Abstract:Over a global field (number field or function field of a curve over a finite field), theorems for the Galois cohomology of algebraic groups have long been known. For $F$ the function field of a curve over the formal series field $\mathbb{C}((t))$, under an additional assumption on the curve, we establish an explicit description of the localization map in Galois cohomology. This is achieved by extending the theory of $B(F,G)$ due to Kottwitz.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a certain affine algebraic surface over $\mathbb{Q}$ such that it admits a regular map to $\mathbb{A}^2/\mathbb{Q}$. We show that any non-trivial torsion line bundle in the relative Picard group $Pic^0\left(S/\mathbb{A}^2\right)$ can be pulled back to ideal classes of quadratic fields whose order can be made sufficiently large. This gives an affirmative answer to a question raised by Agboola and Pappas, in case of affine algebraic surfaces. For a closed point $P\in \mathbb{A}^2/\mathbb{Q}$, we show that the cardinality of a subgroup of the Picard group of the fiber $S_P$ remains unchanged when $P$ varies over a Zarisky open subset in $\mathbb{A}^2$. We also show by constructing an element of odd order $n\geq 3$ in the class group of certain imaginary quadratic fields that the Picard group of $S_P$ has a subgroup isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the FPP conjecture, giving a strong upper bound on the unitary dual of a real reductive group. Our proof is an application of the global generation properties of $\mathcal{D}$-modules on the flag variety and their Hodge filtrations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study rationality properties of reductive group actions which are defined over an arbitrary field of characteristic zero. Thereby, we unify Luna's theory of spherical systems and Borel-Tits' theory of reductive groups. In particular, we define for any reductive group action a generalized Tits index whose main constituents are a root system and a generalization of the anisotropic kernel. The index controls to a large extent the behavior at infinity (i.e., embeddings). For k-spherical varieties (i.e., where a minimal parabolic has an open orbit) we obtain explicit (wonderful) completions of the set of rational points. For local fields this means honest compactifications generalizing the maximal Satake compactification of a symmetric space. Our main tool is a k-version of the local structure theorem.

Abstract:In this article, we classify disconnected reductive groups over an algebraically closed field with a few caveats. Internal parts of our result are both a classification of finite groups and a classification of integral representations of a fixed finite group. Modulo these classifications - which are impossible in different senses - our main result explicitly tabulates the groups with an efficient algorithm. Besides this, we obtain new results about the representation theory of disconnected reductive groups in characteristic zero. We give two descriptions of their representation rings and prove that their Knutson Index is finite.

Abstract:Given an integral domain D and a D -algebra R , we introduce the local Picard group as the quotient between the Picard group and the canonical image of in , and its subgroup generated by the the integral ideals of R that are unitary with respect to D . We show that, when is a ring extension that satisfies certain properties (for example, when R is the ring of polynomial D [ X ] or the ring of integer-valued polynomials ), it is possible to decompose as the direct sum , where T ranges in a Jaffard family of D . We also study under what hypothesis this isomorphism holds for pre-Jaffard families of D .

Abstract:We compute the algebraic Picard group of the category of $K(n)$-local spectra, for all heights $n$ and all primes $p$. In particular, we show that it is always finitely generated over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ and, whenever $n \geq 2$, is of rank $2$, thereby confirming a prediction made by Hopkins in the early 1990s. In fact, with the exception of the anomalous case $n=p=2$, we provide a full set of topological generators for these groups. Our arguments rely on recent advances in $p$-adic geometry to translate the problem to a computation on Drinfeld's symmetric space, which can then be solved using results of Colmez--Dospinescu--Niziol.

On The Telescopic Picard Group

Abstract:We prove that for any prime $p$ and height $n \ge 1$, the telescopic Picard group $\mathrm{Pic}(\mathrm{Sp}_{Tn})$ contains a subgroup of the form $\mathbb{Z}_p \times \mathbb{Z}/a_p(p^n-1)$, where $a_p = 1$ if $p = 2$ and $a_p = 2$ if $p$ is odd. Using Kummer theory, we obtain an $(\mathbb{F}_{p^n}^\times \rtimes \mathbb{Z}/n)$-Galois extension of $\mathbb{S}_{T(n)}$, obtaining the first example of a lift of a non-Abelian Galois extension of the $K(n)$-local sphere to the telescopic world, at arbitrary positive height and prime. Our proof proceeds by setting up a higher categorical framework for the periodicity theorem, utilizing the symmetries of this framework to construct Picard elements.

