Abstract:We study waves on infinite one-dimensional lattices of particles that each interact with all others through power-law forces $F \sim r^{-\beta}$. The inverse-cube case corresponds to Calogero-Moser systems, which are well known to be completely integrable for any finite number of particles. The formal long-wave limit for unidirectional waves in these lattices is the Korteweg-de Vries equation if $\beta >4$, but with $2<\beta <4$ it is a nonlocal dispersive PDE that reduces to the Benjamin-Ono equation for $\beta=3$. For the infinite Calogero-Moser lattice, we find explicit formulas that describe solitary and periodic traveling waves.

We discover a relatively simple condition which when placed on the nature of the randomness allows us to prove that small amplitude/long wavelength solutions are almost surely rigorously approximated by solutions of Korteweg–de Vries equations for very long times. The key ideas combine energy estimates with homogenization theory and the technical proof requires a novel application of autoregressive processes.

On Strong Zero-Dispersion Asymptotics for Benjamin-Ono Soliton Ensembles

Abstract:A soliton ensemble is a particular kind of approximation of the solution of an initial-value problem for an integrable equation by a reflectionless potential that is well adapted to singular asymptotics like the small-dispersion limit. We study soliton ensembles for the Benjamin-Ono equation by using reasonable hypotheses to develop local approximations that capture highly oscillatory features of the solution and hence provide more information than weak convergence results that are easier to obtain. These local approximations are deduced independently from empirically-observed but unproven distributions of eigenvalues of two related matrices, one Hermitian and another non-Hermitian. We perform careful numerical experiments to study the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of these matrices in the small-dispersion limit, and formulate conjectures reflecting our observations. Then we apply the conjectures to construct the local approximations of slowly varying profiles and rapidly oscillating profiles as well. We show that the latter profiles are consistent with the predictions of Whitham modulation theory as originally developed for the Benjamin-Ono equation by Dobrokhotov and Krichever.

Abstract:A finite-dimensional quantum system is coupled to a bath of oscillators in thermal equilibrium at temperature T > 0 . We show that for fixed, small values of the coupling constant λ , the true reduced dynamics of the system is approximated by the completely positive, trace preserving Markovian semigroup generated by the Davies-Lindblad generator. The difference between the true and the Markovian dynamics is O ( | λ | 1 / 4 ) for all times, meaning that the solution of the Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad master equation is approximating the true dynamics to accuracy O ( | λ | 1 / 4 ) for all times. Our method is based on a recently obtained expansion of the full system-bath propagator. It applies to reservoirs with correlation functions decaying in time as 1 / t 4 or faster, which is a significant improvement relative to the previously required exponential decay.

Abstract:In this paper, the Kudryashov method to construct the new exact solitary wave solutions for the newly developed (2+1)-dimensional Benjamin-Ono equation is successfully employed. In the same vein, also the new (2+1)-dimensional Benjamin-Ono equation to (3+1)-dimensional spaces is extended and then analyzed and investigated. Different forms of exact solitary wave solutions to this new equation were also determined. Graphical illustrations for certain solutions in both equations are provided. We alternatively offer that the determining method is general, impressive, outspoken, and powerful and can be exerted to create exact solutions of various kinds of nonlinear models originated in mathematical physics and engineering.

Abstract:We prove local well-posedness of the Benjamin-Ono equation for a class of bounded initial data including periodic and bore-like functions. As a consequence, we obtain local well-posedness in $H^s(\mathbb{R})+H^\sigma(\mathbb{T})$ for $s>\frac{1}{2}$ and $\sigma>\frac{7}{2}$. These results follow by studying a generalized forced Benjamin-Ono equation.

Abstract:We present a new type of integrable one-dimensional many-body systems called a one-parameter Calogero–Moser system. At the discrete level, the Lax pairs with a parameter are introduced and the discrete-time equations of motion are obtained as together with the corresponding discrete-time Lagrangian. The integrability property of this new system can be expressed in terms of the discrete Lagrangian closure relation by using a connection with the temporal Lax matrices of the discrete-time Ruijsenaars–Schneider system, an exact solution, and the existence of a classical -matrix. As the parameter tends to zero, the standard Calogero–Moser system is recovered in both discrete-time and continuous-time forms.

Numerical approximations of a lattice Boltzmann scheme with a family of partial differential equations

Abstract:In this contribution, we address the numerical solutions of high-order asymptotic equivalent partial differential equations with the results of a lattice Boltzmann scheme for an inhomogeneous advection problem in one spatial dimension. We first derive a family of equivalent partial differential equations at various orders, and we compare the lattice Boltzmann experimental results with a spectral approximation of the differential equations. For an unsteady situation, we show that the initialization scheme at a sufficiently high order of the microscopic moments plays a crucial role to observe an asymptotic error consistent with the orderof approximation. For a stationary long-time limit, we observe that the measured asymptotic error converges with a reduced order of precision compared to the one suggested by asymptotic analysis.

Abstract:We study the harmonic locus consisting of the monodromy-free Schrödinger operators with rational potential and quadratic growth at infinity. It is known after Oblomkov that it can be identified with the set of all partitions via the Wronskian map for Hermite polynomials. We show that the harmonic locus can also be identified with the subset of the Calogero--Moser space introduced by Wilson, which is fixed by the symplectic action of $\mathbb C^\times.$ As a corollary, for the multiplicity-free part of the locus we effectively solve the inverse problem for the Wronskian map by describing the partition in terms of the spectrum of the corresponding Moser matrix. We also compute the characters of the $\mathbb C^\times$-action at the fixed points, proving, in particular, a conjecture of Conti and Masoero. In the Appendix written by N. Nekrasov there is an alternative proof of this result, based on the space of instantons and ADHM construction.

