Abstract:In this paper we introduce the notion of generalized invertible 1-cocycle in a strict braided monoidal category C, and we prove that the category of Hopf trusses is equivalent to the category of generalized invertible 1-cocycles. On the other hand, we also introduce the notions of module for a Hopf truss and for a generalized invertible 1-cocycle. We prove some functorial results involving these categories of modules and we show that the category of modules associated to a generalized invertible 1-cocycle is equivalent to a category of modules associated to a suitable Hopf truss. Finally, assuming that in C we have equalizers, we introduce the notion of Hopf-module in the Hopf truss setting and we obtain the Fundamental Theorem of Hopf modules associated to a Hopf truss.

Abstract:The present article is devoted to introduce the notion of Hopf bracoid in the braided monoidal framework as the quantum version of skew bracoids, which have been presented by Martin-Lyons and Paul J. Truman. Taking into account that Hopf braces are particular examples of Hopf bracoids, in this paper we generalize many properties of Hopf braces to the Hopf bracoid setting and we obtain a categorical isomorphism between certain full subcategories of the Hopf bracoids category and the 1-cocycles category.

Relative Rota-Baxter operators, modules and projections

Abstract:The present article is devoted to introduce, in a braided monoidal setting, the notion of module over a relative Rota-Baxter operator. It is proved that there exists an adjunction between the category of modules associated to an invertible relative Rota-Baxter operator and the category of modules associated to a Hopf brace, which induces an equivalence by assuming certain additional hypothesis. Moreover, the notion of projection between relative Rota-Baxter operators is defined, and it is proved that those which are called ``strong'' give rise to a module according to the previous definition in the cocommutative setting.

Hopf-cyclic coefficients in the braided setting

Abstract:Considering the monoidal category $\mathcal{C}$ obtained as modules over a Hopf algebra $H$ in a rigid braided category $\mathcal{B}$, we prove decomposition results for the Hochschild and cyclic homology categories $HH(\mathcal{C})$ and $HC(\mathcal{C})$ of $\mathcal{C}$. This is accomplished by defining a notion of a (stable) anti-Yetter-Drinfeld module with coefficients in a (stable) braided module over $\mathcal{B}$. When the stable braided module is $HH(\mathcal{B})$, we recover $HH(\mathcal{C})$ and $HC(\mathcal{C})$. The decomposition of $HC(\mathcal{C})$ now follows from that of $HH(\mathcal{B})$.

Categorical isomorphisms for Hopf braces

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the category of brace triples in a braided monoidal setting and prove that it is isomorphic to the category of s-Hopf braces, which are a generalization of cocommutative Hopf braces. After that, we obtain a categorical isomorphism between finite cocommutative Hopf braces and a certain subcategory of cocommutative post-Hopf algebras, which suppose an expansion to the braided monoidal setting of the equivalence obtained by Y. Li, Y. Sheng and R. Tang for the category of vector spaces over a field $\mathbb{K}$.

Reconstruction of module categories in the infinite and non-rigid settings

Abstract:By building on the notions of internal projective and injective objects in a module category introduced by Douglas, Schommer-Pries, and Snyder, we extend the reconstruction theory for module categories of Etingof and Ostrik. More explicitly, instead of algebra objects in finite tensor categories, we consider quasi-finite coalgebra objects in locally finite tensor categories. Moreover, we show that module categories over non-rigid monoidal categories can be reconstructed via lax module monads, which generalize algebra objects. For the category of finite-dimensional comodules over a (non-Hopf) bialgebra, we give this result a more concrete form, realizing module categories as categories of contramodules over Hopf trimodule algebras -- this specializes to our tensor-categorical results in the Hopf case. Using lax module functors we give a categorical proof of the variant of the fundamental theorem of Hopf modules which applies to Hopf trimodules. We also give a characterization of fusion operators for a Hopf monad as coherence cells for a module functor structure, using which we similarly reinterpret and reprove the Hopf-monadic fundamental theorem of Hopf modules due to Bruguières, Lack, and Virelizier.

