On the lengths of Okubo algebras

Abstract:We compute the lengths of two particular cases of (possibly non-unital) composition algebras, namely, standard composition algebras and Okubo algebras over an arbitrary field $\mathbb{F}$. These results finish the complete description of lengths of symmetric composition algebras and finite-dimensional flexible composition algebras.

Abstract:By using a free monoid of operators on the set of compositions (resp. pairs of compositions), we establish in this paper a bijective correspondence between Frobenius standard parabolic (resp. seaweed) subalgebras and certain elements of this monoid. We prove via this correspondence a conjecture of one of the authors on the number of Frobenius standard parabolic (resp. seaweed) subalgebras of $\mathrm{sl}_{n}(\Bbbk )$ associated to compositions (resp. pairs of compositions) with $n-t$ parts (resp. parts in total).

On the lengths of descendingly flexible and descendingly alternative algebras

Abstract:We introduce the classes of descendingly flexible and descendingly alternative algebras over an arbitrary field $\mathbb{F}$. We suggest a new method based on the sequence of differences between the dimensions of the linear spans of words, which allows us to obtain upper bounds on the lengths of these algebras. We also present an example of an algebra of arbitrarily large dimension such that these bounds are achieved on it asymptotically.

Abstract:We obtain some results about the spectrum and the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum of weighted composition operators on uniform algebras, assuming that the corresponding map maps the Shilov boundary onto itself. In particular, it follows from our results that in the case of analytic uniform algebras the spectrum is a connected rotation invariant subset of the complex plane, and that the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum is rotation invariant as well.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of composition series and the length of triangulated categories, and we study compositions series of derived categories of certain projective varieties and finite dimensional algebras. For example, we compute the length of the derived category ${\rm D}^{\rm b}(C)$ of a smooth projective curve $C$ and classify all finite length thick subcategories of ${\rm D}^{\rm b}(C)$. Furthermore, we prove that the derived categories of certain smooth projective varieties have composition series of different lengths. We also discuss the length of (1) derived categories of finite dimensional representations of Dynkin and extended Dynkin quivers, (2) derived categories of some singular varieties and (3) Krah's phantom subcategories.

Abstract:Given any irreducible inclusion $\mB \subset \mA$ of unital $C^*$-algebras with a finite-index conditional expectation $E: \mA \to \mB$, we show that the set of $E$-compatible intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras is finite, thereby generalizing a finiteness result of Ino and Watatani (from \cite{IW}). A finiteness result for a certain collection of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of a non-irreducible inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras is also obtained, which provides a $C^*$-version of a finiteness result of Khoshkam and Mashood (from \cite{KM}).

Abstract:Given a quantized enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak g)$ and a pair of dominant weights ($\lambda$, $\mu$), we extend a conjecture raised by Lusztig in \cite{Lusztig:1992}to a more general form and then prove this extended Lusztig's conjecture. Namely we prove that for any symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak g$, there is a composition series of the $U_q(\mathfrak g)$-module $V(\lambda)\otimes V(\mu)$ compatible with the canonical basis. As a byproduct, the celebrated Littlewood-Richardson rule is derived and we also construct, in the same manner, a composition series of $V(\lambda)\otimes V(-\mu)$ compatible with the canonical basis when $\mathfrak g$ is of affine type and the level of $\lambda-\mu$ is nonzero.

Abstract:Here we announce the construction and properties of a big commutative subalgebra of the Kirillov algebra attached to a finite dimensional irreducible representation of a complex semisimple Lie group. They are commutative finite flat algebras over the cohomology of the classifying space of the group. They are isomorphic with the equivariant intersection cohomology of affine Schubert varieties, endowing them with a new ring structure. Study of the finer aspects of the structure of the big algebras will also furnish the stalks of the intersection cohomology with ring structure, thus ringifying Lusztig's q-weight multiplicity polynomials i.e. affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly establish Composition-Diamond lemma for $\Omega$-algebras. We give a Gröbner-Shirshov basis of the free $L$-algebra as a quotient algebra of a free $\Omega$-algebra, and then the normal form of the free $L$-algebra is obtained. We secondly establish Composition-Diamond lemma for $L$-algebras. As applications, we give Gröbner-Shirshov bases of the free dialgebra and the free product of two $L$-algebras, and then we show four embedding theorems of $L$-algebras: 1) Every countably generated $L$-algebra can be embedded into a two-generated $L$-algebra. 2) Every $L$-algebra can be embedded into a simple $L$-algebra. 3) Every countably generated $L$-algebra over a countable field can be embedded into a simple two-generated $L$-algebra. 4) Three arbitrary $L$-algebras $A$, $B$, $C$ over a field $k$ can be embedded into a simple $L$-algebra generated by $B$ and $C$ if $|k|\leq \dim(B*C)$ and $|A|\leq|B*C|$, where $B*C$ is the free product of $B$ and $C$.

Superpolynomial identities of finite-dimensional simple algebras

Abstract:We investigate the Grassmann envelope (of finite rank) of a finite-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra. As a result, we describe the polynomial identities of $G_1(\mathcal{A})$, where $G_1$ stands for the Grassmann algebra with $1$ generator, and $\mathcal{A}$ is a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple associative algebra. We also classify the conditions under which two associative $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple algebras share the same set of superpolynomial identities, i.e., the polynomial identities of its Grassmann envelope (in particular, of finite rank). Moreover, we extend the construction of the Grassmann envelope for the context of $\Omega$-algebras and prove some of its properties. Lastly, we give a description of $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple $\Omega$-algebras.

