Abstract:We characterize isotropic trialitarian triples in terms of the Schur indices of the underlying algebras over a base field $F$ of arbitrary characteristic satisfying $I_q^3 F=0$. We also construct anisotropic trialitarian triples over such fields.

Abstract:Working over an arbitrary base scheme, we provide an alternative development of triality which does not use Octonion algebras or symmetric composition algebras. Instead, we use the Clifford algebra of the split hyperbolic quadratic form of rank 8 and computations with Chevalley generators of groups of type $D_4$. Following the strategy of The Book of Involutions [KMRT], we then define the stack of trialitarian triples and show it is equivalent to the gerbe of $\mathbf{PGO}_8^+$--torsors. We show it has endomorphisms generating a group isomorphic to $\mathbb{S}_3$ and that several familiar cohomological properties of $\mathbf{PGO}_8^+$ follow in this setting as a result. Next, we define the stack of trialitarian algebras and show it is equivalent to the gerbe of $\mathbf{PGO}_8^+\rtimes \mathbb{S}_3$--torsors. Because of this, it is also equivalent to the gerbes of simply connected, respectively adjoint, groups of type $D_4$. We define $\mathbf{Spin}_\mathcal{T}$ and $\mathbf{PGO}^+_\mathcal{T}$ for a trialitarian algebra and define concrete functors $\mathcal{T} \mapsto \mathbf{Spin}_\mathcal{T}$ and $\mathcal{T} \mapsto \mathbf{PGO}^+_\mathcal{T}$ which realize these equivalences.

Abstract:Let $q$ be a quadratic form over a field $F$ and let $L$ be a field extension of $F$ of odd degree. It is a classical result that if $q_L$ is isotropic (resp. hyperbolic) then $q$ is isotropic (resp. hyperbolic). In turn, given two quadratic forms $q, q^\prime$ over $F$, if $q_L \cong q^\prime_L$ then $q \cong q^\prime$. It is natural to ask whether similar results hold for algebras with involution. We give a survey of the progress on these three questions with particular attention to the relevance of hyperbolicity, isotropy and isomorphism over some {appropriate} function field. Incidentally, we prove the anisotropy property in some {new} low degree cases.

Abstract:For an abelian variety A over a number field F, we prove that the average rank of the quadratic twists of A is bounded, under the assumption that the multiplication-by-3-isogeny on A factors as a composition of 3-isogenies over F. This is the first such boundedness result for an absolutely simple abelian variety A of dimension greater than 1. In fact, we exhibit such twist families in arbitrarily large dimension and over any number field. In dimension 1, we deduce that if E/F is an elliptic curve admitting a 3-isogeny, then the average rank of its quadratic twists is bounded. If F is totally real, we moreover show that a positive proportion of twists have rank 0 and a positive proportion have 3-Selmer rank 1. These results on bounded average ranks in families of quadratic twists represent new progress toward Goldfeld’s conjecture—which states that the average rank in the quadratic twist family of an elliptic curve over Q should be 1/2—and the first progress toward the analogous conjecture over number fields other than Q. Our results follow from a computation of the average size of the ϕ-Selmer group in the family of quadratic twists of an abelian variety admitting a 3-isogeny ϕ.

Abstract:We give two constructions of families of elliptic curves over cubic or quartic fields with three, respectively four, `integral' elements in the kernel of the tame symbol on the curves. The fields are in general non-Abelian, and the elements linearly independent. For their integrality, we prove a new criterion that does not ignore any torsion. We also verify Beilinson's conjecture numerically for just over 90 of the curves.

On trialities and their absolute geometries

Abstract:We introduce the notion of moving absolute geometry of a geometry with triality and show that, in the classical case where the triality is of type $(I_\sigma)$ and the absolute geometry is a generalized hexagon, the moving absolute geometry also gives interesting flag-transitive geometries with Buekenhout diagram with parameters $(d_p, g, d_L) = (5, 3, 6)$ for the groups $G_2(k)$ and $^3D_4(k)$, for any integer $k \geq 2$. We also classify the classical absolute geometries for geometries with trialities but no dualities coming from maps of Class III with automorphism group $L_2(q^3)$, where $q$ is a power of a prime. We then investigate the moving absolute geometries for these geometries, illustrating their interest in this case.

The $S_3$-symmetric tridiagonal algebra

Abstract:The tridiagonal algebra is defined by two generators and two relations, called the tridiagonal relations. Special cases of the tridiagonal algebra include the $q$-Onsager algebra, the positive part of the $q$-deformed enveloping algebra $U_q({\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}}_2)$, and the enveloping algebra of the Onsager Lie algebra. In this paper, we introduce the $S_3$-symmetric tridiagonal algebra. This algebra has six generators. The generators can be identified with the vertices of a regular hexagon, such that nonadjacent generators commute and adjacent generators satisfy a pair of tridiagonal relations. For a $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graph $\Gamma$ we turn the tensor power $V^{\otimes 3}$ of the standard module $V$ into a module for an $S_3$-symmetric tridiagonal algebra. We investigate in detail the case in which $\Gamma$ is a Hamming graph. We give some conjectures and open problems.

