Abstract:Standard subspaces are a well studied object in algebraic quantum field theory (AQFT). Given a standard subspace ${\tt V}$ of a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, one is interested in unitary one-parameter groups on $\mathcal{H}$ with $U_t {\tt V} \subseteq {\tt V}$ for every $t \in \mathbb{R}_+$. If $({\tt V},U)$ is a non-degenerate standard pair on $\mathcal{H}$, i.e. the self-adjoint infinitesimal generator of $U$ is a positive operator with trivial kernel, two classical results are given by Borchers' Theorem, relating non-degenerate standard pairs to positive energy representations of the affine group $\mathrm{Aff}(\mathbb{R})$ and the Longo--Witten Theorem, stating the the semigroup of unitary endomorphisms of ${\tt V}$ can be identified with the semigroup of symmetric operator-valued inner functions on the upper half plane. In this thesis we prove results similar to the theorems of Borchers and of Longo--Witten for a more general framework of unitary one-parameter groups without the assumption that their infinitesimal generator is positive. We replace this assumption by the weaker assumption that the triple $(\mathcal{H},{\tt V},U)$ is a so called real regular one-parameter group.

Abstract:We introduce a version of Koszul duality for categories, which extends the Koszul duality of operads and right modules. We demonstrate that the derivatives which appear in Weiss calculus (with values in spectra) form a right module over the Koszul dual of the category of vector spaces and orthogonal surjections, resolving conjectures of Arone--Ching and Espic. Using categorical Fourier transforms, we then classify Weiss towers. In particular, we describe the $n$-th polynomial approximation as a pullback of the $(n-1)$-st polynomial approximation along a ``generalized norm map''.

Abstract:Given a partition $\lambda$ of a number $k$, it is known that by adding a long line of length $n-k$, the dimension of the associated representation of $S_{n}$ is an integer-valued polynomial of degree $k$ in $n$. We show that its expansion in the binomial basis is bounded by the length of $\lambda$, and that the resulting coefficient of index $h$, with alternating signs, counts the standard Young tableaux of shape $\lambda$ in which a given collection of consecutive $h$ numbers lie in increasing rows. We also construct bijections in order to demonstare explicitly that this number is indeed independent of the set of consecutive $h$ numbers used.

About the Expressive Power and Complexity of Order-Invariance with Two Variables

Abstract:Order-invariant first-order logic is an extension of first-order logic FO where formulae can make use of a linear order on the structures, under the proviso that they are order-invariant, i.e. that their truth value is the same for all linear orders. We continue the study of the two-variable fragment of order-invariant first-order logic initiated by Zeume and Harwath, and study its complexity and expressive power. We first establish coNExpTime-completeness for the problem of deciding if a given two-variable formula is order-invariant, which tightens and significantly simplifies the coN2ExpTime proof by Zeume and Harwath. Second, we address the question of whether every property expressible in order-invariant two-variable logic is also expressible in first-order logic without the use of a linear order. We suspect that the answer is ``no''. To justify our claim, we present a class of finite tree-like structures (of unbounded degree) in which a relaxed variant of order-invariant two-variable FO expresses properties that are not definable in plain FO. By contrast, we show that if one restricts their attention to classes of structures of bounded degree, then the expressive power of order-invariant two-variable FO is contained within FO.

