Abstract:We consider the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with initial data that is bounded by a Gaussian in the velocity variable. In the case of moderately soft potentials, we show that weak solutions immediately become smooth, and remain smooth as long as the mass, energy, and entropy densities remain under control. For very soft potentials, we obtain the same conclusion with the additional assumption that a sufficiently high moment of the solution in the velocity variable remains bounded. Our proof relies on the iteration of local Schauder-type estimates.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of strongly degenerate ultraparabolic equations with analytic coefficients. We demonstrate that the Cauchy problem exhibits an analytic smoothing effect. This means that, with an initial datum belonging to the Sobolev space $H^s$ (of real index s), the associated Cauchy problem admits a unique solution that is analytic in all spatial variables for any strictly positive time. This smoothing effect property is similar to that of the Cauchy problem for uniformly parabolic equations with analytic coefficients.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly consider the global solvability of smooth solutions for the Cauchy problem of the three-dimensional Landau–Lifshitz–Slonczewski equation in the Morrey space. When the initial data , we derive the covariant complex Ginzburg–Landau equation by using moving frames to address the nonlinear parts. Applying the semigroup estimates and energy methods, we extend local classical solutions to global solutions and prove the boundedness of under some conditions on and the density of the spin-polarized current, where is the magnetic intensity. Moreover, when the initial data , we obtain a global weak solution by using an approximation. Finally, we establish the existence and uniqueness of global smooth solutions via the regularity theory of weak solutions

Abstract:In this work, we consider the smoothness of the solutions to the full Landau equation. In particular, we prove that any classical solutions (such as the ones obtained by Guo in a “close to equilibrium” setting) become immediately smooth with respect to all variables. This shows that the Landau equation is a nonlinear and nonlocal analog of an hypoelliptic equation.

Abstract:This paper addresses large-data local existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the inhomogeneous Landau equation in the hard potentials case (including Maxwell molecules). Solutions have previously been constructed by Chaturvedi [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 55(5), 5345--5385, 2023] for initial data in an exponentially-weighted $H^{10}$ space, but it is not a priori clear whether these solutions have more regularity than the initial data. We improve Chaturvedi's existence result in two ways: our solutions are $C^\infty$ for positive times, and we allow initial data in a sub-exponentially-weighted $L^\infty$ space, at the cost of requiring a mild positivity condition at time zero. To prove uniqueness, we require stronger assumptions on the initial data: Hölder continuity and the absence of vacuum regions. These are the same assumptions that are required for uniqueness in prior work on the soft potentials case. Along the way to proving existence and uniqueness, we establish some useful results that were previously only known in the case of soft potentials, including spreading of positivity and propagation of Hölder continuity. Many of the proof strategies from the soft potentials case do not apply here because of the more severe loss of velocity moments.

Abstract:In this paper, we will show the existence of partially regular solutions to the initial–boundary value problem for Landau–Lifshitz equations with nonpositive anisotropy constants in three or four space dimensions. The partial regularity is proved up to the boundary both for the Dirichlet problem and for the Neumann problem. In addition, for the Neumann case, a generalized stability condition which ensures the partial regularity is given. For equations with positive or negative anisotropy coefficients, we will give two results of existence and uniqueness for the solutions corresponding to ground states.

Abstract:For the Maxwellian molecules or hard potentials case, we verify the smoothing effect for the spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff. Given initial data with low regularity, we prove its solutions at any positive time are analytic for strong angular singularity, and in Gevrey class with optimal index for mild angular singularity. To overcome the degeneracy in the spatial variable, a family of well-chosen vector fields with time-dependent coefficients will play a crucial role, and the sharp regularization effect of weak solutions relies on a quantitative estimate on directional derivatives in these vector fields.

