Abstract:Recent work of Schenck, Stillman and Yuan <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2011.10871" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.10871">arXiv:2011.10871</a> outlines all possible Betti tables for Artin Gorenstein algebras $A$ with regularity($A$) = 4 = codim($A$). We populate the second half of this list with examples of stable curves, and ask if there are further possible constructions. The problem of deformation between curves with the same Hilbert series but different Betti tables is ongoing work, but our work solves one case: a deformation (due to Jan Stevens) between a reducible curve corresponding to Betti table type 2.7 in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2011.10871" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.10871">arXiv:2011.10871</a> and the curve obtained as the intersection of a del Pezzo surface of degree 5 and a cubic hypersurface.

Abstract:Recent work of Ablett <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2112.03400" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2112.03400">arXiv:2112.03400</a> and Kapustka, Kapustka, Ranestad, Schenck, Stillman and Yuan <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2111.05817" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.05817">arXiv:2111.05817</a> outlines a number of constructions for singular Gorenstein codimension four varieties. Earlier work of Coughlan, Gołȩbiowski, Kapustka and Kapustka <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1609.01195" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1609.01195">arXiv:1609.01195</a> details a series of nonsingular Gorenstein codimension four constructions with different Betti tables. In this paper we exhibit a number of flat deformations between Gorenstein codimension four varieties in the same Hilbert scheme, realising many of the singular varieties as specialisations of the earlier nonsingular varieties.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a geometric counterpart of the cyclic vector which allow us to put a rank 2 meromorphic connection on a curve into a ``companion'' normal form. This allow us to naturally identify an open set of the moduli space of $\mathrm{GL}_2$-connections (with fixed generic spectral data, i.e. unramified, non resonant) with some Hilbert scheme of points on the twisted cotangent bundle of the curve. We prove that this map is symplectic, therefore providing Darboux (or canonical) coordinates on the moduli space, i.e. separation of variables. On the other hand, for $\mathrm{SL}_2$-connections, we give an explicit formula for the symplectic structure for a birational model given by Matsumoto. We finally detail the case of an elliptic curve with a divisor of degree $2$.

Szegő kernels and Scorza quartics on the moduli space of spin curves

Abstract:We describe an extension at the level of the moduli space of stable spin curves of genus g of the map associating to an ineffective spin structure its Scorza curve (equivalently, the vanishing locus of its Szegő kernel). We compute the class of the Szegő-Hodge bundle, then find an unconditional new interpretation, in terms of theta constants, of the Scorza quartic uniquely associated to an even spin structure. Our results describe the superperiod map from the moduli space of supersymmetric curves in the neighborhood of the theta-null divisor and provide a lower bound for the slope of the movable cone of the moduli space of spin curves.

Abstract:We study the standard family of supercurves of genus 1 with an underlying odd spin structures. We give a simple algebraic description of this family and of the compactified family of stable supercurves with one Neveu-Schwarz puncture. We also describe the Gauss-Manin connection on the first de Rham cohomology of this family and compute the superperiods of global differentials.

Abstract:We prove the genus zero part of the generalized Witten conjecture relating moduli spaces of spin curves to Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies. That is, we show that intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable r-spin curves assemble into a generating function which yields a solution of the semiclassical limit of the KdV_r equations. We formulate axioms for a cohomology class on this moduli space which allow one to construct a cohomological field theory of rank $r-1$ in all genera. In genus zero it produces a Frobenius manifold which is isomorphic to the Frobenius manifold structure on the base of the versal deformation of the A_{r-1} singularity. We prove analogs of the puncture, dilaton, and topological recursion relations by drawing an analogy with the construction of Gromov-Witten invariants and quantum cohomology.

Abstract:Ein, Niu and Park showed in [ENP20] that if the degree of the line bundle L on a curve of genus g is at least 2g+2k+1 , the k -th secant variety of the curve via the embedding defined by the complete linear system of L is normal, projectively normal and arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay, and they also proved some vanishing of the Betti diagrams. However, the length of the linear strand of weight k+1 of the resolution of the secant variety Σk of a curve of g≥2 is still mysterious. In this paper we calculate the complete Betti diagrams of the secant varieties of curves of genus 2 using Boij-Söderberg theory. The main idea is to find the pure diagrams that contribute to the Betti diagram of the secant variety via calculating some special positions of the Betti diagram.

