Abstract:We find all polynomial tau-functions of the n-th reduced BKP hierarchy (=n-th Sawada-Kotera hierarchy). The name comes from the fact that for n=3 the simplest equation of the hierarchy is the famous Sawada-Kotera equation.

Abstract:It is shown that it is possible to write down tau functions for the $n$-component KP hierarchy in terms of non-abelian theta functions. This is a generalization of the rank 1 situation; that is, the relation of theta functions of Jacobians and tau functions for the KP hierarchy.

Abstract:Using the matrix-resolvent method and a formula of the second-named author on the $n$-point function for a KP tau-function, we show that the tau-function of an arbitrary solution to the Toda lattice hierarchy is a KP tau-function. We then generalize this result to tau-functions for the extended Toda hierarchy (ETH) by developing the matrix-resolvent method for the ETH. As an example the partition function of Gromov--Witten invariants of the complex projective line is a KP tau-function, and an application on irreducible representations of the symmetric group is obtained.

Lax structure and tau function for large BKP hierarchy

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly investigate Lax structure and tau function for the large BKP hierarchy, which is also known as Toda hierarchy of B type, or Hirota--Ohta--coupled KP hierarchy, or Pfaff lattice. Firstly, the large BKP hierarchy can be derived from fermionic BKP hierarchy by using a special bosonization, which is presented in the form of bilinear equation. Then from bilinear equation, the corresponding Lax equation is given, where in particular the relation of flow generator with Lax operator is obtained. Also starting from Lax equation, the corresponding bilinear equation and existence of tau function are discussed. After that, large BKP hierarchy is viewed as sub--hierarchy of modified Toda (mToda) hierarchy, also called two--component first modified KP hierarchy. Finally by using two basic Miura transformations from mToda to Toda, we understand two typical relations between large BKP tau function $\tau_n(\mathbf{t})$ and Toda tau function $\tau_n^{\rm Toda}(\mathbf{t},-\mathbf{t})$, that is, $\tau_n^{\rm Toda}(\mathbf{t},-{\mathbf{t}})=\tau_n(\mathbf{t})\tau_{n-1}(\mathbf{t})$ and $\tau_n^{\rm Toda}(\mathbf{t},-{\mathbf{t}})=\tau_n^2(\mathbf{t})$. Further we find $\big(\tau_n(\mathbf{t})\tau_{n-1}(\mathbf{t}),\tau_n^2(\mathbf{t})\big)$ satisfies bilinear equation of mToda hierarchy.

Abstract:For each affine Kac-Moody algebra X(r) n of rank l, r = 1, 2, or 3, and for ev-ery choice of a vertex cm, m = 0, ... , l, of the corresponding Dynkin diagram, by using the matrix-resolvent method we define a gauge-invariant tau-structure for the associated Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy and give explicit formulas for generating series of logarithmic derivatives of the tau-function in terms of matrix resolvents, extending the results of [Mosc. Math. J. 21 (2021), 233-270, arXiv:1610.07534] with r = 1 and m = 0. For the case r = 1 and m = 0, we verify that the above-defined tau-structure agrees with the axioms of Hamil-tonian tau-symmetry in the sense of [Adv. Math. 293 (2016), 382-435, arXiv:1409.4616] and [arXiv:math.DG/0108160].
Solving Bi-Directional Soliton Equations in the KP Hierarchy by Gauge Transformation

Abstract:We present a systematic way to construct solutions of the (n=5)-reduction ofthe BKP and CKP hierarchies from the general tau function of the KP hierarchy.We obtain the one-soliton, two-soliton, and periodic solution for thebi-directional Sawada-Kotera (bSK), the bi-directional Kaup-Kupershmidt (bKK)and also the bi-directional Satsuma-Hirota (bSH) equation. Different solutionssuch as left- and right-going solitons are classified according to thesymmetries of the 5th roots of exp(i epsilon). Furthermore, we show that thesoliton solutions of the n-reduction of the BKP and CKP hierarchies with n= 2 j+1, j=1, 2, 3, ..., can propagate along j directions in the 1+1 space-timedomain. Each such direction corresponds to one symmetric distribution of thenth roots of exp(i epsilon). Based on this classification, we detail theexistence of two-peak solitons of the n-reduction from the Grammian taufunction of the sub-hierarchies BKP and CKP. If n is even, we again findtwo-peak solitons. Last, we obtain the "stationary" soliton for thehigher-order KP hierarchy.

Abstract:We introduce a single tau function that represents the C-type Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (CKP) hierarchy in a generalized Hirota 'bilinear' equation. The actions on the tau function by additional symmetries for the hierarchy are also calculated, which involve strictly more than a central extension of the w(infinity)(C)-algebra. As an application, for Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies associated to affine Kac-Moody algebras of type C, we obtain a formula to compute the obstacles in linearizing their Virasoro symmetries and hence prove the Virasoro symmetries to be nonlinearizable when acting on the tau function.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the solutions of the full Kostant–Toda (f-KT) hierarchy in the Hessenberg form and their reductions to the l -banded Kostant–Toda ( l -KT) hierarchies for 1 ⩽ l ⩽ n , where the case with l = 1 is the classical tridiagonal Toda hierarchy and the case with l = n is the f-KT hierarchy. Based on the Hessenberg form of the f-KT hierarchy, we study the f-KT hierarchy and the corresponding l -KT hierarchies on simple Lie algebras of type A , B and G as the root space reductions with proper choices of Chevalley systems. Explicit formulas of the polynomial solutions for the τ-functions are also given in terms of the Schur functions and Schur's Q-functions.

