration region (which is a simplex). This geometry also leads to a manifestly Lorentz-invariant understanding for perturbative unitarity at one loop.
On differential operators and unifying relations for $1$-loop Feynman integrands

Abstract:We generalize the unifying relations for tree amplitudes to the $1$-loop Feynman integrands. By employing the $1$-loop CHY formula, we construct differential operators which transmute the $1$-loop gravitational Feynman integrand to Feynman integrands for a wide range of theories, include Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, Einstein-Maxwell theory, pure Yang-Mills theory, Yang-Mills-scalar theory, Born-Infeld theory, Dirac-Born-Infeld theory, bi-adjoint scalar theory, non-linear sigma model, as well as special Galileon theory. The unified web at $1$-loop level is established. Under the well known unitarity cut, the $1$-loop level operators will factorize into two tree level operators. Such factorization is also discussed.

Abstract:In a few recent papers we introduced the chirality-flow formalism, which builds on the spinor-helicity formalism, but incorporates the Fierz identity into the Feynman rules. Calculations at tree level are thereby trivial, often to the extent that it is possible to immediately write down a tree-level Feynman diagram in terms of spinor inner products. This simplification persists in tree-level computer implementations, giving very sizable speedups. In the present paper, we argue that there is also a significant simplification of the Lorentz structure at the one-loop level when using the four-dimensional formulation of the four-dimensional helicity scheme. As at tree level, the gauge reference vector for external gauge bosons, and the simplified Lorentz structure lead to significant shortening of the calculations. Abstract:We show that the forward limit of tree-level scattering equations with two massive particles yields the SL(2,C)-covariant form of the one-loop scattering equations recently proposed by Geyer et al. We clarify several properties about these equations and the formulas at one loop. We then argue that in the bi-adjoint scalar theory, such forward limit yields the correct one-loop massless amplitudes, which leads to a new formula for the latter.
On the finite basis topologies for multi-loop high-multiplicity Feynman integrals

Abstract:In this work, we systematically analyse Feynman integrals in the `t Hooft-Veltman scheme. We write an explicit reduction resulting from partial fractioning the high-multiplicity integrands to a finite basis of topologies at any given loop order. We find all of these finite basis topologies at two loops in four external dimensions. Their maximal cut and the leading singularity are expressed in terms of the Gram determinant and Baikov polynomial. By performing an Integration-By-Parts reduction without any cut constraint on a numerical probe for one of these topologies, we show that the computational complexity drops significantly compared to the Conventional Dimensional Regularization scheme. Formally, our work implies an upper bound on the rigidity of special functions appearing in the iterated integral solutions at each loop order in perturbative Quantum Field Theory. Phenomenologically, the integrand-level reduction we present will substantially simplify the task of providing high-precision predictions for future high-multiplicity collider observables.

One-loop integrability with shifting masses

Abstract:We investigate the perturbative integrability of two-dimensional massive quantum field theories with polynomial-like interactions and show that any theory of such class which is purely elastic at the tree level is also purely elastic at one loop. To preserve the elasticity, the physical renormalized masses of the theory must differ from the classical ones by quantum corrections carried by one-loop bubble diagrams. After the masses are corrected in this manner we show that one-loop inelastic processes vanish and integrability is preserved under one-loop effects. Relying on this fact we show that the closed expression for one-loop S-matrices in terms of tree S-matrices obtained in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2402.12087" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2402.12087">arXiv:2402.12087</a> extends to models that do not preserve the mass ratios at one loop. We test our results on the full class of nonsimply-laced affine Toda theories and find exact match with the S-matrices bootstrapped in the past.

Feynman integrals in two dimensions and single-valued hypergeometric functions

Abstract:We show that all Feynman integrals in two Euclidean dimensions with massless propagators and arbitrary non-integer propagator powers can be expressed in terms of single-valued analogues of Aomoto-Gelfand hypergeometric functions. The latter can themselves be written as bilinears of hypergeometric functions, with coefficients that are intersection numbers in a twisted homology group. As an application, we show that all one-loop integrals in two dimensions with massless propagators can be written in terms of Lauricella $F_D^{(r)}$ functions, while the $L$-loop ladder integrals are related to the generalised hypergeometric ${}_{L+1}F_L$ functions.

Abstract:Inspired by the recent work of Nima Arkani Hamed and collaborators who introduced the notion of positive geometry to account for the structure of tree-level scattering amplitudes in bi-adjoint theory, which led to one-loop descriptions of the integrands. Here, we consider the one-loop integrals themselves in theory. In order to achieve this end, the geometrical construction offered by Schnetz for Feynman diagrams is hereby extended, and the results are presented. The extension relies on masking the loop momentum variable with a constant and proceeding with the calculations. The results appear as a construction given in a diagrammatic manner. The significance of the resulting triangular diagrams is that they have a common side amongst themselves for the corresponding Feynman diagrams they pertain to. Further extensions to this mathematical construction can lead to additional insights into higher loops. A mathematica code has been provided in order to generate the final results given the initial parameters of the theory.

