Abstract:We obtain critical embeddings and the concentration-compactness principle for the anisotropic variable exponent Sobolev spaces. As an application of these results,we confirm the existence of and find infinitely many nontrivial solutions for a class of nonlinear critical anisotropic elliptic equations involving variable exponents and two real parameters. With the groundwork laid in this work, there is potential for future extensions, particularly in extending the concentration-compactness principle to anisotropic fractional order Sobolev spaces with variable exponents in bounded domains. This extension could find applications in solving the generalized fractional Brezis-Nirenberg problem.

Abstract:We consider the one and the two obstacles problems for the nonlocal nonlinear anisotropic $g$-Laplacian $\mathcal{L}_g^s$, with $0<s<1$. We prove the strict T-monotonicity of $\mathcal{L}_g^s$ and we obtain the Lewy-Stampacchia inequalities. We consider the approximation of the solutions through semilinear problems, for which we prove a global $L^\infty$-estimate, and we extend the local Hölder regularity to the solutions of the obstacle problems in the case of the fractional $p(x,y)$-Laplacian operator. We make further remarks on a few elementary properties of related capacities in the fractional generalised Orlicz framework, with a special reference to the Hilbertian nonlinear case in fractional Sobolev spaces.

The primary techniques employed consist of variational methods for Locally Lipschitz functional applied to fractional Orlicz–Sobolev space. Our main results generalize some recent findings in the literature to non-smooth cases.

Abstract:In this work, we aim to explore whether a novel type of fractional space can be defined using Orlicz spaces and fractional calculus. This inquiry is fruitful, as extending classical results to new contexts can lead to a better and deeper understanding of those classical results. Our main objective is to introduce a new fractional Caputo-derivative Orlicz space, denoted by $\mathcal{O}^{\alpha,G}(\Lambda, \mathbb{R}) $. We are interested in several qualitative properties of this space, such as reflexivity, completeness, and separability. Additionally, we establish a continuous embedding results of this space into a suitable Orlicz space and the space of continuous functions. As an application, we use the mountain-pass theorem (MPT) to ensure the existence of a nontrivial weak solution for a new class of fractional-type problems in Orlicz space.

Abstract:In this work we use variational methods to prove results on existence and concentration of solutions to a problem in $\mathbb{R}^N$ involving the $1-$Laplacian operator. A thorough analysis on the energy functional defined in the space of functions of bounded variation $BV(\mathbb{R}^N)$ is necessary, where the lack of compactness is overcome by using the Concentration of Compactness Principle of Lions.

Abstract:Necessary and sufficient conditions are presented for a fractional Orlicz-Sobolev space on to be continuously embedded into a space of uniformly continuous functions. The optimal modulus of continuity is exhibited whenever these conditions are fulfilled. These results pertain to the supercritical Sobolev regime and complement earlier sharp embeddings into rearrangement-invariant spaces concerning the subcritical setting. Classical embeddings for fractional Sobolev spaces into Hölder spaces are recovered as special instances. Proofs require novel strategies, since customary methods fail to produce optimal conclusions.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the existence of a positive weak solution to the equation $(-\Delta_g)^s u=f u^{-q(x)}\;\mbox{in}\; \Omega,$ where $\Omega$ is a smooth bounded domain in $R^N$, $q\in C^1(\overline{\Omega})$, and $(-\Delta_g)^s$ is the fractional $g$-Laplacian with $g$ is the antiderivative of a Young function and $f$ in suitable Orlicz space subjected to zero Dirichlet condition. This includes the mixed fractional $(p,q)-$Laplacian as a special case. The solution so obtained is also shown to be locally Hölder continuous.

The proof of our main existence results relies on the study of the fractional $p(x, \cdot)$-Poisson equation with a nonhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and the theory of fractional Sobolev spaces with variable exponents, together with Schauder's fixed point theorem.

Abstract:The Aubin-Lions lemma and its variants play crucial roles for the existence of weak solutions of nonlinear evolutionary PDEs. In this paper, we aim to develop some compactness criteria that are analogies of the Aubin--Lions lemma for the existence of weak solutions to time fractional PDEs. We first define the weak Caputo derivatives of order $\gamma\in (0,1)$ for functions valued in general Banach spaces, consistent with the traditional definition if the space is $\mathbb{R}^d$ and functions are absolutely continuous. Based on a Volterra type integral form, we establish some time regularity estimates of the functions provided that the weak Caputo derivatives are in certain spaces. The compactness criteria are then established using the time regularity estimates. The existence of weak solutions for a special case of time fractional compressible Navier-Stokes equations with constant density and time fractional Keller-Segel equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$ are then proved as model problems. This work provides a framework for studying weak solutions of nonlinear time fractional PDEs.