Abstract:For a partition $\beta$, denote by $N_\beta$ the nilpotent linear operator of Jordan type $\beta$. Given partitions $\beta$, $\gamma$, we investigate the representation space ${}_2{\mathbb V}_{\gamma}^\beta$ of all short exact sequences $$ \mathcal E: 0\to N_\alpha \to N_\beta \to N_\gamma \to 0$$ where $\alpha$ is any partition with each part at most 2. Due to the condition on $\alpha$, the isomorphism type of a sequence $\mathcal E$ is given by an arc diagram $\Delta$; denote by ${\mathbb V}_\Delta$ the subset of ${}_2{\mathbb V}_{\gamma}^\beta$ of all sequences isomorphic to $\mathcal E$. Thus, the space ${}_2{\mathbb V}_{\gamma}^\beta$ carries a stratification given by the subsets of type ${\mathbb V}_\Delta$. We compute the dimension of each stratum and show that the boundary of a stratum ${\mathbb V}_\Delta$ consists exactly of those ${\mathbb V}_{\Delta'}$ where $\Delta'$ is obtained from $\Delta$ by a non-empty sequence of arc moves of five possible types {\bf (A) -- (E)}. The case where all three partitions are fixed has been studied in [3] and [4]. There, arc moves of types {\bf (A) -- (D)} suffice to describe the boundary of a ${\mathbb V}_\Delta$ in ${\mathbb V}_{\alpha,\gamma}^\beta$. Our fifth move {\bf (E)}, "explosion", is needed to break up an arc into two poles to allow for changes in the partition $\alpha$.

In this paper, we show that the dual canonical basis of [math] (and base affine spaces) can be parametrized by semi-standard Young tableaux. Moreover, we give an explicit formula for every element in the dual canonical basis using the data of the corresponding semi-standard Young tableau. We apply our results to study cluster variables in [math].

Abstract:Finite dimensional simple modules of quantum affine algebras of type A correspond to semistandard Young tableaux of rectangular shapes. In this paper, we classify all prime modules corresponding to 2-column semistandard Young tableaux. Moreover, we give a conjectural sufficient condition for a module corresponding to a tableau with more than two columns to be prime.

Abstract:A tableau inversion is a pair of entries from the same column of a row-standard tableau that lack the relative ordering necessary to make the tableau column-standard. An $i$-inverted Young tableau is a row-standard tableau with precisely $i$ inversion pairs, and may be interpreted as a generalization of (column-standard) Young tableau. Inverted Young tableau that lack repeated entries were introduced by Fresse to calculate the Betti numbers of Springer fibers in Type A, and were later developed as combinatorial objects in their own right by Beagley and Drube. This paper generalizes earlier notions of tableau inversions to row-standard tableaux with repeated entries, yielding an interesting new generalization of semistandard (as opposed to merely standard) Young tableaux. We develop a closed formula for the maximum numbers of inversion pairs for a row-standard tableau with a specific shape and content, and show that the number of $i$-inverted tableaux of a given shape is invariant under permutation of content. We then enumerate $i$-inverted Young tableaux for a variety of shapes and contents, and generalize an earlier result that places $1$-inverted Young tableaux of a general shape in bijection with $0$-inverted Young tableaux of a variety of related shapes.

Abstract:We consider the category $\mathcal S(n)$ of all pairs $X = (U,V)$, where $V$ is a finite-dimensional vector space with a nilpotent operator $T$ with $T^n = 0$, and $U$ is a subspace of $V$ such that $T(U) \subseteq U$. Our main interest in an object $X=(U,V)$ are the three numbers $uX=\dim U$ (for the subspace), $wX=\dim V/U$ (for the factor) and $bX=\dim {\rm Ker} T$ (for the operator). Actually, instead of looking at the reference space $\Bbb R^3$ with the triples $(uX,wX,bX)$, we will focus the attention to the corresponding projective space $\Bbb T(n)$ which contains for a non-zero object $X$ the level-colevel pair {\bf pr}$X = (uX/bX,wX/bX)$ supporting the object $X$. We use $\Bbb T(n)$ to visualize part of the categorical structure of $\mathcal S(n)$: The action of the duality $D$ and the square $\tau_n^2$ of the Auslander-Reiten translation are represented on $\Bbb T(n)$ by a reflection and a rotation by $120^\circ$ degrees, respectively. Moreover for $n\geq 6$, each component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of $\mathcal S(n)$ has support either contained in the center of $\Bbb T(n)$ or with the center as its only accumulation point. We show that the only indecomposable objects $X$ in $\mathcal S(n)$ with support having boundary distance smaller than 1 are objects with $bX=1$ which lie on the boundary, whereas any rational vector in $\Bbb T(n)$ with boundary distance at least 2 supports infinitely many indecomposable objects. At present, it is not clear at all what happens for vectors with boundary distance between 1 and 2. The use of $\Bbb T(n)$ provides even in the (quite well-understood) case $n = 6$ some surprises: In particular, we will show that any indecomposable object in $\mathcal S(6)$ lies on one of 12 central lines in $\Bbb T(6)$. The paper is essentially self-contained, all prerequisites which are needed are outlined in detail.

