Abstract:A lower bound for the second smallest eigenvalue (SSE) of the unweighted Laplacian for an N-vertex directed rooted graph is obtained by obtaining the supremum of the scrambling constant of the (N - 1)-th power of the corresponding adjacency matrix. This supremum is actually achieved by the "N-layer Complete Graph" (NCG) defined in this paper, which implies that for directed rooted graphs that is unweighted for its directed edges, NCGs have the least connective topology in the sense of scrambling constant.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a regular graph with $m$ edges, and let $\mu_1, \mu_2$ denote the two largest eigenvalues of $A_G$, the adjacency matrix of $G$. We show that, if $G$ is not complete, then $$\mu_1^2 + \mu_2^2 \leq \frac{2(\omega - 1)}{\omega} m$$ where $\omega$ is the clique number of $G$. This confirms a conjecture of Bollobás and Nikiforov for regular graphs. We also show that equality holds if and only if $G$ is either a balanced Turán graph or the disjoint union of two balanced Turán graphs of the same size.

Abstract:In this paper, we will classify the 2-partially distance-regular graphs whose each local graph has second largest eigenvalue at most one. As an application, we classify the 2-walk-regular graphs with an eigenvalue −b12−1. These results generalize the results of Koolen and Yu for distance-regular graphs.

Also we discuss the consequences for the smallest eigenvalue of a distance-regular graph. Abstract:We provide bounds on the smallest eigenvalue of grounded Laplacian matrices (which are obtained by removing certain rows and columns of the Laplacian matrix of a given graph). The gap between our upper and lower bounds depends on the ratio of the smallest and largest components of the eigenvector corresponding to the smallest eigenvalue of the grounded Laplacian. We provide a graph-theoretic bound on this ratio, and subsequently obtain a tight characterization of the smallest eigenvalue for certain classes of graphs. Specifically, for weighted Erdos-Renyi random graphs, we show that when a (sufficiently small) set S of rows and columns is removed from the Laplacian, and the probability p of adding an edge is sufficiently large, the smallest eigenvalue of the grounded Laplacian asymptotically almost surely approaches μw|S|p, where μw is the mean edge weight. We also show that for weighted random d-regular graphs with a single row and column removed, the smallest eigenvalue is Θ(1/n), where n is the number of nodes in the network. Our bounds have applications to the study of the convergence rate in consensus dynamics with stubborn or leader nodes.

Abstract:We prove that for each $d \geq 3$ the set of all limit points of the second largest eigenvalue of growing sequences of $d$-regular graphs is $[2\sqrt{d-1},d]$. A similar argument shows that the set of all limit points of the smallest eigenvalue of growing sequences of $d$-regular graphs with growing (odd) girth is $[-d, -2 \sqrt{d-1}]$. The more general question of identifying all vectors which are limit points of the vectors of the top $k$ eigenvalues of sequences of $d$-regular graphs is considered as well. As a by product, in the study of discrete counterpart of the "scarring" phenomenon observed in the investigation of quantum ergodicity on manifolds, our technique provides a method to construct $d$-regular almost Ramanujan graphs with large girth and localized eigenvectors corresponding to eigenvalues larger than $2\sqrt{d-1}$, strengthening a result of Alon, Ganguly, and Srivastava.

Abstract:We study the spectral radius of connected non-regular graphs. Let λ1(n,Δ) be the maximum spectral radius among all connected non-regular graphs with n vertices and maximum degree Δ. We prove that Δ−λ1(n,Δ)=Θ(Δ/n2). This improves two recent results by Stevanović and Zhang, respectively.

Abstract:In this note, we determine the exact value for the second largest eigenvalue of the derangement graph, by deriving a formula for all the eigenvalues corresponding to the 2-part partitions. This result is then used to obtain lower bounds for the vertex connectivity and Cheeger constant, and an upper bound for the bipartite density. Also, the exact value of the Shannon capacity of the derangement graph is obtained.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple graph or a multigraph. The vertex connectivity $\kappa(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum size of a vertex set $S$ such that $G-S$ is disconnected or has only one vertex. We denote by $\lambda_{3}(G)$ the third largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of $G$. In this paper, we present an upper bound for $\lambda_{3}(G)$ in a $d$-regular (multi-)graph $G$ which guarantees that $\kappa(G)\geq t+1$, which is based on the result of Abiad et al. [Spectral bounds for the connectivity of regular graphs with given order. Electron. J. Linear Algebra 34:428-443, 2018]. Furthermore, we improve the upper bound for $\lambda_{3}(G)$ in a $d$-regular multigraph which assures that $\kappa(G)\geq 2$.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal A$ be the adjacency matrix of a random $d$-regular graph on $N$ vertices, and we denote its eigenvalues by $\lambda_1\geq \lambda_2\cdots \geq \lambda_{N}$. For $N^{2/3}\ll d\leq N/2$, we prove optimal rigidity estimates of the extreme eigenvalues of $\mathcal A$, which in particular imply that \[ \max\{|\lambda_N|,\lambda_2\} <2\sqrt{d-1} \] with overwhelming probability. In the same regime of $d$, we also show that \[ N^{2/3}\bigg(\frac{\lambda_2+d/N}{\sqrt{d(N-d)/N}}-2\bigg) \overset{d}{\longrightarrow} \mathrm{TW}_1\,, \]where $\mathrm{TW}_1$ is the Tracy-Widom distribution for GOE; analogues results also hold for other non-trivial extreme eigenvalues.
