Abstract:Belmans, Oberdieck, and Rennemo asked whether natural automorphisms of Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces can be characterized by the fact that they preserve the exceptional divisor of non-reduced subschemes. Sasaki recently published examples, independently discovered by the author, of automorphisms on the Hilbert scheme of two points of certain abelian surfaces which preserve the exceptional divisor but are nevertheless unnatural, giving a negative answer to the question. We construct additional examples for abelian surfaces of unnatural automorphisms which preserve the exceptional divisor of the Hilbert scheme of an arbitrary number of points. The underlying abelian surfaces in these examples have Picard rank at least 2, and hence are not generic. We prove the converse statement that all automorphisms are natural on the Hilbert scheme of two points for a principally polarized abelian surface of Picard rank 1. Additionally, we prove the same if the polarization has self-intersection a perfect square.

Abstract:Let $C$ be a smooth curve. In this paper we investigate the geometric properties of the double nested Hilbert scheme of points on $C$, a moduli space introduced by the third author in the context of BPS invariants of local curves and sheaf counting on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We prove this moduli space is connected, reduced and of pure dimension; we list its components via an explicit combinatorial characterisation and we show they can be resolved, when singular, by products of symmetric products of $C$. We achieve this via a purely algebraic analysis of the factorisation properties of the monoid of reverse plane partitions. We discuss the (virtual) fundamental class of the moduli space, we describe the local equations cutting it inside a smooth ambient space, and finally we provide a closed formula for its motivic class in the Grothendieck ring of varieties.

Abstract:For any almost-simple group $G$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic zero, we describe the automorphism group of the moduli space of semistable $G$-bundles over a connected smooth projective curve $C$ of genus at least $4$. The result is achieved by studying the singular fibers of the Hitchin fibration. As a byproduct, we provide a description of the irreducible components of two natural closed subsets in the Hitchin basis: the divisor of singular cameral curves and the divisor of singular Hitchin fibers.

Abstract:We define the notion of special automorphisms on Shimura curves. Using this notion, for a wild class of elliptic curves defined over Q, we get rank one quadratic twists by discriminants having any prescribed number of prime factors. Finally, as an application, we obtain some new results on Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture for the rank one quadratic twists of the elliptic curve X 0(49).

Abstract:For any quiver $Q$ and dimension vector $v$, Le Bruyn--Procesi proved that the invariant ring for the action of the change of basis group on the space of representations $\textrm{Rep}(Q,v)$ is generated by the traces of matrix products associated to cycles in the quiver. We generalise this to allow for vertices where the group acts trivially, and we give relations between the generators of the invariant algebra for quivers with relations. As a geometric application, we prove for $n\geq 1$ that the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on an ADE surface singularity is isomorphic to a Nakajima quiver variety. This allows us to generalise the well known theorem of [Fogarty] by showing that the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on a normal surface with canonical singularities is a normal variety of dimension $2n$ with canonical singularities. In addition, we show that if $S$ has symplecic singularities over $\mathbb{C}$, then so does the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on $S$, thereby generalising a result of Beauville.

Abstract:This paper delves into the study of curvilinear Hilbert schemes associated with a singular variety $(X,0)$ and the relationship between their motivic classes and the motivic measure on the arc scheme $X_\infty$ of $X$ introduced by Denef and Loeser. We introduce an Igusa zeta function specifically tailored for curvilinear Hilbert schemes for which we provide an explicit formulation in terms of an embedded resolution of the singularity, and we consequently obtain a recursive formula to compute the motivic classes of curvilinear Hilbert schemes in terms of the resolution. In addition, the paper explores and analyzes the geometry and combinatorics of curvilinear Hilbert schemes in the context of plane curve singularities and their topological invariants.

Unexpected but recurrent phenomena for Quot and Hilbert schemes of points

Abstract:We investigate some aspects of the geometry of two classical generalisations of the Hilbert schemes of points. Precisely, we show that parity conjecture for $\text{Quot}_r^d\mathbb{A}^3$ already fails for $d=8$ and $r=2$ and that lots of the elementary components of the nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth quasi-projective varieties of dimension at least 4 are generically non-reduced. We also deduce that nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth surfaces have generically non-reduced components. Finally, we give an infinite family of elementary components of the classical Hilbert schemes of points.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the stable birational type of $Hilb^n_X$, the Hilbert scheme of degree $n$ points on a surface $X$. More precisely, it addresses the question for which pairs of positive integers $(n,n')$ the variety $Hilb^n_X$ is stably birational to $Hilb^{n'}_X$, when $X$ is a surface with irregularity $q(X)=0$. After general results for such surfaces, we restrict our attention to geometrically rational surfaces, proving that there are only finitely many stable birational classes among the $Hilb^n_X$'s. As a corollary, we deduce the rationality of the motivic zeta function $\zeta(X,t)$ in $K_0(Var/k)/([\mathbb{A}^1_k])[[t]]$ over fields of characteristic zero.