A Categorical Approach to Möbius Inversion via Derived Functors

Abstract:We develop a cohomological approach to Möbius inversion using derived functors in the enriched categorical setting. For a poset $P$ and a closed symmetric monoidal abelian category $\mathcal{C}$, we define Möbius cohomology as the derived functors of an enriched hom functor on the category of $P$-modules. We prove that the Euler characteristic of our cohomology theory recovers the classical Möbius inversion, providing a natural categorification. As a key application, we prove a categorical version of Rota's Galois Connection. Our approach unifies classical ideas from combinatorics with homological algebra.

Abstract:A model structure on a category is a formal way of introducing a homotopy theory on that category, and if the model structure is abelian and hereditary, its homotopy category is known to be triangulated. So a good way to both build and model a triangulated category is to build a hereditary abelian model structure. Given a ring $R$ and a (non necessarily semidualizing) left $R$-module $C$, we introduce and study new concepts of relative Gorenstein cotorsion and cotorsion modules: $\rm G_C$-cotorsion and (strongly) $\mathcal{C}_C$-cotorsion. As an application, we prove that there is a unique hereditary abelian model structure on the category of left $R$-modules, in which the cofibrations are the monomorphisms with $\rm G_C$-flat cokernel and the fibrations are the epimorphisms with $\mathcal{C}_C$-cotorsion kernel belonging to the Bass class $\mathcal{B}_C(R)$. In the second part, when $C$ is a semidualizing $(R,S)$-bimodule, we investigate the existence of abelian model structures on the category of left (resp., right) $R$-modules where the cofibrations are the epimorphisms (resp., monomorphisms) with kernel (resp., cokernel) belonging to the Bass (resp., Auslander) class $\mathcal{B}_C(R)$ (resp., $\mathcal{A}_C(R)$). We also study the class of $\rm G_C$-flat modules and the Bass class from the Auslander-Buchweitz approximation theory point of view. We show that they are part of weak AB-contexts. As the concept of weak AB-context can be dualized, we also give dual results that involve the class of $\rm G_C$-cotorsion modules and the Auslander class.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify 1-cocycles of the Witt algebra with coefficients in the tensor product of two arbitrary tensor density modules. In a special case, we recover a theorem originally established by Ng and Taft in \cite{NT}. Furthermore, by these 1-cocycles, we determine Lie bialgebra structures over certain infinite-dimensional Lie algebras containing the Witt algebra.

A combinatorial approach to categorical Möbius inversion and pseudoinversion

Abstract:We use Cramer's formula for the inverse of a matrix and a combinatorial expression for the determinant in terms of paths of an associated digraph (which can be traced back to Coates) to give a combinatorial interpretation of Möbius inversion whenever it exists. Every Möbius coefficient is a quotient of two sums, each indexed by certain collections of paths in the digraph. Our result contains, as particular cases, previous theorems by Hall (for posets) and Leinster (for skeletal categories whose idempotents are identities). A byproduct is a novel expression for the magnitude of a metric space as sum over self-avoiding paths with finitely many terms. By means of Berg's formula, our main constructions can be extended to Moore-Penrose pseudoinverses, yielding an analogous combinatorial interpretation of Möbius pseudoinversion and, consequently, of the magnitude of an arbitrary finite category.

Module categories of the generic Virasoro VOA and quantum groups

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the equivalence between two braided tensor categories. On the one hand, we consider the category of modules of the Virasoro vertex operator algebra with a generic central charge (generic Virasoro VOA) generated by those simple modules lying in the first row of the Kac table. On the other hand, we take the category of finite-dimensional type I modules of the quantum group $\mathcal{U}_{q} (\mathfrak{sl}_{2})$ with $q$ determined by the central charge. This is a continuation of our previous work in which we examined intertwining operators for the generic Virasoro VOA in detail. Our strategy to show the categorical equivalence is to take those results as input and directly compare the structures of the tensor categories. Therefore, we are to execute the most elementary proof of categorical equivalence. We also study the category of $C_{1}$-cofinite modules of the generic Virasoro VOA. We show that it is equivalent to the category of finite-dimensional type I modules of $\mathcal{U}_{q} (\mathfrak{sl}_{2})\otimes \mathcal{U}_{\tilde{q}} (\mathfrak{sl}_{2})$ as a tensor category, where $q$ and $\tilde{q}$ are again related to the central charge.