Characters for extended affine Lie algebras; a combinatorial approach

Abstract:The behavior of objects associated with general extended affine Lie algebras is typically distinct from their counterparts in affine Lie algebras. Our research focuses on studying characters and Cartan automorphisms, which appear in the study of Chevalley involutions and Chevalley bases for extended affine Lie algebras. We show that for almost all extended affine Lie algebras, any finite order Cartan automorphism is diagonal, and its corresponding combinatorial map is a character.

Physics with non-unital algebras? An invitation to the Okubo algebra

Abstract:This paper discusses the potential application of the Okubonions, i.e. the Okubo algebra $\mathcal{O}$, within quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The Okubo algebra lacks a unit element and sits in the adjoint representation of its automorphism group $\text{SU}(3)_{\mathcal{O}}$, being fundamentally different from the better-known octonions $\mathbb{O}$. A physical interpretation is proposed in which the Okubonions represent gluons, the gauge bosons of QCD $\text{SU}(3)$ color symmetry, while the octonions represent quarks (and color singlets). However, it is shown that the respective $\text{SU}(3)$ symmetries for Okubonions and octonions are distinct and inequivalent subgroups of $\text{Spin}(8)$ that share no common $\text{SU}(2)$ subgroup. The unusual properties of Okubonions are suggested as a possible source for peculiar QCD phenomena like asymptotic freedom and color confinement, though actual mechanisms remain to be investigated.

Koszul Lie algebras and their subalgebras

Abstract:This paper examines (restricted) Koszul Lie algebras, a class of positively graded Lie algebras with a quadratic presentation and specific cohomological properties. The study employs HNN-extensions as a key tool for decomposing and analysing these algebras. Building on a previous work on Koszul Lie algebras ("Kurosh theorem for certain Koszul Lie algebras", S. Blumer), this paper also deals with Bloch-Kato Lie algebras, which constitute a distinguished subclass of that of Koszul Lie algebras where all subalgebras generated by elements of degree $1$ have a quadratic presentation. It is shown that Bloch-Kato Lie algebras satisfy a version of the Levi decomposition theorem and that they satisfy the Toral Rank Conjecture. Two new families of such Lie algebras are introduced, including all graded Lie algebras generated in degree $1$ and defined by two quadratic relations. Throughout the paper, we show many properties of right-angled Artin graded (RAAG) Lie algebras, which form a large class of Koszul Lie algebras.

Abstract:We relate completions of infinitesimal Hecke algebras of sl2 to noncommutative deformations of Kleinian singularities of type D of Crawley-Boevey and Holland. As a consequence, we show an analogue of the inequality of Bernstein and simplicity of generic maximal primitive quotients of these algebras. We also establish Skryabin type equivalence for these algebras.

Abstract:The Iwahori--Hecke and Yokonuma--Hecke algebras have played crucial roles in algebraic combinatorics and the representation theory of finite groups. In this work, we use classical results from representation theory to compute the character values of the Yokonuma--Hecke algebra at $w_{0}$ and $w_{0}^{2}$, where $w_{0}$ denotes the element of maximal length in the corresponding Weyl group.

Abstract:Given two unital C*-algebras $A$ and $B$, we study, when it exists, the universal unital $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ generated by the coefficients of a unital $*$-homomorphism $\rho\,:\, A\rightarrow B\otimes\mathcal{U}(A,B)$. When $B$ is finite dimensional, it is well known that $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ exists and we study in this case properties LP, RFD, primitiveness and the UCT as well as $K$-theory. We also construct a reduced version of $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ for which we study exactness, nuclearity, simplicity, absence of non-trivial projection and $K$-theory. Then, we consider the von Neumann algebra generated by the reduced version and study factoriality, amenability, fullness, primeness, absence of Cartan, Connes' invariants, Haagerup property and Connes' embeddability. Next, we consider the case when $B$ is infinite dimensional: we show that for any non-trivial separable unital $C^*$-algebra $A$, $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ exists if and only if $B$ is finite dimensional. Nevertheless, we show that there exists a unique unital locally $C^*$-algebra generated by the coefficients of a unital continuous $*$-homomorphism $\rho\,:\, A\rightarrow B\otimes\mathcal{U}(A,B)$. Finally, we study a natural quantum semigroup structure on $\mathcal{U}(A,A)$.

Abstract:Let A be the path algebra of a Euclidean quiver over a finite field k. The aim of this paper is to classify the modules M with the property [M] is an element of C (A), where C (A) is Ringel's composition algebra. Namely, the main result says that if \k\ not equal 2; 3, then [M] is an element of C (A) if and only if the regular direct summand of M is a direct sum of modules from non-homogeneous tubes with quasi-dimension vectors non-sincere. The main methods are representation theory of affine quivers, the structure of triangular decompositions of tame composition algebras, and the invariant subspaces of skew derivations. As an application, we see that C (A) = H (A) if and only if the quiver of A is of Dynkin type.

Abstract:In the paper, we consider the class of so-called endo-commutative algebras. From the identity imposed to specify this class, one can easily see that the product in this class preserves the square of elements. We give a complete classification of this class, up to isomorphism, over any basic field in dimension two. This elementary and self-contained exposition uses the recent result of one of the authors on description of the category of all $2$-dimensional algebras over any basic field.