Abstract:In this paper we study an elliptic variational problem regarding the $p$-fractional Laplacian in $\mathbb{R}^N$ on the basis of recent result \cite{Ha1}, which generalizes the nice work \cite{AT,AP,XZR1}, and then give some sufficient conditions under which some weak solutions to the above elliptic variational problem are continuous in $\mathbb{R}^N$. In the final appendix we correct the proofs of both \cite[Lemma 10]{PXZ1} and \cite[Lemma A.6]{PXZ} for $1<p<2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following nonlocal problem in fractional Orlicz Sobolev spaces \begin{eqnarray*} (-\Delta_{\Phi})^{s}u+V(x)a(|u|)u=f(x,u),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N, \end{eqnarray*} where $(-\Delta_{\Phi})^{s}(s\in(0, 1))$ denotes the non-local and maybe non-homogeneous operator, the so-called fractional $\Phi$-Laplacian. Without assuming the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type and the Nehari type conditions on the nonlinearity, we obtain the existence of ground state solutions for the above problem in periodic case. The proof is based on a variant version of the mountain pass theorem and a Lions' type result for fractional Orlicz Sobolev spaces.

Abstract:We prove the existence of infinitely many solutions to a fractional Choquard type equation \[ (-\Delta)^s_p u+V(x)|u|^{p-2}u=(K\ast g(u))g'(u)+\varepsilon_W W(x)f'(u)\quad\text{in }\mathbb{R}^N \] involving fractional $p$-Laplacian and a general convolution term with critical growth. In order to obtain infinitely many solutions, we use a type of the symmetric mountain pass lemma which gives a sequence of critical values converging to zero for even functionals. To assure the $(PS)_c$ conditions, we also use a nonlocal version of the concentration compactness lemma.

Abstract:We deal with the nonlinear parabolic problems given by the fractional N-Laplacian operator and time derivative of functions on the fractional Orlicz–Sobolev spaces. We get a result which shows existence of a weak solution for these fractional N-Laplacian heat flows. We obtain this result by using the approximation method. We first obtain a unique sequence of the approximating weak solutions from the difference fractional N-Laplacian problems, and then get some sequences of the variant approximating weak solutions. We next show the convergence of the sequences of the approximating weak solutions to the limits and the limit of some sequence of the approximating weak solutions is a weak solution of this problem.

Abstract:We introduce a Laplacian separation principle for the the eikonal equation on Markov chains. As application, we prove an isoperimetric concentration inequality for Markov chains with non-negative Ollivier curvature. That is, every single point from the concentration profile yields an estimate for every point of the isoperimetric estimate. Applying to exponential and Gaussian concentration, we obtain affirmative answers to two open quesions by Erbar and Fathi. Moreover, we prove that the modified log-Sobolev constant is at least the minimal Ollivier Ricci curvature, assuming non-negative Ollivier sectional curvature, i.e., the Ollivier Ricci curvature when replacing the $\ell_1$ by the $\ell_\infty$ Wasserstein distance. This settles a recent open Problem by Pedrotti. We give a simple example showing that non-negative Ollivier sectional curvature is necessary to obtain a modified log-Sobolev inequality via positive Ollivier Ricci bound. This provides a counterexample to a conjecture by Peres and Tetali.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the description of the lack of compactness of the Sobolev embedding of $H^1(\R^2)$ in the critical Orlicz space ${\cL}(\R^2)$. It turns out that up to cores our result is expressed in terms of the concentration-type examples derived by J. Moser in \cite{M} as in the radial setting investigated in \cite{BMM}. However, the analysis we used in this work is strikingly different from the one conducted in the radial case which is based on an $L^ \infty$ estimate far away from the origin and which is no longer valid in the general framework. Within the general framework of $H^1(\R^2)$, the strategy we adopted to build the profile decomposition in terms of examples by Moser concentrated around cores is based on capacity arguments and relies on an extraction process of mass concentrations. The essential ingredient to extract cores consists in proving by contradiction that if the mass responsible for the lack of compactness of the Sobolev embedding in the Orlicz space is scattered, then the energy used would exceed that of the starting sequence.

Abstract:In this article, we show some density properties of smooth and compactly supported functions in fractional Musielak-Sobolev spaces essentially extending the results of Fiscella, Servadei, and Valdinoci obtained in the fractional Sobolev setting. The proofs of these properties are mainly based on a basic technique of convolution, joined with a cutoff, with some care needed in order not to exceed the original support.
