Abstract:We present a new virtual laboratory developed with COMSOL Multiphysics for the simulation of an acoustic levitator. Our computer application simulates the acoustic pressure field and its interaction with a set of particles. Students can interact with the system by having the possibility of changing the frequency and distance parameters between transducers in real-time. We have also developed and shared for free use the 3D printing design files for the construction of necessary components for the acoustic levitator and the instructions for its experimental implementation. The experimental results, along with the virtual laboratory, provide the students with useful tools to understand and interpret the acoustic phenomenon involved.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main objective of this paper is to introduce a new virtual laboratory that uses COMSOL Multiphysics software to simulate the phenomenon of acoustic levitation. Specifically, the paper aims to address the following issues: 1. **Enhancing students' understanding of acoustic levitation technology**: By developing an interactive virtual laboratory, students can change the frequency and distance parameters between ultrasonic transducers in real-time, thereby gaining a better understanding of the acoustic levitation phenomenon and the physical principles behind it. 2. **Providing experimental tools**: In addition to the virtual laboratory, the paper also provides 3D printing design files and experimental implementation instructions needed to construct an acoustic levitation device, allowing students to verify theoretical knowledge through practical operation. 3. **Combining virtual and experimental systems**: By integrating the virtual laboratory with actual experiments, the paper helps students comprehensively master acoustic levitation technology from both theoretical and practical perspectives, enhancing their understanding of acoustic wave concepts and stimulating their interest in learning. 4. **Validating the consistency between theory and experiment**: By comparing the simulation results in the virtual laboratory with actual experimental data, the paper validates the effectiveness of the theoretical model and explores possible reasons for any discrepancies. In summary, this paper aims to develop a comprehensive set of teaching tools to help students gain a deeper understanding of the complex physical phenomenon of acoustic levitation and promote its application in scientific research.