Abstract:We study the syzygies of the canonical embedding of a ribbon $\widetilde{C}$ on a curve $C$ of genus $g \geq 1$. We show that the linear series Clifford index and the resolution Clifford index are equal for a general ribbon of arithmetic genus $p_a$ on a general curve of genus $g$ with $p_{a} \geq \operatorname{max}\{3g+7, 6g-4\}$. Among non-general ribbons, the case of split ribbons is particularly interesting. Equality of the two Clifford indices for a split ribbon is related to the gonality conjecture for $C$ and it implies Green's conjecture for all double covers $C'$ of $C$ with $g(C') \geq \textrm{max}\{3g+2, 6g-4\}$. We reduce it to the vanishing of certain Koszul cohomology groups of an auxiliary module of syzygies associated to $C$, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:We describe an algebra of meromorphic functions on the Siegel domain of genus two which contains Siegel modular forms for an arithmetic index six subgroup of the symplectic group, which is closed under three canonical derivations of the Siegel domain. The main ingredients of our study are the moduli of enhanced genus two curves, Gauss-Manin connection and the modular vector fields living on such moduli spaces.
The twisted G$_2$ equation for strong G$_2$-structures with torsion

Abstract:We discuss general properties of strong G$_2$-structures with torsion and we investigate the twisted G$_2$ equation, which represents the G$_2$-analogue of the twisted Calabi-Yau equation for SU$(n)$-structures introduced by Garcia-Fernández - Rubio - Shahbazi - Tipler. In particular, we show that invariant strong G$_2$-structures with torsion do not occur on compact non-flat solvmanifolds. This implies the non-existence of non-trivial solutions to the twisted Calabi-Yau equation on compact solvmanifolds of dimensions $4$ and $6$. More generally, we prove that a compact, connected homogeneous space admitting invariant strong G$_2$-structures with torsion is diffeomorphic either to $S^3 \times T^4$ or to $S^3 \times S^3 \times S^1$, up to a covering, and that in both cases solutions to the twisted G$_2$ equation exist. Finally, we discuss the behavior of the homogeneous Laplacian coflow for strong G$_2$-structures with torsion on these spaces.

Monodromy and vanishing cycles for complete intersection curves

Abstract:We compute the topological monodromy of every family of complete intersection curves. Like in the case of plane curves previously treated by the second-named author, we find the answer is given by the $r$-spin mapping class group associated to the maximal root of the adjoint line bundle. Our main innovation is a suite of tools for studying the monodromy of sections of a tensor product of very ample line bundles in terms of the monodromy of sections of the factors, allowing for an induction on (multi-)degree.

Abstract:We obtain a correspondence between irreducible real parallel spinors on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds $(M,g)$ of signature $(4,3)$ and solutions of an associated differential system for three-forms that satisfy a homogeneous algebraic equation of order two in the Kähler-Atiyah bundle of $(M,g)$. Applying this general framework, we obtain an intrinsic algebraic characterization of $\mathrm{G}_2^*$-structures as well as the first explicit description of isotropic irreducible spinors in signature $(4,3)$ that are parallel under a general connection on the spinor bundle. This description is given in terms of a coherent system of mutually orthogonal and isotropic one forms and follows from the characterization of the stabilizer of an isotropic spinor as the stabilizer of a highly degenerate three-form that we construct explicitly. Using this result, we show that isotropic spinors parallel under a metric connection with torsion exist when the connection preserves the aforementioned coherent system. This allows us to construct a natural class of metrics of signature $(4,3)$ on $\mathbb{R}^7$ that admit spinors parallel under a metric connection with torsion.

Abstract:Working over imperfect fields, we give a comprehensive classification of genus-one curves that are regular but not geometrically regular, extending the known case of geometrically reduced curves. The description is given intrinsically, in terms of twisted forms of standard models with respect to infinitesimal group scheme actions, and not via extrinsic equations. The main new idea is to analyze and exploit moduli for fields of representatives in Cohen's Structure Theorem. The results serve for the understanding of genus-one fibrations over higher-dimensional bases.

Abstract:Let $C$ be an integral and projective curve whose canonical model $C'$ lies on a rational normal scroll $S$ of dimension $n$. We mainly study some properties on $C$, such as gonality and the kind of singularities, in the case where $n=2$ and $C$ is non-Gorenstein, and in the case where $n=3$, the scroll $S$ is smooth, and $C'$ is a local complete intersection inside $S$. We also prove that a rational monomial curve with just one singular point lies on a surface scroll if and only if its gonality is at most $3$, and that it lies on a threefold scroll if and only if its gonality is at most $4$.

Abstract:Distinctive characteristics of Iwanaga‚ÄďGorenstein rings are typically understood through their intrinsic symmetry. We show that several of those that pertain to the Gorenstein global dimensions carry over to the one-sided situation, even without the noetherian hypothesis. Our results yield new relations among homological invariants related to the Gorenstein property, not only Gorenstein global dimensions but also the suprema of projective/injective dimensions of injective/projective modules and finitistic dimensions.