Abstract:Modified CKP (mCKP) hierarchy is an important integrable hierarchy, that is related to CKP hierarchy through Miura link. It has been proven that there exists a tau pair (τ0,τ1) for mCKP hierarchy. Further we find that mCKP hierarchy can be fully determined by CKP tau function and corresponding CKP eigenfunction. Based on this, we construct mCKP tau functions by CKP Darboux transformations and also present the vacuum expectation value of free bosons. As a byproduct, determinant formula for 〈1|eH(to)β0eβn22eβn−122⋯eβ122g|0〉 is also derived.

Abstract:By using pseudo-differential operators containing two derivations, we extend the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy to a certain KP-mKP hierarchy. For the KP-mKP hierarchy, we obtain its Bäcklund transformations, bilinear equations of Baker-Akhiezer functions and Hirota equations of tau functions. Moreover, we show that this hierarchy is equivalent to a subhierarchy of the dispersive Whitham hierarchy associated to the Riemann sphere with its infinity point and one movable point marked.

Abstract:Restricting a linear system for the KP hierarchy to those independent variables t\_n with odd n, its compatibility (Zakharov-Shabat conditions) leads to the "odd KP hierarchy". The latter consists of pairs of equations for two dependent variables, taking values in a (typically noncommutative) associative algebra. If the algebra is commutative, the odd KP hierarchy is known to admit reductions to the BKP and the CKP hierarchy. We approach the odd KP hierarchy and its relation to BKP and CKP in different ways, and address the question whether noncommutative versions of the BKP and the CKP equation (and some of their reductions) exist. In particular, we derive a functional representation of a linear system for the odd KP hierarchy, which in the commutative case produces functional representations of the BKP and CKP hierarchies in terms of a tau function. Furthermore, we consider a functional representation of the KP hierarchy that involves a second (auxiliary) dependent variable and features the odd KP hierarchy directly as a subhierarchy. A method to generate large classes of exact solutions to the KP hierarchy from solutions to a linear matrix ODE system, via a hierarchy of matrix Riccati equations, then also applies to the odd KP hierarchy, and this in turn can be exploited, in particular, to obtain solutions to the BKP and CKP hierarchies.

Abstract:Based on the idea of symmetric constraint, we apply the Gesztesy-Holden's method to derive explicit representations of the Baker-Ahkiezer function $\psi_1$ of the KP hierarchy, from which we provide theta function representations of algebro-geometric solutions for the whole Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy. This provides a approach to obtain some special subclasses of algebro-geometric solutions for the KP hierarchy and other high dimensional hierarchy of equations.

Abstract:For each partition p of an integer N \geq 2, consisting of r parts, an integrable hierarchy of Lax type Hamiltonian PDE has been constructed recently by some of us. In the present paper we show that any tau-function of the p-reduced r-component KP hierarchy produces a solution of this integrable hierarchy. Along the way we provide an algorithm for the explicit construction of the generators of the corresponding classical W-algebra W(gl_N,p), and write down explicit formulas for evolution of these generators along the Hamiltonian flows.

Abstract:Using the free fermions technique and bosonization rules we introduce the multicomponent DKP hierarchy as a generating bilinear integral equation for the tau-function. A number of bilinear equations of the Hirota-Miwa type are obtained as its corollaries. We also consider the dispersionless version of the hierarchy as a set of nonlinear differential equations for the dispersionless limit of logarithm of the tau-function (the $F$-function). We show that there is an elliptic curve built in the structure of the hierarchy, with the elliptic modulus being a dynamical variable. This curve can be uniformized by elliptic functions, and in the elliptic parametrization many dispersionless equations of the Hirota-Miwa type become equivalent to a single equation having a nice form.

Abstract:This, to a large extent, expository paper, describes the theory of multicomponent hierarchies of evolution equations of XKP type, where X=A, B, C or D, and AKP=KP, and their reductions, associated to the conjugacy classes of the Weyl groups of classical Lie algebras of type X. As usual, the main tool is the multicomponent boson-fermion correspondence, which leads to the corresponding tau-functions, wave functions, dressing operators and Lax operators.

Abstract:We derive an explicit formula for the connected $(n,m)$-point functions associated to an arbitrary diagonal tau-function $\tau_f(\boldsymbol{t}^+,\boldsymbol{t}^-)$ of the 2d Toda lattice hierarchy using fermionic computations and the boson-fermion correspondence. Then for fixed $\boldsymbol{t}^-$, we compute the KP-affine coordinates of $\tau_f(\boldsymbol{t}^+,\boldsymbol{t}^-)$. As applications, we present a unified approach to compute various types of connected double Hurwitz numbers, including the ordinary double Hurwitz numbers, the double Hurwitz numbers with completed $r$-cycles, and the mixed double Hurwitz numbers. We also apply this method to the computation of the stationary Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb P^1$ relative to two points.
