Abstract:The recent discovery of the AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A=K, Rb, Cs) kagome superconductors launched a growing field of research investigating electronic instabilities in kagome metals. Specifically, the AV$_3$Sb$_5$ family naturally exhibits a Fermi level tuned to the Van Hove singularities associated with the saddle points formed from the prototypical kagome band structure. The charge density wave and superconducting states that form within the kagome networks of these compounds exhibit a number of anomalous properties reminiscent of theoretical predictions of exotic states in kagome metals tuned close to their Van Hove fillings. Here we provide an overview of the key structural and electronic features of AV$_3$Sb$_5$ compounds and review the status of investigations into their unconventional electronic phase transitions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem this paper attempts to address is the exploration and understanding of electronic instabilities in AV3Sb5 (A=K, Rb, Cs) Kekulé superconductors, particularly the anomalous properties of charge density wave (CDW) and superconducting (SC) states exhibited by these materials near Van Hove singularities (VHS). Specifically, the paper aims to: 1. **Review the key structural and electronic properties of AV3Sb5 compounds**: Introduce the crystal structure and electronic band structure of these compounds, especially the characteristics of the Fermi level tuned near the Van Hove singularities in the Kekulé network. 2. **Review the research progress on unconventional electronic phase transitions in these compounds**: Discuss the formation mechanisms and anomalous properties of charge density wave and superconducting states in these materials, including orbital antiferromagnetism, electronic nematic phase, and pair density wave. 3. **Explore future research directions**: Identify key issues in current research and potential future research directions, particularly in understanding the microscopic origins of unconventional electronic properties in these materials. Through these efforts, the paper hopes to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding and exploring unconventional electronic states in Kekulé metals, particularly in realizing theoretically predicted exotic states in these materials.