On m-tuples of nilpotent 2x2 matrices over an arbitrary field

Abstract:The algebra of ${\rm GL}_n$-invariants of $m$-tuples of $n\times n$ matrices with respect to the action by simultaneous conjugation is a classical topic in case of infinite base field. On the other hand, in case of a finite field generators of polynomial invariants even in case of a pair of $2\times 2$ matrices are not known. Working over an arbitrary field we classified all ${\rm GL}_2$-orbits on $m$-tuples of $2\times 2$ nilpotent matrices for all $m>0$. As a consequence, we obtained a minimal separating set for the algebra of ${\rm GL}_2$-invariant polynomial functions of $m$-tuples of $2\times 2$ nilpotent matrices. We also described the least possible number of elements of a separating set for an algebra of invariant polynomial functions over a finite field.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the Mohebi-Radjabalipour Conjecture under an additional condition, and obtain a new invariant subspace theorem for subdecomposable operators. Our main results contain known results in the literature as special cases. Moreover, we give some specific examples to illustrate that the conditions in our theorem are significantly weaker, simpler and more nature than those in the known results.

Abstract:We study the relationship between operator algebras, $C^*$ and von Neumann, acting on a Hilbert space and unitary representations of topological groups on the same space. We obtain certain correspondences between both these families of objects. In particular, we prove that the study of Abelian subalgebras of a norm-separable $C^*$-algebra can be, in many aspects, reduced to the study of unitary representations of Polish groups. It is shown that our techniques have applications to the construction and classification of Abelian subalgebras of operator $C^*$-algebras on separable Hilbert spaces.

Abstract:We investigate some basic questions concerning the relationship between the restricted Grassmannian and the theory of Banach Lie–Poisson spaces. By using universal central extensions of Lie algebras, we find that the restricted Grassmannian is symplectomorphic to symplectic leaves in certain Banach Lie–Poisson spaces, and the underlying Banach space can be chosen to be even a Hilbert space. Smoothness of numerous adjoint and coadjoint orbits of the restricted unitary group is also established. Several pathological properties of the restricted algebra are pointed out.

Abstract:In this paper, the structure of the nearly invariant subspaces for discrete semigroups generated by several (even infinitely many) automorphisms of the unit disc is described. As part of this work, the near -invariance property of the image space is explored for composition operators , induced by inner functions , and Toeplitz operators T . After that, the analysis of nearly invariant subspaces for strongly continuous multiplication semigroups of isometries is developed with a study of cyclic subspaces generated by a single Hardy class function. These are characterised in terms of model spaces in all cases when the outer factor is a product of an invertible function and a rational (not necessarily invertible) function. Techniques used include the theory of Toeplitz kernels and reproducing kernels.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue investigation of the lateral order on vector lattices started in [25]. We consider the complexification EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$ of a real vector lattice E and introduce the lateral order on EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$. Our first main result asserts that the set of all fragments Fv$\mathfrak {F}_v$ of an element v & ISIN;EC$v\in E_{\mathbb {C}}$ of the complexification of an uniformly complete vector lattice E is a Boolean algebra. Then, we study narrow operators defined on the complexification EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$ of a vector lattice E, extending the results of articles [22, 27, 28] to the setting of operators defined on complex vector lattices. We prove that every order-to-norm continuous linear operator T:EC & RARR;X$\mathcal {T}: E_{\mathbb {C}} \rightarrow X$ from the complexification EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$ of an atomless Dedekind complete vector lattice E to a finite-dimensional Banach space X is strictly narrow. Then, we prove that every C-compact order-to-norm continuous linear operator T$\mathcal {T}$ from EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$ to a Banach space X is narrow. We also show that every regular order-no-norm continuous linear operator from EC$E_{\mathbb {C}}$ to a complex Banach lattice (lp(D)C$(\ell _p(\mathcal {D})_{\mathbb {C}}$ is narrow. Finally, in the last part of the paper we investigate narrow operators taking values in symmetric ideals of compact operators.
On combinatorial invariance of parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials

Abstract:We show that the Combinatorial Invariance Conjecture for Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials due to Lusztig and to Dyer, its parabolic analog due to Marietti, and a refined parabolic version that we introduce, are equivalent. We use this to give a new proof of Marietti's conjecture in the case of lower Bruhat intervals and to prove several new cases of the parabolic conjectures.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space and let $\mathcal{J}$ be a two-sided ideal of the algebra of bounded operators $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$. The groups $\mathcal{G} \ell_\mathcal{J}$ and $\mathcal{U}_{\mathcal{J}}$ consist of all the invertible operators and unitary operators of the form $I + \mathcal{J}$, respectively. We study the actions of these groups on the set of closed range operators. First, we find equivalent characterizations of the $\mathcal{G} \ell_\mathcal{J}$-orbits involving the essential codimension. These characterizations can be made more explicit in the case of arithmetic mean closed ideals. Second, we give characterizations of the $\mathcal{U}_{\mathcal{J}}$-orbits by using recent results on restricted diagonalization. Finally we introduce the notion of $\mathcal{J}$-equivalence and $\mathcal{J}$-unitary equivalence between frames for subspaces of a Hilbert space, and we apply our abstract results to obtain several results regarding duality and symmetric approximation of $\mathcal{J}$-equivalent frames.

Abstract:A quasi-representation of a group is a map from the group into a matrix algebra (or similar object) that approximately satisfies the relations needed to be a representation. Work of many people starting with Kazhdan and Voiculescu, and recently advanced by Dadarlat, Eilers-Shulman-Sørensen and others, has shown that there are topological obstructions to approximating unitary quasi-representations of groups by honest representations, where `approximation' is understood to be with respect to the operator norm. The purpose of this paper is to explore whether approximation is possible if the known obstructions vanish, partially generalizing work of Gong-Lin and Eilers-Loring-Pedersen for the free abelian group of rank two, and the Klein bottle group. We show that this is possible, at least in a weak sense, for some `low-dimensional' groups including fundamental groups of closed surfaces, certain Baumslag-Solitar groups, free-by-cyclic groups, and many fundamental groups of three manifolds. The techniques used in the paper are $K$-theoretic: they have their origin in Baum-Connes-Kasparov type assembly maps, and in the Elliott program to classify $C^*$-algebras; Kasparov's bivariant KK-theory is a crucial tool. The key new technical ingredients are: a stable uniqueness theorem in the sense of Dadarlat-Eilers and Lin that works for non-exact $C^*$-algebras; and an analysis of maps on $K$-theory with finite coefficients in terms of the relative eta invariants of Atiyah-Patodi-Singer. Despite the proofs going through $K$-theoretic machinery, the main theorems can be stated in elementary terms that do not need any $K$-theory.

Abstract:We provide an algebraic-geometrical interpretation of the classical semistandard Young-tableaux via the notion of Seshadri stratifications. The columns appearing in such a tableau correspond to vanishing multiplicities of certain rational functions on Schubert varieties. To build a framework for this correspondence we generalize Seshadri stratifications to multiprojective varieties, which forms the largest part of this article.

Abstract:We study the representation theory of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$, constructing two spectral sequences which eventually annihilate precisely the superdimension zero indecomposable modules in the finite-dimensional category. The pages of these spectral sequences, along with their limits, define symmetric monoidal functors on $\mathrm{Rep} (\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$. These two spectral sequences are related by contragredient duality, and from their limits we construct explicit semisimplification functors, which we explicitly prove are isomorphic up to a twist. We use these tools to prove branching results for the restriction of simple modules over Kac-Moody and queer Lie superalgebras to $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$-subalgebras.