Let $\sigma$ denote a standard Frobenius automorphism of $G$ such that $G_\sigma\cong G_2(q)$ with $q\geq 4$. In this paper we find all reductive subgroups of $G$ and quasi-simple subgroups of $G_\sigma$ in the defining characteristic.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Picard group of the Baily-Borel compactification of orthogonal Shimura varieties. As a result, we determine the Picard group of the Baily-Borel compactification of the moduli space of quasi-polarized K3 surfaces. Interestingly, in contrast to the situation observed in the moduli space of curves, we find that the Picard group of the Baily-Borel compactification is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}$.

An equivariant compactification for adjoint reductive group schemes

Abstract:Wonderful compactifications of adjoint reductive groups over an algebraically closed field play an important role in algebraic geometry and representation theory. In this paper, we construct an equivariant compactification for adjoint reductive groups over arbitrary base schemes. Our compactifications parameterize classical wonderful compactifications of De Concini and Procesi as geometric fibers. Our construction is based on a variant of the Artin-Weil method of birational group laws. In particular, our construction gives a new intrinsic construction of wonderful compactifications. The Picard group scheme of our compactifications is computed. We also discuss several applications of our compactification in the study of torsors under reductive group schemes.

Abstract:We study Picard groups and Picard functors of perfectoid spaces which are limits of rigid spaces. For sufficiently large covers that are limits of rigid spaces of good reduction, we show that the Picard functor can be represented by the special fibre. We use our results to answer several open questions about Picard groups of perfectoid spaces from the literature, for example we show that these are not always $p$-divisible. Along the way, we construct a "Hodge--Tate spectral sequence for $\mathbb G_m$" of independent interest.

Abstract:We discuss various connections between ideal classes, divisors, Picard and Chow groups of one-dimensional noetherian domains. As a result of these, we give a method to compute Chow groups of orders in global fields and show that there are infinitely many number fields which contain orders with trivial Chow groups.

Abstract:Let K be a global field, that is, a number field or a global function field. It is known that the answer to the question in the title over K is "Yes" when K has no real embeddings. We show that otherwise the answer is "No". Namely, we show that when K is a number field admitting a real embedding, it is impossible to define a group structure on the first Galois cohomology sets H^1(K,G) for all reductive K-groups G in a functorial way.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field with odd characteristic $p$. Let $N$ be a positive integer and $G=Sp_{2N}(F)$. By work of Lomelí on $\gamma$-factors of pairs and converse theorems, a generic supercuspidal representation $\pi$ of $G$ has a transfer to a smooth irreducible representation $\Pi_\pi$ of $GL_{2N+1}(F)$. In turn the Weil-Deligne representation $\Sigma_\pi$ associated to $\Pi_\pi$ by the Langlands correspondence determines a Langlands parameter $\phi_\pi$ for $\pi$. That process produces a Langlands correspondence for generic cuspidal representations of $G$. In this paper we take $\pi$ to be simple in the sense of Gross and Reeder, and from the explicit construction of $\pi$ we describe $\Pi_\pi$ explicitly. The method we use is the same as in our previous paper <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2310.20455" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.20455">arXiv:2310.20455</a>, where we treated the case where $F$ is a $p$-adic field, and $\pi$ a simple supercuspidal representation of $G=Sp_{2N}(F)$. It relies on a criterion due to Moeglin on the reducibility of representations parabolically induced from $GL_M(F)\times G$ for varying positive integers $M$. We extend this criterion to the case when $F$ has any positive characteristic. The main new feature consists in relating reducibility to $\gamma$-factors for pairs.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a reductive Chevalley group scheme (defined over $\mathbb{Z}$). Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a smooth, projective, geometrically integral curve over a field $\mathbb{F}$. Let $P$ be a closed point on $\mathcal{C}$. Let $A$ be the ring of functions that are regular outside $\lbrace P \rbrace$. The fraction field $k$ of $A$ has a discrete valuation $\nu=\nu_{P}: k^{\times} \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}$ associated to $P$. In this work, we study the action of the group $ \textbf{G}(A)$ of $A$-points of $\mathbf{G}$ on the Bruhat-Tits building $\mathcal{X}=\mathcal{X}(\textbf{G},k,\nu_{P})$ in order to describe the structure of the orbit space $ \textbf{G}(A)\backslash \mathcal{X}$. We obtain that this orbit space is the ``gluing'' of a closed connected CW-complex with some sector chambers. The latter are parametrized by a set depending on the Picard group of $\mathcal{C} \smallsetminus \{P\}$ and on the rank of $\mathbf{G}$. Moreover, we observe that any rational sector face whose tip is a special vertex contains a subsector face that embeds into this orbit space.