Abstract:Recently Bassa, Garcia and Stichtenoth constructed a tower of function fields over GF(q^3) having many rational places relative to their genera. We show that, by removing the bottom field from this tower, we obtain the same tower we would obtain by removing certain fields from a tower constructed previously by Bezerra, Garcia and Stichtenoth.

Abstract:Bisch and Jones suggested the skein theoretic classification of planar algebras and investigated the ones generated by 2-boxes with the second author. In this paper, we consider 3-box generators and classify subfactor planar algebras generated by a non-trivial 3-box satisfying a relation proposed by Thurston. The subfactor planar algebras in the classification are either $E^6$ or the ones from representations of quantum $SU(N)$. We introduce a new method to determine positivity of planar algebras and new techniques to reduce the complexity of computations.

Abstract:Let $A=\mathcal{A}(E,\sigma)$ be a $3$-dimensional quantum polynomial algebra where $E$ is $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ or a cubic divisor in $\mathbb{P}^{2}$, and $\sigma\in \mathrm{Aut}_{k}E$. Artin-Tate-Van den Bergh proved that $A$ is finite over its center if and only if the order $|\sigma|$ of $\sigma$ is finite. As a categorical analogy of their result, the author and Mori showed that the following conditions are equivalent; (1) $|\nu^{\ast}\sigma^{3}|<\infty$, where $\nu$ is the Nakayama automorphism of $A$. (2) The norm $\|\sigma\|$ of $\sigma$ is finite. (3) The quantum projective plane $\mathsf{Proj}_{\rm nc}A$ is finite over its center. In this paper, we will prove for Type S' algebra $A$ that the following conditions are equivalent; (1) $\mathsf{Proj}_{\rm nc}A$ is finite over its center. (2) The Beilinson algebra $\nabla A$ of $A$ is $2$-representation tame. (3) The isomorphism classes of simple $2$-regular modules over $\nabla A$ are parametrized by $\mathbb{P}^{2}$.

Abstract:We prove an $S_{3}$-symmetry of the Jacobi identity for intertwining operator algebras. Since this Jacobi identity involves the braiding and fusing isomorphisms satisfying the genus-zero Moore-Seiberg equations, our proof uses not only the basic properties of intertwining operators, but also the properties of braiding and fusing isomorphisms and the genus-zero Moore-Seiberg equations. Our proof depends heavily on the theory of multivalued analytic functions of several variables, especially the theory of analytic extensions.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that an imaginary quadratic field F has the ideal class group isomorphic to Z/2Z circle plus Z/2Z if and only if the Ono number of F is 3 and F has exactly 3 ramified primes under the Extended Riemann Hypothesis (ERH). Quantum Grassmannians and their Associated Quantum Schubert Varieties at roots of unity

Abstract:We study the PI degree of various quantum algebras at roots of unity, including quantum Grassmannians, quantum Schubert varieties, partition subalgebras, and their associated quantum affine spaces. By a theorem of De Concini and Procesi, the PI degree of partition subalgebras and their associated quantum affine spaces is controlled by skew-symmetric integral matrices associated to (Cauchon-Le) diagrams. We prove that the invariant factors of these matrices are always powers of 2. This allows us to compute explicitly the PI degree of partition subalgebras. Our results also apply to certain completely prime (homogeneous) quotients of partition subalgebras. In particular, our results allow us to extend results of Jakobsen and Jondrup regarding the PI degree of quantum determinantal rings at roots of unity [JJ01] and we present a method to construct an irreducible representation of maximal dimension for quantum determinantal ideals. Building on these results, we use the strong connection between partition subalgebras and quantum Schubert varieties through noncommutative dehomogenisation [LR08] to obtain expressions for the PI degree of quantum Schubert varieties. In particular, we compute the PI degree of quantum Grassmannians.

Abstract:In this paper we study the structure of the $3-$part of the ideal class group of a certain family of real cyclotomic fields with $3-$class number exactly $9$ and conductor equal to the product of two distinct odd primes. We employ known results from Class Field Theory as well as theoretical and numerical results on real cyclic sextic fields, and we show that the $3-$part of the ideal class group of such cyclotomic fields must be cyclic. We present four examples of fields that fall into our category, namely the fields of conductor $3 \cdot 331$, $7 \cdot 67$, $3 \cdot 643$ and $7 \cdot 257$, and they are the only ones amongst all real cyclotomic fields with conductor $pq \leq 2021$. The $3-$part of the class number for the two fields of conductor $3 \cdot 643$ and $7 \cdot 257$ was up to now unknown and we compute it in this paper.