Abstract:We derive a general formula for two-loop counterterms in Effective Field Theories (EFTs) using a geometric approach. This formula allows the two-loop results of our previous paper to be applied to a wide range of theories. The two-loop results hold for loop graphs in EFTs where the interaction vertices contain operators of arbitrarily high dimension, but at most two derivatives. We also extend our previous one-loop result to include operators with an arbitrary number of derivatives, as long as there is at most one derivative acting on each field. The final result for the two-loop counterterms is written in terms of geometric quantities such as the Riemann curvature tensor of the scalar manifold and its covariant derivatives. As applications of our results, we give the two-loop counterterms and renormalization group equations for the O ( n ) EFT to dimension six, the scalar sector of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to dimension six, and chiral perturbation theory to order p 6 .

Abstract:Our work focuses on utilizing the Berends-Giele currents to construct differential operators and unifying relations for 1-loop Feynman integrands. We successfully reproduce the known results for the unifying relations between Yang-Mills theory and Yang-Mills scalar theory, and extend the discussion to the (A)dS case for the scalar theory with minimal coupling to gluons.

Finite Feynman Integrals

Abstract:We describe an algorithm to organize Feynman integrals in terms of their infrared properties. Our approach builds upon the theory of Landau singularities, which we use to classify all configurations of loop momenta that can give rise to infrared divergences. We then construct bases of numerators for arbitrary Feynman integrals, which cancel all singularities and render the integrals finite. Through the same analysis, one can also classify so-called evanescent and evanescently finite Feynman integrals. These are integrals whose vanishing or finiteness relies on properties of dimensional regularization. To illustrate the use of these integrals, we display how to obtain a simpler form for the leading-color two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitude through the choice of a suitable basis of finite integrals. In particular, when all gluon helicities are equal, we show that with our basis the most complicated double-box integrals do not contribute to the finite remainder of the scattering amplitude.

Abstract:We introduce a constructive method for defining a global loop-integrand basis for scattering amplitudes, encompassing both planar and nonplanar contributions. Our approach utilizes a graph-based framework to establish a well-defined, non-redundant basis of integrands. This basis, constructed from a chosen set of non-redundant graphs together with a selection of irreducible scalar products, provides clear insights into various physical properties of scattering amplitudes and proves useful in multiple contexts, such as on-shell Ward identities and manifesting gauge-choice independence. A key advantage of our integrand basis is its ability to streamline the generalized unitarity method. Specifically, we can directly read off the coefficients of basis elements without resorting to ansatze or solving linear equations. This novel approach allows us to lift generalized unitarity cuts -- expressed as products of tree amplitudes -- to loop-level integrands, facilitating the use of the tree-level double copy to generate complete gravitational integrands at any loop order. This method circumvents the difficulties in identifying complete higher-loop-order gauge-theory integrands that adhere to the color-kinematics duality. Additionally, our cut-based organization is well-suited for expansion in hard or soft limits, aiding in the exploration of ultraviolet or classical limits of scattering amplitudes.

Analytic structure of one-loop coefficients

Abstract:By the unitarity cut method, analytic expressions of one-loop coefficients have been given in spinor forms. In this paper, we present one-loop coefficients of various bases in Lorentz-invariant contraction forms of external momenta. Using these forms, the analytic structure of these coefficients becomes manifest. Firstly, coefficients of bases contain only second-type singularities while the first-type singularities are included inside scalar bases. Secondly, the highest degree of each singularity is correlated with the degree of the inner momentum in the numerator. Thirdly, the same singularities will appear in different coefficients, thus our explicit results could be used to provide a clear physical picture under various limits (such as soft or collinear limits) when combining contributions from all bases.

Alphabet of one-loop Feynman integrals

Abstract:In this paper, we present the universal structure of the alphabet of one-loop Feynman integrals. The letters in the alphabet are calculated using the Baikov representation with cuts. We consider both convergent and divergent cut integrals and observe that letters in the divergent cases can be easily obtained from convergent cases by applying certain limits. The letters are written as simple expressions in terms of various Gram determinants. The knowledge of the alphabet enables us to easily construct the canonical differential equations of the $ d\log $ form and aids in bootstrapping the symbols of the solutions.

Abstract:The Loop-Tree Duality (LTD) is a novel perturbative method in QFT that establishes a relation between loop-level and tree-level scattering amplitudes. This is achieved by directly applying the Residue Theorem to the loop-energy-integration. The result is a sum over all possible single cuts of the Feynman diagram in consideration integrated over a modified phase space. These single-cut integrals, called Dual contributions, are in fact tree-level objects and thus give rise to the opportunity of bringing loop- and tree-contributions together, treating them simultaneously in a common Monte Carlo event generator. Initially introduced for one-loop scalar integrals, the applicability of the LTD has been expanded ever since. In this thesis, we show how to deal with Feynman graphs beyond simple poles by taking advantage of Integration By Parts (IBP) relations. Furthermore, we investigate the cancellation of singularities among Dual contributions as well as between real and virtual corrections. For the first time, a numerical implementation of the LTD was done in the form of a computer program that calculates one-loop scattering diagrams. We present details on the contour deformation employed alongside the results for scalar integrals up to the pentagon- and tensor integrals up to the hexagon-level.