Abstract:We show that the moduli space of simple flat bundles over a compact Sasakian manifold is a finite disjoint union of moduli spaces of simple flat bundles with fixed basic structures. This gives a detailed description of the non-abelian Hodge correspondence on a compact Sasakian manifold at the level of moduli spaces. As an application, we give an analogue of Hitchin's properness of maps defined by the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of Higgs fields.

Hilbert schemes for crepant partial resolutions

Abstract:For $n\geq 1$, we construct the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on any crepant partial resolution of a Kleinian singularity as a Nakajima quiver variety for an explicit GIT stability parameter. We provide both a short proof involving a combinatorial argument, in which the isomorphism is implicit, and a more satisfying geometric proof where the isomorphic is constructed explicitly. As a corollary, we compute the nef and movable cones of the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on any crepant partial resolution of a Kleinian singularity in terms of the summands of a tilting bundle on the surface.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the singular locus of $\mathrm{Sec} (X^{[2]})$ coincides with $X^{[2]}$ under the Grothendieck-Plücker embedding $X^{[2]} \hookrightarrow \mathbb{P}^N$ when $X$ is embedded by a $4$-very ample line bundle. We also prove that the embedding $X^{[2]} \hookrightarrow \mathbb{P}^N$ satisfies Green's condition $(N_p)$ when the embedding of $X$ is positive enough. As an application, we describe the geometry of a resolution of singularities from the secant bundle to $\mathrm{Sec}(X^{[2]})$ when $X$ is a surface.

Abstract:Let X be a zero-dimensional scheme contained in a multiprojective space. Let $s_i$ be the length of the projection of X onto the i-th component of the multiprojective space. A result of A. Van Tuyl states that the Hilbert function of X, in the case when X is reduced, is completely determined by its restriction to the product of the intervals $[0, s_i - 1]$. We prove that the same is also true for non-reduced schemes X.

Abstract:It remains an open problem to classify the Hilbert functions of double points in $\mathbb{P}^2$. Given a valid Hilbert function $H$ of a zero-dimensional scheme in $\mathbb{P}^2$, we show how to construct a set of fat points $Z \subseteq \mathbb{P}^2$ of double and reduced points such that $H_Z$, the Hilbert function of $Z$, is the same as $H$. In other words, we show that any valid Hilbert function $H$ of a zero-dimensional scheme is the Hilbert function of a set of a positive number of double points and some reduced points. For some families of valid Hilbert functions, we are also able to show that $H$ is the Hilbert function of only double points. In addition, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Hilbert function of a scheme of a double points, or double points plus one additional reduced point, to be the Hilbert function of points with support on a star configuration of lines.

Abstract:For $n\ge 1$ we show that the length 1 nested Hilbert scheme of the total space $X_n$ of the line bundle $\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^1}(-n)$, parameterizing pairs of nested 0-cycles in $X_n$, is a quiver variety associated with a suitable quiver with relations. This generalizes previous work about nested Hilbert schemes on $\mathbb C^2$ in one direction, and about the Hilbert schemes of points of $X_n$ in another direction.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a non-empty scheme with 2 invertible. In this paper we present a functor $F: AZ_*^{n'} \rightarrow GS_*^n$ where $AZ_*^{n'}$ and $GS_*^n$ are fibered categories over $Sch_S$ given respectively by degree-$n'$ Azumaya algebras with an involution of type $*$ and rank-$n$ adjoint group schemes of classical type $*$ with absolutely simple fibers. Here $n'$ is a function of $n$. We show that this functor is an equivalence of fibered categories using étale descent, thus giving a classification of adjoint (as well as simply connected) group schemes over $S$, generalizing the well known case when the base scheme is the spectrum of a field. In particular, this implies that every adjoint group scheme of classical type with absolutely simple fibers is isomorphic to the neutral component of the automorphism group scheme of a unique (up to isomorphism) Azumaya algebra with involution. We also show interesting applications of this classification such as specialization theorem for isomorphism classes of Azumaya algebra with involution over Henselian local rings, uniqueness of integral model for groups with good reduction over discrete valued fields and discuss its implications on the Grothendieck-Serre conjecture over certain domains.

Abstract:We show that the Yoneda embedding extends to an $(\infty,2)$-natural transformation. Furthermore, as such, it is uniquely determined by its value at the trivial $\infty$-category.