Abstract:We introduce a theory of modules over a representation of a small category taking values in entwining structures over a semiperfect coalgebra. This takes forward the aim of developing categories of entwined modules to the same extent as that of module categories as well as the philosophy of Mitchell of working with rings with several objects. The representations are motivated by work of Estrada and Virili, who developed a theory of modules over a representation taking values in small preadditive categories, which were then studied in the same spirit as sheaves of modules over a scheme. We also describe, by means of Frobenius and separable functors, how our theory relates to that of modules over the underlying representation taking values in small $K$-linear categories.

Abstract:Suppose that L is a quasitriangular weak Hopf algebra with a bijective antipode and H is a weak Hopf algebra in the braided nonoidal category M-L. We prove that the fundamental theorem for right H-Hopf modules in M-L. Our results in this paper generalize previous fundamental theorem for Hopf module on the Hopf algebras and weak Hopf algebras.

Abstract:We construct an invertible normalised 2 cocycle on the Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid of a cleft Hopf Galois extension under the condition that the corresponding Hopf algebra is cocommutative and the image of the unital cocycle corresponding to this cleft Hopf Galois extension belongs to the centre of the coinvariant subalgebra. Moreover, we show that any Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid of this kind is isomorphic to a 2-cocycle twist of the Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid corresponding to a Hopf Galois extension without cocycle, where comodule algebra is an ordinary smash product of the coinvariant subalgebra and the Hopf algebra (i.e. $\C(B/#_{\sigma}H, H)\simeq \C(B\#H, H)^{\tilde{\sigma}}$). We also study the theory in the case of a Galois object where the base is trivial but without requiring the Hopf algebra to be cocommutative.

Abstract:Four lectures on invertible field theories at the Park City Mathematics Institute 2019. Cobordism categories are introduced both as plain categories and topologically enriched. We then discuss localization of categories and its relationship to classifying spaces, and state the main theorem of classification of invertible field theories in these terms. We also discuss symmetric monoidal structures and their relationship to actions of the little disk operads. In the final lecture we discuss an application of cobordism categories to characteristic classes of surface bundles. Emphasis will be on self-contained definitions and statements, referring to original literature for proofs. We also include problem sets from the three exercise sessions at the summer school, and solutions to two problems.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of Hopf braces projections in a monoidal setting. Given a cocommutative Hopf brace ${\mathbb H}$ in a strict symmetric monoidal category ${\sf C}$, we define the braided monoidal category of left Yetter-Drinfeld modules over ${\mathbb H}$. For a Hopf brace ${\mathbb A}$ in this category, we introduce the concept of bosonizable Hopf brace and we prove that its bosonization ${\mathbb A}\blacktriangleright\hspace{-0.15cm}\blacktriangleleft {\mathbb H}$ is a new Hopf brace in ${\sf C}$ that gives rise to a projection of Hopf braces satisfying certain properties. Finally, taking these properties into account, we introduce the notions of v$_{i}$-strong projection over ${\mathbb H}$, $i=1,2,3,4$, and we prove that there is a categorical equivalence between the categories of bosonizable Hopf braces in the category of left Yetter-Drinfeld modules over ${\mathbb H}$ and the category of v$_{4}$-strong projections over ${\mathbb H}$.

Abstract:Categorical aspects of the theory of modules over trusses are studied. Tensor product of modules over trusses is defined and its existence established. In particular, it is shown that bimodules over trusses form a monoidal category. Truss versions of the Eilenberg-Watts theorem and Morita equivalence are formulated. Projective and small-projective modules over trusses are defined and their properties studied.

Abstract:Given an algebra in a monoidal 2-category, one can construct a 2-category of right modules. Given a braided algebra in a braided monoidal 2-category, it is possible to refine the notion of right module to that of a local module. Under mild assumptions, we prove that the 2-category of local modules admits a braided monoidal structure. In addition, if the braided monoidal 2-category has duals, we go on to show that the 2-category of local modules also has duals. Furthermore, if it is a braided fusion 2-category, we establish that the 2-category of local modules is a braided multifusion 2-category. We examine various examples. For instance, working within the 2-category of 2-vector spaces, we find that the notion of local module recovers that of braided module 1-category. Finally, we examine the concept of a Lagrangian algebra, that is a braided algebra with trivial 2-category of local modules. In particular, we completely describe Lagrangian algebras in the Drinfeld centers of fusion 2-categories, and we discuss how this result is related to the classifications of topological boundaries of (3+1)d topological phases of matter.
