Abstract:In this study, we present our latest findings regarding azimuthal distributions in vector boson + jets and multi-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These findings result from matching next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative matrix elements with transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton branching. We conduct a comprehensive comparative analysis of azimuthal correlations between Z boson-jet and jet-jet systems in the back-to-back region. These distinct azimuthal correlation patterns can help identify potential factorization-breaking effects in this region. Such effects depend on the different color and spin structures of the final states and their interactions with the initial states.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is, on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanism of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) within the framework of the Standard Model (SM) and explore the possibilities beyond the Standard Model (BSM) by studying the azimuthal correlations in the production processes of vector bosons (such as 𝑍 bosons) plus jets and multi - jets at high transverse momentum (high - 𝑝_T_). Specifically, the paper focuses on: 1. **Azimuthal Correlation Patterns**: By analyzing the azimuthal correlations of the 𝑍 - boson - jet system and the jet - jet system in the back - to - back region, potential factorization - breaking effects are identified. These effects depend on the different color and spin structures of the final state and their interactions with the initial state. 2. **Influence of High - Order QCD Radiation**: At the leading order of the strong coupling constant (𝛼_s_), these azimuthal correlations exhibit a typical back - to - back configuration (Δ𝜙 ≃ 𝜋), and deviations indicate higher - order QCD radiation. The large Δ𝜙 region is mainly related to soft gluon radiation, while the small Δ𝜙 region is associated with hard QCD radiation. 3. **Application of TMD Parton Distribution Functions**: The paper explores how to use the transverse - momentum - dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions to describe the transverse momentum of the initial - state partons and how to probe this property through the resummation of soft multi - gluon emissions. 4. **Detection of Factorization - Breaking Effects**: By comparing the azimuthal correlations in 𝑍 + jet and multi - jet production processes, especially their behavioral differences in different transverse - momentum ranges, the factorization - breaking effects are explored. These differences may stem from the differences in the flavor components, transverse momentum and parton jets of the initial state, as well as the differences in the final - state jets caused by the change in the number of final - state jets. 5. **Comparison between Theory and Experiment**: The paper also discusses the comparison between theoretical predictions and CMS experimental data, especially in the region of very high leading transverse momentum (𝑝_leading_T_ > 1000 GeV), where the deviation between theoretical and experimental results may imply the existence of factorization - breaking. In conclusion, this paper aims to provide profound insights into QCD dynamics and possible new physical phenomena through precise measurement and theoretical analysis.