Quantum generalized Calogero-Moser systems from free Hamiltonian reduction

Abstract:The one-dimensional system of particles with a $1/x^2$ repulsive potential is known as the Calogero-Moser system. Its classical version can be generalised by substituting the coupling constants with additional degrees of freedom, which span the $\mathfrak{so}(N)$ or $\mathfrak{su}(N)$ algebra with respect to Poisson brackets. We present the quantum version of this generalized model. As the classical generalization is obtained by a symplectic reduction of a free system, we present a method of obtaining a quantum system along similar lines. The reduction of a free quantum system results in a Hamiltonian, which preserves the differences in dynamics of the classical system depending on the underlying, orthogonal or unitary, symmetry group. The orthogonal system is known to be less repulsive than the unitary one, and the reduced free quantum Hamiltonian manifests this trait through an additional attractive term $\sum_{i<j}\frac{-\hbar^2}{(x_i-x_j)^2}$, which is absent when one performs the straightforward Dirac quantization of the considered system. We present a detailed and rigorous derivation of the generalized quantum Calogero-Moser Hamiltonian, we find the spectra and wavefunctions for the number of particles $N=2,3$, and we diagonalize the Hamiltonian partially for a general value of $N$.

Sharp well-posedness for the Benjamin--Ono equation

Abstract:The Benjamin--Ono equation is shown to be well-posed, both on the line and on the circle, in the Sobolev spaces $H^s$ for $s>-\tfrac12$. The proof rests on a new gauge transformation and benefits from our introduction of a modified Lax pair representation of the full hierarchy. As we will show, these developments yield important additional dividends beyond well-posedness, including (i) the unification of the diverse approaches to polynomial conservation laws; (ii) a generalization of Gérard's explicit formula to the full hierarchy; and (iii) new virial-type identities covering all equations in the hierarchy.

Towards an Approximation Theory of Observable Operator Models

Abstract:Observable operator models (OOMs) offer a powerful framework for modelling stochastic processes, surpassing the traditional hidden Markov models (HMMs) in generality and efficiency. However, using OOMs to model infinite-dimensional processes poses significant theoretical challenges. This article explores a rigorous approach to developing an approximation theory for OOMs of infinite-dimensional processes. Building upon foundational work outlined in an unpublished tutorial [Jae98], an inner product structure on the space of future distributions is rigorously established and the continuity of observable operators with respect to the associated 2-norm is proven. The original theorem proven in this thesis describes a fundamental obstacle in making an infinite-dimensional space of future distributions into a Hilbert space. The presented findings lay the groundwork for future research in approximating observable operators of infinite-dimensional processes, while a remedy to the encountered obstacle is suggested.

Generalized Calogero-Sutherland models for Kondo physics in the Luttinger liquid

Abstract:We propose a series of models with inverse-square interactions, for which the ground states have an exact closed form, that describe one localized spin-$1/2$ Kondo impurity coupled to Luttinger liquids of itinerant bosons or fermions in the continuum or on a lattice. The model Hamiltonians contain two parts: a two-component Calogero-Sutherland model with open boundary condition in the continuum or a long-range $t \textendash J$-type model on the lattice, and long-range Kondo couplings between the impurity and the particles. The wave functions of the ground states in a certain basis have Jastrow product forms with powers depending on the particle statistics. It is shown that the wave functions can be expressed as chiral correlators of certain conformal field theories, which reveals that the particles are fractionalized to fully screen the Kondo impurity. This insight would be very useful in future studies on the very difficult problem of Kondo physics with interacting baths.

On the computation of lattice sums without translational invariance

Abstract:This paper introduces a new method for the efficient computation of oscillatory multidimensional lattice sums in geometries with boundaries. Such sums are ubiquitous in both pure and applied mathematics, and have immediate applications in condensed matter physics and topological quantum physics. The challenge in their evaluation results from the combination of singular long-range interactions with the loss of translational invariance caused by the boundaries, rendering standard tools ineffective. Our work shows that these lattice sums can be generated from a generalization of the Riemann zeta function to multidimensional non-periodic lattice sums. We put forth a new representation of this zeta function together with a numerical algorithm that ensures exponential convergence across an extensive range of geometries. Notably, our method's runtime is influenced only by the complexity of the considered geometries and not by the number of particles, providing the foundation for efficient simulations of macroscopic condensed matter systems. We showcase the practical utility of our method by computing interaction energies in a three-dimensional crystal structure with $3\times 10^{23}$ particles. Our method's accuracy is demonstrated through extensive numerical experiments. A reference implementation is provided online along with this article.

Abstract:Recently, it was shown that fractional quantum Hall states can be defined on fractal lattices. Proposed exact parent Hamiltonians for these states are nonlocal and contain three-site terms. In this work, we look for simpler, approximate parent Hamiltonians for bosonic Laughlin states at half filling, which contain only onsite potentials and two-site hopping with the interaction generated implicitly by hardcore constraints (as in the Hofstadter and Kapit-Mueller models on periodic lattices). We use an ``inverse method'' to determine such Hamiltonians on finite-generation Sierpiński carpet and triangle lattices. The ground states of some of the resulting models display relatively high overlap with the model states if up to third neighbor hopping terms are considered, and by increasing the maximum hopping distance one can achieve nearly perfect overlaps. When the number of particles is reduced and additional potentials are introduced to trap quasiholes, the overlap with a model quasihole wavefunction is also high in some cases, especially for the nonlocal Hamiltonians. We also study how the small system size affects the braiding properties for the model quasihole wavefunctions and perform analogous computations for Hamiltonian models.