Abstract:This paper deals with the space-homogenous Landau equation with very soft potentials, including the Coulomb case. This nonlinear equation is of parabolic type with diffusion matrix given by the convolution product of the solution with the matrix $a_{ij} (z)=|z|^\gamma (|z|^2 \delta_{ij} - z_iz_j)$ for $\gamma \in [-3,-2)$. We derive local truncated entropy estimates and use them to establish two facts. Firstly, we prove that the set of singular points (in time and velocity) for the weak solutions constructed as in [C. Villani, Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 143 (1998), 273-307] has zero $\mathscr{P}^{m_\ast}$ parabolic Hausdorff measure with $m_\ast:= \frac72 |2+\gamma|$. Secondly, we prove that if such a weak solution is axisymmetric, then it is smooth away from the symmetry axis. In particular, radially symmetric weak solutions are smooth away from the origin.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the semilinear wave equations with the inverse-square potential. By transferring the original equation to a "fractional dimensional" wave equation and analyzing the properties of its fundamental solution, we establish a long-time existence result, for sufficiently small, spherically symmetric initial data. Together with the previously known blow-up result, we determine the critical exponent which divides the global existence and finite time blow-up. Moreover, the sharp lower bounds of the lifespan are obtained, except for certain borderline case. In addition, our technology allows us to handle an extreme case for the potential, which has hardly been discussed in literature.

Abstract:We demonstrate that the spatially homogeneous Landau-Coulomb equation exhibits global existence and uniqueness around the space $H^{-\f12}_3\cap L^1_{7}\cap L\log L$. Additionally, we furnish several quantitative assessments regarding the smoothing estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces for various initial data configurations. Consequently, we confirm the conjecture that the solution possesses a $C^\infty$ smoothing effect in velocity variable for any positive time, similar to the heat equation, despite the initial data having only a polynomial tail.

Abstract:In this note, we prove the partial regularity of stationary weak solutions for the Landau-Lifshitz system with general potential in four or three dimensional space. As well known, in general, since the constraint of the methods, in order to get the partial regularity of stationary weak solution of the Landau-Lifshitz system with potential, we need to add some very strongly conditions on the potential. The main difficulty caused by potential is how to find the equation satisfied by the scaling function, which breaks down the blow-up processing. We estimate directly Morrey’s energy to avoid the difficulties by blowing up.

Abstract:We consider the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials (i.e. with $\gamma \in [0,1]$) on the whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove existence and uniquenss of solutions for a small time, assuming that the initial data is in a weighted tenth-order Sobolev space and has exponential decay in the velocity variable. In constrast to the soft potential case, local existence for the hard potentials case has been missing from the literature. This is because the moment loss issue is the most severe for these potentials. To get over this issue, our proof relies on a weighted hierarchy of norms that depends on the number of spatial and velocity derivatives in an asymmetric way. This hierarchy lets us take care of the terms that are affected by the moment loss issue the most. These terms do not give in to methods applied to study existence of solutions to Landau equation with soft potentials and are a major reason why the local existence problem was not known for the case of hard potentials.

Abstract:The Landau equation is studied for hard potential with −2 ≤ γ ≤ 1. Under a perturbation setting, a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem to the Landau equation is established in a critical Sobolev space HxdLv2(d>32)$$H_x^dL_v^2(d > {3 \over 2})$$, which extends the results of [11] in the torus domain to the whole space ℝx3$$\mathbb{R}_x^3$$. Here we utilize the pseudo-differential calculus to derive our desired result.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe several stationary conditions on weak solutions to the inhomogeneous Landau-Lifshitz equation, which ensure the partial regularity. For certain class of proper stationary weak solutions, a compactness result of the solutions, a finite Hausdorff measure result of the t -slice energy concentration sets and an asymptotic limit result of the Radon measures are proved. We also present a subtle rectifiability result for the energy concentration set of certain sequence of strong stationary weak solutions.

Abstract:This work deals with the inhomogeneous Landau equation on the torus in the cases of hard, maxwellian and moderately soft potentials. We first investigate the linearized equation and we prove exponential decay estimates for the associated semigroup. We then turn to the nonlinear equation and we use the linearized semigroup decay in order to construct solutions in a close-to-equilibrium setting. Finally, we prove a exponential stability for such a solution, with a rate as close as we want to the optimal rate given by the semigroup decay.
